After seeing my primary care physician (I'm gatekeeping), a musculoskeletal surgeon alongside his chiropractic staff and practitioners, the phlebotomist thrice, and the imaging staff, I can say that I am beyond satisfied with UT Health. I am, in fact, switching all of my specialists over to this campus as the communication is stellar between doctors and everyone I've seen has incredible bedside manner. The staff is generally good (it seems like this place is a wonderful start for many as I've seen a lot of rotation and/or turnover) and navigating scheduling and other difficult parts is super simple here. Opthamology: Dr Bowden is excellent. The back office staff (insurance, billing, Medicare) is seriously incompetent and uniformed. Their default is last minute surgery cancellations and suggestions to go cash pay. Really!!!! My insurer, Humana sorted this effectively. The cataract procedure at the Ambulatory Surgery center is fully covered, yet Ophtamology was quick to cancel the appt and shuffle me off to St David's without any input from either myself or Humana!!!! My daughter took two days off work for this. In short, I would never recommend UTHealth! read more

Doctor Navid Valizadeh is very unsupportive neurologist and does not recognize the fact that people who are on immunosuppressive medications in fact do have a weakened immune system and more susceptible to upper respiratory infections. He claims that this is not the case and that simply while taking medications of this kind you do not need to limit the exposure of being around people. Just continue to get vaccinated and that's all the protection needed. He completely turned me away when I sought work accommodation to better protect myself from upper respiratory infections and stated "he felt he would be lying to fill out a work place accommodation form" for simply requesting a safer work space in the office or any other type of accommodations that people with Multiple Sclerosis may seek. I've never had a doctor that offers such poor quality of care of patients and refuses to do his job to the best of his abilities. read more

This afternoon I went to a consultation and I felt very bad, nausiac and a little disoriented, I couldn't find the bathrooms and in a hallway I met a young lady who approached me to ask if I was okay to which I replied that I felt very bad and could she tell me how to get to the bathrooms and in a very kind way she guided me to them, she told me that she actually worked there and was in charge of keeping the bathrooms clean and the whole time she made me feel better because she was very attentive to me and I think that all the workers should be as kind and attentive and if you happen to read this, thank you very much for your help Yanet read more

Well I have multiple sclerosis & used to walk into my appointments when I first started seeing Dr Ethan Meltzer - an MS specialty neurologist - 5 years ago. Now a days im confined to a wheelchair. My legs no longer work. If you want a physician who when you tell him you cannot walk will perhaps give you more attention & not say "gosh this is a hot summer, I'm sure things will be better when it cools off," I would advise seeking a different physician than Dr. Ethan Meltzer. This man was happy as can be, taking my insurance payouts while crippling me - no problem. Absolute zero stars if it were an option. read more

I'm specifically writing about the UT Health Musculoskeletal Institute. It's taken me a long time to write this review. I needed to consider whether my expectations were off or whether it was the service. As with most things, I suspect it was somewhere in the middle. My PCP recommended UT Health's Musculoskeletal Institute (UTHMI), saying that another patient had described it glowingly. My experience was different. There are a lot of details, but in the end what happened is I described my issue to one of the practitioners on Dr. Mark Querault's team and, partly because I wasn't experiencing pain at the time, was dismissed as not having any issues worth their time and talent, and told to go see a PT. They determined this without examining my back beyond a cursory check. It's been about 18 months since I was seen. I went to a PT in the meantime, but my spine has some issues that a PT isn't trained to solve, and I'm now experiencing pain (though in a different place than I was expecting). I'm not going back to the UTHMI. I'm not a trained practitioner, and I'm criticizing trained practitioners for their trade. I know this sounds a bit weak, but I've been living in my body for 50 years, I've been diagnosed by other practitioners over the years, and am clear that there are complexities that were neither taken into account, much less looked for. I expected better, and I'll find it elsewhere. read more

