I used to come here to study often and now I am bringing my toddler here to play. I love the remodel it's perfect for kids to enjoy time at the library. My toddler was running around the kid section and being a little loud and no one said anything they just allowed us to play and enjoy the space. They also have coloring tables for kids, an assortment of books and computers with kids learning games. There's a nice outdoor area too. We will be coming more often read more

This review is for FRIENDS OF VACAVILLE LIBRARY (FOVL) operating the WORDS OF WONDER (WOW) BOOKSTORE located inside this Vacaville Cultural Center Library. The WOW bookstore is open several days per week. It sells donated, used books, CDs, etc., and it is staffed by volunteers. I signed up to volunteer, and was really excited to learn more about donating time to the Book Store and its Board of Directors, as discussed with Volunteer Coordinator Michelle. However my experience when attending the group orientation onsite was met with prejudice and discrimination by Director Cathy. When I arrived for orientation the library staff at the Information Desk directed me to the bookstore located inside and to the right. However the bookstore door was locked. I could see the lights were on and someone was inside so I tapped lightly on the door. Cathy unlocked the door slightly, and looked at me sternly. We were face to face - less than 1 foot apart. I introduced myself, advised I was referred by Michelle, and was there for Volunteer Orientation. Another new volunteer walked up behind me, and said she "was here for the same thing." This volunteer remained about 2 feet behind me. Cathy smiled at her, opened the door wider, reached around and behind me, and shook the other volunteer's hand. Then while looking solely at the other volunteer Cathy told us where to find Michelle and the others (at a table 100 feet away). It was obvious Cathy didn't want to acknowledge, touch or speak with me. The other volunteer was not a woman of color. I am. And since I was clean, well groomed, and well dressed, I can only assume Cathy's indifference and lack of respect was because of a prejudice against women of color. At the very least she didn't feel I deserved the same basic courtesies she extended to the new volunteer standing behind me. Her actions said she didn't value me or my contributions. Shocked by Cathy's overt act of racism I managed to move towards and even participate in the orientation. Alhough I couldn't stop thinking about the way I had been treated. I did tour the bookstore briefly after the group session, at Michelle's urgence. She was excited that I had experience working on and with Boards, and wanted me to meet Cathy. I try to look for the good in people so I decided to give Cathy another chance. However after Michelle introduced us Cathy still didn't give me the greeting she had given my counterpart earlier. No hand shake, no greeting, no smile - just demanded, "tell me (her) about your work history" - with a snarl and superior demeanor. I stopped her interrogation-type inquiry and extended my hand stating I would like to "formally introduce myself." She shook it reluctantly. Still no pleasantries. There was no mistaking that she was speaking with me because Michelle told her someone was interested in volunteering in the bookstore and on the Board of Directors but when she saw it was me she couldn't hide her prejudice, again. I left there knowing I could not volunteer my time or services to an organization whose director looked down upon people and treated them differently because of the color of their skin. I provided feedback to Michelle, and reminded her we are a diverse nation, and expertise and contributions come in all colors. And told her that based on my experience I could not and would not be donating my time or services to FOVL WOW. As long as the Cathy's are in charge here African American or others of color won't be treated with the same dignity and respect. So that's a big no for me. read more

The Vacaville Cultural Center Library finally re-opened last week after being closed for about 1 year for remodeling. I decided to swing by to take a look. Besides the remodel of the interior/exterior, they put up solar panel covered parking. The interior definitely looks freshened up with new furniture and redesigned. They are still working on minor decorating and putting books on the shelves, but is fully functioning. There are computer stations and children's area. Restrooms are clean and remodeled. I am glad they finally re-opened because I like coming here over the Town Square Library as it is slightly closer to my house and there is much more parking here as well as generally more spacious library. read more

(I'm only addressing our newly refurbished library located within the Vacaville Cultural Center on Ulatis Drive.) Vacaville just spent $2.6M I believe it is and it took over a year to upgrade the library here. It is just around the corner from me and I have dearly loved it for nearly 20 years. Once warm and inviting with a charming tree sculpture in the children's area it now seems rather unaesthetic and the materials came across as cheap-looking to me. I thought to myself that I could've done a better job with $680,000 on a Home Depot credit card! I mean for God's sake ~ $2.6.M!? Gimme a break. They could not even power wash the filthy bench area out front located as the last thing you see before you go through the new front doors? That wonderful wood tree sculpture that was always so wonderful to gaze at every time I ever went in there should at least be put in the large computer area or SOMEPLACE within the new library (they are apparently trying to "rehome it" elsewhere in town) So please~ power wash that entire cement area out front! And do whatever you can to warm it up. I will miss the comfy chairs near the entrance where people used to sit and read for hours ~ I don't recall seeing any place to do that anymore but admittedly I took a quickie tour. as there just wasn't much to see of interest. It just seemed to be so sterile! You can go outside where they have some type of patio area out back. But it's not the same that's for sure. I'm also concerned that when I double-checked my facts on the price I saw that it was actually over $24M! Heart attack time! When I first heard of $2.6M and then took the tour I thought we're looking at a lot of corruption here; there had to be a ton of kickbacks somewhere ~something is off. It simply doesn't look like a $2.6 mil upgrade! And if it's $24M then somebody needs to open up an investigation by midnight tonight! Everybody go see for yourselves. Is it just me? Am I off? I stopped by to the for the first time in years. I came to pick up a book I have on hold. After a few minutes, I realized I was at the wrong library. That's why I couldn't find my book....Oops lol. I ended up taking a quick tour and made mental note of events and services available looking at the bulletin board. The bathrooms were clean. One employee I came across greeted me. It's a nice sized library. Pretty old looking outside, with a modern twist inside. :) read more

