We were given a quote and dropped off the controllers to be looked at. While we were there we had so much fun looking at all the retro games, consoles, accessories and cards that they have at the shop. Everyone was really nice, helpful and welcoming and we were really impressed with the whole experience. They ended up calling us a couple days later to let us know the diagnosis for our controllers and what they'd be doing to fix them up. The final cost was below the quote and we're so happy to be able to play some classic games with our well loved controllers again.

I purchased red dead redemption recently and it kept freezing In the loading screen. I called them as I live in Merced and was not going to make it back out to Modesto within the 7 day return/exchange period. Diego said since I contacted and stayed in touch he would accept my return or try and clean up the disc when I came in. When I did make it in after cleaning the disc a scratch remained and he recommended that i try their sister store utopia down the street since he did not have another copy. I found it at utopia and ended up getting the zombie version and red dead two also. I went back to return the copy I purchased from laughing crow but asked if I could exchange it for some enamel pins and cleaning the discs I bought instead of a refund since utopias disc cleaner wasn't working. He was pleased with the idea and we agreed on that. My experience with this store has been positive and it's clear this business and its workers stand by their product and their word. Unfortunately, the visit was disappointing from the moment we arrived. The storefront looked boarded up with wood covering much of the exterior, and it was so dark inside that I honestly couldn't tell if the store was open. Once inside, my girlfriend's son politely asked the employee behind the counter how much a pack cost. The employee responded with, "I can guarantee it's more than you have in your wallet." I was shocked by how rude and dismissive that was, especially toward a kid. That's not the kind of welcome I would expect from an employee. I then told him I wanted to purchase three Prismatic Evolutions packs. He looked at me and said, with an attitude, "You know they're like $20 each, right?" I told him that was fine, but the interaction left a bad impression. What should have been a fun and memorable experience for the kids turned into an uncomfortable one because of the poor customer service. I spent $100 on 6 packs of cards and i was going to buy more cards but didn't want to give them anymore business. I won't be shopping here again and cannot recommend this store based on my experience.

The issue was not a big deal, almost expected, but what was not expected was how much the employee was able to help. Feels great to finally find a game store that still cares more about the customer than ripping off normal people. These guys are great and the prices seem pretty reasonable, especially compared to other places. Games are organized alphabetically, with clear sections for each manufacturer, making your hunt for your latest video game obsession as easy as possible. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, with a lot of knowledge on the games they're offering if you have any questions. Prices seem pretty reasonable as well! Retro gaming can get expensive. I wouldn't say Phoenix Games is a bargain, but they're definitely not out to nickel and dime you from my experience. Overall, I'm always stoked to stop by when I'm in the area -- whether just to browse, or because I have a specific title in mind.
