Campground is nice if you stay in your campsite. If you decide to venture up to the Village, you will be disappointed. After almost being run off the pot holed road by an underage kid driving a golf cart, you get to the village. The Bunkhouse bar is good but the music in the area is horrible. The music is too loud and explicit with young kids around. The "DJs"should be more intuitive to the crowd. read more

This RV resort has the biggest spaces I've ever seen. It was such a pleasure to back our 32ft travel trailer into it and hookup within minutes. We liked the Oaks section along the dry creek. Lots of trees, birds and quiet. Big enough so that you can set up games and plenty of room to spread out. Lots of paths to bike on. Saturday was a little noisy but it was down the way a bit. The clubhouse had karaoke that night, and the bar is open on Friday-Saturday. We used the pools the next day and they were awesome. It seems that people bring their easy up to the pool area and set up there. There three pools in that area including a very shallow kiddie one. Really nice water. No lifeguard but they tell you that with the info you get upon checkin. Staff was very helpful and super nice. The only reason I didn't give a 5 was there's no water in the lake! read more

This campground used to be such a great place to camp with family and friends. It has really gone down hill. During our last trip there was a lot of theft and vandalism. Management did a very poor job of handling the situation. There was no communication, no accountability and an over all lack of concern for others. This was my first time at Vail Lake on a trip I was really looking forward to. It didn't dissappoint overall, it's a nice campground, great for families, and the mountain bike trails are cool. It was pretty crowded, as you would expect on Thanksgiving Weekend. Unfortunately, I have some issues with what I expected versus what I got... I booked a site in Arroyo which was supposed to have water and sewer hookups, and WiFi. I really needed the WiFi because I'm super busy at work and planned this as a working vacation. Come to find out, there is zero WiFi anywhere near the area of my site, and to top that off no cell service (obviously not KOAs fault). The other issue I have is that after setting up camp I couldn't find the sewer connection. I thought it had to be there buried somewhere, after all, I could see that most others nearby were hooked up, not to mention it's what I paid for. I wasn't in a major rush since I still had water, so on day three I asked the staff and was told there is no sewer at the site I booked, site 340, which is apparently one of a handful with no sewer. Whaaaat?! While I wasn't thrilled, what could I do? I figured oh well I'll just dump on the way out. This became a huge concern when my tank filled up before it was time to leave. I didn't figure out soon enough that I was going to have to conserve. I wasn't about to hook up the trailer to go dump, just to come back and have to set it all up again, so I left a day early from my trip. I really don't know how this could be missed by Vail Lake KOA, but they really need to do something about that because it's a bit absurd in my opinion. As a consumer I appreciate transparency and I don't think my expectations were unreasonable. I am not someone who is hard to please. I literally did not get what I paid for, and ultimately I wish I hadn't gone after all of this. I'd cautiously go back, but the reputation is tarnished in my book. Lesson learned... especially when you are paying $75 per night. I could have stayed in a hotel at that rate. So my advice is you ought to call them and make doubly sure what they are selling you is as advertised. read more

Vail Lake Resort - Campgrounds Near Me - Temecula, California

This resort was absolutely disappointing to say the least. As a person of Latin descent, I was not only RACIALLY discriminated against by surrounding campers, but by campground staff as well! My family and I did NOT feel safe here (or even remotely welcomed), which ultimately created a hostile environment for us. We were not able to explore the campground, nor enjoy the live entertainment down by the main office without being stared down by everyone you walked past, and hearing racial slurs being muttered underneath their breath. I was speaking Spanish to my mom at one point, and someone behind us said "They think they are still in Mexico." If you do not appear to be white, be prepared to be treated like a minority. I have never experienced prejudice to this extent, until I came to Lake Vail Resort. Thankfully, my parents were able to reserve their RV space via KOA's website, otherwise I am sure our complexion would have denied us the reservation! It is absolutely disparaging to experience blatant racism and discrimination, especially in today's political climate. We went for the first time and we stayed in the oaks campsite. The sites are huge so that is a plus. Really disappointed in the mini golf course. It's completely thrashed. The amenities all together are just outdated. Also, the restaurant and bar should stay open a little later than 8:00 pm. Bummer that Wi-Fi isn't free either. It only is for 24 hours. If a little TLC was put into this place it would be perfect. read more

