UPDATE: I believe it is important to update my original review based on the company's response to my concerns. After I posted my review, Jeff, the manager, personally contacted me regarding my experience. He was kind, professional, and genuinely apologetic about how my service call was handled. Jeff explained that company policy requires customers to be informed of service charges before any work is performed and acknowledged that this did not happen in my case. He stated that he addressed the matter with the employee involved to help ensure it does not happen again. Most importantly, Jeff took immediate steps to make the situation right and offered me a full refund. I have since checked my credit card account and the refund is currently pending. While I was extremely disappointed and frustrated by my initial experience, I am equally impressed by the company's willingness to take responsibility, listen to a customer complaint, and take corrective action. Mistakes can happen in any business, but how a company responds to those mistakes speaks volumes about its character. I appreciate Jeff's professionalism and commitment to customer service. Based on the way this matter was resolved, I do not believe the company intends to take advantage of its customers, and I am grateful for their efforts to rectify the situation. Original: They were quick to respond to my request for service. However, the pricing was, in my opinion, unreasonable and bordering on unethical for less than five minutes of work. The technician used a high-powered snake to unclog a toilet and charged nearly $400 for the service. When I called, I was only informed of a $50 service call fee that would be applied toward any work performed. No one provided an estimate or discussed the potential cost of a simple toilet clog before the work was completed. The technician arrived, assessed the problem, fixed it within minutes, and then left briefly before returning with a tablet showing a bill for almost $400. I was genuinely shocked. Had I been informed of the cost beforehand, I would have had the opportunity to make an informed decision. I feel taken advantage of and believe the pricing was excessive for the service provided. Unfortunately, my lack of knowledge about plumbing costs came at a high price. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and sharing my experience so that other consumers can make informed decisions before agreeing to service. read more

A bid was given to repair a bathroom faucet valve. The bid was accepted at $222 plus tax. The repair could not be completed 'due to damage to the valve' and I was still charged $222 plus tax and left with the same problem I started with. Your reply was not the scenario as it was explained to me. Your Scheduler explained a $49 Diagnostic and Trip charge which would be applied to work being done. I don't mind paying the $49 for the diagnosis. But I do mind paying for a repair that was not done. This was not an 'old' fixture. This valve was two years old. The bid was presented to me as though the diagnosis had been made and the technician was 'sure' that the repair could be made at $222 plus tax. If the scenario had been explained to me that it would cost me $222 plus tax for a 'diagnosis' and that there was a possibility the repair could not be made and I would still have to pay $222 plus tax I WOULD NEVER HAVE AGREED TO THE WORK BEING DONE. Your company will be reported to The Better Business Bureau and a complaint will be followed up on. Your business practices are deceiving at best, and not acceptable. I was deceived by your Technician in a Bait and Switch transaction. I have also instigated a 'Small Claims Court' Claim in Pierce County Court for the difference between the $49 Diagnostic Quote I was told about when I scheduled the appointment, and the amount of $222 plus tax that I was actually charged. read more

Our water tank pressure/temp set off the T&p valve. We called to have them quote us and they quoted $668 to drain the water and replace the valve. That price is so ridiculous. My husband paid $16.98 at lowes for the part, took him 5 min to replace. They claim the quote includes them to diagnose the reason it happened but no where in my quote did it mention anything about this. Also just to be clear, the valve opens because the pressure or temperature is too high. No reason to pay $600 for them to tell me that. read more

