Delightful experience with a meal my wife picked up on her way home from work today. Let me back up. On Sunday we were returning from a trip to the mountains and happened to pass by the new Vallarta Supermarket on E. Orangeburg. I told my wife that I would wager that they had good food, knowing that there was a substantial investment and that it seemed as a casual observer that this was a fine addition to our city. When she brought home the dinner (see pictures), she was quite excited with the price, service, selection, and layout of the place. Basing this review merely on the ready-made food they have. We ordered the pozole, caldo de res, and albondigas de res to eat. Also got the champurrado and the arrow con leche. For all the soups, it came with the toppings, ir. Onion cilantro lemon and/or tortillas. The pozole was rather good, had really good flavor. Meat was cooked nicely. The albondigas tasted good but the broth itself could have been better. The same goes for caldo de res. The champurrado we didnt care for. Had a weird taste. We ordered the larger size but ended up throwing it out. Arrow con leche tasted as expected. I had a bad experience at this location. I buy tamales every other week for work, usually Chicken with Green sauce. I just bought 6 to take to work this week and they were horrible! The meat was Burnt and super dry! It was disappointing and very disgusting. The manager Maricella was very rude and not understanding. They have everything and then some. homemade tortilla station. guacamole, Juices, drinks, tamales, bakery, fish, cheese, meat , flowers & even a sushi station!! clean and beautiful. So exciting to have a Vallarta in east Modesto. They have a vast and incredible assortment of Latin American food and other goods. Great service, festive vibe and very busy. You will also find hard to get items so my find today was mamonzillos. It is a Colombian fruit which looks like a cluster of little limes, you burst open the green hard skin to find a soft, tangy and sweet slimy flesh that surrounds a pit the size of a marble. There is not a lot of flesh in this fruit but you save the seeds and roast them and add a little salt and they are nutty and delicious. I also found Postobon Apple soda which was one of my favorite sodas as a kid. This place is a vibe and very cool. Great service and awesome anchor to this shopping area. read more

If you're looking for a Mexican supermarket, this is your place in Modesto. I tried the fresh squeezed orange juice and it tasted really good and it was a good size. then I went to the food bar and I got a pork and cheese, pupusa and rice. It was really good. I am so disappointed in Vallarta Market. Although I am happy that I can find all types of Hispanic products and foods if I am looking for something unique or something in particular that I need for a special occasion. I appreciate the variety of fresh tortillas as well. I am mainly disappointed in that this store is considerably way more expensive than ANY other store around for most products or produce. Lastly, on a recent trip I forgot my bag and had to purchase 1 paper bag for the outrageous price of $1.79!!!!! Not good! I will definitely limit my trips to this place for those rare occasions that I need something unique they carry. I will continue to go to Winco, Raleys or Safeway for my weekly groceries! read more

My first experience was horrible. I heard about the juice bar having an awesome selection of fruit juices. As I approached the counter, team member asked me what I would like. As I told her that I wanted a carrot, orange, and beat juice, Iris completely me ignores as something across from her caught her attention and gets on the speaker phone to call a team member to the island. I patiently waited for her to finish, then she walks away, completely ignoring me and leaving me shocked as she completely ignored me. Another team member eventually took my order, but I mentioned what I experienced was incredibly read but she shrugged it off. The location itself was big and full of different items, but quite a bit more expensive than Costless. both times i grabbed their smoothies they looked appetizing but the taste was bitter and unpleasant i hate returning things but i couldn't even take a second sip i got the mangonada and the encanto de fresa. wouldn't recommend their smoothies, but so far their waters have been good. read more

This is a horrible store! No customer service! I'm a 66 handicap woman and asked for help to take 2 40 water bottle cases to my car! Was told they had no one. By a young girl at self check out! So I went grocery shopping on Tuesday and I walked around the whole store. I got some stuff on sale like the Guerrero tortillas for $3.99 that has 100 tortillas. Most of the stuff I got was on sale. But tell me why I spent a little over $200 on 3 bags of groceries. I didn't have a full cart. The most expensive item was the chuck roast, $48 for 2 pieces of it. I only went to see how much I would spend on less groceries compared to Costless. Damn!! I get more groceries at Costless than I did at Vallarta . I was told not to shop there because everything is pretty pricey. But I wanted to compare prices. Lesson learned. I didn't get anymore Chicharron carnudo. Vallarta has a very good selection of fruit and vegetables. The meat looks great. But they are expensive to shop there. At Costless I can spend about $125-$140 and leave with 5-6 bags of groceries. read more