Our favorite spot ever! There's so much for an active young family. It's usually full so if you want more space try to reset in arroyo or one of the small loops but we have had an exceptional time every site we've stayed in. Bring your rock hounding friends and fur babies! read more

Vail Lake Resort - $16. Really? - Campgrounds Near Me - Temecula, California

We stayed for the first time this weekend (early March) and it's a beautiful area, easy to get to off the 79 east of Temecula. There is a cafe with great fries and nachos, a Bar that was very good and Saturday night they said there was live entertainment. Along with a camp store. We didn't it make it back to the stage as the campground is large and requires biking back to the store. I wouldn't attempt camping here unless you had a bike, golf cart, etc to get around. We were in Arroyo Seca area which is a far distance and there really is no Wi-Fi even though it's stated there is, they give you a slip of paper and check in with the info but it never came up. There is no cell service either so for us, this is required with our line of work. The areas with service on the map really are not decent to check emails or anything. Staff was helpful and Friendly. If you purchase firewood from the store, they will deliver to your site (which we did). Could not get To Lake as road was Washed out from storms and looks like it will be closed awhile. I would go back again as long as we figure out a cell service/ Wi-Fi option. read more

Stayed here 11/19-11/20. Quick get away as I live in Temecula. Stayed in the no power area and it was super quiet and secluded. Guess I chose a good night. Breakfast burrito was great and good coffee. Did some exploring with my 3 year old son. Pretty good. Dog poop from previous campers was all over my site. The previous campers must not have had a trash can for the poop or their cigarette butts. There was broken glass that we had to sweep before we could even set up. The campsite next to ours had a pile of rib bones stacked against the tree and more cigarette butts than mine. The pool was disgusting. The pumps must not work. It was cloudy and you could barely see to the bottom in the 5 foot section. There was a gross film on top of the water where the stairs were to get in. You had to cut through it if you didn't want to jump in somewhere else. The chlorine was so over powering. There was trash all over the ground in the pool area and the bathrooms were filthy. For the money you spend to stay at this "resort" you'd think it would be maintained a lot better. read more

DO NOT GO HERE WITH A TENT! Checked in for tent camping - had no idea this was a wall-to-wall campground - like parking at a rowdy, dusty Walmart. Had a tent and set it up fine - but two hours later repacked the entire campsite and went home with a bad headache. They put trailers running outside generators RIGHT NEXT to tent campers - and by that I mean within 15 feet. Miserable experience. BTW, although it was clean, the bathroom in the Arroyo Seco (no power/tent area) was tiny and beatup looking - like the bathroom at an old gas station. We decided to camp at Vail Lake KOA since it was near home and this was the first time taking our trailer out. I made a reservation back in February for the end of April. I chose the upper Chardonnay area since it seemed to have great views. We were able to check in early on Friday around 11am. They are currently repaving all of the roads so there was a bit of a detour. We were in site # 14 which has NO SHADE. It is right next to the dumpster which is kind of nice since there is no one behind you. This spot is also right across from the bathroom. Bathrooms had 3 showers and weren't bad at all. It has a super pretty view of the hills too. We did try to change spots when we first arrived but were given the run around about how if you'd like to reserve a particular spot it's a $25 site guarantee fee. FORGET THAT! At $60 a night its already a steep price for what you get. The website also did not indicate that this area DOES NOT have picnic tables as it does for other sites. Right down the hill from upper Chardonnay there is the camp store, bar and mini golf. The bar has pretty good prices on drinks and was busy! We played a round of mini golf which was pretty fun while listening to Karaoke on Saturday night. We took the small hike to Vail Lake since the roads are washed out. It's about 1.5 miles round trip. The view of the lake was really pretty! We also stopped by the pool which was nice as well and right at the trailhead for the lake hike. Overall, we enjoyed our short stay! Hopefully KOA will get some picnic tables at every site... read more

