We highly recommend Valex Construction. They did amazing work with remodeling our kitchen and two bathrooms. We had a tight 3 month timeline because we had a baby on the way and we needed to stick to the budget. Our job had several complexities, including moving a toilet, moving walls, relocating an exterior doorway, switching from a gas to an induction range, and navigating some tricky permitting issues with some old construction that had been done by the prior owners. Valex did an amazing job, and they were enjoyable to work with. Despite the tight timeline, they took the time to do things right and we couldn't be happier with the end result. We were able to move back in before the baby arrived and we're so excited to be in our new space. After the remodel, they checked in several times and offered to come back to touch up small details where we had feedback. It took a long time to find Val and Konstantin to remodel our mid century kitchen and bathroom, but it was worth it. We saw Valex Construction on BuildZoom, but by coincidence neighbors down the street had hired them during the previous year. The neighbors were happy with the experience and we got a chance to see the work up close before we started. Our final product was just as good. This was our first time doing a remodel and they made it pretty painless. Even Val's estimate was clean and descriptive, which inspired confidence. They were good about talking us through the process and our numerous questions; offering suggestions when we didn't know what direction to take; and listening when we pushed back on certain plans (or when we asked for things that were in restrospect a little wild). They did their best to satisfy us while being efficient. They were prompt communicators at any time of day which was impressive. They're also just cool guys to work with. Their small crew was pretty effective. There were a couple of long delays due to a shipping problem on our end. We ended up overlapping with Valex's other projects and it threw off the original schedule. This drew the process out months longer than we'd expected, but I don't fault Valex for this. The end result was even better than we'd expected. Special shoutout to Oleg, the tile guy who painstakingly matched the sizes of two different tiles to make them look perfect together. We renovated our kitchen and bathroom in Outer Sunset with Valex Construction. It was pretty tough because we decided to do a renovation with a newborn thinking it would be easy (which it isn't!) but Konstantin and Val made it easier for us. They were very responsive, communicative, and really cared about our project. The first time I met Val for the quote, I instantly felt like I could trust him. I had interviewed around 7 other companies before deciding to go with Valex and had the best gut feeling about them. The project came in at the exact price that was quoted, and they even helped me out with small projects around the house for no extra charge which was really kind. They went above and beyond the scope of work, all for a competitive price. I made their life easier by pre-purchasing all of the finish materials and worked with Valex to confirm that the materials would work well for my space. I was able to find most of the materials from wholesalers such as East Star Building Supply and New Art Kitchen & Bath, which saved me thousands on the project. Overall I'm really happy with the final result. All of the San Francisco building inspections were passed on the first go-around and Konstantin did a great job with scheduling the inspections to line up with the work so there was no downtime on the project. This is a long overdue review for Valex - Val, Konstantin, and the rest of their team worked on a double bath/kitchen remodel for us last summer, and they were wonderful! We got several bids for the project, and Val immediately impressed us with his detailed cost estimate and friendly, easygoing, yet professional demeanor. Both Val and Konstantin were really helpful in making suggestions to improve the project while still allowing us to make the decisions--and it helps that they know the houses well in our neighborhood, the Sunset. It was Konstantin's idea to divide our very large bathroom + water closet into two bathrooms, which has worked wonderfully, increasing the functionality and the market value of our home. We had heard horror stories about remodels going way over time and over budget; Val and his team were exactly on target for both. As others have mentioned, they use WhatsApp to keep you apprised of every facet of the project and how things are progressing, and they check with you about everything, so there are no surprises. By the end of our project, Val, Konstantin, Karen, and Moises felt like family. I was almost sad to have it be over (!) but thrilled with the results... and since SIP has begun, so grateful to have a nice space at home. Konstantin and the Valex team did an incredible job on our gut kitchen renovation. We had them take out part of a wall for our design and everything else down to the studs. They also moved a gas line for us and put in all new electrical to replace the old, questionable wiring. They worked with us to put in under cabinet outlets that met building code requirements (we did quartz slab backsplash that we didn't want to cut into). Every step of the way they were wonderful to collaborate with and bring our ideas to life in both a practical and beautiful way. This being our first renovation, we were a bit nervous, but I was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly it all went. It's such a joy to walk into this space now. Update: Another horrible experience resulting from poor workmanship. 5+ years ago Konstantin sub-contracted an HVAC contractor to install a radiant heating system in our ground floor remodel. Konstantin was the General Contractor for this remodel. The sub-contractor Konstantin hired installed a tankless water heater to supply water to both the radiant heating system AND the house potable water supply. (Tankless water heaters are not made for radiant heating - but Konstantin should've know that.) A back flow valve wasn't installed to separate the water flow between the radiant heat system and potable water, which posed an immediate health hazard. Furthermore, a poor quality tankless was used which stopped working 2 years after install and that company went bankrupt. After spending $2k+ to install another tankless for the house water supply, the immediate health issues were remedied. We are now spending another $5k to install a proper boiler for the radiant heating system to provide heat to the ground floor. They also moved our forced air hvac, which caused a couple rooms in the house to get a trickle of heat through the vents. In addition the hvac was incorrectly rerouted so it constantly short cycles. (That's another repair we need to complete because of him.) A contractor who is concerned with their reputation would return and correct their mistakes; but that never happened. read more

