This is a beautiful park, we have stayed there before. Unfortunately we are not happy with our recent experience of their service. Our "family" has grown to three dogs. Their total body weight is not over 70 lbs. Reading the rules we noticed a two dog minimum so we called and asked if there were exceptions, extra fees, etc to allow all three. We were first told yes, then no, then call back and talk to manager. We called several times and the manager was never available, we feel we were being jerked around. What a shame what has happened here. Vail lake used to be one of the best bass fisheries in the state. The water district came in took out the historic waterslides and the lake is now just a pond that you can't access. All of those fish that were in there for decades ...huge bass, catfish, and crappie are all but dead due to the lake being only about 20% full. Need to change it to Vail Pond campground The campground itself hasn't been upgraded in 30 some odd years it seems. read more

This is a KOA. It is really large. We got a spot in lower Arroyo. Very far from registration, our spot was at end of loop. Generous size spots, this one with water/sewer. Nice facilities except for showers. These were dirty...and NO Place to put your towel, clothes etc. No hook...nada. read more

I would give it 0 stars if I could. We were treated terribly by the pool staff. After calling up two different managers I'm shocked by how the whole event was handled. They tried to kick us out over my husbands thin blue line hat. This establishment obviously doesn't support law enforcement. read more

So, I'm not rating a stay at this resort although it sounds pretty fun and they seem to have a lot of events here, but instead, only a short visit I had here today. We were driving along the highway and were enchanted by the metal sculptures and we decided to stop for pictures. As we were, we noticed that there were even more sculptures down in the RV Park, so we pulled in. We stopped at the guard house and asked if the public can come in to see the sculptures. He was super nice and gave us a visitor pass and directions and a flyer about next week's open house for the artist, Ricardo Breceda. We followed the directions, turning right at the dinosaur and drove into an outdoor gallery of wonder. Ricardo Breceda makes AMAZING and GIANT metal sculptures, from dinosaurs to horses and gold miners to rhinos. They are so awesome. He also has a line of small sculptures of metal and rock. They truly are very cool and if you're in the area, I recommend you check it out. If you see this review before June 29, 2013, you should try to go by for the open house that weekend. His pieces are also for sale. Some smaller wall pieces were priced between $30-$50, but I have no clue what he charges for those big guys!!! We also strolled over to the administration building to use the restroom. I found the grounds to be really inviting and I love all the big trees. If I had an RV, I could see checking it out further. This is my 3rd year visiting this resort for the annual So Cal Tough Mudder (I did not compete, but was working for a vendor/sponsor). The grounds are beautiful. Nestled in the middle of the mountains with a large lake and rolling hills. There is a campground onsite and every year I work this event, I just have the urge to book a camping trip. I think this place would be a great little weekend getaway and it's super close to all the wineries in Temecula as well. read more

This is the best RV campground in the Temecula/Murietta/Riverside area, period. I have been going there for 15 years, through different owners and management teams. HUGE amount of sites, about half of which are shaded. Pools and bathrooms are clean and well maintained. They have a village area with a store and a cute bar. Sometimes the deli is open, karaoke on weekends, used to have live music but haven't seen any for the last 2 years. Putt Putt golf must have been built in the 50s and always needs repair but most kids don't care. Basketball and pickleball courts, great hiking. Security was so so 10 years ago but now is excellent. No more riff raff, hard partiers or gang bangers like 15 years ago. One thing I recently discovered is there are 4 new beautiful wineries 15 minutes away. Not 15 miles, literally 15 minute drive from campsite to winery. I am going to arrange a wine weekend with my friends in September. Some slight negatives that don't personally bother me. Unless it is a special event, no tent-only camping. You can have a tent along with your camper however. They used to have the waterslides and horse stable working, but they are no longer running. Also used to allow UTVs and Razors, but that attracted a loud crowd with stereos blasting. That same crowd would tear up the extensive trails causing accidents and injuries. No longer allowed. Now only hikers, mountain bikers and occasional horses now allowed on the trails. Vail Lake reservoir itself is not actually part of the campground. In 2016 the water level was dramatically down that the lake was unusable. Haven't been there this year, since I don't fish and its a non contact lake anyway. But I heard the water level is up again. The campground is downright quiet weekdays. As in maybe 7-15 campers in the whole park. I like to take my dog for 7am walks and we have been stalked by coyotes several times, a bit unnerving but this is the wilderness. In closing this is a very family friendly nice RV campground an it blows away all the other fly infested junky RV parks in the area. Try it! read more