Vallarta is an amazing new and fresh addition to Orangeburg. The employees are beyond nice and respectful, when asking for advice on certain items, I was spoken to with kindness and genuine responses. The building itself is very clean, obviously well taken care of and stocked perfectly with not only ready to eat foods but also an extremely wide variety of groceries, almost anything you could possibly need could be found here and very decently priced as well. I don't speak any Spanish at all but don't be deterred if you don't! Most if not all employees appear to be fluent in both so you should have no problem finding whatever you need. As far as selection they have your standard grocery store sections with a huge variety of fruits and vegetables, cakes and pastries, and meat and seafood, and floral all in their own sections. The also have dedicated sections for tortillas, sushi, Mexican candies, fresh cut fruit, and agua frescas and freshly blended fruit juices. It's probably my favorite grocery store in East Modesto and also is beautiful inside, very brightly decorated and has its own vibe. I highly recommend and I'm glad we've got one so close to me. read more

Im in here all the time and so far so good. They have a great variety of things. My only complaint is that they need to rotate the old pan/bread out...don't leave it until the next morning. Donate the not-so-fresh bread to the many senior places around that area or offer them at a deep discount at after 6. Please take this advice...have purchased stale stuff twice, by accident? I wanted to really like this place since it's a New Mexican grocery store. I called the store and asked if they had prime arrachera for my carne asada, they said yes so I decided to take a trip. I came in excited to try it but I couldn't find the prime arrachera and when I asked they said the CHOICE meat was prime. I looked around for the rest of the ingredients needed. I decided to give it a try but when I returned to the counter the lady was cleaning using chemicals with gloves on and decided it was a good idea to use the same gloves to handle the meat. FOR FOOD SAFETY CONCERNS I decided to not purchase meat here. I'll have to give them a 1 Star for their food safety practices and advertising lower quality meat at PRIME. read more

On Friday, I really enjoyed the floral area customer service. My buddy asked me for a favor to pick up some flowers for him to deliver to his girlfriend. He's one of my best friends and I told him why not. When I approached to the floral area, there was a lady named. Sarai I think forgive me for misspelling her name. But she was busy unpacking flowers on the floor when I approached. I asked her if she could tell me which roses were the freshest between the pink and the red. She gave me a good suggestion afterwards I had told her if she could wrap three bunches up for me. She was very kind. Got to it right away, wrapped them in the color I asked for and also asked if I wanted to add a butterfly on top, she gave me the option to choose and so I picked out a brown one. I love this market! It's been fun watching it being built, morphing from Raleys into a beautiful Vallarta. The vibe in this place is friendly & fun. A bit on the pricier side, but hey! I can find quality stuff here. It's clean & very well lit. I've had their tamales, but I'd better watch my waistline! I like to chill out wandering up and down the aisles discovering unfamiliar products. They sell other ethnic foods too, like sushi. There's a corner up front with a few tables & chairs for "dining in". Now that the grand opening hysteria has died down a bit it's easier to find a place to park. Purchase some chicken marinated drumsticks, put them in the oven and I kind of noticed an odor, but when I took them out and we went to eat them, they had the most nastiest smell smelt like fish odor, and we seriously spit it out the chicken had a weird taste to it. They were not good at all. Seems spoiled rotten and then the same day. Also bought some pastries and go home and start eating them. They're stale very old. I'll be avoiding this store. read more

I was checking out and I only got about 4 small items. The girl checking my items out name was Estefani H. She asked how many grocery bags I wanted to buy. So I obviously told her one. And instead of bagging my 4 small groceries she just placed the bag on top of my stuff and I was caught off guard so I started bagging it myself while she's trying to give me my receipt rushing me. Just felt so weird I thought grocery store workers bagged ur items even if it was 4 small things. I don't mean to sound spoiled but I have traveled to many countries and you can always count on America for experiences like that. Never had that happen to me before.