This place is pretty great as far as location and their Halloween weekend festivities. I gave it 4 stars because of the bathroom. It's disgusting and has needed help and a makeover years ago. HALLOWEEN WEEKEND: - costume contest for dogs and people, our dog won 3rd but we clearly heard her winning first place. But we weren't gonna argue - DJ - haunted trail (1/2 mile) - haunted hospital - people go insane with decoration at their sites - golf arts everywhere - VERY FANILY ORIENTED: so many kids. I think we were the only people without kids - Cost effective: families can stay here and get a hayride and two haunted houses with DJ playing music. And stay for the weekend for $110 a night for up to 6 people per site. Next year is $125 a night - At quiet hours people do settle down, thank goodness. - 100 decorated golf carts - pure insanity. People is costumes everywhere, wasted parents, kids having a blast, DJ at pool during day and at village at night PROS: - amazing for Halloween weekend - putt putt - horseshoes - bar with beer, wine, and full liquor. They have a small village - ice cream shop with pizza, nachos, and fries - mountain bike trail - Hiking - Nearby wineries - Two big pools and a kiddie pool - Bocce Ball - Pickleball court - Tether ball - Lower Oak spots are super shady and nice - Upper sites are quiet but not shady CONS: - Dart. Not darts. They literally only had one dart - Barrios are horrific. Need to be torn down and rebuilt - No cell service and no wifi unless your at the office/village - they should put pool tables in main office. Lots of wasted space. And more supplies for RVers. They don't have much inside - POOL: it was so fricken cold I couldn't swim. So many people were complain. It had to be 20-30 degrees. My toes and feet were hurting because of how cold it was. I couldn't go in. So sad b/c it looked so good - We must've had some hill jacks next to us because they were blasting their music all fricken day with no regards to others around them. JUST PURCHASED BY KOA.... I've been coming here for years, written previous great reviews. Didn't take long before KOA started nickle and diming you to death. They raised the storage fee by $20 a month. (NO Improvements.) They removed the Good Sam Discount, which was 50% off your 1st nights stay. They now charge $25 extra if you want to reserve a specific site number, otherwise, you purchase an area, they assign the site. Even National parks let you pick a site. 5 STARS for the staff. Good to see they kept many of the original staff such as Gary, Shari, and Katelyn. This will be the only thing that keeps people coming back. Trust me, these price hikes and the restrictions were all people were talking about on our last stay. read more

My wife and I just hosted our Vintage Trailer Rally here (Campersgiving). We had over 30 vintage trailers dating from mid-1930's through late 70s. Folks came in from Las Vegas, Arizona, Orange County, and San Diego. We stayed In the Oaks area, and everyone in attendance was blown away by the camp ground! Not only the camp ground, but the staff/grounds crew. All of which were super kind, happy to be around, and always checking into our needs. We will definitely be making this an annual event, and thoroughly appreciated vail lake for all that they did for us! Park is not in ADA compliance!! It was upsetting to not have access to the pools for our friend and fellow camper. Bathrooms are also not ADA compliant nor is the website. We spoke to the park supervisor and he stated they do NOT have to be as they KOA bought the park in 2019 and are grandfathered in and have 10 years to become ADA compliant! This is a load of crock he fed to us! ADA is not a choice it is law and we are all writing to proper outlets re: this park and it's illegal practices and choices! My daughters bike was also stolen Sunday by campers this weekend that we're staying in the cabins. They were an Asian family father with 3 boys whom were fishing by my son I law . They talked to him while they were all fishing. Another person saw 4 guys matching the description of the thieves heading from the lake bank to KOA vail abd 1 with a bike that was the one taken when my son in law was fishing that disappeared when the father & 3 guys left from fishing! read more

great spot! so much to do. mountain biking in the campsite- 2 different spots. our 6y did awesome! not a lot of shade for camping so pick your spot well, and the spots are close together, so we got smoke in our tent from someones fire all night plus another camper left their noisy generator on all night but everyone was respectful about noise at night. there is just lots to do! Different craft kits every hour, fun free mini golf, biking, and exploring behind our tents- little hikes. next time i would rent a golf cart with our site. you have to do that prior to getting there. read more

