I went in to tune up a couple snowboards before the season started, and right off the bat I was greeted with a warm welcome front the girl working the register. My son had some questions about a skateboard and the staff was very helpful. My son had been there on a previous occasions with some friends. He did not yet have a skateboard. Now I don't know if it is a common practice, and I don't want to get anyone in trouble. But I understand they keep some skateboards or decks and sell very cheap, if not give them away. On this occasion they had a board that needed a part that would cost about 2.00. They asked my son if he had 2.00. He did. They added the part to the board and made sure ecerything was tight, and my son had a skateboard. Now, the wheels had a lot of wear and the deck wasn't in great condition. But it was in my opinion, safe to use for him to learn how to ride a skateboard. I am grateful and appreciative this employee offered to help a kid that was interested in skateboarding and helped him along. As my son progresses in his ability in skateboarding, I will be returning to Val Surf to buy a new board for my son and any accessories and / or parts. This is how old school businesses used to treat their customers and make them want to come back. In reality, ensure a return customer. It shows they take an interest in their customers and recycle products that have been left by a previous owner of a board because they upgraded and bought a new one. read more

1st time here, drop off snow boards and received a phone call to pick up boards before 6pm because they were closing till further notice. Called to confirm and they said boards had not been waxed and needed to be picked up right away. We were about 2hrs alway and they said if they weren't picked up today they didn't know when they would be picked up , they were also going to give me a refund because boards weren't waxed. Receive another phone call 1hr later that they were closing at 3pm . When I got to pick up boards they said that they had been waxed in the morning but they didn't seem like they were .. I'm so disappointed with this place for such a huge inconvenience they had me go threw. read more

Didn't have my size in the boots that I wanted, So I went ahead and ordered them online and tried to purchase just the bindings from Vals Surf, they wouldn't sell me the bindings. Picture this...I walk into the ValSurf store after doing some much needed toy shopping down the lane and go to the shoe section where there are four guys standing around chatting about their new boards, how hot its been lately and how great the beach would be today. Seeing as it was the middle of the day, in the middle of the week I didn't think I would have trouble getting service. However, I WAS WRONG. I've been to this location a few times and they have a nice collection of just about anything snow, surf, skate, shoes, clothes you'd be looking for...except that is for toddlers. I needed a toddler pair of snowboard pants for my son and they only had kids sizes. :-( The service was pretty friendly in that slacker/stoner sorta way. They have a great selection of products and even if they don't they go out of their way to call another store to have the product shipped to their store! We visit LA about once a year and every time come to Val Surf for something skateboard related for my son. This time he got a new deck and grip tape for Christmas, but something strange happened when he put his trex together and we couldn't get the screw out (really strange... we all worked on it for a long time each and couldn't figure out why the screw wouldn't come out.). So we took it back to Val Surf hoping they could lead us in the right direction. They were extremely patient and 2 people worked with the board until they were able to solve the problem. Unfortunately it involved making quite a while in the new deck so they offered us a brand new deck and grip tape for only the cost of the tape!!!! I was amazed and my son was beyond thrilled!! We will be continuing to come back every time we are in LA to say hello to Justin. read more
