After weeks of research into solar power solutions,  we found that in terms of turnkey solutions,…read more there are really only a few competitors, and of those the two at the top of my list were Sunpower and Tesla. A Sunpower solution has more efficient solar panels, is faster to get going with the parts and engineered design, and is less expensive. We got a great solution for a bit less, and that is good value. The system has a light physical footprint and is well designed. It looks great and has good diagnostic and status displays, as well as a mobile app that works smoothly. There were delays in getting the install started. I had the financing done in July, but install could not get started until October due to the time it took for City approvals to be processed. There were also some technical speed bumps when commissioning the new system. After it was in and fully functional, it performs flawlessly. We are grateful to Custom Electric and Sunpower for  being great partners to work with! Now, we sell power back to our utility company. I wholeheartedly recommend Sunpower and Custom Electric. Great job!

I was favorably impressed with the initial presentation and hopeful about giving my business to…read moreSunPower. Unfortunately, the resulting experience was not good. First, I was expecting to get SunPower (Maxeon) panels but instead they substituted a brand with little documentation called Waaree. I could find no one who had used these panels Next I was told that my 200 amp panel was insufficient and they would need to install a 400 amp panel for an additional $4000. Eventually they learned that St George Power would accept the 200 amp panel. After several redesigns, the plan was submitted to my HOA and rejected, twice. I was mistakenly told that they had prior experience with approvals by my HOA. Also, they did not have an electrician or engineer in attendance at the meeting. One sticking point was they never measured my parapets for HOA compliance. They should have obtained approval from the HOA before proceeding. Custom Energy does not have electricians in the St George area, a big disadvantage. Having a local firm with experience in the St George area would have made the job move forward in a reasonable fashion. My project was never approved after six months time and it didn't appear that the HOA was going to OK it so I reluctantly cancelled with Custom Energy. The final blow in my experience with Custom Energy was a $2000 charge for cancelling, for which I received nothing! I cannot endorse them and hope that you will carefully consider my experience before using this firm for your solar installation.
