It only took one visit to realize this would be my go-to bar if I lived in Tulsa. With its neat industrial looks, dim lighting, chalk-scrawled menu and impressively-curated music playlist (yes, I grabbed my phone to Shazam that ish), Valkyrie is the kind of place that inspires a curious stranger to become a loyal regular. The open layout makes what could be a gussied-up bar much more approachable - and with a beverage menu catering to craft beer lovers, cocktail connoisseurs and wine buffs, no adult is left behind. Personally, I found most enjoyment in the craft beer selection. St. Bernardus Abt 12? I love to love ya, and you can bet that my posterior will be parked on a Valkyrie bar stool next time I'm in Tulsa. This unique little lounge is in a nice area of town. I liked how it was set up, very communal seating and great for groups. I left my wallet that had my ID with my friend who was coming to meet us here. When I told the bartender he was fine with it for the most part but asked me two more times where they were over a 15-minute period. He kind of freaked out after the last time despite being told by multiple other people, which he knew personally, that I was well over 21. I understand this implications legally, but he could have been more mature. Luckily they came about 60 seconds after this but he didn't handle the situation well at all. I probably would have liked the bar more but how he handled that situation left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Stumbled in here on a Sunday night after a concert and was very impressed. Not only were the staff very knowledgeable about their craft, they were also a delight to be around. We planned to stop in for one drink and ended up staying till close discussing classic cocktails. The prices are a bit high but I can understand why- these aren't your average McCormicks and soda kind of drinks... they're more like art. Almost too pretty to drink. So if you're wanting a cheap drink to get you drunk there's other bars, but if you're wanting a great experience and a tasty concoction then this is the place for you! read more

Valkyrie was one of my first stops after moving to Tulsa from New York. I had my favorite few bars in the city and knew that I was going to miss them terribly So, I sought out somewhere that would feel like home. Needless to say the search listing was pretty short. I only came up with a handful of places to check out and all of them for different reasons. My first visit to Valkyrie was disappointing. The bartender was pretentious and seemed completely uninterested in talking to me about the place and it's fine quality. I wasn't thrilled about going back after tabbing out and on the tip line I wrote "Humility"... I did go back and I'm so glad I did. The bartender that served me previously wasn't there and I had a wonderful time with my friends that I took along, not to mention excellent service. I frequent as often as I can and have yet to see the bartender from my first experience... He may have been humbled and asked to leave, who knows. Love Valkyrie it feels like home... read more

This is probably my favorite place I've been to in Tulsa so far. I love it. There are couches and booths with plenty of room for every one to relax, of course there's the bar also. The lighting and the music make this a very relaxed environment to unwind with friends. The selection of beers is fantastic. I've tried some that I had never heard of and they are rally great at cycling draughts. I have not had cocktails or liquor here but my friends have had nothing but great things to say. The bartenders and wait staff are very friendly and patient and are really great about helping you choose a drink from the lengthy menu. Something else I love about this place: the bathrooms are so clean! I find this very important in a bar due to the frequency of my trips to the lavatory. All in all, if you want to go to a great, chill bar in downtown Tulsa, this is definitely the first place I would go. I will certainly be returning again and again! read more

so disclaimer - I can't drink... I'm old enough to drink but just medically not allowed to drink. lol Anyways - my friends drink and they like this place so I join them. I love the concept - choose 3 adjectives - get a hand crafted drink. They recently had a small remodel and removed the chalkboard beer list and put up more rows and rows of liquor shelves. They have a ladder, similar to the old-school tall libraries, and will even mix a drink while on the ladder! The drinks are a little on the small side but the glasses are all different. From what my friends say, the love the unknown and the surprise of the drink order. The mixologists/bartenders will remake a drink if you don't like the outcome of your adjective choice - and will answer any questions you have. I love the atmosphere/ambience - several three-sided partition walls are filled with a U-shaped couch so a large group or several small groups can easily fit in one of the sections. read more

