Caveat: try to go buy a car on a weekday. We came in at about 3 on a Saturday afternoon and the office was slammed. They only seem to have 3 or 4 salespeople. We were there until after 7 p.m. and a not insubstantial chunk of that was waiting around. Their parking lot was also overstuffed with cars--not sure if they were all inventory or a combo of inventory and customers, but it was not really navigable. Had to park elsewhere and walk. That said, aside from the length of time, we had a pretty great experience with the team at Utah Used Cars. Matt was our salesman and did a great job answering questions and thoroughly explaining the process and options. Helen walked us through each piece of paperwork clearly and efficiently. Everyone was friendly and solicitous, offering water and snacks and even t-shirts. Long process but not complicated and we left with a reasonably priced car we're pleased with. DO NOT STEP FOOT NEAR THIS PLACE. I bought my first car from Matt, the vehicle had been amazingly maintained and everything looked really good. Before I even made my first payment my entire engine blew up on the side of the road. I could have easily been killed. I have to replace it all by myself at 19 years old. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. It has been 5 months and my car is not fixed. He sent it to a shop that doesn't even work in engines. Matt isn't just a bad car salesman he's a bad person. he better watch his back karmas coming. First off, they have limited hours, so be sure to look them up before stopping by. My wife works down the street at eBay, found this gem on a Wednesday. Good thing too - I wasn't aware they were even there, and that was one of the days they were open. We met Matt about 5 minutes before close, and just asked about the company. Ended up getting the website info, got to browse the cars there. Went the next day to test drive and talked to Matt about a few cars there, but again it was late and we wanted to talk over the purchase price, options - all that jazz - before we committed to a vehicle. We followed up today (Saturday) after hours of research on our car model, pricing, safety specs, all the important things (since the first car we were interested in, read up on, etc. was not available at the lot). After several bad car experiences over the years at other dealerships more in the AutoMall/Murray Automall areas, I was extremely surprised at how pain-free this was (aside from a snafu at my mechanic delaying our PPI by about an hour). Matt knew about 80% of the questions we had on the car, and was honest about what he knew and didn't - and when he didn't, he looked it up with us online so we had the same information he did. Straightforward pricing, with great options for warranty and protection. Upfront about repairing the issues with the PPI (we had a minor issue with a strut) and had a work order drawn up since it was well after close when we concluded. Fantastic service from start to finish - from the sales team (Matt mostly, but Lee on the phone, and Helen with the financing), very easy process. This is the 8th car I've bought in my life, since I tend to wear them down for years or until they die. In all that time, the only easier person to buy from was my mom when I was 16. -1 star for not making me some food after purchase like mom did. If you're looking for the haggle game, go to a bigger dealership. Haggle away... to get the same prices we did in 30 seconds of internet searches. If you're looking for the "free air freshener and tank of gas!" by paying $1500 more than you should, go talk to the big guys. If you want good service, honest answers, and advice on a few good places to eat in Salt Lake, go talk to Matt. -1 more star for not getting me an air freshener. My car buying experience here was terrible. The car I wanted needed some repairs so the salesman (Matt) was supposed to keep me updated on the progress--he didn't. I basically had to babysit him to sell this car to me. We had to finish off the process on a Saturday (because he refused to get back to me until Friday evening) which was super busy and we were there like all day trying to get this done. Also, during this week long process of back and forth on this car, the price on KSL had dropped $500 (which we had discussed on Thursday and they agreed they would honor). When it came to sale time though, THEY WOULDN'T HONOR IT! They first tried to convince me that it must've been some KSL glitch (?!) and then they tried to pull the "we're still losing money on this car" shpeal. Their dealership document fees (~$500) are almost double the average dealership fees in Utah. I negotiated their "discount" tire price into the sale of the car which did not end being a discount at all. The tires they put on were pretty low quality (and not the brand we talked about) and when I got the car back, my 'low tire pressure' indicator was on. And it took them 3 HOURS to put them on (which I was waiting around for with 3 kids). I should've walked away because of the terrible customer service here. My father purchased a 2011 Nissan Sentra from Utah Used Car Sales. I went in and checked the car out and felt really comfortable with the dealership. They told me the car has a 90 day warranty but keep in mind this only covers up to $1000 worth of repairs. Well a few days after my dad purchased the car he noticed that at higher speeds the car would lose power. We take it to the Nissan dealership and they said it needs a new transmission. This is about 50 miles of driving after purchasing the car and it needs a transmission. I called the dealership and they agreed the situation isn't great but wouldn't be able to do anything more than refer us to one of their shops. I wouldn't buy a car from these guys again. But if for some reason you do, make sure you do a full pre purchase inspection at the dealership. Don't trust that their cars are reliable or solid. read more

