This is a wonderful, professional, and proper company. Little back story. As part of a Home Warranty call, a different company came in, barely spoke, provided no facts, left, and I got a notice that the evap coil was so dirty it needed to be replaced... $3,000 please I asked for a second opinion because something wasn't adding up. In comes Utah Heating and Cooling, and their epic technician Orson (hope I don't embarrass him). This gentleman worked his tail off in 95 degree heat to diagnose it properly. He provided clear explanations, and had charts and data to validate. Behind that he was extremely professional, and patient. I don't know if this is possible, but if you happen to need a service called managed through AHS, do yourself a favor and convince them to send Utah Heating and Cooling. My home warranty company sent Utah Heating and Cooling to fix my AC when it quit working. The technician, Will, upsold me a "lifetime" capacitor and claimed my home warranty only covered 1/2 the cost. He charged me $377.12. The next day, I looked up the capacitor out of curiosity. It's an AmRad Turbo 200, a universal capacitor that can be adapted to multiple configurations and is available for under $100 from several places online, including Amazon. I was shocked and double-checked multiple times to ensure I was comparing the same part. I understand markup, but almost 4X for my "half" is excessive. I can buy the AmRad fixed-size capacitor for my specific AC unit on Amazon for $35. When I called Utah Heating and Cooling to express my dissatisfaction, they offered to come back and replace the capacitor with a less expensive one covered by my home warranty. Will came back the next day and replaced it, but left the capacitors still in their boxes, stuffed in place and hanging by the wires. I've now escalated to my home warranty company. After speaking with them, a recall is being submitted, and Utah Heating and Cooling will send a "senior" tech out to do a professional job. I'm very disappointed with Utah Heating and Cooling and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

After smelling gas in my utility room Enbridge came out promptly and detected a leak in my furnace. They closed the gas and placed a notice on the line. I immediately called my home warranty company. The next day an individual came out from Utah Heating and Cooling. When he entered my home there was no greeting or identification. He had an unpleasant attitude. I directed him to the furnace and explained Enbridges findings he sharply responded those people don't work for Enbridge they are sales people! What in the world, Enbridge didn't send salesman to assess the gas smell. Next without prompting he stated his customer was the home warranty company. Well that's interesting, I Paid for that warranty and the service call so I AM YOUR CUSTOMER. I was extremely uncomfortable, he seemed as though he was angry over something pre visit and brought his unprofessional poor attitude into my home. I immediately called my home warranty company to express my deep concerns. In short I asked him to leave, with two children in the home I felt disturbed. Trusted my instincts. While he vacated I noticed he wasn't driving a company vehicle rather a private mini van riddled with dents. Not what you'd expect from a licensed, and insured company. Or are they? This company was given the work order to fix our AC units from a home warranty company. They came over FIVE (5) times and each time told us it was fixed, and then it would either not be working as soon as they left, or would stop a day later. it's 100 degrees outside and this house is roasting because they couldn't do their jobs. Always send a different tech, all young guys who apparently were inexperienced. Add to that they would send us a text with a window of time to come over and then after we had arranged our schedules, they would send us another window of time and tell us if couldn't be changed. We'd either have to rearrange our schedules (again!) or schedule for a later date. read more

Clowns!! Call someone else / literally anyone else! I called these guys & told them exactly what was wrong with my tenant's furnace (Induction motor was seized); They came out to do a 1 minute "diagnostic" and low and behold found out that the motor was indeed seized... Which is fine.. I get it you've gotta verify and you're running a business / are going to charge for that diagnostic NBD. Here's where it get's shady... The tech calls back to the home office to find out that they "can't find" a single motor anywhere in the entire State of Utah (only after I can clearly hear the home office rep qualifying with the tech how desperate the situation was / how much I'm willing to pay.) She hangs up and informs me that there's no motors avail so I can either "get the furnace up going quickly" with a full furnace replacement ($10K+) or can I order a motor in from the manufacturer tomorrow (because it was now after hours where the manufacturer (ICP) was located (believe she said Tennessee)). If I go forward it will take 4-5 days to arrive IF I pay for expedited shipping charge. 2 weeks if I don't. The motor will be $550 + $100 expedited shipping + a $100 install fee. ($750.00+tax all in). Thinking that was the only option I said; "I guess it is what it is". The tech said "Ok if you change your mind text me even if it's after hours the phone service goes directly to my cell phone and will get the order cancelled" (recognizing it was less than ideal / I wasn't happy). I went home and found that not only was this "incredibly difficult to find" motor the same exact motor that is in both of my home furnaces but that it can be purchased all over the web for ~$150 (Amazon has them RETAIL for $100 non-OEM or $175 for OEM and these guys are NOT paying retail (in other words it was 2-3x as expensive as it should have been for the parts). I immediately texted as instructed by the rep within 2 hours of the appointment (now 6:30PM) to cancel the order. I took the motor out of my basement home furnace, put it in the tenant's unit (all of a 10 minute job) and ordered myself another motor to be installed by me later in the week. Here's my favorite part - A few days later I get a $115.00 invoice. $85.00 for the diagnostic (is what it is... no problem) and a $30.00 RESTOCKING FEE on the motor that they didn't have in stock to RESTOCK and were not able to order the night of the ordeal because it was after the manufacture's hours.. How do you restock something you don't have and that you haven't ordered. Regardless... Bill's been paid and I'll be calling anyone else going forward. IMO you should too! read more

