Obviously there's no actual pharmacy here since it's on the river level with no access to street parking. It's not even your standard CVS. Sure, they have the basics like snacks, cosmetics, etc, but what tickled me were the ducky plushies in cowboy and beaver hats. There are also post cards and $20 phone chargers, one of which I needed since I accidentally left mine at the hotel. Would I come here to buy anything otherwise? Probably not, but it was certainly worth checking out. And the cashier was also very nice. She did ask if I have a phone number with CVS (I haven't for several years now. I wonder if they ever actually close those years old inactive accounts). She also allowed me to simply use the reusable bag from the Alamo we already had with us to save the trouble. Oh and an entire aisle dedicated to Texas and San Antonio. It was a fun time. Also, the shelves could probably stand to be wiped down more. Lots of dust. And what's this? No kitty cats to greet me? Now I'm sad. :( I'd come back just to see them, and they're good for keeping rodents away. So for the cat haters out there, bear in mind they're smarter than many give them credit for as they hunt mice and birds to keep the river walk free of infestations.

Get Lucky! This is a shady convenience store in the heart…read moreof Downtown San Antonio, right down the way from the Esquire and a staircase that leads down to the river. Did you know that you can legally drink alcohol out in the open along the Riverwalk? You can't have an open container while walking around at street level, but on the river, it's all good! One option would be to get a drink at the local bars, which tends to be expensive, and they're not generally happy with you running off with their glassware. Therefore, going to Lucky's is always a good option! You can grab a quart or a tallboy here, get it in the paper bag if you insist on drinking on street level, but you don't need it for the Riverwalk! Drink up, buddy! This place seems to sell a lot of crap! They have a variety of San Antonio souvenirs- t-shirts, hats, and such. I didn't see anything I needed. When I went, there were a couple of homeless folks in here. One was buying a fake rose packaged in a glass tube, and steel wool. Hmmm... The beer was cold, but they didn't have the sizes that I'd prefer for drinking on the Riverwalk. Buying a six pack rarely makes sense when you can keep buying individual beers, since the six-pack will get warm in the Texas heat quickly. There are better options around here for what you wanna get from here- there's a Walgreens down the street, and a CVS down the river. There's zero parking for this place.

I had a favor order from this location, for a pack of cigarettes (I'm 28 mind you) and the manager who was also the assisting clerk, was just OUTRIGHT RUDE AF. He was humiliating me and mocking me, while I was showing him my temporary paper ID. He wasn't going to accept the paper, I showed him a picture of my ID so he can match it the the temporary and he just kept repeating himself about not accepting anything else, and he completely denied service to me. I stayed so calm, and repeated asking in a few different sentences, of trying to understand why he was refusing service to me even though I have a copy of what the Driving department advises me to use in a time of need. Save your self the stress from dealing or interacting with these idiots, and choose a different store if not location. This man clearly is just unhappy with himself and his life, and chooses to freely create chaos and havoc into other innocent individuals he's encountering throughout his day. This man has pure evil/mean intentions and doesn't deserve to be in a job, interacting with others with his type of energy period !‍

At first I thought it was an honest mistake, but after going back in to speak to them I could tell this is something they do often. The assistant manager did not act at all like a manager and try to resolve the situation, but instead covered for her employee. They refused to review the tape or count the drawer at that time. They said they couldn't count the drawer until that night. Do not go to this store and pay with cash; they are not to be trusted and are extremely unprofessional and unethical.

Just the fancy restaurants and the tourist hotspots which don't really need a review where your review will get lost in a sea of 20,000 others. This place is super cute with a lot of great stuff and fun stuff and I've stopped in here on several occasions when coming to San Antonio, and I'm sure they will come back here on many occasions in the future. And they have the word five in their name so what rating did you think I was going to give them? This store is a dime.

I marvel at the fact that so many stores -- mere spitting distance from one of America's most…read morehistoric places (The Alamo) -- get no love, nor even attention, from Yelpers. Here is a general store across the street from a site with more than 2,500 photos, almost 1,000 reviews (and an inexplicably low 4-star composite rating) and has a paltry EIGHT reviews and 4 photos (which I'm going to double today). Maybe I just love general stores with the amalgam of touristy stuff, toiletries you forgot to bring, and temptations of the sweet and salty kind. They sum it up best with their motto, "Travel necessities. Hometown setting." First, yes, as you would expect, there is PLENTY of Alamo-related stuff. Neither cheap nor chintzy, there are plenty of Alamo t-shirts, cups, magnets, mugs souvenirs, and other ephemera at prices (at least based on my experience) a bit less expensive than at other establishments. An, if you want to show some Texas pride, there's plenty to buy to remind your friends where you're from and what state not to mess with. And yes, it has the feel with the old-time pharmacy catch-alls, from medicines and ointments to phone chargers and travel bags. The convenience of an airport gift shop without the high prices and drab formulaicness. Five and Dime ain't for the cynic. You'll find the kind of cowboy hats you'd find on a sorority girl at a Saturday night party. You'll find the kind of sombreros you have lying around awaiting the moment when your friend passes out drunk and you can place it on his head and Sharpie a Zapata-style mustache on his upper lip. Yes, there's plenty of humor in the Five and Dime collection! In the end, Five and Dime is a great store for both local and tourist alike. Their hometown philosophy can also be found at their other locations: On the San Antonio Riverwalk, on the Landing in Branson, in Old Town San Diego, Market Street in Charleston, Old Town in St. Augustine (FL), Cannery Row in Monterey (CA), River Street in Savannah (GA), and the Historic Plaza in Santa Fe. All great places, and all where I'll be making a stop at the Five and Dime when I do. See you there!
