Found a leak behind my toilet and after trying to fix it decided to call Val Betti Plumbing. Got an appointment the very next day. Mikael came out and replaced the compression toilet valve. And everything was great. That night when using my bathroom sink I noticed the water pressure was not good. Call Val Betti back and Mikael came out and cleaned the aerator that was full of sediment . My house has old plumbing and after turning on and off the water the gunk plugged the screen. Mikael pulled the screen out and cleaned it it work fabulous. And no charge. Recently we need to replace a bathroom sink drain. We had purchased the drain from the company where we purchased the sink, but they neglected to say that the drain stopper size was almost triple the size of the original one. I submitted a rave review about Val Betti plumbing two days ago which never posted so I'm trying again. My new ge stackable washer dryer was installed on July 18, 2025 by Home Depot, but the machine wasn't draining correctly. The installer suggested that I get a new drain pipe. For that I would need to call a plumber. Ryan from Valbetti was here in 15 minutes. He checked the installation said the machine was installed perfectly and that I indeed needed a 4 inch drain pipe not a 1 inch drain pipe. I told him that I had used the 1 inch drain pipe for 40 years with no problems. Could we just try to run the machine one more time? This time there was no problem with the drainage at all. Ryan told me to use it for a while. It probably was some sludge in the hose. And if I had more problems, I might consider putting in the 4 inch drain pipe. (Three months out and no problems with the 1 inch drain pipe) He was so helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and simply the quintessential plumber next-door who knows everything, that I can't rave enough about him . I thought I must give him something to do since he wasn't going to charge me....I couldn't let him leave empty-handed.... so I directed him to my clogged tub drain and after one hour he pulled a 3 foot tree root out of the drain. It had probably been there for 40 years and I had called many plumbers to correct this. None of them had done it. Ryan is a very special Plumber who goes that extra mile to give you lots of tips and helpful advice, as well as excellent first rate friendly service. He's my first call plumber now. I have used this company before but this is the first time writing a review. Yesterday, I woke up to a leaking toilet and water all over the bathroom floor. I left a message at around 7:00 a.m. and got a call back half an hour later. They had someone come to my house by 10:00 a.m. the same morning! Avoid these guys. I both called and left a message as well as submitted a contact via their website about a fairly small job, garbage disposal replacement. They ignored me completely. Then as test i called from a different number using a different name about a water heater replacement, which they charge like $2,000 for. Guess what? They called me right back. These guys just want big jobs, which is weird because they can charge the same hourly rate no matter what. They should at least call people back, rather than ignore people. I woke up one morning at 4am and smelled a gas leak. I checked all the obvious clues - stove, furnace and nothing looked out of the ordinary. I called PG&E and they did their check and found a very small leak and advised that I needed a plumber. Val Betti Plumbing actually picked up the phone and indicated they could come out the next morning. The others I called either didn't call me back, or said it would be two weeks before they could come out. Not realistic to not have heat or a way to cook with a family of 5, so I confirmed with them for the next morning. They showed up early, and Wade and worker were all business. Wade jumped in and showed me the pricing structure first so I knew what to expect, then described their process of blowing air through pipes to find leak. They did their check and I had a couple of rusty valves that needed replacing. He took care of it efficiently, gave me an overview and showed me the parts that were replaced. Very reasonably priced.I spoke with Melissa on the phone just this morning and explained that water was backing up into my bathtub and water was leaking under the base of my toilet after doing a load of laundry. She said we can have someone there by 2:00 today. Ryan and Eduardo were right on time and went straight to work. I called Val Betti because I have an old floor furnace and needed the thermostat to be looked at. We had very good experiences with Val Betti before and their techs are very knowledgeable. Today, their plumber, Mitch came out and arrived on time. Mitch came to our house a year ago for furnace maintenance and did a good job. This time, Mitch came to our house, said hello at the door, and then started doing all this stuff that I didn't ask or even knew I was going to be charged for. He gave me a bill for furnace cleaning/inspection ($254) that I didn't even ask to be done or was not aware he was planning on doing. He walked in our house and just started doing stuff without stating what he is doing and informing us of the cost. Then he gave us the bill for the furnace cleaning and a quote for a new thermostat part/installation. When I refused to pay the bill, he said "Well I gotta charge you something!" Who does that? Also, now Val Betti charges $281 to have a basic Honeywell thermostat installed that costs $20 on Amazon. When I set up the initial appointment, the Val Betti staff stated that the assessment/quote is free. I called the Val Betti's main office to complain about Mitch. I spoke with Vince and received an equivalent of a shoulder shrug and a limp sorry. Basically Vince said "I will talk to Mitch...he shouldn't have done that!" with little enthusiasm to rectify the situation. I am very disappointed with this experience as I have used these guys for the last 7 years. read more