Anytime anyone asks me about a great place to visit for drinks, I always say Valkyrie. This is a comfortable little pub near the corner of Brady and Main. It is always very clean inside and out. When you walk up to the door, you can smell the mixtures of syrups they have made. I love this! The owner is very nice and is often found working at the bar. The bar is very modestly decorated and I like this. They have used the character of the space to make it cozy. There are tables and bar seats as well as a few couches to have those intimate talks with your significant other. ;) The music is always kept at a comfortable level and pretty agreeable with the mood of the night. The menu is seasonal but you can order any drink you like and they will make it. I always go for the Moscow Mule. Perfection! Great selection of whisk(e)y. The only thing my friends and family mention is that they would like a bigger selection of beer and they are a little pricey on their drinks but I think they are comparable. read more

I keep rewriting this review because somehow my description of Valkyrie makes it sound like cocktail snob hangout, but it's not. Granted, someone very particular about mixology would love Valkyrie, the attention to detail, the obscure ingredients, and unique drink menu offerings. But I love Valkyrie because I'm not a cocktail snob and I still feel welcome there. I always find a new drink to enjoy and I usually learn something. Plus, who can resist a weekly haiku? I've got two favorite bars in Tulsa, this is one of them. I love Valkyrie for a plethora of reasons. Atmosphere, decor, the long bar with cool bar stools, etc. It has "cool" written all over it without being overly hip and snobby. Every bar tender I've come into contact with has been great and knows the crafts of bar tending. My favorite thing to do is sit at the bar and ask them to make me a "Manly" drink. We had a great time here. Exactly what I was expecting - a dark craft cocktail bar with enthusiastic bartenders and a creative menu. I ordered a Bloody Mess which included whiskey, beet, and ginger. It was wonderful. My boyfriend got a rye Manhattan, and it was very well made. It was pretty crowded, but we found a bench in the back of the bar. Ideally, we would have been able to get a better spot. We will definitely be back when we return to Tulsa. read more

Love love love! I was in Tulsa for a conference and Valkyrie was recommended to us by the hotel staff. Our group included six ladies and we walked to this bar from the Hyatt hotel. We visited on a Wednesday night, the place was clean, warm and inviting. Their menus are on large chalkboards my friends and I were ready to place an order at the bar when then attended said he'd come over to our table to visit and take orders. We found out later that our bartender was the owner of Valkyrie. While at our table he asked each of us what we liked and didn't like in terms of cocktails and spirits. Without writing anything down he thought of a different drink for each of us that was unique and fitting to out taste buds. My friends and i were so impressed with this bar, the owner and our drinks. The customer service and attending we received is the driving factor in why I'm leaving this review. I may have to make a trip to Tulsa just to come back to Valkyrie. read more

I thought about taking the approach of a compliment sandwich for this review, but decided that's for passive-aggressive corporate performance reviews. This place specializes in a constantly changing menu of craft cocktails, fancy beers and wines. No food, no real frills in decoration (outside the random posters of videogames, memes and harry potter). Everything here is pricey, except for the $3 PBR, but some of that cost is allocated to the handmade ingredients and the "time" it takes for the bartender to mix your drink. The cocktails are all interesting, but the majority of them come off as just way too sour. My one true complaint about this place and why I didn't rate higher is their stupid door policy. Above the door the fire marshall capacity clearly states 60 people. Nowhere during the night did this place even get close to capacity, but still they had the door man turning people away. The pretense for this is that they don't want the bar crowded and people rushing the bartenders, because it takes a significant amount of time for them to mix the drinks. It makes sense in theory, they want to maintain a casual low key atmosphere. But hey! Its a bar. Let people in to drink. The bartenders are able to handle it and seemed to have no trouble making two drinks in under 3 mins. read more

