From the moment I walked in, the staff was warm, professional, and made me feel completely at ease. Dr. Vafaie took the time to really listen to my concerns, explain my treatment options in detail, and answer all of my questions without rushing me - she even was gracious enough to complete my keloid excision at the end of her work day, and was very gentle. I came in for treatment related to scarring and skin texture, and the level of care and precision was outstanding. Everything was explained clearly - from the procedure itself to aftercare - so I felt confident and well-prepared. I can already see a noticeable improvement in my skin.l, and my keloid is already flattened out nicely as I'm on the road to recovery. What stood out the most was how attentive and thorough the entire team was. I've never been to a dermatologist before so I wasn't too sure what to expect. For about a year now, I've had this on going issue with my nose. I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Vafaie to see if we can solve my issue. Upon arrival the clinical staff were very friendly and assisted me very quickly. The office is warm and welcoming as well as the ambiance in the clinic was clean and organized. Dr. Vafaie did an amazing job with making sure I was comfortable during my visit (due to having to numb and cauterizing my skin). She answered my questions professionally & made my visit easy! I've had a 18 year old angioma on my face that I've been wanting to get rid of for years, and I'm so glad I found this office and Dr. Vafaie. When I didn't have insurance, I've made the mistake of going to med spas in the past that gave me zero results; often telling me I had to pay $5000+ to have this spot removed or see a difference. Now that I do have insurance, and one that this office accepts for copays at that, I scheduled my very first dermatologist appointment and wow, the difference is amazing. Dr. Vafaie was quick but very efficient. She introduced herself, took a look at the spot, let me know that I was going to be considered a cosmetic procedure and her MAs shared her proposed plan to me. I asked her about my past laser consultations and it was clear based on the "coffee grind results" past offices stated that I'd see -- that those other offices were trying to sell me the wrong laser for what I needed. She then zapped my face and although this is just the first step of the treatment, I already see such a huge difference!! And for a fraction of the cost of previous quotes I've received. I'm looking forward to continuing my treatment with her. I think a lot of dermatologist get a bad rep because a majority of people simply dont understand how medical billing works (some procedures are considered medical (aka effecting your health) and others are simply cosmetic (ie not liking a harmless spot on your face). read more

"I don't know" Why is this office branded $120 retinoic acid better than a generic one? "The formula" ... okay, what's the difference between the formula? "I don't know" After doing my investigation on the business, it makes sense why she doesn't know anything... it's all about $$$ here. 2. They just want to sell you products - I got lied to straight up about how "insurance doesn't cover this dosage" and "no other generic product" could fix my skin issues. I called my insurance and they said they covered generic brands with the same dosage NO PROBLEM. I couldn't get reimbursed because the doctors product does not have a national drug code. The office also wouldn't refund me even though I said they lied to me and told me their product was my only option. 3. I saw the doctor for like 2 minutes and she recommends Botox right away. She's also quite rude to her medical technicians. I felt very bad for the sweet girl who actually talked to me for most of my concerns. You can tell she was very bright but also extremely stressed and scared of the doctor. Wish I would've investigated this sketchy behavior earlier. I'm sure Dr.Vafaie is a great cosmetic dermatologist but I would absolutely not recommend her services for any type of medical concern. Her office consistently double-bills me and my insurance and charges ridiculously for common procedures and it's clear she is only concerned with making money off her patients. It has gotten to the point where I will not pay anything they ask me to when I am in the office because I know another bill with the exact same amount and date of service will show up in my email even though I have already paid it in person. The billing office is ridiculously incompetent and has lied to me multiple times about charging me twice, and only relents when I pursue fraud charges through my credit card company. In terms of actual skincare, Dr. Vafaie continuously tried to push me towards cosmetic procedures that would have costed me thousands but were not meant to treat my condition. These procedures do not have any medical proof of efficacy and when I asked for patient testimonials or before/after images, they had very few to show even though she has supposedly performed this procedure on "hundreds" of other patients with my condition. She also sold me products that are much cheaper elsewhere and claims there are not generic versions of the treatments used. I have since moved to a much better derm at UCLA medical and suggest others to do the same if they need their medical skin concerns addressed. My dermatologist at UCLA has confirmed the procedures Dr. Vafaie pushed me towards would have only helped minimally. That being said, her medical assistants have always been extremely courteous and professional and her office is very clean which is why I'm giving 2 stars. It's a shame she is so rude and disrespectful to her assistants because I really appreciated them. I'm also extremely unsurprised she fakes her reviews haha. read more

My son developed acne much later in his early 20s. He always had perfect skin. Every other dermatologist kept doing facials and giving him topical medication. Nothing worked. In fact, it got worse. We finally found Dr. Vafaie. The first 10 seconds after looking at his skin, she put him on medication. Not topical. And the acne disappeared within days. Then she took care of the scarring. She started with peels then laser. His face is back to normal and perfect. Out of curiosity I asked Dr. Vafaie if she recommended fillers or botox for me as I have some "aging" traits ;-) She said no, try retinol and GAVE me a sample. It worked. Took 10 years off in a few weeks. No needles. So I bought more. It's the fountain of youth. She doesn't try to sell you extra treatments. Her goal is to get your skin better and move on. read more