Utah Heating and Cooling sent Will out to diagnose and repair our furnace. He was very professional and got the work done right and in a hurry. The furnace works great now. There are so many companies out there that spend tons of money on TV advertising, drive fancy vans, and in the end charge outlandish prices for service. All of that money needs to come from somewhere right? The repair charge for my furnace seemed very reasonable and I would use this company again. Don't fall for the TV ads and fancy vans. read more

A Tale of Two Services 20 year old furnace started acting out on Thursday, wouldn't work at all by that afternoon. I saw a TV ad listing a discount from another company that spends a lot on advertising. I won't say their name, but it rhymes with Nipple. Nipple came out Friday morning. (Overnight low of about 20). After they said I needed a new system, I decided to have Utah Heating and Air also come to offer a quote. Nipple: The system is shot. This bolt broke loose, bounced around and broke other stuff. It's hard to get parts for this type anymore, so you would end up spending $1200 to 1500 to fix it. This is a 20-year-old system, and they usually last about 15. If you like, one of our sales guys can come out later to get some info and give you a quote. (My wife agreed that we need to replace, but asked specifically if they could got it running since it's so cold.) Nope, not without spending 1,200 to 1,500. Mike at Utah Heating and Air: Oh, here's what's wrong. Let me fix that. (Fixes in about 5 minutes by replacing a bolt.) The bolt did break off, and did some damage, so you will need to replace the system, but at least now you've got heat. (High of 31 today, anticipated low of 14 tonight.) Nipple: A low efficiency should run about $5k+, or you could go with the high efficiency for more like 6-8k. Those high efficiency are sure nice... Mike: Low efficiency should run about 3,000 to 3,500. High efficiency will be more like $5000. The way your venting is set up, the lower is probably a better fit, plus if you're not sure how long you'll be in the home, that might be the way to go.. Nipple: Did you want to do AC too? (No.) Because your AC is 11 years old, and they only last 10-15 years, so it's toward the end of its life. And if we don't replace it, it cuts the warranty on your furnace in half. That's industry standard. The AC's coils are right above the furnace, and if they freeze up, they'll drip water down on your furnace. I've seen brand new furnaces get ruined that way. That's why the warranty is shortened, since that tends to happen. Mike: How old is your AC? (11 years.) Oh, yeah, it's still got some good years left. You won't want to replace that yet. Nipple: Did you want to talk about financing? No? Well, let me crunch some of these numbers and get back to you with a bid. If you wanted to do that, we could get that install going tomorrow, but it's really busy, and slots fill up, so you might not want to wait... Mike: Let me do some checking on prices, but since you've got heat now, you can take some time to decide. I mean, I could, but at that point I had already decided. Mike did the install. Utah Heating and Cooling was the contractor chosen by my home warranty company to replace a furnace. They were obviously the low bidder; and the furnace they installed must have been very cheap because it had no filter rack at all; unbelievable. In other words, the furnace that they chose is supposed to be installed with a filter rack in the external plenum. But Utah Heating and Cooling actually installed this furnace WITH NO FILTER RACK IN THE FURNACE OR IN THE PLENUM! As a result, I needed to hire another HVAC company to modify the external plenum to accept a furnace filter. Now, what kind of a contractor would install a furnace without any way to add a furnace filter? read more

My home warranty, Landmark, contacted this business to do a furnace tune up. The technicians were did not arrive inside of their appointment window, causing me to reschedule my meetings for the day. And they did not let me know they were running late. When the technicians, a man and a woman, finally showed up, I told them what was going on: my heater was working intermittently, sometimes just blowing cold air. The repair tech Landmark had sent a few days earlier said I needed a tune up, thus them being there. I told them that I had cleaned some things, the woman said I probably broke everything I touched. The man punched a hole in my duct. When I asked why he was doing it, he said it doesn't matter you already have holes on the side. They poked around for a bit, messed with some things, then said they couldn't finish the tune up because the furnace wasn't working. Left me with no answers, an unpatched hole, and a completely broken furnace. ​ read more