My husband had been here before, I had not, but wow did I love it! I will most definitely be back whenever I get the chance. I loved everything about it - the drinks, the atmosphere, the decor, the bartenders, everything. The first drink I ordered was off the menu, but bartender's choice is the way to go. Pick three adjectives of what you like in a drink and let them do their magic. You won't be disappointed! I had a traditional daquiri, which I'd really never had before (just the frozen version in a cheesy glass) and I really liked it. I also had some type of drink that was similar to a rum and coke but without any coke...yeah, great description, I know. The guy next to me ordered it and I love a rum and coke so I got one too. Really though, just tell the bartenders what you like and you'll get something unique and delicious that you might never have tried otherwise. i found out about this place due to a first friday art crawl in the brady arts district. it was a spur of the moment, me visiting this place & i was glad to check it out. they had the summer cocktail specials going on & it was a long list. interesting names of the cocktails & the mixes were appealing. the one i went with was the bahnahnana: banana-infused rye whiskey, campari bitter, carpano antica formula vermouth, cinnamon syrup & bitter truth aromatic bitters. that drink is super strong. i remember the bartender asking me if i wanted a "sipper" or a "refresher," & this was definitely a sipper. the drink was good for sure. with this being my first visit & seeing that they have seasonal cocktail lists, i'll come back to see what else they have on deck. read more

Their cocktail menu is extensive, and separated into mutliple sections depending on the kind of drink that you like. Can't find something on the menu that you like? Fun little bar downtown Tulsa. Great cocktails, friendly staff and reasonable prices. They have a decent beer menu and the place is decorated very cool and hip. Loved their wall of liquor, you can spend a long time just looking at how many bottles they have. This place is perfect for a date or to bring a group of friends to have a conversation, I loved the fact that it was not super loud, but then again I came on a Saturday at 8PM so maybe the loudness starts later. read more

If you like specialty drinks this is the place to go. The venue isn't that big but it has a very nice feel to it inside. Coming from a big city and having been to my fair share of trendy bars, I was very pleased with what I saw. This probably is the most trendiest place as far as downtown Tulsa goes. Great bar in downtown Tulsa. I really liked the seating - big booths, bar stools, or a couple of couches. The bartender was great. He greeted us with a smile and immediately took order. We had heard about their Moscow mules so we ordered them. The first thing I noticed was the ginger. I later learned they make their own ginger beer which explains why it was so prevalent. I stopped in for a couple cocktails and really enjoyed myself! Olivia and Ben were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. While I was there, I had a Mezcal Old Fashioned with the Bozal Ensamble and a Knife Fight (A Negroni w/ Mezcal) Both were really great drinks - well balanced, flavorful, and hit the spot. My favorite cocktail bar. Really cool vibe and the bartenders couldn't be any better. Usually go on the First Friday Art Crawl so I don't know how busy they are during the week. On First Friday, it can be kinda iffy whether or not you can find a place to sit down. The wall of liquor behind the bar is amazing and it's fun to sit at the bar and watch the bartenders do their stuff. My wife once ordered an absinthe drink and the bartender did the whole routine with the water pour over and absinthe spoon. I've never had an "average" drink here. It's 9:30 on Sunday night the day before Labor Day. We have a large group of family and friends who want to see why everyone is talking about the Downtown Tulsa bar scene. Our downtown savy friend suggests Valkyrie. Valkyrie is a rectangular space with a bar on the right hand side and various tables and sofas on the left had side. At 9:30 we were able to get right in and find excellent spaces for our group to gather. By 10:30 the place was packed. While we were there, one and then later two bartenders created excellent craft cocktails. Great flavors, quality liquors all mixed with care. However, this takes time. So don't come here if you are impatient. The craft cocktails were excellent and, in my opinion, an excellent value for the quality. I was however disappointed with the draft beer. It was served too warm and seemed to have been somewhat past its prime. A quick switch to a cocktail and all was well. If you want a cool place to enjoy really well made craft cocktails, Valkyrie is it. I look forward to visiting again. Thank you. read more

Great spot in the Brady District. I stopped by twice while in Tulsa for the holidays and I enjoyed it both times. It's like a hipster bar in Brooklyn that was dropped into Downtown Tulsa...without the expected drop in prices. Cocktails are all in the $10-12 range (some are maybe more?) but they're very good. I've only had a few from their very large menu but enjoyed the "speaking in tongues" the most. They're all really creative drinks that you wouldn't be able to easily recreate at home (so worth the high bar tab, in other words). I don't remember the name of it but the first drink I ordered tasted like cough syrup. Other than that, I can't complain about this welcome addition to the downtown area. read more