I was notified by my tenant that the water heater was leaking. That was on a weeknight, after 5:00 PM. I called at least eight plumbing companies that advertise as having 24-hour service. No one answered. A few got back to me the next day. EXCEPT for Eric, from Spartan Plumbing. He personally answered the phone and told he that he could be there in 33 minutes. That was after 6:00 PM. Eric determined that I needed a new hot water heater, so he contacted Spartan's hot water tank supplier, who agreed to OPEN their warehouse for Eric to pick one up that NIGHT (after hours). Nice arrangement! I've never heard of such a thing. With the leak, I had drywall damage. He contacted a restoration company FOR me, right there on the spot, who called me right away. The restoration referral agent was here the next day. Erice connected me to solutions which completely solved my bigger problem after his job was done. He finished about 11:00 PM. Had a "home repair" fail. Called several places in panic at 6 pm on a Saturday. The common names that always say they can be there in an emergency Roto Rooter, Larson, and a few lesser known "emergencies available" plumbers, all of them the earliest would be 36 hours. Then, I got hold of Spartan Plumbing, described the situation, and they told me that they would have a tech call me. Within 5 minutes, I had an appointment for within the hour. Christian T. arrived promptly at the lower end of the appointment block, was extremely polite and knowledgeable, and had the problem fixed within a half hour, at an incredibly reasonable rate. I had Spartan out to help with a remodel. They did a great job and were upfront and honest about what the job would require. I would recommend Spartan to anyone looking for a honest and fair plumber. Spartan's bid was not the cheapest option but it was far from the most expensive bids I got. In my experience the cheapest option is usually not the best option and you end up paying more later. With Spartan I felt good knowing they stand behind their work and if their was a problem later they would be there. Spartan used to be my go to provider. Until the last service on June 2022. I called them out for a clogged sewer line. They scoped the line and informed me that roots were in the pipe. They recommended jetting to clear the line. Sounds good, since my previous service calls were great. I approved the work. They did their jet magic and everything was flowing. Roots gone they said. They even sent a video of the work. Yay. A week later we had another sewer backup issue. Called them up, but they weren't able to come out until the following week. Had to call another provider (let's call them Provider B) that could look into it sooner. Provider B ran a scope and informed me that roots were in the line! What! Everything was backed up and it had to be fixed. I approved another jetting by Provider B. I watched them clear the line of 3-4 additional root bundles that penetrated the sewer line. All was clear and they even ran the camera from the house to the town's main sewer line to show me it was clear and flowing. Provider B saves the day! (Of course I'm out $$$ due to the additional service call to Provider B!) I reached out to Spartan via email and phone to inform them that I had to call Provider B to fix their (Spartan's) work. They did not respond to my email and calls. And I'm out more $$$. That's why I revoke my 5 star recommendation and drop it down to 2 stars for Spartan. Figured I'd share my experience. I knew I had to purchase a new garbage disposal so when they told me it is needed there is no surprise there. Called yesterday and talked to rep right away. I asked a lot of thorough questions with dispatch rep. Made an emphasis on wanting to know exactly how the initial consultation inspection worked. Specifically asking if they come prepared to do the job and lift the create slab where the leak is suspected to be coming from. The initial service fee is 50$. I know that's not a lot of money to many but when you know you're gonna be throwing thousands in to do a project and you have to have multiple people give you a quote... fees add up. Anyway, we asked a lot of specific questions before having them send someone out because we didn't want them to arrive and point out the obvious. Today a man came to inspect and although he was very friendly he did exactly what we were trying to avoid. He said we have someone come out and detect exactly where the leak is coming from before we can repair the line. This is extremely frustrating after being very specific with the phone rep and trying to avoid a pointless appointment and fee. I will not bad about their plumbers, but when their plumbers can't give you an hourly rate because they are not allowed to, I know I'm being fleeced. Excellent plumbing work. Horrible new pricing structure for simple plumbing needs. We've used Spartan services for over 30 years back (Marv was there). Always fair pricing, great work, etc. Today we had Spartan arrive to have a toilet reset as my elderly mom who just had her floors replaced. Newer toilet, simple job and the quote/bill was over 340.00 with tax! Was there for 20 mins (900.00 hr?) The plumber gave a 5% discount but honestly we felt taken advantage of. We understand "per job pricing" but this is out of hand. We'll sadly have to find a different plumbing company for simple plumbing work going forward. read more

Our home was built is the 60s and the cast iron drain line was leaking in our crawl space. I did what most do; get 3 bids and go with your gut. Spartan wasn't the least expensive but was by far the most experienced and thorough. We decided to replace the entire drain line, which is time consuming and costly. Enrique and Jeff did a wonderful job and were a pleasure to work with. I didn't give 5 stars only because the we had a restoration company come in and clean up and put down new vapor barrier before the plumbing work. Now the restoration team needs to come back after they finished which is confusing me. Why start the restoration process when there is more clean up? My suggestion to anyone looking for plumbing work at this magnitude -do your research with local companies that are reputable and if possible, don't make your decision on price -if physically able to, climb down into the crawl space with the consultants and get a 1st hand view of what the problem is. Sounds like 98% of clients don't bother seeing the issues for themselves and have them explained through pictures and video -if you have restoration services needed (sewage clean up, soil removal, vapor barrier removal and replacement) maybe insist on having it done after the plumbing or at least a partial clean up. This is tough work to do and you need to have it done correctly. Enrique and Jeff kept me informed throughout the entire repair. As a homeowner, I appreciate the professionalism. We contacted Spartan to connect a pressure relief value to the hot water heater. I wasnt present and my friend was there, so she paid him not knowing exact what to look for. I came by later that night to inspect the work. The pipe stuck out from the exterior wall 8 inches, then went down. I contacted Spartan to fix the error. At the time, the said, ya, that isnt right and sent Todd back out to fix it. When he came back out to fix it (which took about 10 minutes if that) he tried to charge my another $100. When i told he i wasnt going to pay for his error, he began to swear at me. I told him to leave and take me to court. Not only did he trespass back on my property after I left, he purposely tried to burn the wood when he was sweeting the pipe to put it back the way it was. He put a coupling back on it to extend it out so it actually messed it up worse. I would never recommend Sparatan. There response is completely inaccurate. Todd even admited that he had to pull the pipe in to sweet the coupling off so he knew he could pull it in or out. Sloppy work. I told the tech to leave and he still went back and tresspassed on the property. Another business lying to save face instead of doing the right thing. About an hour later I called the person back and ask that they bring the toilet and do the repairs. We were told that someone will call and let us know what time they would out on the next day.