In my experience, she is a decent enough doctor- as in, what she has prescribed me has improved my symptoms for things like tinea versicolor & psoriasis. However, she has an exceedingly bad bedside manner every time I've seen her, and for that reason I try to avoid coming in unless absolutely necessary. For the three to five minutes she spends with you, she will be condescending and rude. Once a couple of years ago she neglected to send in both of my prescriptions. During my follow up, I told her I never received one of the products she was discussing and she started chastising me like a child. She refused to consider that she might have made a mistake and instead acted like I was deliberately not using what she had suggested. I came in today and hoped that perhaps her disposition had changed, but unfortunately it hasn't. It was clear that she hadn't read my chart and I was once again chastised- this time for getting something treated at an urgent care. She also has her own line of unnecessary products that she always tries to sell, which makes the place feel more like a brick and mortar pyramid scheme than a doctor's office. The office staff and nurses are much more attentive and thorough than Dr. Vafaie. I'm sure she is very competent and knowledgeable in her field, but I would rather go somewhere I feel respected. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, only for the fact that this woman and her practice are actively in the business of ripping people off. I came in for a basic acne issue, which is now resolved (no thanks to Dr. Vafaie). Regardless of if she is covered by your insurance, expect to pay a lot. What you get for your money is extremely questionable. You can expect to wait and wait for your appointment, only to get seen for about 5 minutes, told all the things you're doing horribly wrong in your skin-care routine, and instead reassured that her specially formulated products can save the day. The whole time she will be ordering around her small army of unpaid interns--who seem to be living under constant fear of being yelled at or castigated by her. She charges north of $100 for her retinoid, and even more absurd amounts for the other types of treatments she offers. All of these are out-of-pocket expenses if you wish to partake. Unfortunately, my skin only got worse upon using one of her products, and I came back for a follow-up. If you find yourself in this position, you can expect the same rushed appointment process, and for her to assure you that things will get worse before they get better, and that if you really want to speed the process up you can shell out another few hundred for more of her products or services. I'm unsurprised to hear that Dr. Vafaie's practice has now been exposed for faking positive reviews to boost their image and cover up the fact that the service they offer is poor in quality and exploitative in price. The crazy number of 5-star reviews is what drew me to her practice in the first place. I was also unsurprised to find out that many of the people who have worked under her are now speaking out about a toxic workplace environment. I would be interested to see how many of her employees actually receive compensation for the emotional abuse they undergo. read more

I've been to many dermatologists over the years. I've even seen Kim Kardashian's before he was Kim's, so I feel pretty confident in saying Dr. Vafaie is the best! She's passionate, knowledgeable and a perfectionist.  I originally saw her for an injury that required stitches. The resulting scar was hideous. Dr. Vafaie told me to stop using Neosporin as most people are allergic to neomycin. Who knew?!  Instead she recommended Stratamed. Game Changer! I immediately threw out all tubes of Neosporin. From the efficiency of her office and the warmth and expertise of both dr. and staff I knew she was a dr. who would not disappoint. Flash forward to my decision to have Dr. Vafaie remove visible veins on my legs. After only two treatments my legs look better than they did in my early 20s!  I have one final treatment scheduled to ensure these ugly veins are gone for good and because it's Dr. Janet Vafaie, to obtain airbrushed perfection. If you are considering a procedure to improve your appearance go to Dr. Vafaie. She has the skill and meticulous attention to detail needed to achieve an amazing result. The Doctor and staff at this office are wonderful! As someone who is having difficulty with middle age and just now realizing the importance of good skincare, I made an appointment after a friend highly recommended Dr Vafaie. She listened to all my concerns and patiently explained the options I have. I had been considering having what I thought was an old filler nodule dissolved under my eye and had visited someone who had recommended getting it dissolved, however I had cold feet. Thank goodness I met with Dr Vafaie as this nodule was actually a cholesterol deposit, which is not something you dissolve. She was able to take care of it easily and it healed quickly. She also performed an amazing facial peel before my wedding which made my thin wrinkles disappear and enhanced my complexion taking years off! They say brides 'glow' on their wedding day but it certainly doesn't hurt having a little help! I hope I'm not short-changing Dr. Vafaie with three stars... you decide: I was about 20 minutes early, got seen about 20 minutes late... in the big picture of doctors' waiting rooms, that's not bad at all. And, as others say, the assistants and office staff are all super nice. And I have to say, Dr. Vafaie is quite confident... and they don't let you forget that she is "board-certified". And when she says "that is not cancerous and we do not need a biopsy", I genuinely believe her. I'm guessing she definitely knows her shit and telling you the truth. But, as quite a few others have said, she springs into the office, talks very quickly at you, expects you to understand and retain everything quickly and then departs as fast as she arrived. It's not that she has a bad bedside manner... there is no time to digest what her bedside manner is. Slightly brusque or maybe just whirlwind. (But smart!) And, while she is quite clear on the fact that none of the cosmetic options available to you are necessary (or covered by insurance), you are left behind with an assistant who gives you information. I left there not sure if I was being pitched cosmetic procedures or just being informed of my options. ("Well, we can give you 20% off the laser treatment if you buy today" does sound a little pitchy.) This is the part of the whole dermatological world that I don't like... you're not sure where medicine stops and kim kardashian starts. In one room you might be getting an effective topical creme for psoriasis and in the next room someone with a selection of anti-aging serums and "essential oils" is waving a sage smudge stick over you. (OK, that might not be the exact case here but there was, in fact, three scented candles in my room. Why are there scented candles in a doctor's office??) By the way, the scented candles had labels on them that said they were custom-made for Doctor Janet Vafaie. Because that's the deal with all of these places that are selling you non-essential cosmetic solutions to problems you didn't know you had... the people that are likely to want cosmetic "solutions" are into how things appear... and if it looks like there is line of cosmetic serums and creams and holy water that were made specifically by the doctor whose office you are in, it feels like you are getting close to the actual SOURCE of the fountain of youth and that feels more authentic and likely to work miracles on your normally-aging body. You can actually visualize the shaman, I mean doctor, working late into the night side-by-side with scientists to create the potions that no one else can provide to you. Wow. Sorry about the rant. Let me backtrack... I picked Dr. Vafaie's office because I detected much less of that kind of stuff going on and you really are not hit over the head with it there... just reminded of it. read more
