    Chips and salsa
    Camille L.

My mom and I stopped here for lunch. I was craving real Mexican food.... needless go say, not a fan of this place. We were sat by whom I assume was one of the owners. His demeanor was very crass. His mask was not covering his nose, he appeared to be in a rush to take our order. I got the t-bone with black beans and salad, my mom asked for a Chardonnay with steak fajitas. My t-bone was so dry! I also never got black beans like I asked, and the salad came with no dressing. When I asked for olive oil and vinegar, he handed me Italian dressing?! Yuck! My mom was served a merlot instead of a Chardonnay, and her fajitas didn't come in a sizzling plate. At this point, I just wanted to leave. We ate a little and then left. The one good thing was their chips and home made salsa. The wife, who was also working there was way more polite and nicer to deal with.

This was a wonderful restaurant and experience! The staff was friendly and super attentive! The food was great, even for our family members who don't love Mexican food!!! We will definitely be back here again!!!!

    Chicken Taco Salad

The salsa was a bit too spicy for me. Not even a hint of cilantro. The chicken taco salad was okay but the beans must have soaked in salt for a week and the guacamole was overly spicy too. Prices were reasonable, service was good. Environment was noisy with only one other couple there due to employees yakin up a storm.

    Cheese burritos and rice.

Rude people running it, terrible margaritas, and food is ok at best. Much better options in the area.

My family and I were hungry and are also TexMex lovers, so we had to stop in. We all agreed this place was great! We ordered fajitas and two quesadillas (chicken and cheese only). The quesadillas were probably the best I've ever had, and the fajitas were delicious. Everything was seasoned on point. Service was great. Very attentive and made sure we always had chips and our beverages filled. Food also came pretty quickly, especially considering they were pretty busy. The restaurant is also decorated very nicely! It had a really cute bar, and I loved the salsa bar!! Prices were reasonable, as well. If you like good Mexican you MUST try this place out. You can thank me later ;)

They brought over waters and a complimentary bean/cheese dip. My husband ordered a margarita the size of his head; he loved it! The decor was really pretty and had a lot of local artwork. I got steak and shrimp fajitas and they were great! My son enjoyed some ribeye tacos and rice and beans. My husband had the chimichanga and also loved it. Our server was so sweet and helpful. The salsa bar was such a fun addition to the experience. Very cool place!

The woman on the phone spoke broken English (which only makes sense considering the current state of our border to the south). I ordered the lunch fajitas. I was specific about beef, and I specifically said Carne Asada. After I picked up my order, I had a few phone calls come in, so I did not witness my food until about 45 minutes later. The only part of the order that they got right was my small side of guacamole. Other than that, they completely botched the order! WTF?!?Mind you by the way, when I entered the restaurant, it was completely dead, aka EMPTY. There was absolutely zero reason for the kitchen to "F" this up. The only reason I gave two stars is because the food looks OK. I have not even tasted it yet. Oh yeah, they forgot the rice too! Seriously?!?!? I doubt this will occur, but TO THE OWNERS... you guys should have kept the original restaurant you had before this. Foggy Rock it was called?? It was great! The appetizer trout tar tar, or whatever it's called was amazing! Sucks that's gone now. Boone/BR already has enough quality Hispanic restaurants. Cut your losses and let this one go.

Without reservations we were seated outside without a wait, I'd recommend making a reservation though. We split a NY Strip medium, a baked potato with all the fixings, & creamed spinach. Looking forward to our next opportunity to sneak away from the kids and have a steak at Stonewalls.

Stonewalls Restaurant was one of the more pleasant surprises during my time in Banner Elk. It's a…read morebeautiful restaurant, and I had been looking forward to dining there for quite some time. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive. The atmosphere, however, felt a little mixed. The restaurant seemed to have two distinct personalities. The newer side, where the bar is located, felt polished and cohesive, while the older dining room--where we were seated because it had more availability--felt like it hadn't quite received the same attention. The lighting on that side of the restaurant was particularly harsh, which made the dining room feel less intimate than it could have been. Since it's also the larger and busier dining space, I think small touches like candles on the tables or softer lighting would go a long way toward creating a warmer, more personal atmosphere. I also noticed an interesting contrast between the beautiful leather-bound menus and some of the furniture and wall décor, which felt more reminiscent of a hotel dining room than the upscale mountain restaurant the food suggested. Thankfully, the meal more than made up for those observations. I ordered the wild mushroom pasta with lobster, and it was the standout dish of the evening. The pasta was rich without feeling heavy, the mushrooms added wonderful depth, and the lobster was cooked beautifully. It's a dish I'd gladly order again. My boyfriend ordered a steak, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We also started with the escargot and the crab cakes. The escargot, while not quite on the level of some traditional French restaurants I've visited, was still very well prepared and enjoyable. The crab cakes were outstanding--full of crab, nicely seasoned, and easily one of the best appetizers of the meal. Our only complaint was that there was only one crab cake on the plate; we both found ourselves wishing there had been another. Overall, Stonewalls Restaurant delivered an excellent meal with genuinely welcoming service. While I'd love to see the older dining room updated to better match the quality of the cuisine, the food alone makes it well worth a visit if you're in Banner Elk.

We ended up coming to eat dinner here twice, in two days (vacation was over after that). The name should probably say "bistro", instead of cafe and catering, to give the correct description of this restaurant. The ambiance inside (and the food) gives you a "bistro feel"- but we sat outside at a picnic table both nights because we brought our dog with us! The staff both nights was very friendly, with the entire team pitching in to bring you drinks and food, and checking on you. The cocktails at this place were unique, and well-constructed; my favorite was similar to a tart pisco sour!! They also have a wine and beer selection. For dinner, one night I ordered the steak of the day, which was ribeye, served with asparagus and potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly, and was both juicy and tender. The second night I ordered the pasta of the day, which was casarecce pasta served with clams. The pasta was 10/10- the noodles were cooked al dente, the sauce was thick and flavorful, and nestled into each noodle really well. We also tried the snow crab and the NC oysters off the seafood menu, and the chocolate banana milkshake and the strawberry cloud/meringue off the dessert menu. All of those items were delicious (the strawberry dessert was my absolute favorite and I got it both nights). Really nothing but compliments to say about this restaurant! Every dish is flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked nicely. Highly recommend and would definitely go again if I am ever back in Banner Elk!!
