When choosing a company to do work on your septic system do your research. This company had been taking care of this house long before I purchased it in 2018. I had asked the owners for a list of companies that they had used. Being concerned about older equipment, I started changing out equipment. First one was the septic pump. This company came out and installed a new pump. Problem after problem. It would pop the breaker. Reset the breaker go a bit and pop again. Came to a point that they wanted me to claim I messed with the pump itself. NO, I didn't touch the pump. Had another company come out to replace the pump again. Within a short time the repair tech found that the pump had been installed with 2 wires crossed. So all this time 2 wires were crossed. I will never use or recommend Vac Tec to anyone. read more

Let me start by saying that I will NEVER do business with Vac Tec again and would never recommend them. We were selling a house so I contacted Vac Tec to pump the tank and do the mandatory inspection. They came back to us and said that all of the risers were broken and needed to be replaced, at a cost of almost $3500. We were shocked because the risers had been replaced the year before. To save money, we decided to dig up the area ourselves. After this was done, we looked and only one of the risers had issues. As it happened, the Pierce County Health inspector stopped by. We told him that Vac Tec said we needed to replace all of the risers. He looked and confirmed that we only needed to replace the broken one (the others needed to be secured not replaced, was all). I made a call to Vac Tec and talked to Jake who I believe is the manager. He still said that he thought all of them should be replaced but he could just do what we requested at a cost of $2170. To me, it just felt like the whole thing was about getting paid as much money as possible because he knew that we were selling the house. I was not interested in doing any more business with a company that doesn't have integrity or ethics. So I called Frontier Septic and they came out and did the work that needed to be done for $850. Health inspector was satisfied and the house closed on time. So if you want to work with a reputable company and also save yourself extra money by not having to pay for unneeded repairs, go with a company other than Vac Tec. read more

I had Vac Tec do a routine septic tank pump. After completing the job, they informed me that the baffle needed to be replaced. I purchased the house five years ago and at that time the baffles were replaced so I was a bit perplexed. I live in Denver CO and rent the home out so I didn't have much choice but to take their word for it and replace the baffle. I asked the receptionist if the owner could call me to explain the charges twice. Both times no one called me back. Apparently this $1300 and change project didn't warrant any explanation to the homeowner. They have my credit card, so I ended up paying them via check to avoid the credit card charge. I have no idea if I was scammed or not. All I would have needed was a call from someone to explain. Here's a summary of the charges below. Seems excessive, but then again, what do I know! The team at Vac-Tech is amazing. I realized the day before Thanksgiving that I had major septic issues going on...and I was hosting 20 people! I called at 3:30 pm and they closed at 5. Jackie in the office was great! She really knows her stuff. Brandon came out right away and thought it would be a quick fix. Unfortunately, it wasn't. He worked until 7pm that night to get my tank pumped and working well enough for the holiday. Who works late voluntarily the night before a holiday? The crew then came out just a few days later and did the rehab that was needed on my drainfield. Every single person was professional and nice to work with...one guy was even really funny (have to laugh about this stuff sometimes). They left my yard in really good shape, even though they had to do a lot of digging, and seemed to really care about quality. After eight phone calls of unsuccessful attempts, I finally found a company that was able to come out right away. The technician Matt, arrived within 25 minutes. I deal with lots of contractors/ venders as the owner of 2 homes and many rentals. Calling " the septic guys" is one of my least favorite things to do. Often with good reason. These guys know what they are doing. I turned off the blower to my systems before they came out and stupidly left if off accidently. Ryan, explained why this would be a possible real problem. I then spoke to Jackie in their office and Jake the manager. All patiently explained to me why we might fail the test after I did made this error. The decision to reschedule or not was mine. Bottom line, I rescheduled the test, and we passed. But the real point is the absolutely positive attitude of all these knowledgeable people and their willingness to cheerfully explain the problem to me. Highly recommend. I really debated between one star and two. The only reason I would even think of giving two stars is because the guy who came out was super nice and told me I could replace my septic pump myself because having Vac-Tec do it would be super expensive. Also, they did give me lots of troubleshooting advice on the phone when I was explaining what was wrong. Short version: They charged me for time to do the work, plus the time he was sitting in his truck writing up the invoice, calling in to the office to get quotes, etc. Told me I needed a new pump and quoted me $2400 to do a full pump replacement/tank pump/float tree when I ended up just getting my old pump working. Long version: I called them to check on my system because the high-water alarm was going off and I couldn't figure out how to get the pump running again. I also couldn't find the pump chamber (I knew where the main tank was). They charge $195 for the first half hour and $195ish every hour after (this will be relevant later.) The guy shows up, does some stuff in his truck for a few minutes, then gets out to come check it out. I notice a timer running on his wrist watch. He locates the pump tank within 2 minutes of getting into my backyard. He goes into the control box and doesn't see anything wrong, so he decides to pull the pump (not as gross as it sounds). He tries to turn the impeller on the pump and it doesn't spin, so he tells me the pump is done. I believe him; after all It has been in the tank for 16 years. He tells me I can easily replace it myself, especially if I get the same model pump. I thank him, ask him a few questions while noticing that his watch hasn't hit the 30 minute mark. I do ask him if I could at least get a quote for the pump install just to see. I also ask him if I could possibly purchase the pump through them directly and do it myself. He said he wasn't sure about buying the pump directly through his company, but he would ask. Cool. So he goes back into his truck, does some paperwork, writes up an invoice, makes some phone calls to check on a quote/buying the pump, etc. When he is all done, he hands me the bill and its for $335ish. I was shocked because when he got into his truck it still wasn't 30 minutes according to his watch. I paid, but then I called the company to ask why the charge was so high when he literally spent less than 30 minutes in my backyard. She told me I was billed for over an hour of time. Wait what? She said "We have to pay our drivers for their time, which is tracked by GPS." Basically I am charged from the time they get there and shut off their truck to the time they leave. If I had known that my inquiring about a quote would cost that much then I would have said never mind. I called a couple other places and they were able to give me quotes over the phone! I have no problem paying someone for their time. This just felt like they were trying to milk it and get past the initial 30 minutes to make it worth their time. To their credit they didn't charge me a digging fee since I dug it up myself. On top of ALLLL of this, I did go order a new pump for $725, go through the hassle and mess of installing it, only to find out it was DOA. My dad was helping me and he suggested we hook up the old pump JUST TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. Well it was stalled, so he took a screw driver and messed with the impeller and got it to spin again! Are you kidding? The guy who came out didn't even try to clear it. He just tried to hand turn it and it didn't turn so he said it was done. Now it may fail in the near future, but it's running right now. I feel like he could have at least tried to see if he could get it going again. Oh, and they wanted $2400 to replace the pump/floats and pump the tank, even though it had been pumped like 3 months prior. Another company quoted me $1300, although that didn't include the floats and pumping the tank. They told me they had to do all that to warranty their work, which I get....but still. read more

