I called this week for a cake and they told me email them with all the info and I will receive an email the next day with a quote. After issues with the cake design the day of, the cake was too sweet, pineapple and vanilla custard flavor. This flavor was recommend to me from the shop but I should have listened to the prior review that it is too sweet. Not only is it too sweet it does not taste nice, the batter also distasteful. Me an Valencia cake go back 40 years. I been in Florida 20 years. Grew up in New York, has five children. We celebrated each one of my children's birthday for the first 10 years, and in the middle of the table was a Valencia cake. My children ages range from age 25 to 41, currently been living in Orlando for the past 21 years. My oldest lives in New york. Everytime she comes down to visit she brings me a Valencia cake. She is here in town and I just finished eating a piece of Valencia cake with pineapple filling, its so, so good. Yes Valencia and I will continue our relationship. Very rude customer service! As someone who has purchased Valencia cakes many of times (both personally and as a family), I am very disappointed with the last interaction with this business and I will not be using them in the future. I placed an order for a birthday cake the day of September 14th and when I went to pick up the order at 5:40pm, the business was closed. I double checked their website and their closing time was listed at 6pm. I called another Valencia located at 103rd Street and was informed that they closed at 5pm. The next morning, I reached out and asked for a refund and was told they would call me back later that day because they were busy in the bakery. I had to call back again and was told to wait until Wednesday for the refund. Fine. Today is Wednesday and I just had a very rude encounter with the manager. She had a huffy attitude and the first thing she said was she checked the cameras and saw that I never came by to the shop. Her husband had to close down at 5:30pm and I wasn't there before that time. ~Why not call me to inform of this ahead of time? ~What does that have to do with the 6pm closing time? ~Why even mention checking the cameras? I was told that i would be refunded my money, but I am disappointed that this long standing relationship had to end like this. There was zero need for the manager to be unnecessarily rude and not take responsibility for closing early. read more

Valencia cake is not a Dominican cake, Valencia is originally from Spain, the bakery is located in the South Bronx in Southern Boulevard, and it has been taking over by Puerto Rican for many years, but it is in Latino neighborhood. The cake is sold according to the flavor/filling you desire pineapple, coconut ect, in layers and the taste is very sweet as well the icing. A lot Hispanic loves it! Ordered my Baby shower cake with Valencia's who was highly recommended to me because they've been around for over 50 years. It cost me 120$ for a 14 inch round cake. It was a beautiful cake, I give it that... but it was embarrassing how horrible it tasted. It was embarrassing to me because I showing off this beautiful cake at my party and when it came down to serving it, it completely fell apart, it didn't cut nicely. It was such a mess, but that wasn't the worst, because we can still eat the mess. My 40th birthday cake. Buttercream frosting made to look like fondant. The bow on top is fondant. Not only was it a beautiful cake, it was also so delicious! The cake was yellow cake bottom tier was vanilla custard w/ chocolate chips, middle tier was yellow cake with chocolate custard, top tier was the same as the bottom tier. Hands down one of the best birthday cakes I ever had. The cake was super moist flavor was great. The bakery sent along an extra cake box for the top tier to take home. I have been eating Valencia cakes since I was old enough to remember. The cakes are delicious and having two kids now, I still order birthday and special occasion cakes. I always ordered from the main bakery or factory located in Edgewater. I really thought all the other stores will have the same customer service. Was I wrong. I wanted to order a cake for baby shower but when i got to the Edgewater location they were closed. I knew there was a nearby store on 138th Street, so I went their to place my order. The manager told me he was able to order the cake but to send him an email of exactly what I wanted and that will give him time to speak to his boss who prices out the cakes. He also informed me that I will just need to leave a deposit and then pay the balance once cake was finished and ready to be picked up. The next day I emailed him my order with all the color and filling choices. he calls me to let me know he spoke to his "boss" and based on what I wanted will charge me $144.50. I informed him I have to think about the price as it was higher than I expected. When i finally call him, I trimmed down some of the design but he still inform me that the cake will be $10.00 less. The cake was a small cake. So I decided it was worth it so I stated I will go ahead and purchase. He then tells me I have to pay the full amount today and has to be by credit card. From past experience I know when ordering a specialty cake, one can leave a deposit and pay the remaining balance later. He then told me it was because the "boss" had people ordered cakes and not picked up and that he has people ordering from CT so no one else is complaining. I couldn't believe this "manager: works for Valencia bakery. The cakes are delicious but the attitude of this manager is not! That is why I had to review and give such low stars. If I ever order a cake from them again I will always go to the one located in Edgewater, where they still take deposits and have a much nicer attitude and never step foot at the one located in 138th Street. read more

I'm sorry, but the cakes are just not that great. My family raves about the place, but the reality is that it doesn't even measure up to a Whole Foods cake. I find the pineapple filling to taste artificial (and you can see from their ingredients that the filling is processed). The cake was dry despite it being made "fresh" that morning. I only have good things to say about the Valencia bakery! I lived in the Bronx and now I have lived in Brooklyn for 30+ years and still travel back to Valencia to get my cakes! I got there one Sunday when they were closing and the owner opened up the gates for me so I could buy my cake. Because of that I bought two cakes! The pineapple cake is unlike any other cake in this world and is very delicious! I don't know where I would go if they were not there! The prices are great also.