Tiffany and Lee were both extremely helpful. Our car broke down and it wasn't worth it to us to fix it, so we went looking for a new used car. We went to lot of dealerships and test drove over fifty cars trying to find a gem. We had experiences with cars that we took to our mechanic and weren't in as good of a condition as the dealers indicated, we found people who just wanted our money, and people who were too pushy for us. Tiffany was always open to what we were interested in and cared more about our opinions than her own, while still being knowledgeable about the options. We were financed through Cyprus Credit Union through them as they were able to get us the best deal that we could find. I work in retail for a company with high customer service standards, and Tiffany embodied many of those standards for which I was grateful. Just to note some things after reading a few of the negative reviews, I feel that some of them are rather fallacious, but one thing to note is that UUCS's markups didn't seem to be as large as many of the other places we went to. The Fiat that we drove away in was marked just slightly below Kelly Blue Book's suggested retail, so we really didn't try to negotiate, because we felt that it was honestly a great deal. Other dealerships that we went to were regularly willing to drop their prices 1-3 thousand dollars without a problem. To me that is a warning flag: those people know that they're scalping you and even after dropping three thousand dollars, they're still making a profit. UUCS has less flexibility, but that is likely because they're more up-front and honest about their markups. In the end, that was one of the deciding factors in our search. read more

Matt seemed to be helpful at the start showing us exactly what we were looking for, and committed to follow up with us the following day since it was the end of his work day. We never heard back from him and we tried calling several times leaving voicemails. We heard nothing. We called Wednesday morning (the day they opened) and left a final voicemail ( they're highly understaffed ). We finally got ahold of Matt 5 minutes before closing and he informed us it had sold that day. He couldn't have cared less that we were interested and ready for purchase. Vehicle is great so far but we were promised an after market DVD player included in our purchase that they are now refusing to provide and install. We even have a signed "We Owe You" contract document from them that has it listed. I spoke with the manager and he had the audacity to say I was not a good person because I was trying to make them provide it when they apparently made the "mistake" of not including it in the sale price even though I have a document stating otherwise. read more

I called to say that since i had purchased the warranty, I wanted the multiple problems fixed or I wanted to return the lemon. They did not honor the warranty, it was a scam. As a Las Vegas resident, I'm skeptical of car dealerships; especially the local scam artist dealers that pull all of the classic price gouging techniques. Unacceptable line items include '$1,850 market adjustment', '$1,475 desert paint protection', '$880 window tint', '$545 Fabric guard protection', and those 'extended warranties' that cost more than the maximum pay out. While shopping for a car, I'd rather find a 1 year old car with less than 7,500 miles on it. After running a Carfax to confirm a car is clean, just get the VIN and dealer name to to your loan institution and let them do additional background checks like a title search. Talking with the new car dealerships by text and email (to keep the annoyance to a minimum), the car I wanted would have been about $38k (after rebates) plus another $1,500 for dealer add-ons and of course, sales tax. Searching Autotrader, CarFax, and kbb.com, I found a 10 month old car with 4,400 miles at Utah Used Cars for $28k. A quick Travelocity check put the one-way flights at $133. So, a similar car with maybe 5 months of driving on it saves $11,500. And remember, the $11,500 price difference isn't the only savings; the sales tax also drops by $950 (for a NV resident). The key about this; very low miles translates to the factory warranty covering any major issues while the CarFax and a good visual inspection should keep you protected all the way around. Talking with Utah Used Car Sales; I interacted with several UUCS personnel that all worked together over a few day period while I investigated and considered the car. Manager Lee Henrickson and sales rep Lisa were consistent, professional, and friendly. After some discussions/negotiations about the car, I looped in my credit union to do their part. The credit union vetted the car and dealership. A few days later, with cashiers check in hand; I flew up to Salt Lake to test drive and take delivery. It turns out there was a problem with the car; a passenger sun visor was broken/missing. Lee realized the problem and had a replacement visor on the way before I arrived (at his $120 cost). The car was as advertised with the exception of an additional 300 miles on the odometer. Car dealer sales reps and managers often drive their favorite car (from the lot) until it sells. I wasn't thrilled about the extra miles but it was definitely not a deal breaker. Lee, Lisa, and Tiffany (finance) were professional and we finished the paperwork in in less than an hour. After the paperwork and the complimentary UUSC t-shirt, we were on our way. The experience was low pressure and Lee sent the replacement sun visor to me a few days later. I've written good reviews in the past, but never for a car buying experience. I'd recommend this dealership; so much so.......that I just might buy me next car from them. read more