Dont be afraid to get a second opinion. I always thought these type things happened to other people or there is always "more to the story".. nope. It happened to us. We called this company to do the septic report/inspection for the sale of our house (in Puyallup). The first time, they came out, pumped it and inspected it. Said we needed all new lids and a small repair for $1300 (plus the cost of the inspection and pump). No big deal. However, They didnt even ask us if we wanted them to file the county report (we wanted to do it ourselves), they just did it themselves AND CHARGED OUR CREDIT CARD without authorization. When the second person came out to do our "needed repairs"- he said we needed a bunch more repairs to the tank or he wasnt comfortable signing off with the county. The repairs he said were needed would be AN ADDITIONAL $5400. At this point, we called BS and figured they were all commission based pay and were up-selling us knowing we needed them to sign off with the county to sell our home. We called for a second opinion to a small company in Spanaway. The guy came out- told us we needed only 1 lid changed and said our tank was in perfect working order, no repairs needed. Total of $50. Even showed us where it was said to be "broken" by Vac Tec and it was not. Basically, these people are taking advantage of homeowners in order to make an extra buck. I would never use this company again and I will be telling everyone who will listen. read more

The team at Vac Tec is phenomenal and I would highly recommend their services. During a very stressful time they jumped to help us and make an potentially complicated repair as simple as possible. Jacky in the office is absolutely phenomenal, has a plethora of knowledge, is fast to respond, and is very kind even when I was stressed out and scatter brained. She helped make sure I fully understood the scope of the project and all that would be done to solve the issue we were dealing with. Ian was responsive and fast to get us a bid on a short time frame after a long day after I explained the urgency of our situation. Ian and Will were the team working on our sewer replacement and worked efficiently and effectively while creating as little damage as possible. Our yard was torn to pieces, and in the end they put it back exactly how it looked before they showed up. They communicated through the whole repair and ensured I knew what was going on every step of the way. They were pleasant to have around, and treated our property as if it were their own.
