Wonderful seafood and meat department. Typically the prices are high but that's because you can't get most of the things other places in Seattle. The wagyu they carry is wonderful. A-5 from Japan They have a hot bar but I don't usually get anything from there. Just get what you can't at the normal grocery store. read more

I wish i could give it no stars and shut this place down. It dawned on me as I was looking for a place to take my girl out to eat. I saw this place and it reminded me of something that I saw years ago. I used to be a hood cleaner (not anymore, I moved on to bigger things). Well, I used to clean the kitchen hoods here at Uwajimaya Village in Bellevue, Wa. One night cleaning there hoods, I noticed meat (pork) on a hook, hanging (thawing) from a dish rack, while a square box fan was blowing dirty room air onto the meat to help speed up the thawing process. Need I remind you, the meet was not wrapped and the fan (the side that sucks air) was covered in lint and dirty stuff (hair, dead skin cells, etc.,) that was floating in the air. It was at that moment, nothing seemed right. I then stepped out the kitchen and noticed food (finished and ready to be eaten food) displayed behind glass for customers to see before purchase. 1 food there caught my eye. I then walked around and saw the same pork (drizzeled in what look like some kind of thick soy sauce/ bbq sauce). I forgot what it was labled, but, it was PORK and it all looked very gut wrenching!!! I just couldn't believe my eyes. Thought I'd share this. Take it for what it was. I couldnt share this in the past cause it could have conflicted with my work. Family comes first. Now that i dont clean hoods, especially theres, I feel as though people should know. Im sure that if they havent cleaned up since than, maybe they will now, after reading this message. All I want to know, is, how can you prep and serve this food like this? I found (on yelp photos/from previous post) the meat that was displayed like from when I seen it. This new location of the Eastside Uwajimayas is awesome! I still mourn the loss of the Larry's Supermarket that used to be in this space (think yuppie store)..... But a Uwaj is the next best thing! They have a wonderful selection of ingredients, fresh produce, meats and seafood, plus frozen. If you want Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese or Japanese ingredients (or plain ol' American) this place is great! One item I buy again and again are the fresh Lamb Patties... they make a mean burger (along with my homemade Tsatziki sauce made with plain Greek yogurt, garlic, fresh chopped Mint and diced Cukes). They sell them at a reasonable price and they are delicious-- as are the Kobe beef burgers. I also buy thinly sliced beef for Sukiyaki here, and sometimes shrimp or clams. There is a deli for hot asian foods, which is clean and excellent. They also have wines, beer, and desserts. The store is really laid out well, and even when they are really busy, they have several checkout lanes open, so things move quickly. There is a huge parking lot. The inside is so clean and new. I love the "Cherry Blossom" display in produce (made up of pink LED lights). They also have wonderful gifts in the gift dept. This is SUCH an improvement over the former Eastside store, and more conveniently located too! read more

We came here on opening day. The ad said they opened at 8, but when we came, it was posted it will open at 11 instead. So we drove around, checking the neighborhood. This brand new store was so crowded! The deli area had a long line of people buying lunch. I especially love the seafood area, with tanks of crabs and lobsters, oysters galore!! The kitchen area is much smaller than the store in Seattle...I used to spend hours looking at their selection of plates and dishes and kitchen equipment. The fruit section offered a lot of exotic selection, I saw rambutan, star fruits, dragon fruits, cherimoya.. We did not buy much, since it was our last day of our trip, and we had dinner reservation for that night, but I am sure every time we visit Bellevue, we will come here to buy groceries!! I am a big fan of this Uwajimaya. It is spacious with a huge variety of food. I love their deli section as well as their sushi section. They have a huge produce section in the front of the store, a decent size wine and sake selection in the back corner, and a good size meat section. It's clean and bright. Go earlier for the fresh selection and faster lines since by the late afternoons they are down to one or two cashiers and their fresh selection is picked over pretty much completely. Be careful in the parking lot. It is a huge parking lot, but the spaces are a bit small. Also for some reason people seem to drive rather erratically here and that has been the case when Larry's Market was here. read more

