The most local place to my home. Gave it several tries in late 2014 and early 2015. The staff was pleasant but the food was blah and with the fish we had to ask for lemon as well as tartar.. When asked if the bar could make a specific drink was told yes... It in No way resembled the drink ordered. read more

Bottom line, I think perhaps the kitchen cooks need better training because it's a hit and a miss and in the restaurant business consistency, outstanding food and atmosphere are crucial, good service is a great bonus. At the Vacationaire they are absolutely indeed trying. I suggest to not complain but rather praise something you have enjoyed and offer a kind suggestion of what you want to see improved. Not only was the owner fabulous ...he took our table and waited on us himself. They listen to our suggestions, The view is absolutely spectacular. If you have family visiting and want to give them the nostaglia of a true northwoods supper club this is the restaurant and sweet resort for you. I recommend Sunday Brunch. REAL scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, an huge supply of unlimited juices in cute little cans on ice just grab what you want. I cant help but have one grapefruit, orange, pineapple, cranberry and apple...because I CAN! that's right, your beverage is included, including milk and some the absolute best coffee I have found in 3 counties, good and strong and damn if it doesn't go perfect with the pine Trees and the gorgeous lake view. You can see the lake from over sized booths that would easily sit 6 or take a booth in the bar area with the same breath taking view. Or step out onto the deck and breath it all in. OUTSTANDING atmosphere with cozy couches and big stone fireplace, but oh that view, I can't remember seeing houses across the lake, it feels very secluded. Its UNDER $11.00, bottomless beverage included. They have multi toasters and a wide variety of jellies for your toast and a pleasant variety of muffins which is always a kid pleaser. I think I have had better biscuits and gravy at Emmaville because it is a sausage based gravy and has a great flavor with the right amount of consistency. The vacationaire needs to improve their gravy as it is very bland sawmill gravy that taste like a mix you might find a bread thrift store or something for a buck. Please train the cooks, step up the game, the bacon is always under done...always. I notice a lot of piles of fat portions ripped off and sitting on the sides of plates. cut cost on bacon hello ??...bacon should be fried crisp, people always finish bacon when it is cooked properly. Bring you Sunday cooks in an hour earlier on the schedule so they can have the correct amount of time to not rush and cook bacon properly, oven cooked bacon is easy if they tray it and wrap it as prep and then they hit the ovens first thing. The lunch menu is fair in price in comparison to whats in Park Rapids. T he dinner menu doesn't appear to be outrageous, 11 to 20 bucks an entree, My only gripe is there is no crab legs. ???hello "vacationer" a vacation should always include crab or lobster or both. steak n shrimp is a very boring surf n turf. Here's the deal, allow more time to get Sunday brunch consistently perfect, improve bacon, under cooked browned only on one side sausage (its like a kids doing the cooking or something on a Sunday because its as if they either rent allowed proper brunch cooking prep time or they just don't care. improve the lack of flavor to the gravy, Add a much better variety to your dinner and lunch menu. It's very stale and outdated in variety and put a basket of free nibbling on the table upon arrival to keep people satisfied while waiting on food, it does take a little too long and isn't always hot but...its good. I'm saying you have the chance to be spectacular and instead, other than a great view, your just like everything else in Park Rapids..be better than that. Make yourself worth the drive. Become the best kept secret in the county. they have my vote they just need to stop being satisfied with what they are as a restaurant and step it and BYPASS all the rest ;-) they have my business and i hope they read this and value my business to improve themselves before the summers done. PS...Also good marketing isn't pictures of a big empty restaurant, It looks dead, Bring fun and good food to the eyes. Humans are visual creatures, We like stimulation. If we google brunch and your empty restaurant photos with zero people enjoying themselves and absolutely no pictures..CLOSE UPS of your food fair for all meals...a menu with photo's and prices would be an intelligent choice to out beat competition. Surely someone is computer savoy there and can build you a much better website presentation, if not for pitty sake hire a good wed designer firm. There is a good one in Hackensack, or there was..point is we want to see what each entree is going to look like and the price...oh and specials. There should be a different special every single day for each meal...people are drawn to specials and they will repeat business weekly in many instances. We live a mile away from here and thought we would try it due to the new ownership. We ordered the surf and turf special, which was a sirloin steak, a pound of crab, vegetables, and mashed potatoes to serve 2 for $40. We waited 45 min for our food and it was cold. We only got a HALF a pound of crab. And our vegetables were very mushy. Obviously cooked from frozen. Our sever never came back so I found the owner myself to complain to. He acted clueless and defensive. then said he would discount our bill later. He only gave us $4 off. He is clearly out for the money only. Every other table around us was complaining too. Never go here. I will make sure to tell everyone in the area not to go here. You should be trying to impress people on valentines when you have a full dining room. Instead you pissed a lot of people off and did not handle the complaints well. Enjoy your dining room staying empty like it usually is. read more