I highly recommend Val, Konstantin and team to deliver high quality, reasonable priced outcomes on your next project. We recently wanted to renovate a full and half bathroom in a tight timeframe while my young family was away in Michigan. This was my first time hiring contractors as I normally do the work myself. After talking to multiple contractors, I met Val and Konstantin. Even before their quote (which was very competitive), I knew I wanted to work with them. They were honest and realistic and even pushed back on things I thought about doing that other contractors did not. I knew that they would help me reduce risk and limit the number of surprises, including navigating the complexities of an old home and permits in SF. During the project, my family and I were remote. Val and Konstantin kept ed us proactively informed sending weekly pics of progress and calling me for quick questions. We used Valex when our roof had a substantial leak and our kitchen and basement needed wall and ceiling repairs and new flooring. First, they responded and showed up gave us a quote quickly. Once they had us scheduled, they were on time and reliable. When little things came up they listened and found time to come back and take care of it. Their price was fair, and they made sure the job was finished. Even when they did the basement flooring, they went above and beyond what I expected, and even went all the way under cabinets and appliances, under the toilet and sink, and into the closet. This was all a pleasant surprise when I went to replace some of the cabinets a year later. What makes them most amazing is the speed at which they finished. They completed the flooring in a day, while a different contractor had taken 6 days to lay the same flooring in an adjacent room with fewer corners. read more

We chose Valex from about 5 bids to do our unit and our downstairs neighbor's unit (it's a two unit building in the Sunset and we all wanted the same work done at the same time). We added a bathroom, gutted the kitchen and took down a wall in both apartments. In our apartment, we also updated the electrical and replaced many of the windows. I simply cannot say enough good things about Val and Konstantin and the rest of the team. I was 5 months pregnant when the work started and it was finished when I was 8 months pregnant- and shockingly, the least stressful part of the entire ordeal was working with Valex. They responded to every call, text and inquiry immediately, helped guide us through suggestions big and small (including stopping at Home Depot/Lowe's whenever we needed something picked up) and talked us through anything we didn't understand. Which was a LOT. There are many, many stressful situations that can come up when you are doing an extensive renovation. And looking back to 9 months ago (when the work was finished), I can't think of a single situation where Valex was the cause of any of our stress. It was always something else-- we ordered the wrong refrigerator and didn't run it by Val first (our fault), the backsplash tiles we picked out didn't look great with our floors (our fault, and Val even found a weekend tile guy to put up new tiles that we liked more, which could have driven anyone crazy). They are also great in dealing with new situations. I wanted an absurdly large custom farmhouse sink, and it in no way was intended for the cabinets we had ordered. But Val figured it out (somehow). We also wanted to move back in before the work was truly done, and they found a way to get one of the bathrooms completely finished before anything else so that was possible. Amazing. They are also extremely hard working. We had frequent evening meetings where we all met at the house to review what was coming up next, and the entire team works every Saturday. So you are getting 6 days of work done a week. Val is freakishly organized. Just a random thought. He documents everything. And he will create a WhatsApp channel for you and your family so you can track every single interaction with pictures etc. Ironically, Valex was our lowest bid. We thought that meant we'd be dealing with longer timelines and higher stress levels, but it was truly the opposite. We have now recommended Val and the team to several sets of friends, and we will be using them on all future projects as long as they still have time for us! read more

As you can tell from my previous reviews, I am kinda picky. As it relates to VALEX, I couldn't be happier. We had Valex design a new kitchen, remodel 2 bathrooms, completely paint the interior and ceilings of our home, and create a new living room with custom fireplace. Their attention to detail in all jobs including the demo,plumbing, gas-line, tilework, appliance install, and clean up was meticulous and all to code. I received several bids on the house project from other contractors and was surprised how unprofessional some of them can be, with a kinda "take it or leave it attitude." Not with VALEX, they were ultra-professional, they were super courteous and accountable. If a change was needed, VALEX quickly got it done and was super polite and hospitable during the process. Val worked on our initial quote and is a friendly guy who aims for customer satisfaction, he was super honest through the whole job and gave helpful recommendations on design ideas. Their Contractor, Constantin is a mathematical whiz as he can compute quickly specifications to code and is a real craftsman that can fix or build anything we wanted. And this year when I was remodeling my bathroom the new contractor found that he took all the new electrical connections tapping from the existing one rather than running a new wire.so the load is more and there is fire hazard. To confirm this I called three more electricians to check his work. This review is way past overdue! I would like to thank Val, Konstantin and the crew for a great job with our remodeling and the patience with us last year! My husband and I never had any experience in remodeling process. After explaining our plans to Val, he literally walked us through the process of obtaining permit - that we needed an engineer and an architect to proceed. That road was very bumpy with stops, turns and delays and we were worried that our contractor would start another project... But they were so understanding and patient with us, Val came to our meetings with the engineer to make sure everybody was on the same page! All our phone calls and emails were answered same day, even at times late in the night due to our work schedule! And once the work began, Konstantin and his guys weren't just doing the job - they really cared what would work best for us - recommended us which stores to go and things to get and at times they would get supplies picked up by themselves! They also got us registered on WhatsApp for communication which works great - with picture updates as well:) Our remodeling was completed on time as we discussed at the beginning which is a huge plus! My wife and I bought a house which was in need of some renovations involving bath and kitchen remodeling. I have met with a lot of contractors and was getting confused and frustrated because people weren't consistent, prices were all over the place and waiting for them to get back to us with estimate was driving me crazy. Then my wife found Valex Construction and Val came in to assess and got back with estimate within a few days, no hidden cost, answered all our questions (and believe my wife has a lot of questions!), adjusted the estimate based on our needs. Valex was recommended by our friend who just completed their kitchen. Konstantin remodeled our master bath's shower (tile and fixtures). He came in for the job walk on a weekend (at our convenience), made some measurements and recommendations and came up with the scope/estimate a few days later. We have changed the scope a bit prior to construction and even during the construction and he was very flexible with it. He made his recommendations on materials.