I have been going to UT Health Austin's women's clinic for a few years now, and am so thankful to have found them! I have needed routine appointments and some medical procedures done, which can be nerve wracking; but, the care team has always been kind and efficient! I spent 11 months on a wait list for a very specific doctor I had looked at. Finally got the call to schedule only to find out he has no appointment available for new patients. I was on the waitlist for the next available provider. Who, could apparently see me as early as the next day and many appointments available the next week. So Im really confused as per why I was on an 11 month waitlist. And at no point was I ever told the wait list was not for the doctor I had specifically requested. Even when I periodically called to see where I was in line to be seen. When I had also specifically stated that I was wanting to see that provider. Being new to the area and not really knowing anyone made finding a new doctor was a hard enough search. And I wasted almost an entire year just to be told no. The staff themselves were always friendly and nice. But this was a very off putting experience. read more

I wanted to give a wonderful review of Dr. Bozic and his Muskuloskeletal Team at UT Health! Dr. Bozic and team completed my hip replacement beginning of December 2020. Dr. Bozic and everyone were awesome. Dr. Bozic sits down with you in the consult room and before/after surgery. He takes his time listening and explaining everything. My hip is 100% better since the surgery. I was driving after 2 weeks and off pain meds after about 2 weeks. He also kept my other UT Health/Dell Medical doctor updated as well. I highly recommend Dr. Bozic and team and will return to him if needed!! read more

Technicians were great but front office was less than helpful. I had to have a 2nd bone scan because the first one "didn't come out right" and it has now been over a month and no results received. When I requested that the results be mailed, they said I had to go through their records department or come by (a 3rd time) and fill out a release of information. I expected a similar service level to ARA but can't use them due to an insurance snag. But I will never use UT Health imaging again, despite being happy with their other providers. read more

full disclosure: I work here, but came here as a patient recently and the provider I saw had no clue who I was so I think I got the standard service I went to the spine clinic and was blown away by the attentiveness of my evaluation - I was there for almost an hour and a half when I'm used to just about 20-30 minutes. They put me through the ringer and did a very thorough assessment and I was able to leave with a better understanding of my disease process and a path to feeling better. read more