We had a good time last year during the Halloween event and we turned in our paperwork on the last day of the weekend to reserve the site to stay with our friends and families again for 2024. Today the manager, Gloria said sorry we gave your site away because we don't have your paperwork. I was told by the cashier my card would be charged by June. I followed up at the end of July 2024 to see why it wasn't charged and I was told to call back when Gloria was back from vacation. So I called today and she basically said too bad we don't have your paperwork and we gave your site away. So they lost my paperwork that I turned into the cashier in 2023 that has my name, home address and credit card information then basically told me to screw off because they lost the paperwork and already gave my site away. She didn't care whatsoever about their screw up and losing my paperwork that their employee verified my personal information on and put in their pile on the counter. This is how they treat people's personal information with zero accountability. I know they don't care because they can fill the spots, but it's pretty crappy how they treat you and your personal information. read more

Been coming here for 5 years. Not exactly sure where the others camped in the park who said the spots are small and close together. Our space is huge and nicely spaced out. If you've ever been to mission bay RV park, THOSE are small and close together. We stay up top on Chardonnay Mesa. Nice breezes, beautiful views and decent shade cover. Although the rona has made Saturday's at the pool by reservation and there's no more karaoke which was my JAM we still love it here. Only downside to us is the customer service is lacking. We can't hardly talk to a person on the phone because they don't answer. The staff is pretty young and some are great, others seem miserable and it rubs off on the customer. KOA has done a great job cleaning up the place though and rumor is there will be lake access again in late 2021! read more

The facilities are really run down at the KOA at Vail Lake. The check in process is a bit cumbersome because the two people working there are also checking out customers shopping in the nice gift store. Our hook ups all worked fine at our campsite. We played putt putt golf but the course was in dreadful shape and we actually saw a small rattlesnake in that area. read more

The staff is stellar. Honestly if there is only one thing they excel in-it's that. That being said, check in wasn't smooth as I was in line with other folks buying stuff in the store. Driving to the campsite felt like driving through an RV show as they were one on top of the next. Then when I got to my campsite it was entirely unclear where one campsite started and the next ended. We honestly just wanted to pitch our tent, and know which table and fire pit was ours-our footprint was really small. (The website said there were no tables in Arroyo Seco-the entire area had brand new tables-yay!) We were in Arroyo Seco and were expecting a nice quiet experience. Our neighbors told us the whole week was quiet until the weekend (I suppose that's to be expected). There was loud music and generators going into the evening and kids rat racing in gas powered carts past midnight Friday into Saturday. We participated in the kiddo activities on Saturday and they were all happy. (Disappointed that all the pool reservations (?!) for the heat of the day were used up by Friday afternoon.) The putt putt golf course is a fun thoughtful design in a very sad state of decay. The live music (two piano bar gents) was fantastic! We and our three littles all had so much fun! Keep your map handy, the park is massive and way finding signs are virtually non existent. read more

