Larder is located inside Hotel Emma in San Antonio, TX. It is not exclusive to guests of the hotel. There is easy access almost directly to the counter on the south side. Larder is an "in-house gourmet market and café." My silly girls were craving bagels for breakfast before our zoo visit on 5.25.2025. We each had a bagel plus we shared a raspberry iced donut and a blueberry cookie with macadamia nuts. One girl had a hot chocolate and the other had a very unflavorful and lukewarm cappuccino. Larder is a hit or miss for me. Sometimes I get good quality. Sometimes I don't. I have worked at the Pearl for around 3 years. Today was the Farmers Market and there's a lot of traffic. I decided to sit in Larders today with my plate of food where I was approached by the manager, I guess. Was a female, low ponytail, bangs, and lip stud on her lower lip. She told me that there was no out door food or drinks allowed. I was puzzled because no one had ever approached me in 3 years however I don't always choose to eat here. I expressed that her and she stated that they are cracking down now. I complied, "I asked if I could sit outside with my food on the patio. She apologized and said, "no". I get it. Rules are rules. However I was the only one asked to leave and there where couples with their drinks from Supper and other people with their food from the food hall- food from. We stopped into Larder while at the Harvest Night Market & Dia del los Muertos Fedtival at the Pearl Brewery. Both times, my friend and I grabbed a snack (some fruit), a gut-health "shot" from the refrigerated section and then a fun treat (they had pumpkin spice caramels). This place is a cute little store within the Hotel Emma that offers grab-n-go items as well as salads/sandwhiches/coffee. The goods are on the higher end and the prices reflect that which is to be expected. The only thing I didn't love is that they're a card-only merchant. Usually I wouldn't care, but when my bill was less than $5 for the fruit, single caramel and gut-health shot... I would've liked to use cash. Regardless, I'd visit again and would love to try one of their salads and coffees next time. read more

This was my 3rd stop at a coffee shop posting hours of operation on Friday starting at 6am (snip below). But I arrived at 6:50am to find the gate of the shop closed, and when I asked a man-cashier, he told me they were not open till 7am. Though, I told the advertised hours said 6am. He wasn't interested in finding out where this info was posted, but instead repeated again that they would be open at 7am. I told him I drove all the way as my 3rd stop and last hope to get coffee as I needed to be at work at 7am and couldn't wait longer, but he could care less and repeated again they would be opened at 7am. Loved getting coffee here. This place is like a very nice convenience store that has a coffee shop and pastries. It's like a hidden gem. Service was great! The aesthetics is great, like an old library. As far as the coffee, I have high standards for lavender lattes and they really met my expectations. Good coffee, slightly unfortunate name. I've been to Larder a couple of times--once for a cup of coffee, and another for a tasty lunch. The staff is pretty friendly and it also doubles as a small convenience store (albeit more expensive than your local Valero). Their lemonade is perfect for a hot day, and the sandwich was super filling. I only managed to eat half before taking the rest home. And the thing I was most excited to eat later? This MASSIVE fudgy brownie. It was one of those perfect brownies that reminded me of a gourmet Little Debbie brownie. Dense. Fudgy. In need of a cigarette and a nap afterward. Coffee shops are not a revolutionary idea, especially when you're traipsing about at The Pearl. But out of towners (or even staycationers) staying at Hotel Emma can't go wrong picking up a fine brew and treat at Larder. read more

Been to the Pearl countless times and I finally stepped foot inside this grocery store connected to Hotel Emma. During these times only 10 customers allowed at a time and mask is required. They sell toilet paper here and some produce. They have some cheeses and wines as well. This is a fine grocery place so the goods are pricey and boujee. They have outside seating which is nice and it was not crowded at all. We took some lunch and bought coffee from here and ate in their patio pavilion. read more

I'm a sucker for beautiful gourmet markets. Larder at Hotel Emma is no exception. The cozy space offers two narrow stories of wines, Texas honeys, desserts, pre-made salads, fresh local juices and more. Fun fact: this is the first hotel in Texas to boast an in-house journey market (they even sell pre-made picnics!). The fun thing about this location is that it's wedged equidistant between several of the key San Antonio attractions like the Japanese Gardens, Grotto, Alamo and Breckinridge Park. One more note about the in-house market-- it's the old fermenting cellar of Pearl Brewery. DO NOT leave Larder without popping your head into the Hotel Emma lobby. Nice little shop with very welcoming and attentive employees. I bought a spinach quiche, some biscuits with aged cheddar, and a mixed greens salad. I was just roaming around looking after buying some ice cream at Lick. It is a very cool design and looks to serve people who live at the Pearl Brewery and guests at the Emma Hotel. The design looks something from Harry Potter where there is dark colors and a balcony with store items. Larder is a great alternative to the Pearl Food Hall, and frankly, I'm pretty sure everything here is healthier as well save for the vegan friendly Good Kind. Plus, they are puppy friendly to the extent that Miss Ridley pretty much knows every single person that works here now. Good dog! But obviously you care more about the products than whether my puppy feels comfortable, and I can respect that. So for breakfast they have some pretty good takes on salmon and avocado toast. They make a decent Cuban for lunch. I like to pick from their prepared foods which usually consist of some antipasto and pastas. Don't want prepped food? They got some solid beers, an interesting selection of frozen food, and even some novelty meats and cheeses. This isn't a huge selection, but it's enough if you need to make some quick additions to a picnic in the Pearl. This is my new favorite low-key lunch spot. It's in the gorgeous Hotel Emma, a quiet weekday respite not far from my office. My hubby and I like to meet here, order lunch at the counter, and eat in Sternwirth next door. At night, it's a busy cocktail bar, in the day, it's usually mostly empty with lots of room to sprawl out on the couches or sit an the communal table with your laptop. You can even play pool after you eat! They have a sandwich/ chips/ topo Chico lunch combo for $11, a pretty good deal considering the quality. Every sandwich I've had is amazing. The chicken avocado wrap and olive oil tuna salad sandwich are probably my favorites. My hubby loves the PB and J, which comes with very fancy artisan nut butter and homemade jelly, plus bananas. It's freaking delicious but I consider it more of a dessert than lunch. I think the excellent bread they use is the key to the gourmet freshness on all their sandwiches. You can choose from several flavors of kettle chips (I'm all about the jalapeño) and for those of you that don't know, Topo Chico is a brand of Mexican sparking water and the lime flavor is delish. The only coffee I've had is their famous pecan pie latte, which is amaaaahzing. You seriously need a spoon to eat it. The store part of Larder is niche and overpriced, but what do you expect, it's in a luxury hotel. I'm sure it's a fun place for foodie tourists to check out, though. read more