I have been using Val Betti for more than 20 years -- but never again. My disposal stopped and I could not find the reset button. Also, my toilet was beginning to 'talk' to me (gurgling) and I believed it was a simple replacement of the flap seal. My VB appt was for 8 am. At 8:20, I get a call saying the plumber was lost although he insisted that he was at the right location (he was lost.) When Jeff finally showed up at the gate around 8:45 am, I went outside to greet him as he was driving up but he then got on the phone for 10 minutes while I was still standing outside. (How rude!) He started on the disposal but said the problem was a failed outlet and I would need to call an electrician. He then started on the toilet. I witnessed him actually breaking a component so now he insisted on replacing the entire guts as he could not fix that portion of the ball float system. At this point, I was so upset I had to leave the room rather than staying there to watch him. I now have the newer-style slide float system instead of just replacing the flapper valve. When he called out that he was done, he also informed me that the wax seal had failed and the toilet was now leaking. I'll never know how he did that as it was NOT leaking before he arrived. i also wanted him to change out the showerhead and he said that would be $300. I talked him down to $100 which should have been $10 for the five minutes it took him but at that point I just wanted him gone. Jeff then insisted that the water pressure needed fixing despite my assurances that it was fine. But he persisted to insist that it be fixed so I finally asked him to send me an estimate to shut him up. So, now almost $500 later, I still have a disposal that doesn't work and a toilet that is worse than before Jeff arrived. Needless to say I am furious so I called to tell the boss about my experience but he has yet to call me back. I am so disappointed in the lack of customer service after all these years. I used to recommend Val Betti to others but never more and after all these years, I will not be calling them again. read more

We used Val Betti Plumbing for a series of plumbing jobs related to our retrofit. They were a little on the high end, price-wise, but we got good value for our money. All of their plumbers were skilled and efficient, and left the work area perfectly clean. Some of the work involved installing exposed pipes across our basement, and the new pipes not only work right, they look good. When there was a small problem with the last job, they sent someone to fix it as soon as they could. I would definitely recommend them. read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my mother. She has been dealing with a backed up toilet for months. The latest call was to Val Betti to come out and unclog the toilets. They have to go inside because there is no outside outlet. John was the technician who did the service call. My mom has two bathrooms, he broke the toilet in the guest bathroom, replaced it with a cheap toilet that flushes weird. He "supposedly" unclogged it. He did not clean up after himself and my mom spent over an hour cleaning up his mess, wiping down walls. He was foul mouthed. Fast forward to today, the issue has semi-returned and the landlady called Val Betti, they put her on hold for over five minutes, no one came on, she hung up. She calls back and speaks to a Vince. He was told that the toilets are clogging up again. He ACCUSED my mom of throwing paper towels down the toilet! The only thing that she is putting down is urine. I will not go into detail of what goes down the toilet but paper towels is not one of the items. Just liquid. This place is a joke. Terrible customer service and accusing the customer of doing things. This is not the way to handle or treat your customers. I guess you don't care about losing customers. It certainly looks that way. I gave your name to many people and now I will discourage anyone from going to you. I would give you 0 stars if I could but one star says it all. read more

I called literally 10 plumbers who all either A) Didn't respond or B) Responded that they "don't serve" Richmond. Wow....lots I could say about that, since most of them do service adjacent El Cerrito (just a few blocks from us). Val Betti was a breath of fresh air. They promptly called me back, and even though they didn't have an appointment available for several days they said they'd let me know if there was a cancellation or a slot to squeeze us in. Later that very day I received a call that they could come out immediately! The plumber was kind, respectful, and super efficient. He was able to fix our kitchen sink backup and the cost was so reasonable. He gave us a lot of great tips for avoiding future kitchen plumbing drama.