WORST place EVER!!! I was charged for TWO office visits when I had just made a normal REGULAR 'no concerns' yearly appointment. They charge you as soon as you go in, BEFORE you see the Dr and no you cant see the Dr until you pay up front. (I did not know at this time that the over $300 payment was for TWO office visits.... read on....) I went in for a normal check up, I was told I had to pay upon entering, and No I was not told what the charges were for. I thought it was weird but figured "it's not the receptionist's fault, its probably just company rules". I saw the Dr, answered all "HER" questions, and went home. (See below why this was 2 office visits.) Months later I got a bill for lab work -that I thought was included in the visit, so I called. I was then informed of the double office visit and that the lab was NOT their own. Yes, they USUALLY send lab work to THEIR labs but the one I got a bill from is an 'out sourced' lab. I questioned all of this but they said I had to pay the lab and would not get a refund for the 2nd office visit. (So began the 7 month ordeal of getting answers.) NO ONE called back-no matter how many numbers I was given (apparently everyone has to pass the phone to someone else and they cant call you even when you leave several messages, several different times for severeal different weeks because "you need to call someone else".) I FINALLY got someone who said they'd check all the charges but in the end 'Yeah, you paid up front so you agreed to the charges and the lab was sent your stuff because the Dr decided she'd send it there INSTEAD of to their labs (where i MAY have gotten a refund of some kind) but becasue it's out sourced-its out of their hands. MAJORLY upset I demanded to know WHY, WHY, WHY was I charged for 2 office visits?!?!?!.... worst answer EVER.... EVERY thing that is talked about in the exam room is charged as a seperate issue and therfore they 'anticipated' that I would have other concerns. (I had NO other concerns but because the Dr asked ME questions.... it counted as other concerns being discussed). That's right ... I had NO other concerns but she made sure to ask about other concerns and therefore I had other concerns. He said, 'Usually patients will mention 'other concerns' NOT associated with what they said they were coming in for-I.E. "I sprained my ankle"... but when they go in, they talk about headaches or ask for a refill RX from a long ago office visit. THAT is now 'another concern', therefore ($$$$$$$) another office visit is charged." Yeah, They just figured I would have mentioned other things.... when I didn't they simply filed it under all the questions the DR ASKED and therefore it was other concerns that were discussed AND because I paid up front, I had agreed to their charges and nothing could be done. Nice place huh? Lab is paid-I dont skip out on ANY bills.... but I sure as H*** will NEVER come here again AND I will tell everyone of my experience. When companies get too big, they just dont care. Mark V. Queralt, MD UT Health Austin, Orthopedics 1601 Trinity St, Austin, TX 78712 One a continuum of Awful to Fabulous, Dr. Queralt is at the top of the Fabulous End. He has the X factor that can't be taught in medical school. By that I mean, not only does the doctor assess and diagnose the source of your pain (in my case expideciously) but all the while being invested in the process and being so thoughtful and as genuine as your next best friend. I am a very well educated retired educator so I appreciated Dr. Queralt taking his scarce time to share his reasoning and knowledge. You have been to that doctor who is kind of stingy or too impatient or too taxed to expend his/her energy on educating you, or spending one minute more than the minimum to "get his job done." Dr. Queralt is not that kind of doctor. The best part about his innate style is that it engenders TRUST and CONFIDENCE. That is not only pleasant but probably ensures a better outcome for you because you are more likely to follow through on prescribed treatment. So Dr. Queralt who I met for the first time a few hours ago is 5 stars. But, I would like to also say, so is the UT Health Austin facility. We are old (90 and 92)and have seen our share of physicians who are very busy and can spare little time or patience to hear our aches and pains. Dr. Scott Selenger is different in that he, although he has a busy practice, is never too busy or pre-occupied to listen and offer help. A demeanor which is very much appreciated!! The services only run by UT are state of the art. They work very hard to make sure people with pre-existing conditions---including fear of doctors/hospitals are very well taken care of. i always feel like I am at a resort more than a hospital. Nice and carefree. Bravo!! Seton. the religious charity which insists on participating in central Texas healthcare---is 'something else' Initially the hallways 'look the same' but they are 'dirty' the staff will find an excuse to lie. power trip and otherwise act condescending etc. They have no idea how to treat the public with respect, so they're just not going to do it period. They're going to treat you like garbage . It would be far more organized and a top quality experience just to let UT run all of the training rounds---and prevent confusion re who is supposed to be where. read more

My only issue was that she said I should have been scheduled with another department (fertility) but the front desk staff "aren't always aware of procedures." I wasted an appointment, money from the co-payment bill I now have to pay, and have to come back again. read more

