I've been banking with vfcu for 5 years now. But this one downtown, just isn't like the one by the mall on dale... The tellers are rude. Especially Whitney today. I was not impressed. I've been trying to get issued a credit card for over 3 months now and I get that I have to call a number but Every time I do, I think they ordered me one, but come to find out it still hasn't shown . im beyond annoyed and frustrated and I hope that they would understand. I resently was informed that my debit card was going to be closed and a new card was being sent out. All this was to happen on the 17th of September. So on or around the 12th no card in the mail so I go into the branch on Jst to ask about this and the teller says yes you should have recieved this already maybe it was stolen . I said no i have a locking mailbox. So then she said to wait and she would get someone. So a lady comes and gets me about 15 minutes later takes me back says yes this is happening alot and i will get you a new card now. She did this with an attitude and when i said really this is normal she just said rolling her eyes in her head im taking care of it ok calm down. Im like what in the world. Where do these people come from? I been with the credit union for over 20 years and it is going way down hill. This bank is the slowest bank I have ever been to. There seems to be a whole bunch of workers but only one person actually helping customers. Their on line banking is just as bad. You are not able to access anything that you actually need.. Like trying to activate your ATM card. What's worst is their call center. So many options to go to but it will take you forever to reach an actual person. Sucks because I did a teen account for my daughter and if we cancel before a year we will be charged a fee, if I'd had known it was goin to be this hard to get anything done with our accounts I would have just gone somewhere else. DO NOT BANK WITH THIS BANK! This is by far the worst bank you could possibly bank with. I have spent more money on over-draft fees than I have ever had with any other financial institution. They tricked me into signing up for overdraft protection, which isn't protection in the least bit. I want to tell you what a headache this bank has caused me, starting with the app never working, when the branches are always randomly closed, but the biggest problem is their fees. $25 fee just to cover .83 cents?? I am a responsible person but sometimes stuff happens that can not be controlled. At Valley First, that's when they like to sink their teeth into you. When you don't have money, they'll keep charging you fees because they can. Seriously, I promise that you won't be happy with this bank. Stay far, far away from this bank. And the best part of all of this, after paying over $500 in overdraft fees, they still make you jump through hoops. Like the form to close your account. The link from their site to the form requires you to pay a monthly fee to fill out the form. Can you believe that?!?!? They try to charge you to fill out their forms!!! I've been with this Credit Union for the last 18 years and they've finally become too big and non-responsive to individuals just like any other bank that I'm going to leave and find somebody else. Employees are either not in or unavailable when you really need them. Their VISA connection is ridiculous - they refer you to VISA and VISA refers you to them when there's a problem. Get the right 800 number? Sorry, not today. That person isn't in but leave them a voicemail & we'll see if they call you back. I miss the old Credit Union. ZERO STARS I am new to banking with valley first credit union and I interrogated the representative that I started my account with to be sure it was a good move from Chase. She had me under the impression that there were zero fee's for withdrawing from my Kasa cash back, she informed me that it does not charge to move funds from Kasa saver to cash back.. but what is the withdraw excess od fee? Turns out they charge 5 dollars each time they move cash from savings to checking! You receive 3 free moves and that's it.. why would she say I would never have to worry about od fees! She did inform me of the up to 30 dollars back on atm fees if meeting 12 debit transactions and logging in to online banking. She also said that I would never need to worry about over draft fees because if there isn't enough in checking it pulls from savings. I feel completely misled. I even asked her to tell me of any possible fees I might incur! Also, when I go into the bank and deposit my check, chat with the teller how it is so great that the system pulls money from savings to checking which is why I deposit my funds only into savings.. wouldn't that cue the teller to inform me of the 5 dollar fee I am being charged each time? You would think that it would, seems to me that Valley First CU is quite creative in the manner of which they steel from their clients. I have been with vfcu for less than 5 months and have lost $246.00 in fees, and the kicker.. they never once informed me that I was being charged these fees, thank god I caught one fee they charged and maticulously looked through my statements for more! Sometimes very slow when there are a lot of people in line with one teller and four other employees not bothering to help. Online bill pay is by far the worst or trying to call. So now valley line isn't available then when I finally got ahold they said they can't find me. Now I have no access to my $ without having to go to one of a couple branches that they have. Since I cannot give zero stars. I planned on closing my account but since I had a trip overseas I decided on waiting until I got back so that I would have more time and I had already informed Valley First of my oversea travels. Big mistake! My debit got compromised so they informed me that they were invalidating the card and would have to reissue a new card that would take two weeks. I said I was leaving in 4 days and was currently 3 hours away and asked if they could expedite the request. During this time I was sharing my dilemma with friends and coworkers and some had similar instances and their bank did overnight a new card to them with no issues. I even told Valley First that I would pay for the shipping. Valley First did said they would not but I could drive out and pick it up personally. After all the stress and getting my new card I use it in U.S. to make sure it works and it did. Well get to Thailand and it does not work. I tried multiple bank machines and stores with no luck. Call the bank at the appropriate time being half way around the world and they said that I could not have used the card at a machine because it would have showed up on their end as declined or wrong pin. Well I did! And multiple machines and super markets at that! The next day again I try again at multiple places with no luck. It was not easy coordinating time so that I could call with the time change but I made it happen. Again they said it could not be the card and everything was perfect on their end. After a few days headache I decided to try to order something off Amazon and it worked. I called back upset because I had informed them of my travels and now I am half way around the world low on funds. They confirmed that they had it listed on my account of my travel dates. Now Valley First starts blaming Visa and they would talk to them to get this resolved. For 5 days, everyday they would tell me it was fixed and they figured out the problem and to go try to pull money out....and it would not work! They even requested that I get up in the middle of the night and walk to a bank machine to test it out, which is completely unsafe. I was furious. If it was not for traveling with friends I don't know what I would have done. Valley First finally got it fixed the LAST DAY of my two week trip!! My account is now closed and I am pleased with my new credit union's customer service and I have traveled with my new bank with no issues! read more

