Unfortunately, it isn't shaded but the Vallejo weather was beautiful. It is $6 cash per vehicle to enter and park. The reserved area was next to a top notch soccer field, playgrounds, and the restrooms. Minus one star for their restrooms because they didn't have toilet paper or soap. Thankfully my friend came prepared with a huge bottle of sanitizer and toilet paper but I feel that the gorgeous park and grounds deserve clean restrooms with the necessities. The grass is well kept and the park was very clean otherwise. There were several trash cans but no recycling bins.

Made a stop at this cute and cozy park after attending a festival nearby this past Saturday. There…read morewas plenty of grass to stretch out a mat for picnicking and napping on this lovely day, with very few other visitors in sight. Nothing fancy about the place. There were memorial plaques and sculptures of military weaponry on display including a giant missile, a gazebo at the center, and trees of all kinds throughout. I also walked the short trail to the other side of the park, viewing WW2 bomb shelters along the way. After all, this was the first naval base on the west coast. It was peaceful with just the sounds of birds chirping, a nice spot to relax while learning a bit of history.

This is a small park, on Mare Island. It's a pleasant grassy area, with many exhibits of historical…read moreitems, many from World War II. Many of the plaques are difficult to read, having aged badly over the years. There's also a beautiful gazebo that one can visit. Probably not a diamond attraction, but a pleasant way to spend a half hour or so. I did not see any facilities here. Note that the Mare Island museum is not too far away. I've tried several local dog parks, and so far, Benicia Dog Park has had the most dogs. There's plenty of room for them to run and play, plus a little tunnel that my dog enjoys. My only concern is that the small-dog area isn't as nice or spacious as the larger-dog area. If you have a small dog, you may end up in the main area with bigger dogs, so just keep that in mind. Overall, a great park with lots of space and plenty of opportunities for dogs to socialize!

Bleacher seats were $5 and put you right next to the action. Every inning or so there was a a fan participation event (quiz or tire race). The Costco hotdog was $4 and the local Mare Island Brewing Co. beer was $5. It was a fun experience and if you have any interest in baseball or even if you don't this is worth checking out. If you go on a Saturday night game in summer you may want to sit in the right field bleachers because it's less windy and you'll get the sun until sundown. Give it a try and you'll be coming back for more.

Their sports complex is so small, they had 3 lanes open if I remember well, 2 were medium sized and one a bit larger. Only the 2 bigger lanes were being used for fast pitch Friday. They had about 20 girls participating, the parents were packed like sardines on the stairs and on the sides with the batters there was no room to walk, they have a second floor but you can't see anything unless your kids pitching. We weren't given instruction on how it would go. They throw in pitchers and catchers first, no adult was keeping count on how many at bats or ball count. The girls were guessing the ball counts/at bats. A few times the owner seemed to just switch out batters at random times and gave preference to his buddies kids. Batters pay more and batters get less time for reps.

A few helpful things to know: * $2 cover charge per person * Bring your ID no matter how old you are * Doors open at 6pm with food service and open dancing/practice time The food menu is WAY bigger than what's shown online, which was a pleasant surprise. They also have $2 beef or chicken tacos until 9pm, and overall the food-to-price value is solid. At 7pm, they start the dance lessons: * Line dancing lesson (~40 minutes) * Followed by either partner two-step or swing dancing (alternates every other week) The crowd was all ages (21+ obviously -- and let's just say I'm on the older side), all skill levels, and very beginner-friendly. I'm pretty uncoordinated, and honestly this was some of the best line dancing instruction I've had. After 9pm, lessons end/open dancez A couple practical tips: * There's really nowhere to stash your stuff, so keep it simple -- pockets or a fanny pack work great * Wear closed-toe shoes if possible unless you want your toes stepped on * No one is judging style here, which actually made it more comfortable and fun Overall: low pressure, affordable, welcoming, and a genuinely good time.