I recently came to the UT Health center to visit a Women's Health care provider, and saw Teresa Reed, PA. She was very kind and attentive, and I could tell that she takes great pains to make you feel very 'safe' -- if that makes sense? (Anyone with a uterus knows how doctors can be a little err, cavalier with the undercarriage. So if you're a bit skittish about the whole process, this is a definite plus.) She had a resident with her, who was also very nice and professional; they asked first if she could participate, and the experience was totally fine. And I never felt rushed! The intake nurse (is that what they're called?) was also extremely nice, and the office called me later that very same day to schedule the referred follow-up care. A+++ for the staff! The building is quite swanky, and as of this post some of it is under construction -- so be aware that you may see entrances boarded-up or populated by crews in hard hats. Parking is validated for the nearby garage. [Note: I was referred here from my Community Care PCP, and this all was done through the MAP program for low income folks. Nevertheless, it's where everyone is sent, so there was no secret underground facility for us poors. Yay!] If you're a grizzled veteran of various doctors offices, there are some things to know: 1) They do all the intake forms on an iPad, including some short surveys for the medical providers, and these take a few minutes, so come early if you can. 2) The 'waiting areas' are unique, as are the sliding doors. I thought I'd locked myself in the exam room until I remembered it was a sliding door... 3) As with most medical appointments, I find it's wisest to earmark yourself a generous amount of time for the whole process. I recently had knee replacement and the UT Health Austin orthopedics clinic did a wonderful job. I highly recommend it if you need to have knee surgery. For many years I worked for one of the major hospital systems in Austin, and in that role was lucky to meet lots of surgeons.....including many orthopedic surgeons. The good news is that we have in Central Texas several really, really good orthopedic surgeons. The EVEN BETTER NEWS is that there is a relatively new doc in town who is also a great orthopedic surgeon - Dr. Karl Koenig. Before my surgery I asked around about Dr. Koenig with other doctors and nurses. They all said the same thing - a great surgeon with an obsessive attention to detail. I found that to be very true. But what really struck me was not just his attention to detail, but his really intense attention to my concerns, and my post-operative goals. He patiently answered all my questions, and even more than that, he probed to see if I had concerns or questions that I wasn't talking about. I really felt like he truly cared about not only the surgery, but also my recovery and my well being. Knee replacement is a tough surgery....make no mistake about it. But during some of the toughest times during those first couple of weeks after surgery, Dr. Koenig would check on me himself, and have good advice and encouragement that helped me get through the tough times. In addition to Dr. Koenig, the entire orthopedic service operation at UT Health Austin is excellent. The clinic is efficient. Everyone - from the folks at the front desk to the nurses and the x-ray technicians - are attentive, supportive, nice and pay attention to your needs. You feel like you are part of a "system" that is built to take great care of you. Also, the new Dell Seton Medical Center at UT Austin is an incredible hospital. Cutting edge technology, gorgeous rooms, great nursing care and good food. I know that Dr. Kevin Bozic is the "big shot" surgeon that the Dell Medical School recruited to Austin from San Francisco, and he is truly a great surgeon and a wonderful new asset for Austin. I believe the orthopedic clinic which he runs is the result of his grand vision. And like I said, Austin has a number of really great orthopedic surgeons. I think we should add Dr. Koenig to that list. read more

Dr. Anthony Johnson MD was unprofessional. Misdiagnosed the repairs needed to my knee, and proceeded to tell me I needed a procedure that I didn't end up needing. If having that procedure ( LCL surgery) he told me there was a chance that I could come out of the surgery worse than how I came in. He was cocky and would not answering any of my questions with confident straightforward answers instead he would joke and act like I didn't need to be asking those questions and to just "trust" this stranger. Because his a doctor and clearly knows everything right... he refused to give me an MRI and said it would be to costly ( even though with the surgery I would meet my deductible any way).. he gave me an x ray which was fine I needed one , but can't diagnose my real problem which was a torn ACL and meniscus. He knew those were torn by doing a physical test. But adding in the extra LCL surgery would have added on months of physical therapy and recuperation. And he should have been 100 percent sure of what he should be doing before opening my leg. Thinking an MRI was not needed in this situation was ignorant. He was also mean to my kids. But that's just a personal view. I recently got another bill from their office which I was not notified about. They charged me $30 for co pay at the door then gave me another bill for $25. When they should have been upfront at the time of checkin that they were a specialist charge of $55. This place seems new and unprofessional and that's not what you want when it comes to fixing limbs that you need forever. Go with someone who feels very comfort in their trade and doesn't have to put you down to make themselves feel higher. I went with Dr. Matthew Tyrrell Burrus with Orthopedic Associates of Central Texas , he came highly recommended by a client who used them after having a similar experience at UT Health. Dr Burrus was professional and did an excellent job from beginning to finish with my knee and procedures. read more