I bought a 2014 Nissan Sentra "As Is" from Utah Used Car Sales about a month ago. Overall I had a positive experience. Their employees were quick to help and answered all the questions I had. They had the paperwork ready to go, got it passed by emissions before I arrived, and made the experience as painless as possible and I am very happy with the car I got from them. A few things to be aware of is that, while they will allow you to check out a car for an extended period of time to go get it looked at by an independent mechanic, you cannot take the car more than a few miles from the shop to do so. So you are looking at taking it to a dealer to do it. However, I do encourage you doing this, because after purchasing it I took it to my mechanic to inspect it and they found just over a thousand dollars worth of repairs that needed to be made to the vehicle. The rear shocks were blown, the trans pan was leaking, and it was missing the cap to the transmission fluid to name a few of the issues. Utah Used Car Sales does say that their house mechanic cleared the vehicle, and they did get it passed by the emissions/inspections, but that was still money out of pocket I ended up paying. Which brings us to warranties. I did buy it "as is", and I did decline the warranty they offered. Whether buying the warranty would've been worth it in hind sight? Maybe. All of their vehicles do come with a limited time, 4 month/4 thousand miles, warranty which I believe is out sourced to a third party. When I called them and asked them if they would cover any of the repairs, the representative assured me they would, however, when the bill came they declined to cover anything. Which was a bit of a let down, but doesn't reflect on Utah Used Car Sales. It does suggest that maybe buying their warranty might be wise, assuming they will cover the things they say they will when you buy it or leave you hanging like the outsourced warranty did me. Which I cannot speak to one way or the other. read more

After a tedious online search for a very unique truck, I was able to narrow my search down to to this small, but sharp dealership. If you are looking for your typical, big dealership experience - this is not your place. But if you know the vehicle you're looking for, do your research - give them a shot. I was impressed by how quick and painless they made the process. The truck I purchased was priced $2k below what I was expecting to pay and they do not 'dicker' on the price. Again, do your own research and give them a shot if you know what you are looking for. For note, I noticed others saying to have an independent inspection done. A state safety inspection should never qualify as a 'used vehicle inspection'. I would go back again. read more

Honestly I have never had so many issues with a car and such poor customer service from management and the Salesman Matt (Don't buy from that guy). I started having issues with the battery (that they said they replaced before giving it to us), then the alarm. I messaged them over email and they replied once not trying to help at all. They frowned upon me taking it to a mechanic before, and all the salesman talked about the whole time he was selling the car was how many cars he sold (as if we care). They wouldn't replace the battery and only offered to pay about $20 bucks towards a $100 or more service for fixing the alarm. I also had to replace the tires 3 months after getting the car (because they sold me bald tires). I contacted them countless times after I have gotten nothing. Sure enough a month later we began having more issues with the car and have spent more time at the mechanic than my other car with 225,000 miles. NEVER BUY FROM THESE GUYS. Bought a 2004 Ford Explorer from them 2 days ago. Today a piston blew and went through the side of the motor requiring a new engine. My mechanic said the piston didn't go bad within 2 days and Utah Used Car Sales knew there was something wrong. I'm a single mom in med school, which the salesman knew, and I feel so taken advantage of. The bad piston is the reason the salesman didn't want me to test drive the car and only relented when I insisted but then only let me drive it 2 blocks. read more

