These guys, they take that all away...and I'm not kidding. I know whatever I give them, they fix it and bring it back to an OEM spec all while doing it at a price that I almost feel guilty every time I come back. Let me give you an example... BMW part number 12317804266 is a massive 220 AMP alternator for a diesel X5 I need rebuilt. Brand new, they run anywhere from $400ish (cheap knock offs, which I won't buy) to around $1,200 OEM from the factory...I encourage you to google that part number listed and see for yourself.....but also, more importantly to go down there and see how much you'll save. They may not be the most talkative or engaging folks I've brought business to but I don't blame them. I wouldn't want to deal with me either...I can be a bit much, and sometimes admittedly I get lost in the details of whatever I'm interested in the moment......Like today - it's alternators.

Brake pads, alternators, starters, etc. My old Nissan pickup with 450,000 miles (finally sold) was a nightmare to the parts counter: buy it once, and return every 100K or so for warranty replacements. It worked good for me! The Jasper AutoZone has been my main shop for the last 6 years. They always have what I need from my Ford truck and Hyundai Sonata. I even have a few classics that I can get parts for at "the Zone." The counter staff is always helpful and courteous. They'll also recommend things that I might need to do a job - I have most of what I need for most jobs, but I appreciate the reminder. It's an up-sell for them, but if you get into the job and don't have what you need to finish the job, it means another trip to the store, or a corner cut. They don't always have what I need - but I can come up with some pretty unusual requests. It never hurts to ask before I have to seek special attention. I can't remember any time that I was genuinely disappointed with any of the AutoZones that I've used.

But began taking my Ford truck here for regular service - mostly oil changes. Then started bringing my Hyundai Sonata as well - not as good of luck with the Hyundai dealer - which is a 45 minute drive to the closest one. Service appoints are pretty easy through the web site. Very little waiting to drop off, and service is usually performed in a reasonable amount of time. One recent event bears special mention: I bought tires for the truck here last year - the 80,000 mile Michelin set at the dealer cost about the same here as the 40,000 mile "other" brand at the local tire shop. So when it was time for the Hyundai to get new sneakers, I came back here to shop. I chose a mid-level tire for this one - the price was great and I ordered a set to be installed the following weekend. When I arrived, the car was taken to the shop. A few minutes later, the service manager came to the waiting room with an embarrassed look on his face... when the delivery arrived, they got only one of the 4 tires I ordered. Oops!! "So what do we do," said I. He called around and found a better set than I ordered and offered them for the same price. No complaints from me! It took a little more time than I had expected, but I was released the same day, so I didn't have to come back. I was told later that the other three tires arrived two days after my appointment. Now, I could complain that I wasn't told that the complete order wasn't received on time, but the staff on hand was honest and did their best to correct the problem with a minimum of fuss. Caveat: I'm a long-time DIY mechanic. I decided to stop doing oil changes and routine service when I bought my 2012 F-150. I'll still change brake pads and do other replacement part service - I enjoy it and my local AutoZone provides lifetime warranties in whatever parts I get there. But the "works" package from Ford (oil/filter with inspection and tire rotation) costs me only a little more than the cost of oil and the filter. As a DIY-er, I don't have a lot of recommendations for mechanics, but I can say that our local Ford shop does a great job!

I live almost 2 hours and 100 miles round trip from the dealer, so I was waiting until we got within the range I was looking for before making the drive up, and we did, or so I thought. I got there, they had the paper with the numbers on it, we were going to finalize everything until they came back and did the old bait and switch and said the numbers they provided were numbers for an EcoBoost and not the GT Premium. I wasted that time, put those miles on my trade-in, and I thought I was driving away with the new car since the deal was basically already done. Such a waste of time working with those guys when the deal was right there. No honor in their word at all.

I spoke to the guy on the phone after he removed the part and he should have told me about the poor condition and given me a discount. Instead, he charged me $55 without comment on the poor condition of the part. I should have gone to Ebay. I also had to tell him how to remove the part because he didn't know. I was glad to do this, but am not glad to receive a badly worn and warped part without warning and after paying full price and shipping. It's almost worth the hassle, time, and shipping to return the part and order another from Ebay, but not quite.