My Family and I usually stay at Lake Skinner, but decided to drive to Vail Lake today, Which is Memorial Day, just to check out the campsite. When we pulled up we were greeted by an older lady who told us that it was an "exit only" day and that we couldn't drive through the park to check it out. When we asked asked what activities, amenities, ect where available, we were told that she could only give us a map and that she was busy with checking people out and that we needed to turn around and leave. When we asked for her name, she shut the door and said goodbye, leave, turn around. She was the RUDEST lady. To have an employee that RUDE and putout with a potential new comer at the front desk, with HORRIBLE customer service, as the first person that greets you, was enough REASON for my family to NEVER go back. I forgot to mention that we did ask about the fishing, and she said, in the most condescending way, " you can't fish here, and it's been that way since 2016". read more

Vail Lake needs to change their names to Vail Campground, then you wouldn't be disappointed. The Camp ground offers 3 pools, nice clubhouse area where they have live band, ice cream shop, pizza shop, mini-golf course and bar. There are plenty of public restrooms with showers. The pools are all next to each other, which is wonderful because there's plenty of space for everyone to swim. There's a kiddy pool (it's no more than 2' deep), A regular pool and then a lap pool that is perfect for kids eight and up (3-5 ft deep) The RV hook up are complete with sewer water and electric. The spaces are pretty wide. It would fit about three RVs in each spot. So there's plenty of room to have your RV several tents tables and games all set up . There's many different areas to choose from. If you're on the top from Chardonnay lot you'll get beautiful views a lot of privacy even green grass in the center for kids to play. But it is more secluded and farther from the clubhouse the golf course and the pools. If you choose the Oak lots, it's very shaded and close to everything. But it's much more crowded. Shop prices are very reasonably priced. If you're there for the lake you'll be disappointed. Most of the time it's closedown and it's very far away and shouldn't go swimming it's pretty nasty. read more

Rolling hills, old oak trees, grass, spacious RV spots, general store, bunk house bar, pizza and ice cream parlor, miniature golf, horse shoes, frisbee golf, pool, trials and basketball. Lovely location for family or couples. If you bring your kiddos you must allow them to bring bikes, scooters or a skateboard as the area is very spacious. Worst campground I have ever stayed at. We have been camping for years in all types of campgrounds and they should be very ashamed at the conditions of this facility. Broken shards of glass above showers in one area, other showers were a dirty concrete cell with no curtain, lights did not function in one laundry room, other laundry room had a broken chair and table in it and the lights were held in with pieces of cardboard. I have photos of all of it. Asked for a refund with no reponse whatsoever. KOA should be thinking twice to have their logo on this place. I would give it 0 stars if that were an option. read more

Terrible! 2 1/2 mile walk to lake, no cars or golf carts allowed. Golf cart rental was 2 day minimum @ $290. Many dogs unleashed and not enforced. Wife having trouble walking up hill (hip replaced) to our site and asked for a ride from worker on golf cart and was refused. Site is stones and dirt. Bar onsite was order only, all tables and chairs removed. read more

I want to provide a fair review so I will report on both positives and negatives. Positives The place is very convenient and the drive is easy and enjoyable. The staff at the check in counter were friendly and professional. The campgrounds are clean and its a good family atmosphere. I have to give a shout out to the amazing bar tenders who did a great job and made excellent drinks. Negatives We stayed in the Arroyo Seco section (space 331 and 332 to be exact). This area is a little neglected. Be aware that there are no picnic tables like everywhere else in the campground. I was fortunate to pack an extra. Our water spicket had an external attachment that leaked so bad we had no water pressure. Thankfully, I had a "y" adaptor and extra hose and was able to tap onto my neighbors. I reported the problem at the office and nobody showed up all weekend to address the problem. It was still broken when we left on Sunday. This is just bad service. If I was not prepared, we would have been in a little bit of trouble. Their customer service needs a little attention in the maintenance department. One last thing, the road on the way in needs repair. Its in poor shape with tons of pot holes. Overall, I would stay again. I would not book a site in the Arroyo Seco area. The rest of the camp ground is awesome. KOA, your campers are your business. You should go above and beyond to ensure your customers are happy. You have the power to make or break people's vacation experience. read more