Update: Todd, the person that sold me my car, got in contact with me and was incredibly attentive to my needs and incredibly kind. I hope they know that the reason I rated them so low was not because of their customer service, but because of the company they referred me to for the oil change. They gave me a call as soon as they saw my review to fix the problem, and they gave me my scent bomb and a $25 Visa gift card. We bought a vehicle here. The vehicle was not quite "accurate" to the advertisement that brought us there to look at it in the first place, but we took it to a mechanic for inspection and still felt it was a good value (at the time), so we decided to move forward with the purchase. Potential buyer beware: they weren't really willing to negotiate on price, nor repair some minor discrepancies that the vehicle had (less than $200). In the end, they were only willing to knock off about $85 if we agreed to forego their "3-month Warranty". They also used the "other people are very interested in this vehicle" tactic, which we disregarded at the time as a ploy... but it does show their mindset. Within about a week-and-a-half of owning the vehicle, we were faced with multiple issues and ended up with some pricey repairs such as the transmission and starter. We contacted this dealership about it but were basically told that their "hands were tied". We understand the whole "as-is" process in buying a used vehicle, but have never encountered a dealership that wasn't willing to stand by their vehicle so soon after a purchase. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this dealership. read more

I wouldn't even take a free car from these people. We bought our van two and a half years ago and recently discovered that there were both a 50K mile rollback and a prior accident listed on the Carfax report. When we contacted them, they claimed that they pull Carfax reports for every vehicle they sell and said they would have gone over that with us. We were never told about either issue (we had specifically told them we didn't want a vehicle with any accidents) and there was no Carfax report with the paperwork we were issued (which we kept all of), nor is the rollback reported on the odometer disclosure form as is legally required. To us, it's very clear they saw the issues on the report and chose to hide them to get more money. Our vehicle is now worth thousands less than we believed it to be and we have had thousands of dollars in repairs that we would not have had in a lower mileage vehicle. They also claim there was no rollback done and that it was merely a "fat finger" but the issues we've had asking with the previous mileage reported before the rollback make it obvious it was no typing error. Now we're stuck trying to sell the vehicle with the higher mileage and eating the cost difference because they refuse to work with us. There isn't a more dishonest car dealership in the area. read more

When purchasing a car here, ONLY go through Lee. He's very professional and knows what he's doing. DO NOT go through Bryan. He's a know-it-all. He was let go from his Banking job through Zion's Bank, because of the type of employee he is. You'll know what I'm talking about when you meet him. When you go through Lee you'll feel comfortable and won't feel pressure to purchase a car. He's probably the ONLY one who knows how to treat the buyer, and he knows what he's doing. If it's not through him, walk out of the dealership. Don't let Bryan trick you with his fake nice. He'll tell you that he has two degrees or that he's been in banking and knows what he's talking about but he doesn't. Like I said before, he was FIRED from his job from Zion's bank, the two degrees he got was from schools that are easy to get into and plus who gets two degrees from "prestigious" schools and is a car salesman??? Having worked in the auto loan industry I realize their dealer doc fees were a little higher than other dealerships,however their pricing on their vehicles are much lower. You get more vehicle for your money. What disappointed me is minor, I feel like I should have had at least a full tank of gas and the car washed before I drove off the lot. I purchased a vehicle from this dealership and owned it for a few MONTHS! Lee and Tiffany where great to deal with on a personal level. I have always been leary of little car dealerships but they made me feel comfortable with their business. I am not saying do or don't buy a car here, but what I am saying is make sure you get your own inspection. The vehicle I bought shouldn't have passed safety. I was pulled over two days after purchase for windows to dark and tires too wide. I asked about this at time of purchase and was told "it just passed safety". I took it to the state patrol and they did an inspection and these where the results- tires too wide, windows too dark, brakes need replacing, ball joints need replacing. Beyond these needed repairs the transmission was going out, Fuel filter leaked, thermostats stuck open, and a major fuel leak. The best part is the "extended warranty " is useless! For what little it does cover the allowances aren't enough to even pay for the repair. And if you use it for a major repair it is DONE! it is written in the contract fine print. Dido to the last review on wrong description, mine was totally misrepresented with options that it didn't have. I must assume some responsibility for not having the vehicle checked by my own mechanic and I understand the as-is in used cars I also understand that these are bought at auction and there is no way for these guys to know everything that is wrong with them. They try their best and they did a good job on the service of the sale. They need to FIRE their mechanic and get someone who will actually inspect the car. They also should dump the extended warranty because it is worthless. The purpose of this review wasn't aimed to hurt the business but rather to educate the consumer. If you do choose to buy here take the car and pay the mechanic to inspect it! I can't say that enough! read more