Turd of a camp ground. Camp if you love desert rats/ river rats lifestyle. These fools drive around in golf carts all day long blasting music, stop right in front of your camp site boom boom boom. I'm sorry but I don't get it. Also, teens are driving their parents golf carts and small cars like idiots. Literally last night the group next to us had a party until 3:00 am. I've never been to a camp ground that doesn't enforce the quite rule. If I wanted to listen to someone bump music and have a party in the wee hours of the morning on Easter I'll just hang out in San Berdoo. I just dealt with it, but we shouldn't have to. My husband and I came here with our dogs a couple days before 4th of July. When you pull up there is no dedicated place to stop to go check in. You basically just stop in the road and block traffic. We stayed in Upper Chardonnay. We were very pleased with our site because there were so many trees and a great view (site 21). Vail lake is off in the distance and too far to walk (like miles away). You get a peek-a-boo view from site 46. Im not really sure why this camp ground is called Vail Lake. You only get wifi for one device and it worked well. My TV antenna could not get any channels. I think there was cable too but I couldn't get any of those channels either. The bathrooms were typical camp ground bathrooms made of concrete that could use updating. The roads are asphalt that need to be repaved. Our neighbors kid was wearing sandals and stubbed his toe on the uneven road. There were tons of flies and bugs all the time. Not really relaxing. My poor dogs were constantly tormented. There is a bar that keeps odd hours during the week. There is a store, a mini golf course, basketball court, volleyball court, tetherball, a joke of a dog park and a huge pool area with three large pools. All of which are very far from Upper Chardonnay. I recommend staying in the Oaks Section. Its closer to everything. It wasn't too crowded when we went and I got the creepy vibe of Camp Crystal Lake because everything seems so remote and spaced out. I was scared to walk my dogs alone because there was so much space where there were no campers. No one would hear me scream if a killer or wild animal came after me. read more

Since Vail lake turned into a KOA the amount of people going to vail lake campground has exploded. As neighbors of the park this started to effect us. Campers began trespassing on our property. We experienced vandalism and theft as a result. I called everyone (including the new owner) and no one cared to listen or do anything about it. I'm giving this KOA 3 stars solely on the diligence of Ian the head of security. He was so kind and helpful when I confronted him about the issues we were having. Super disappointed. We were so excited to choose this place for our "long" vacation with so many amenities offered. But super important to note!!! If you are excited to do the facility lead activities, enjoy the bar or cafe this is all NON existent during the week. A huge disappointment since that was our summer vacation. They also seem to have plenty of workers but hardly anyone doing anything, there was trash left all over the mini golf from the weekend, their dumpsters were overflowing and just overall poorly run. We've been coming here for a number of years now. (See "Vail Lake Village Resort" review). We were here again this past weekend so I thought it best to update my prior review based on our most recent experience(s)... So this is more geared toward this particular stay and the associated "Terror in the Oaks at Vail Lake Resort". There has supposedly been yet another "change in ownership" within the last two months or so. My understanding is that the Rancho California Water District has since purchased the campground and surrounding property via bankruptcy sale. Whether or not that works out in favor of campers is yet to be seen. Based on our most recent experience, my hopes are not too high... We generally stay here about 4 times a year, as it is close to local casinos, Temecula wine country and old town Temecula, but this visit was our first since January of this year. In that short time, we've noticed some changes, not all necessarily for the better. Generally speaking, it is, and always has been, a "pricey" campground so nothing there has changed. That, I can deal with. What we have seen over the years is that the Halloween event is now booked to the limits, which makes for long lines for the festivities. Top that off with unsupervised kids running amok, recklessly riding scooters / power wheels or even driving golf carts around the campgrounds / campsites like headless little chickens. The park "rangers", (i.e., security), while nice enough, leave little to be desired when it comes to "enforcement". Some fools that take residence up in the campgrounds at this time of year seem to think they and their rigs are mobile DJ booths, and that of course, you just happen to like the same music that they do!!! Don't get me wrong... I love my tunes. Black Sabbath, oldies, funk, even some country, you name it, but I also have respect for others. I don't blast my $hit at decible levels akin to standing behind a Boeing 747 during take-off at Maho Beach in St. Maarten ALL FREAKIN' NIGHT LONG!!! And I sure as hell don't wake up at 4:00am on Saturday morning to do the same effin' thing. Believe it or not fools, some people have babies, (or even grandbabies)!!! And even after politely asking them to lower the noise level AND having security speak with them, no go. I understand it's camping and yes in some instances, you are in close proximity to your neighbors / fellow campers, but when you can't hold a decent conversation with members of your own group without yelling at the top of your lungs because your neighbor's 4 sites away are blaring Luke Bryan from studio monitors, something is wrong... Some people... Being a "full hook-up" campground, one would think that means, water, sewer, electrical... On more than one occasion, campers, (ourselves included), have been left without one or more of these utilities that are part of the price of site rental. In the past, Vail management has refused to offer credit or refunds to customers when one or more of these vital services is either not available or is disrupted for a day or more... Supposedly, the new management will be offering those of us who were left without electricity this past weekend a one day credit... Time will tell. One thing I do know... Vampire Vail Lake, or "Terror in the Oaks at Vail Lake Resort" , as it was called this year... You're fired!!! We'll stick to the "non-event" dates... read more