Just stop wherever you are doing and head over to this grocery store. And if you love sushi, sashimi, seafood, bring a pillow and get ready to faint. I prefer the Seattle store to the Bellevue for selection only, but this store has everything you could want. Also, amazing produce, and all around it has very you could want. And if you can't cook, like me, well this place is a must. I love this place, and it's worth the 30 minutes and parking zaniness. Uwajimaya is an bit of a trip to Asia right on the corner of 156th and NE 24th. It's success on the Eastside reflects the growing Asian and Indian population. As a passionate observer of cultures, shopping there is one of my favorites The store is great fun to visit and is also the best source of fresh fruits, vegetables and fish on the Eastside. The riot of colors and shapes in the produce section at Bellevue Uwajimaya is a treat to the eyes, but I buy produce here because it is fresher and less expensive than at local grocery stores. The seafood department is even more fun to walk through, but I buy fish here because it is fresh, and usually a lower price than the grocery stores. read more

I stopped in quickly for a few deli items. Everyone I. The deli was helpful and kept the line moving. At about 12:30pm I check out at the deli. A lady with longish black hair in her 30s/40s went out of her way to show me a specific meat meal I was asked to pick up. She took me where it was located and made sure I picked out the right one. I love Uwajimaya but I hate coming here recently because the employees are just rude and unprofessional. My most recent trip consisted of an employee hitting my sister with a cart then later a different employee hitting me with a u boat of product. The final nail in the coffin was an employee running over to me scolding me saying I couldn't use self check out because I had more than 15 items(I only had 12). I'm really not a hard person to please but this place just annoys me now. read more

I love this place. Time was lost in there. So much to see and shop for. We eat at the Deli because I love their soup! Give me a bowl of noodle soup any day. Most people buy the food and take out. I like eating it when it's nice and hot and you definitely get that when you order the soups. I like it that the aisles are nice and wide and lots of products that you don't get anywhere else. Their location is out of the way but that makes less traffic jam getting out of the parking lot. read more

It's a hit or miss when it comes to the beef stew at the deli. Lately, 2 out of the 4 times I have ordered the lunch meal with the Filipino Beef Stew, I ended up with mostly inedible beef skin. they (inexplicably) have an ellenos greek yogurt stand in there - best yogurt ever! like any good Japanese grocery store, they have a lot of prepared foods to pick up. from fried hot foods to packaged sushi. not all of it is good but enough of it is. unlike your average Japanese grocery store, they have lots of other Asian foods there. prices were decent. read more

This is definitely a great Asian market! Their selection is nice and large, prices are a bit higher but not bad! In addition to the grocery section, they have Fuji Bakery, Ellenos Greek Yogurt, Milk Tea, freshly made sushi, a deli, and a grest gift/home section so they have just about anything you may want or need. They have a decent sized parking lot and it's pretty easy to get to from 405 as well. read more

It's true that it's a little more expensive than other Asian grocery stores, but their produce is really fresh and their curated selection of teas, ice cream mochi, and fresh sashimi is worth it. Uwajimaya has high quality stuff. Food court has roasted duck, Chinese roast pork (with crackling), and croquettes (korokke). If you need something quick to pick up for lunch, they have ready-to-go gyuudon and katsudon, as well as some cold items. read more

