The customer service here is terrible overall. Most of the employees seem more focused on chatting with each other rather than actually helping customers... When they do help they are very rude and make me feel like I'm an inconvenience to them, like I'm interrupting their conversation or wasting their time. This has especially been my experience with an employee by the name of "Alberto", who has been extremely rude and always seems miserable being there. I've never felt so unwelcome at a place that I was genuinely putting my money into. I'm not saying that every employee is this way but there is more bad than there is good. A word of suggestion: hire employees who actually have customer service skills and make customers feel welcomed instead of employees who act miserable and bothered whenever they have to help someone read more

Tried multiple times with this place ... super cool selection of games and product however the customer service is awful. Both times trying to buy cards and it was impossible to get the guys behind the counters attention . One kept moving product then was yelled at by another employee to not do that and answer the phone . Again not either of them acknowledged us. Then the yelling dude went back over and just kept talking about his weekend with his friends . Since then we've thankfully found much nicer stores with people who actually wanna help people and makes sales. read more

This place is huge, and the staff inside are super friendly and so down to earth. They sell a very big selection of video games, especially for retro lovers like me. Everything is displayed quite well and spread out, making it easy to browse through each of the aisles to see what they have. Prices are fair and in line with the online retail market. They also offer disc resurfacing and console repairs as well! The store also specializes in trading card games like Pokemon and Magic. When I stopped by to explore the store, I met some really nice staff and customers. It felt like a great spot to shop or just hang out with friends who share the same hobbies. They got a little bit of everything and also host weekly card tournaments too! I got to witness a live Magic the Gathering event on my random visit, which was a fun experience and gave me a good feeling of nostalgia. Oh man oh man this store is the best. From retro video games to Pokemon cards. Magic cards, all the gaming accessories you may need. This place has dang near it all. A wonderful spot to come and hang out. Even just browse. Everyone here is super friendly whether it be the people you're playing with, or the service of the employees Everyone behind the counter is super knowledgeable will help you out with just about any question you may have. The play area is spacious and even when it's packed back there. There is always plenty of room for everyone. I enjoy coming here every Monday I'm able to play commander. We've been regular customers at Utopia for MTG products and singles, but after this experience, we won't be returning. On Tuesday, I called ahead to ask about trading in a sealed TCG product. I was told to come back Wednesday when a specific employee would be there and that the trade could be done for either cash or store credit. On Wednesday at 4:48 pm, I called again to confirm the specific sealed TCG product I'd bring in before driving across town after work. I was told they could do store credit only, which was completely fine, and I confirmed I'd be there before 5:15 pm. I arrived at 5:12 pm and went straight to the trade-in counter, only to be told they couldn't help me because the specific employee had already left, and apparently leaves at 4:30 pm. No one took responsibility, no solution was offered, and despite explaining that I had called twice and was explicitly told to come in, I was basically told "there's nothing we can do." That's unacceptable customer service, especially for a store we've consistently supported. If you can't honor what your staff tells customers over the phone, don't give the green light for people to rearrange their schedules and drive across town. Take your business to Collector's Ward in Oakdale instead where you'll find great product and actual customer service there. read more

I've been looking for Majoras' Mask for the 3DS for a month now, and I've been checking these guys out once a week to see if they have it in stock. Whether it be over the phone or in person the staff is always so friendly and was always encouraging me to keep searching/checking back with them. The final time I called and they did have it in stock, they were kind enough to put it on hold for me until I got off work. Only card shop/game store I shop at now. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. The store is clean and well organized. If you're into table top games, card games, video games, etc. they've pretty much got everything you need. Their prices are fair and they give you good deals on trade-ins. I haven't gone to any yet, but I see them putting on a lot of events for things like MTG tournaments and what not. Seems like they've done a lot to build up the gaming community here in Modesto. I've been to a few card shops in the 209 and usually leave unhappy with how overly priced some of the single Pokemon cards are but this place prices the majority of the single ungraded Pokemon cards close to market value. I've bought multiple packs of Pokemon cards they put together at different times over span of about a month realized many of the cards were fake out of 25 card packs 10 I can see are at least fake (dark, thick paper or laminated feeling and faded, thick blurry words) didn't realize till we had bought maybe 6 packs that sooo many are fake not to mention the new packs they do sell are marked way way up. read more

When asked about pokemon related games, I was told that "it's in a corner" and gestured towards the general area where it should be, but I ended up having to look around. Love the new store! The entrance is great and inviting for gamers. I have been to other stores that are staffed with awkward people and they make you feel put-off. The staff at Utopia Games were very friendly. The owner (sorry forgot his name) helped me and offered me a few card sleeves and only needed 3 for mailers. Hands down the best game/hobby/collectible store in a 100 mile radius. Their selection of Pokemon, D&D, MTG, and video games is 2nd to none. The central valley is lucky to have this store, most stores this large relocate to the bay area and increase their prices. Utopia has grown exponentially over the last 3-4 years but have kept their prices steady and fair. On top of all of that, Cody and Brian are also just super chill dudes who create a welcoming and fun atmosphere. If you come in regularly, they recognize you and treat you like family. Will never shop here again!!! Brought my son here on his 9th birthday to pick out some new Pokémon cards for his Birthday. The staff was nice and patient with my son as he was deciding on what he wanted. We bought over $80 worth of Pokémon tins and boxes. When we got home and opened one of the boxes, the card packs were already opened and not one of the packs had a code card nor even a hollow or reverse hollow all crap cards. At least we got the jumbo and promo card out of it. My husband tried to take the box back to at least get our $20 from the box that was bogus and of course no refunds. They definitely lost a customer. We will stick to Walmart and Target for Pokémon cards in the future. read more
