I'm not sure what the reason is, but interactions like this are a big reason I've chosen to return to Forum, another Asian supermarket in the area. Jmart truly excels in product selection but falls short in the customer service department. There were clean floors and clean cages. I smelled birds but no poop or rotting anything. The chickens have fluffy smooth and beautiful feathers. The ducks are so cute and seem to be waddling about in their cages quite happily. One Guinea hen gave me an angry look; Do you think that she was self aware enough to hate us? Probably. The other fowl were quite contented looking and were human friendly. The wells for water was clear and clean. The animals were drinking from there freely. The poultry masters were very respectful to the animals. I overheard one of them say to a customer, "Make up your mind which one you want because don't go in and out of there over and over. It upsets them." Other customers told my Grandmother (the one who insisted on checking this place out) that the poultry here were absolutely the smoothest meat and sweet. Fear and stress often give meat a gamey consistency and a musky taste. I believe that if you eat meat, you should respect where your food comes from. Not only should an animal be treated well while alive, but you should appreciate what they have given you once they are on the plate. You shouldn't waste food because these creatures had given their lives to nourish your body.

This is definitely a good place to check out for bags of rice or beans and South Asian spices. Another solid purchase were the frozen spicy Punjabi samosas. I was hoping they'd have these frozen dosas that I've purchased elsewhere--they make a nice lunch option--but I didn't see any. This is a personal annoyance, but the men who run the store are always standing in some part of the store planning something, but they seem to have no regard for letting their customers get around them. They also misrepresent their prices a lot. This may seem trivial, but I'll buy pears for 1.99 a pound and they ring up at 2.50. That can add up! They may offer 2 for 5 dollars of something and not honor the deal unless you call them out. One time I bought mustard oil with 9.99 written on the bottle and it rang up as 50 dollars. I now have to take pictures of the prices on the shelves to make sure they are charging me what's advertised.