We love this campground and have been there 6 times now. I do have complaints though. First is that they do not enforce dogs being off leash, we have 2 small children and we were almost attacked one morning - I call them to enforce every time but it seems useless. The other problem is that the trees are too short and some spots you have no choice to turn around. I have to choose spots very carefully because my 5th wheel was severely scratched last trip. We always go to vial lake resort. Especially on a October weekend. They have the best family fun!! They have 3 pools and basketball courts. You can bring your golf cart, bicycles, etc. They have a village that has a dj . Store , solon and they also sell firewood. They have dancing , and contest on the best Halloween costume and etc. The whole family goes treat or treating and everyone decorates There trailer spot or tents . They also have a haunted House and some bounce houses for the lil ones. So much more . But the down side is it's always booked fast. So you should get a spot ! read more

We love camping here. We have a standing trip with our closest friends every year. Currently there is no access to the lake, hopefully that will change in the future. The asphalt throughout the oaks portion of the campground is trashed and it would be so nice if it was re-done. The only real complaint that I have is the cranky old fart that drives around yelling at everyone. He drives 20 mph + to tell kids to go 5 mph or less... yelled at me for not wearing a helmet... I'm 42... It would be nice if icecream shop and store could stay open until end of karaoke too. read more

We have been coming to Vail Lake for years both for recreational camping as well as for my sons mountain bike races through the school. I was really bummed today when I called to reserve a spot next to our friends, for a future event to hear that they not only charge you for the camp site, totally expected, but now they also charge a $25 fee to guarantee you get the site you reserve??? Isn't that what a reservation is for? This is a pretty sneaky way to squeeze an extra $25 from you when you want spots next to each other. read more

My first trip to the area was for a Muddy-Buddy giving us the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful topography. It wasn't 'till several years later that we would return to enjoy the campgrounds. We have had the pleasure of being invited to a few well planned out group trips to the RV Resort. Two of which were for the October Halloween festivities. It took a second to warm up to the idea of fully dressing out the 2nd week of the month but, if ever a Halloween town existed-this is it! So much fun and Spooky Spirit! I love how it feels like a family reunion-where you greet everyone like your connected somehow. And bonus-you run into so many people you actually know! The staff has always been pretty cool-this year however, Tim and Jim were over the top helpful! Unlike my fellow campers I have not been "on the list" for 10 years! (I don't even technically have my own spot)! But, you wouldn't know that by their hospitality. I especially appreciate that they were willing to assist our guys with their accommodations. While it ain't easy planning meals and hosting pop-bys and cleaning up after a rowdy crew I think the women may have it easier that the guys who have to handle the heavy loading, set-up and tear down fix all the problems and navigate the logistics of it all. Sexist maybe but, the chicks don't get it-and this is also true of the staff! Thank you Tim and Jim for having our guys backs and for going out of your way to accommodate their set up and expedite them to their much needed and well deserved "we're on vacay beer"! If you ever get invited to do Halloween at Vail do it-it's highly recommended but, if you don't have great friends like ours you might wanna sign up now...if your pregnant, you might get in by the time your kid is old enough to trick or treat! read more