This is my second visit here at Women's Health and both times I have been left sitting in the examining room more than 30 minutes after having been told that the medical professional was "finishing up with another patient and will be in soon." Finally the assistant came in and said it would be awhile longer. This, after I was the only one in the waiting room. With my trust level gone, I left before seeing the doc. The one star above is appreciation for all of the support staff who were very helpful. UPDATE: The physician and staff were quickly responsive to my leaving the appointment. They did everything to reschedule my appointment and I received the excellent care I had expected. I am pleased to change my rating to 5 stars. read more

Definitely Do NOT trust your orthopedic care to this center!!! I marked hips and knees as the reason for my visit on their patient form. I am 65, and my Practitioner, Dr. Mark Queralt did nothing to help my osteoporosis or knee and hip pain. He literally did NOTHING! No x-rays, no PT, no prescription for bone growth or injection therapy for joints, and he REFUSED Chiropractic care because it only short term and is not his "philosophy" What about the patients' philosophy? CHIROPRACTORS are DOCTORS too (THEY THEMSELVES have Chiropractic care listed on their website for UT Musculoskeletal Institute)! Dr.(?) Queralt, after seeing me for 30 minutes, read in my 2013 PCPs' report (which I didn't give him permission to read!) that I also have fibromyalgia. He decided that fibromyalgia was causing my neck, back, hips & knees to have problems. This visit was less than 9 wks after I took a fall, landing on my knees and fracturing my kneecap. This doctor visit turned out to be a disservice to me and a waste of time and money. I should have just watched YouTube videos on Osteoporosis. You should never trust a doctor who tries to force a diagnosis that you don't agree with. If he can't see Chiropractic can get patients past the pain in order to continue improving, then he should donate his degree to someone else who can make good use of it. Would you tell someone with a bad headache not to take Tylenol coz it's only short term?We are ultimately our OWN doctors. read more

I really wanted to like UT Health. I went to the open house when the facility opened. We've gone to several doctors there. Although they advertise and think of themselves as providing next level care, in reality they are a traditional medical practice that provides traditional medical care. This is not the problem though. The problem is they bill very aggressively. We disputed a small amount of our bill and was sent to collections over less than $40, in spite of us paying in full the amount we didn't dispute. So now, in order to not have our credit rating impacted, we will pay the bill. I am very disappointed that this large system is so highly focused on revenue and reimbursement that they resort to upcoding. Yet they seem to routinely upcode, and routinely send patients to collections when charges are disputed. Sending your patients to collections should be the exception, not the rule. read more

So this place seems super new and everything from the parking garage ( I totally missed the Low emission parking spaces near the building-- be sure to look for those) to the clinic office is set up for ease of finding your way from the little cards you can pick up to tell you what floor you parked on in the garage to the directional signs to the super smooth elevators. The modern design is eye catching but the actual modular couches aren't very comfy. The check in process seemed like all the kinks weren't ironed out yet. I had a 220 appt and wasn't taken back to the clinic waiting area until 255 seen. Most of that was waiting on insurance verification which in my opinion could have been done before I arrived. The medical assistant Joel was very courteous and efficient. The appointment ladies at the end of visit were quick and helpful. I get kinda nervous driving to new places but this was super easy..Do note they do not validate parking so be prepared to shell out a few dollars. If you pay with cash and need change back they'll give you those funky $1 coins. read more

UT Health Austin is the occupational health and urgent care provider for our staff at The Sobering Center. Dr. Bernacki and all of the other medical providers have been supportive of our mission. They provided guidance for the healthcare needs of our staff. Parking is very easy and free. The building is futuristic with perfect detail given to the design of the clinic. The providers are all smart and friendly. Clinical staff has all been helpful and wonderful to work with. I shopped around to St. Davids, MedSpring and Concentra and found UT Health to be the most comprehensive and valuable OHS provider. It is a major plus that they accept most insurance as well as worker's comp for urgent care needs. I had My right hip replaced in May of 2020. Dr. Bozic was recommended to me after seeing two other specialist. those practices made me feel like I was in a cookie cutter facility. They take their time and listen to what you have to say and explain things in language you understand. They are very kind and caring.