Selections: Great, spacious library with a wide variety of books and movies. They have a large DVD selection and also many different books in so many categories for children and adults. Children's area: They have a cute children's area with a little tree house-like structure inside. Location: Beautiful location by the cultural center, where I had concerts when I was in band. Convenient location by the community center, and it's a block away from Target and other shopping areas and also near the freeway. Nice little grassy area in the back, where I sometimes let my dog play, but there seem to be some homeless people who live there. Study rooms and meeting rooms: yes, they have them, and they're great for remote work when it's too distracting to work at home or in a cafe. Restrooms: many different stalls and very clean. Downside: the computers and internet are often slow, but it's not as bad as some other libraries that are even slower. read more

My family has really been enjoying the library during the last many months of Covid. They have a great system to make appointments for ordering and picking up books. But even better, they have library hours to go in and find books. My kids love it, they have the whole library to almost themselves for almost an hour. Keep up the good work. read more

We go here often. Borrowing books online is a breeze, facility is cool and clean, staff is friendly.

I love this library. I love how the library systems have updated so much since I last really used a library. It's awesome how the Solano-Napa area pretty much linked up in order to create a larger catalogue. I've been using the online system mainly since I signed up for a card and it really is convenient if you're a busy person and don't have the time to peruse through the books for something to read. The hold section is very organized, haven't had any issues trying to find my books that are ready for pick up. There are self check out machines at two locations; one close to the children's area and the other close to the entrance. Plenty of computers, wifi, kids area that my little ones love going to, large magazine section, dvds, and you guess it, books. The staff here is extremely helpful and easy to talk to, willing to ask any question you may have. read more

The library is great! It is huge and has private rooms to study. However the people that work there aren't the friendliest. If you're coming to study be ready to have the librarians be rude to you and unwelcoming. I had the worst experience their last night. There are also homeless people that walk around in the library and ask for rides. read more

Pretty big library. I'm always able to get a computer with out waiting. They also have free wifi if you bring your own laptop. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It's pretty quiet even when they are busy. I let my son come alone sometimes after school and I feel he's safe here. They also have great hours. read more

Moved to Fairfield from Elk Grove (Sac) and love this library. My son (2 years old) was mesmerized by the children's area. They have a lot of books and a big tree in the middle. They have a lot of seating. We plan to come by when they have toddler time. Have yet to look at the adult section, but the library is a pretty big size and they have self check out!!! read more

The first couple times I tried searching for an item I thought maybe it was the amount of people on the computers but over the last year that I've been coming to the Vacaville Library, anytime I need to search for an item on their computers, it takes FOREVER just for a damn page to load!!! read more

If I can yelp about the Vacaville Library at the new Town Square, I guess I can yelp the main branch at Ulatis. There are a lot of fond memories I have here. From the cram sessions for my AP Calc class back in High School, to working as a Volunteer during the summer with the Youth Literacy Programs and book drives, I've been coming here for awhile. Of course, for me, the best library is still the original one next to the City Hall on Merchant that closed down years ago, but it's the one where I read numerous of books to learn English when I first came to the States. Anyways, this library is noticeably larger than the one at Town Square. With more seats and obviously more books, tapes, etc. The people here are friendly and filled with some of the familiar faces I've seen years ago. Next to the library is the Cultural Center where my High School band and I performed many concerts and CMEA Music festivals at. Lots of nostalgia memories when I come by here to use the slow WiFi internet. Hey, to escape the 110+ degree heat this week, this is not a bad place to be. read more

I really like this library. Very clean and nice selection. For me what makes or breaks a library is the staff. They get paid to assist patrons and help do research, not just check in and out books. The employees here have always been helpful for both my research and my childrens. read more

I used to come here everyday as a kid and check out a boat load of books and movies, but I didn't truly appreciate this place until I took an Anatomy course. They have a set of bones here you can check out and use which is SO helpful. Plus there's free wifi! read more

I usually visit during the evenings and you'll always see ppl studying, getting tutored, patrons reading, browsing the collection, gathering in the meeting room, etc. The library is well organized and the librarians are always helpful and knowledgeable. read more

A really great place to study. Very quite and friendly staff if you need help finding something. There tends to be a lot of homeless but they just keep to themselves and aren't crazy. They will come in and take a nap while renting the library computer but they don't cause a scene and you really don't notice them. read more