We stayed here the weekend of April 15-17 2016. Stayed with friends in side by side sites, 88 and 87. There is ZERO cell service here, unless you go over to the area where the bar and grocery store are. But if you're camping you probably are happy to "turn off"...but if you go camping with teenagers, be ready to hear complaints. Best to put your phone in airplane mode to avoid sucking the battery dry, and post your pics to Yelp and Instagram once you get home LOL The bar was pretty fun, they have Happy Hour, every one was fun and friendly, the drinks are stiff. And not horribly expensive. To get to the actual lake, you will need to drive. You can ride a bike, if you like riding up and down dusty hills...but how will you transport your cooler and towels? It's far. Don't bother trying if you have little kids with you. You need to drive. You can fish the lake, if you have a fishing license. My BF has one, so he was good to go, the rest of us could have bought them for $10 from the rangers. The sites we were in were relatively shaded, the place is nice overall, the public bathrooms were clean and well kept, we'd stay here again. read more

we had so much fun here! came with a gianormous group of folks (probably 300 people). we had way more tents per site than were probably allowed... we had way more cars/rv's/campers than were probably allowed... we made way too much noise than was probably allowed...(seriously dance parties for the kids with a full PA till 10 at night...then after kids went to bed....playing cards till 2 am!) tons of space for kids to ride their bikes/scooters.... 3 very cold pools that the kids enjoyed cooling off in since it was a warm day in Temecula... bathrooms were ok.... all in all...other than the fact that sites are really close together...i could see myself coming back with the family... read more

This park was highly recommended to us. Let me start off by saying I have a 3, 8 and 14 year old. They were all bored. If you don't have a golf cart, this park is too spread out to enjoy. We rode bikes to the "snow play" which was a 5 foot tall solid block of ice. My 3 year old went down and busted open his chin. The kids working just laughed. Didn't offer to help or a first aid kit. Ordered firewood from the on-site store and they said they'd deliver it to our campsite. 2.5 hours later, I went to check on the delivery and they apologized and said, "We will bring it over immediately." A little over an hour, once we were almost ready for bed they finally brought it. We ended our trip 2 days early. It wasn't for us. I will say, if I didn't have kids, the hiking trials looked amazing. Hope this helps! read more

Stayed this past weekend in "Oaks" area. Enjoyed our stay. Grounds were really muddy and tore up due to recent storms, but they had crews cleaning it up pretty efficiently. WiFi was spotty, but still was able to check and post pics to Facebook, etc. They can improve on WiFi. Also, No cable TV hookups...They need to fix that! Stumbled across the old waterslides from WAY back when they called this place "Butterfield Country" in the 70's. Hope they open them back up soon! Place was pretty empty and quiet. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were spotless!! General Store was pretty weak. Not much in there. Bunkhouse Bar was cool...had a cocktail (really good), Mini-Golf Course needs some work, but free and fun. If you bring your dog, and like to wine-taste, head over to the dog-friendly Bailey Wineries. Will be back in the summer! read more