They have all that plus great poke and all the imported Asian snacks you could want. I love that they have small suppliers in the store as well, just like in the Food Halls of Tokyo. This neighborhood grocery has the goods... most of the time, but it depends on what you're looking for. Groovy Chinese and Japanese toys? OMG, you will be in heaven, especially if you read those languages and can figure out what's actually IN some of the unlabeled boxes without breaking the tape seals. LOL Some boxes have pictures which help, and their Hello Kitty section is legendary. My 7-year old's eyes just about fell out of her head at all that pink plastic goodness. Ramen or other noodles? You think you'd be happy, but this is actually where things fell apart for me. There's literally a whole aisle of noodles... but they don't have what I want, bales of plain ramen noodles. I used to buy these in the tiny Chinese markets in Philly, 10 "flakes" of ramen in a big plastic wrapper for 59 cents (this is the equivalent of 10 packets of ramen noodles). I survived on packages of those noodles, carrots, and celery for over a year as a poor 19 year old, and I miss them. They have every kind of interesting vegetable and fruit in the produce section, most of it beautifully crisp and fresh; I had fun introducing my kids to kumquats, which they'd never had before. They have tons of different fish and sushi preparations in the refrigerated meat cases, but some of them look really sketchy to me. The frozen food section, the candy/crackers section, and the canned goods aisles are all extensive, full of crazy-fun treats. Sour candies are especially popular with my kids. And of course, if you're serious about cooking any kind of Asian cuisine and want the raw ingredients or prepared sauces and what-not, they are likely to have it here. Best of all, the people working there are efficient and friendly. They not only tolerated my dumb blonde white-girl questions about fish sauce and starfruit, but the Korean guy stocking the noodle aisle and I had a great discussion about the different kinds of ramen; he commiserated that they didn't have the kind I want (but he said that they usually do), and he suggested a substitute that I might not have tried but that I really like. Have you ever looked at any of those pre-packaged noodle bowls with flavor packets? It's astonishing how many of them are over the US RDA in sodium in just a single snack-size bowl! The cashier offered my daughter a piece of mango chewing gum. She was on sensory overload but she still tried it, loved it, and the gal gave her two more pieces. I thought that was really nice of her. The store itself has been there for a number of years, and while it's clean, it's definitely not brand-new-Whole-Foods sparkling. Who cares? The health department says it's OK. But while I'm so glad that they have restrooms that customers can use, they are not super-clean... but clean enough. LOL Finally, my favorite find last time: banana-flavored corn puff snacks. Just like Cheetos, but not. The "wrong" taste (banana, not fluorescent orange cheese) fucks with your brain, if you're from here, but I think I like them anyway. read more

This is strictly a review of the ramen served in the food court area. I was so excited when I found out my Saturday class was only blocks away from the Bellevue Uwajimaya. After reading this post (http://www.yelp.com/topic/bellevue-takohachi-ramen-at-bellevue-uwajimaya#bCmbibSHcL0891vXNZ6RcQ) a while back about Takohachi Ramen being served here, I made a mental note to try it someday. Well, today was that someday. I ordered the miso ramen with kimchi. The broth was bland, greasy, and flavorless, even after a heaping tablespoon or two of soy sauce was added. I stopped eating it altogether when the kimchi ran out, as it tasted like nothing after that point. I left hungry and unsatisfied. I am literally eating instant Top Ramen as I write this and it is 1000 times better than the shit I was served a couple hours ago. Go to Samurai Noodle if you want ramen that is actually edible. read more

When I go inside Uwajimaya, I get a sense of what it must be like to emigrate to another country, where everything is different and I don't speak or read the language. It's challenging and a little intimidating: Aisles and aisles of foods I don't recognize with labels I can't read. The good news, though, is that the staff is friendly and oh so helpful - they don't always know exactly what I mean, but they will always go find someone who can answer the question I have and locate the item I need. This is an exceedingly good thing, because I've lately become obsessed with a Sichuan cookbook, so I come into the store with long lists and lots of questions. I love that I not only leave with what I need, but the prices are very reasonable - much cheaper than buying the same items online. It's also more fun - there's a lot of unique candy and snacks to taste, unusual ice creams, sometimes a sample station. The produce section is fantastic - very fresh produce at often very nice prices. The store is clean and bright. Uwajimaya is a great stop if you need an Asian specialty food item, but also if you just want to explore and not break the bank doing it. read more

This place is smaller and not-as-good as the Seattle location... just like the Eastside itself ;) No, really though, it's a bit dingy, the way a proper local market should be [like the Old Uwajimaya in the ID] but it's still charming. That, and for those of you who drive, they have a huge, free parking lot. Much more than the downtown Seattle location I've found boxed items post-expiration date [after buying a box of year-past-expiration curry mix once, I've begun checking] so be sure you're looking BEFORE you buy! The staff varies from very friendly to "uhhhh why are you talking to me...?" but fortunately is heavily weighted towards the former. I'd say this location is a great satellite, but I'd prefer to bus down to the international district to go visit the larger store. read more