Vail Lake Resort in Temecula, CA. What a peaceful camp ground when we were there just prior to Thanksgiving 2017. It is beautiful, with may trees, and mountain bike trails. If you want peaceful do not go here during the wine festival. I gave Vail Lake Resort four stars as the bathrooms definitely need a make over. New flooring, fixtures, and painting will go a long way. After reading several mixed reviews, I decided to take my truck and trailer here this weekend with many family members. It was only a 45 minute drive which makes this place attractive. On arrival of the front check-in area, the man checking us in was very friendly and made the trip start off on a good note. The camp sites were very clean and it really shows that this place is really taken care of. We interacted with several employees and they were all helpful, positive and overall happy. There is a store that is open during the day, which is pretty nice if you forgot anything for your trip. They also have miniature golf and a few other amenities that you can do. We all stayed two night and last night, we got to spend a couple hours watching karaoke at the main building. This was the most fun I have had in a while. Kids were getting up and singing as well as the adults. Having the bar right there was a plus for the adults wanting to have a couple of drinks while listening to the fun. 10 PM came around and it was quiet time, so we all went back to our sites. Everyone in the area was respectful of the noise and we didn't have any issues with neighbors. There was also security that drove by often and they were friendly and waved at us each time. It gave a feel of being safe without being "watched." Overall, I think this is my favorite camp site in the San Diego/Riverside area and I can't wait to go back for the next family getaway. read more

This place is always our go to location to vacation locally!!! We enjoy this place.. it has a pool, nice trails for both bicycle and walking trail.. before they had it for jeeps and razors, but like always someone always have to screw it up for everyone else.. Anyways, we first got there last weekend, and was grated by the most awesomeness person in awhile... Ms Carmen!!! She was great... she gave us the run down of the place... all the activities for the weekend for both the adult and the kids.. That's nice, to have someone like her greet the campers..makes you feel home away from home.. Thank you Ms carmen for all the information you provided! Also, ladies at reservation office, the awesome, very patient, very dedicated to keeping the community restroom clean and orderly was outstanding... Keep up the great work vail lake staff... Neebies on Easter weekend we arrived after dark so it was hard to figure out where our lot was. The signs and postings are not lit nor visible. The young females who answered are not knowledgeable nor helpful. I was told no tents or guest were permitted and upon our arrival I saw tents. The guard gave us a extra ticket for any guest we'd like to join. That was extremely annoying that the young office female employees are not properly trained on what Vail Lake offers and policies. Anyhow Vera promised me a call once she has a meeting with her staff to only tell me that it was probably misscommunication and no one would have given me wrong information. So basically Vera believes her customers are liars. The roads at the resort all have potholes or roots from the tree lifting the concrete. The lots are not maintained nor clean. The trees branches hang over the road which caused scratching on our brand new trailer. The pools are clean but not heated. Pool Trash was overflowing and trash was all over the floor. The water slide was not open but looking at the paint peeling from the slide entering the pool discouraged me on any future plans with Vail Lake. It is very expensive for a unkept resort. The resort name convinced us the price was right till we encountered this unpleasant experience. read more

Terrible reservation system. Reserved a spot on January 06,2022, paid the full amount to my card. On January 19, 2022 received a text that told me my reservation was cancelled.They told me to call in on January 20,2022 to rebook my reservation. I tried to call in on January 20,2022 for over 1.5 hours and also sent texts and they would not answer their phones or respond to my texts. I called back that same afternoon, finally someone answered their phone and was told the campground was full and no longer taking reservations. They are a terrible organization and have no idea how to conduct business or retain customer satisfaction. read more

How disappointing. We arrived Friday 7/11/20 at 3:30pm. It was 100 degrees...only to find out that the pool was fully booked for the entire weekend. Their website does not make it clear that you need reservations to use the pool. Keep in mind you only get 45 minutes to swim. We packed up our whole family and drove for a few hours, only to turn around and drive back home. The whole vibe there was not fun. They are in almost full lockdown mode, making the employees cranky. Poor guy working the check in desk wearing a mask and sweating to death due to the heat and suffocation. Sad. We were given a refund. I hear that this place used to be super fun and had great activities for kids. It is totally different now. read more

My family and I stayed here 3 nights, it was a nice campground. My one complaint is that a lot of people bring golf carts and they haul ass down the streets. Makes it very hard to let my small kids play and ride their scooters. So unfortunately they were not able to play much. And it was constant all 3 days. Not only golf carts but there were also cars not driving slow. I saw nobody enforcing speed or any signs posted. It's only a matter of time before something really bad happens. I really hope they can improve this and we can come back. read more
