The price of OPT is $1.25 now, used to be $1.00 per ride when I first came here. The buses are not…read morethe newest, shiniest things. The bus drivers can be friendly, not all of them are though. Can't blame them after dealing with really rude college kids, especially on crazy nights out. The University bus loop comes around very frequently and you can go anywhere within 30 minutes. After 5:30pm, the bus stops going to the main bus stop. On Monday-Saturdays, you can sit in the OPT main office to wait for your bus. The Cooperstown comes every 2 hours on Saturdays. And the Southside bus only begins running at 12 noon on weekends and stops running at 5:30pm. It would be fantastic if there could be a Southside bus that runs later into the night for people that have stuff to do during the day. There is a bus tracker app so you don't need to stand in the cold waiting for a bus!

You really ought to try the public transportation in Oneonta. Not only are the buses clean, super…read moreair-conditioned and very inexpensive, they also run all over town. If you ever visit Oneonta, you can be instantly shuttled to Cooperstown and visit Glimmerglass Opera, or the Ommegang Brewery or Baseball Hall of Fame. Or ride to Otsego and surrounding towns. I love walking to town and jumping on the Southside bus - that hits all the good stores in the mall, with the addition of stopping at the Hannaford, as well as BB&B, the movies, Office Depot, and {ugh} Wal-Mart! Alternatively, one could get their daily walk in (about 45 minutes to Hannaford from the SUNY campus) and then pick up the bus back. The SUNY campus has a couple stops, one at the library and the other near Alumni Hall and the dorms. When the kids come back from school, I hear the bus drivers drive them a little farther so they don't have to walk all the way to the dorms with heavy suitcases. Nice! They have cool schedules. Running every half-hour, all the buses meet together on Main St., so they totally always are sitting together for 5 minutes. Student rate is $1. What else? The Drivers are extremely friendly, courteous, laid back and have always been out-of-their way friendly to me. But they don't stop for latecomers!

We are so fortunate to have service of this caliber in a small city like Ithaca/Tompkins. You can…read moreessentially get anywhere in Tompkins County by bus. Service is very impressively on-time. (Complainers: You can use real time tracking to find out where your bus is, btw.) Drivers are kind, safety-trained, and professional, including being kind in the face of verbal abuse. Rides are stunningly inexpensive, in spite of rising gas prices. (That's why I ride.) Fare hasn't changed in at least 15 years. Many options for paying, including cash, credit card and phone. My favorite aspect, though, is the TCAT organization is exceedingly social justice-minded. If someone doesn't have their fare, drivers let them go. TCAT is very concerned with allowing underserved and marginalized (carless) residents to have the dignity of transportation which allows them to live a decent life. They base routes on ridership data and community needs. I ride the bus daily to way outside the city, so I see the community of friendship on these buses. *TCAT deserves huge props for service that's difficult, thankless, and costly to provide.*

Absolutely fucking pitiful.