Made a pilgrimage to Uwajimaya Bellevue this weekend with the kids after we missed food at the awesome Aki Matsuri festival at BCC. This is a small store, so obviously you're going to find better variety and selection at the bigger Seattle & Renton stores. If you're making a special trip for "Asian ingredients", to stock your pantry or the like - you'd be better off going to one of the bigger stores or even to H Mart. I find the Bellevue branch worth visiting for two reasons: nostalgia & location. As the previous reviewer noted, this place has the character of the old ID Uwajimaya when it was on King Street - a vibe I miss, no matter what they offer at the new store. It's like walking into a 1:5 scale model of the larger stores, with even representations in the deli, dry goods & fish/meat. The sashimi selection is decent sized for such a small store. The gift section is a total blast from the past, tiny with odd (fun) finds. I got a bunch of little "Cutey Honey" rice bowls here this weekend for 99 cents each. My advice: worth the stop if you're in the area, but don't rely on the deli to satisfy you with so many other delicious Asian offerings nearby. read more

Okay. This is a review for the Chinese grab and go food section here. Seriously, the worst thing I've ever eaten. I paid and took two bites, threw away the whole thing. This is my favorite Asian grocer by far! Being Japanese and from Hawaii I appreciate all the stuff I grew up with both Asian and Hawaiian. When I miss home there's Zippy's chili (on a bowl of rice, yummo), Portuguese sausage (so good McDonald's in Hawaii serves it on their breakfast platter), Okuhara's fish cake ( in my ramen), Hawaiian Sun juice (Passion/Orange is the bestest ever), Diamond Bakery creme crackers, Hawaiian host chocolate covered macadamia nuts and more. The seafood department is better than most and since Japanese and us Hawaiians are so picky about seafood. it's very fresh. I can even get Hawaiian Ogo (seaweed) to make Poke. If you have to ask what Poke is you have no clue. Too bad for you. The food court is small (Renton's is bigger but the new Bellevue one opening soon should be bigger yet). Food is tasty and the sushi fridge has some tasty choices to grab and go. Produce is the reason I go there. Reasonable prices and fresh as a daisy. Everything from gai lan to Negi to Hawaiian papaya. I once saw Japanese eggplant at QFC for $ 7.99 a pound. I can get rib eye steak for $ 5.99 on sale. Needless to say I am seldom seen at QFC any more except to buy stuff on sale. You won't find places with better rice selections although H Mart sometime has better prices. Every conceivable condiment from Chinese to Thai to Korean although H Mart has more Korean stuff. if that maters. Sake and beer is plentiful and prices competitive. Koshihikari beer at $5 a bottle is pricey but try just one like when you get a promotion or bonus at work. MMMMMMM Tasty! Can't wait till March 25th when the new Bellevue one opens in the old Larry's off 8th. I will do an update after I visit that one. read more

Uwajimaya is always on our weekly stop for groceries. For one thing, they have usually have all the really good (and hard to find) Asian treats, like Green Tea Kit Kat, rice crackers, Meiji cheese curls, Tohato caramel corn, etc... They're meat is always of superb quality and the seafood department has a really great selection. It's a bit pricey, but you pay for quality. read more

Let's say you wake up one morning, look to your snack supply and think "Holy crap, I'm out of Pocky!". As panic and doubt over your chances of survival cloud your mind, you suddenly realize a beam of sunlight in the horizon is guiding you to....Uwajimaya. The new Bellevue location is awesome. Besides Pocky, the usual goodies are there as well, from interesting cuts of meat (all hail sukiyaki!), to dumplings, to delicious sake, and so much more. I sometimes get lost wandering around the many delicious things that catch my attention. Many months ago for a limited time they were carrying orange cream filled chocolate mochi. I'm fairly certainly I attained immortality after eating it. Sooooo good. This is the holy grail of grocery shopping, people. You know what you must do! read more

I really love this store, and the attached restaurant. I feel it has more authenticity and a more relaxed atmosphere than the one downtown, though the prices for the same items are probably the same. Parking is definitely easier here, and it just seems more relaxed. A great selection of food, and for my tastes, the attached restaurant has great noodles with very fresh vegetables. read more
