It is located in an older building. I was really hungry and I could not finish all the food they provided. I had shrimp fajitas. They were very good. The chips were nice and crunchy fresh. The guacomole was good as well. The tea was great. The service was excellent. The food portions were huge. Glad I read these yelp reviews on my way back to Birmingham from Atlanta. I would definitely eat here again. They had four tvs, so I was able to watch the NFL football game on a Sunday while eating. read more

I wanted to give this restaurant 2 stars because when we stopped in we were having at least a 1 margarita day, maybe 2 after yet another horrible Talladega Nascar experience of being stuck in traffic for hours after rain cancelled the event. Most Nascar events are on Sunday and what does that mean? Well for this place it means no alcohol. Ugghhh. When we were told that I almost left and drug my wife with me, but was glad I didn't. We actually ordered one of the best fajitas we have had in a long time. Everything was tender and the 2 person portion could have served 4 if you were willing to share your rice, beans, salad and shells (no). Not sure I'll be back this way because I intend to never set foot at the Talladega race track again, but I recommend this place for those traveling through. read more

Ever since my first visit I've been dreaming of Vallarta's! There are not many local restaurants to choose from off exit 199 and this is the only Mexican place in the area. However, they don't take advantage of their corner on the market and still serve excellent food. Their salsa is especially wonderful- lots of flavor and tastes fresh. The chunky guacamole is worth a few extra dollars too, if you're hungry. I usually get their tacos because I just love chicken tacos. The meat is always juicy and salty and I always eat it too fast! The beans and rice are flavorful as well and a pleasure to eat unlike the beans and rice at other Mexican restaurants. They have a basic beer selection and I've tried their margaritas a few times. They have one called a Texan Margarita (if I remember correctly) and it has brandy along with other margarita ingredients. Boy was it good. It'll knock you off your feet if you aren't careful! The house marg is pretty basic and nothing to write home about. Staff is always friendly and bathrooms clean. Can't wait to go back. read more

Stay far far way from this place. Food quality has taken a drastic downgrade in the last year or so. They have also begun to charge you for a whole new drink after the first refill. Their menu says 3 refills but your initial drink counts as refill #1. So you only get 1 refill before you pay for another whole drink. Then if you ask for a few chips to-go they charge you almost $4 for to-go chips. This on top of a $60-$70 bill every time. The servers are also rude and act like it's an inconvenience that you have gone in there. So help them out with this inconvenience that their customers cause and don't go. There are much much better Mexican restaurants in the area. Los Mexicanos two exits up is a much better option. For food and service alike. Avoid Vallarta at all costs. read more

Loved this restaurant! It's a cute little place off of an exit. My family and I were on our way to Atlanta when we got hungry and decided to give this place a try. I saw that it had glowing yelp reviews so I was pretty excited. When we arrived, the staff were very nice. From beginning to end, our waiter catered to our every need and was very courteous. One of my favorite things at Mexican restaurants are the chips and salsa, A+ for getting us more chips and salsa within a minute of us running out! When you open the menu, it is absolutely gigantic. It's only 2 pages back and forth, but it's filled with a giant amount of text. There are a lot of options, but I ended up settling for a burrito+enchilada+rice and beans combo. It was only 9 dollars and was great! I do, however, wish I asked to have either the burrito or enchilada changed to chicken cause they load them up with a giant amount of ground beef. My parents shared a shrimp fajita plate which was really good also. Cute place, great staff, extremely clean bathrooms. This place deserves a 5 read more

Being right off the interstate you would not expect good food, but at Vallarta's you can find not only good food, but also great service, fast ordering, and a family atmosphere. I have always been seated immediately and it takes minutes for my food to get to the table. The servers are all very nice and accommodating to any order change. This is a great little Mexican place and right off I-20 so no fighting traffic or large crowds usually but it is a local favorite so Friday and Saturday nights get a little busy. Never really had a bad meal here. The wet Burrito is good as well as the fajitas. read more

Stopped in for a quick dinner while driving back to Birmingham from out of town. We ordered the chicken fajitas and they were so delicious! My fiancé and I both agreed they were the best fajitas we had eaten from a Mexican restaurant. They were seasoned perfectly and came with onions and green and red bell pepper. Typically when we eat fajitas at other restaurants, the chicken is dry and not flavorful. That was not the case here! Also, the server we had, Nick, was excellent! He was very friendly and we had wonderful customer service. We were in and out in half of an hour, which was perfect since we had over an hour left to drive home. I wish they were closer to home--we would definitely come here often! We will for sure come back next time we travel through town. read more

This is the best decision we made on our road trip to B'ham! Good Mexican, great server, well done drafts and margs. We chose this restaurant just as our hunger set in on the road - as the sun began to dip in the sky, our hanger began to rise in the car. It started out well. I was seated right away, and given a few minutes to look over the menu before the server came back to take my order. The noise was incredibly annoying. They had music playing through the speakers, but also had the TV on with the volume turned up too high. Add to this the loud conversations the staff and their family members were having and it was far too much. My drink was long empty before I ever saw the server to get a refill. This place use to be absolutely awesome. I came here with my family for years. I moved away 5 years ago. I came back last year and it was still good. We recently stopped in and OMG what a change. The food was not even nothing near Mexican food. It was almost insulting they call that Mexican food. The food was not fresh. Nothing made from scratch. The tortillas were old and hard which were store bought. The Tamale was Sysco crap. The salsa was as if you poured it from a Walmart Salsa jar. The beans were can bean. The rice was boxed rice. The enchiladas were old and horrible. It was really sad. I thought the world of the owners who are no longer around. It's obvious someone ran their business into the ground. What made them successful no longer exists. We live in California and have real Mexican food. Maybe locals that don't know Authentic will like it. To us it was Taco Bell anymore. read more
