Called up Dr. Zax's office and the appointment making process was pleasant and quick. That's where the positivity of this review ends. I also want to preface this review with the fact that I am NOT one of those people who is terrified of the dentist. I have never been afraid of any doctor. I spent nearly three hours at their office from start to finish. For a CLEANING! A Cleaning! Waited in the waiting room for a half an hour. Sat in the torture chair for an hour and a half. Waited another half an hour for the doctor to review the Grim Reaper's work. Waited ten minutes for doctor to get off of her cell phone. Listened to the doctor try to convince me for another ten minutes that I "might" have a cavity (I am 42 years old and have never had a cavity) and that I will need to come back and get it "fixed" for a few more hundred dollars. The rooms were freezing. Maybe they need to be, I don't know. The dental assistant proceeded to tell me everything that my previous dentist had done wrong in the last twenty years. Picked at my teeth with her mouth-hatchet for far longer than I've ever had anyone do in the past. My entire mouth was sore for two days (again, a first) and I had a headache for 24 hours after that appointment. The receptionist is very cheery. So thanks for that. Good music in the office too. The office rejected my wish to send my existing X-rays and pocket depth records when I called and made an appointment, requiring me to repeat testing that had already been done. The X-ray process took 40 minutes and was very painful which I am not used to in previous annual cleanings, but the hygienist was great and helped normalize that most patients say it's uncomfortable as well. She and the man who greeted me in-person at the front desk are the only reason this is not "0" stars. Dr. Attal showed little interest in my existing documentation or the urgency of my situation, which was very frustrating to me since I was experiencing pain. I was asked to schedule yet another separate appointment just to re-measure pocket depths already on file. Not every patient has the time or financial resources for repeated appointments and duplicate testing, especially when dealing with a painful gum condition requiring prompt treatment. I left feeling dismissed and no closer to the treatment I needed. I will now be driving 7 hours one way to see my previous dentist because Lalor was unwilling to provide the care I need. I would not recommend Dr. Attal to patients who come in with existing records or complex dental needs.

They are "out of network" with all insurance providers and what this means is you will need to pay out of pocket at time of service. They will invoice insurance on your behalf, and you will get reimbursed by insurance. Beware that LJBS will invoice at the full cash rate not at the agreed upon contract rate. In our case the discrepancy between full cash rate vs agreed upon contract rate amounted to $250. So not only did I need to pay $650 out of pocket for 3 kids, for a normal run of the mill dental cleaning and check up, I was only reimbursed $400 from insurance. I've lived in 3 different countries, 7 cities - I've never come across a practice where you must pay out of pocket first. So if you're ok potentially being reimbursed less for a general service that is fully covered by insurance for basic needs, the hygienist is awesome.

I was informed that they could not schedule the procedure until the insurance was confirmed (approximately 1 month) and then another 2 months to have the procedure performed. After leaving the office, a day or two later it occurred to me that they never asked for my medical insurance card so I called and they stated that I could fax it over, which I did promptly. 3 weeks passed and I hadn't heard anything, so I called the office on a Monday. I was informed that the person who does it is only there on Wednesdays and that she would give me a call. She never called. I called back 10 days later and was informed (rudely) by a member of the office staff that the information was faxed over and it wasn't their fault that the Insurance hasn't gotten back to them. I inquired if they had followed up and she said that she didn't know, Molly (who I presume is the 1 day a week worker) wasn't there that day. I asked if the Insurance Company takes approximately 1 month, yet they were scheduling 2 months out, why we couldn't schedule since an answer would be returned from the Insurance Company weeks before the surgery and I never received an answer. She said that we had to wait for the Insurance Company. Furthermore, when I stated that I was obviously very unhappy with the lack of progress and the fact that I never received a call back from Molly, as promised, I was told that she's going to have the doctor call me because they run a very efficient office and that I'm being 'negative'. I am extremely frustrated with the office staff and their lack of compassion for the fact that my 2 year old has issues that are not going to get any better until they are taken care of. The only reason that I am putting 2 stars rather than 1 is because the Dental Hygienist who examined my son was absolutely wonderful with him. Appointments seemed to be double-booked -- I waited far past my scheduled time more than once, and it was obvious they were trying to move patients through as quickly as possible. The quality of work did not meet my expectations. I felt like my concerns weren't taken seriously, and procedures felt hurried rather than careful and thorough. Communication was poor, and I often felt like I was being upsold instead of genuinely cared for. Don't bother calling the office either, you will be put on a hold loop, sent to multiple places to end the call!