Been a customer of this bank for over 15 years. Had to order a new card after a merchant broke my card swiping it. Instead of waiting the 2 weeks to receive my card by mail I opted to pay 10$ to have my card made the same day. I waited over and hour after being told my card would be ready in 15 min. My card still wasn't ready and I had to be at work so I told them I would come back the next day and pick up my card. The following day I arrive to the bank to get my card and I'm told the bank manager is at lunch and my card locked in the vault, it would be ANOTHER hour to get my card. I too have experienced many of the problems detailed in the reviews by Shelly S. and Robert S. Security breaches. Out of order ATMs that are left to languish for days. The inability to reset a PIN when needing access to my account while hundreds of miles from the nearest branch. So instead of rehashing the familiar complaints, I'm going to add a new one: online banking. Specifically the inability to see pending transactions. Every other financial institution I have used in the past ten years has allowed me to see my pending transactions. Considering many of us can use our debit card several times a day, the inability to see exactly which transactions are pending makes it difficult to balance my books at the end of the day to make sure my numbers match theirs. Minor complaint? Possibly. But it goes to show the lack of attention to detail that this credit union displays. read more

Went with my daughter who was opening her first checking account. The new accounts lady was trying to upsell everything under the sun even after me butting in that my daughter has no need for a home loan and other products. She just wants a checking account. Didn't stop the lady. She continued to try to get her to open a loan, credit card, etc. We were in there for-ever! Then the stupid ATM would keep capturing her card for no reason (literally, the bank said they had no idea why it kept happening). Happened several times. I am extremely pissed off at Valley 1st Credit Union. On Friday, Saturday and today as well, I accessed my online banking in order to print out 4 e-statements online. I could not get the system to work. I went down to the Modesto Downtown Office and spoke with Bethany Ellen who me that's she would email IT to fix the problem. I told her that I needed the statements now. She told me she would have to charge me $5 per statement for a total of $20 because the problem was now fixed and I could print them out at home. I again told Bethany that I needed them right now and she said they were going to charge me five dollars per statement. I explained to Bethany that I had tried to download them at home and did not want to go back home to print them. She acknowledged it was their error, but still refused to waive the fees. I asked her to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor, Ted Poalella also refused to waive the fees because the problem was 'now fixed.' I asked to speak with a manager. She said the manager, Elizabeth Young told her that they would only waive half of the fees. After 19 years of a being a customer with Valley First Credit Union, I will be closing all of my accounts with them. Good Riddance. No wonder they have such crappy YELP Reviews!!!! read more

This is a very decent credit union AS LONG AS YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO IN THERE. If you have any regular need to see a teller, pick a different place. They'll have 10 people or more in line and 2 tellers with all the other teller windows closed. They have chosen not to adequately staff their branches to save money or for some other consideration. They're not concerned with customer service. I think it's that simple. If you just do everything online or via ATM, they're okay. But recently EVEN THEIR ATM's are "temporarily out of service" with way too much frequency. So you need to go inside just to take out money. It's crazy how frequently they are down. Try standing in line at the mall branch. An exercise in frustration. They just don't prioritize customer service. They are a bank so I assume they've crunched the numbers and it makes more financial sense to them to lose whatever business they lose through third-rate teller service than hire enough tellers. I've banked here for years and it wasn't always like this. So clearly they can do better as they use to. They simply choose to provide a terrible in-branch customer experience. read more

I've never been blocked out of my own account so many times. Every time I make a purchase Blocked because of "suspicious activity" I get it they're trying to make my account safe, but every time I make a purchase in another city 30 minutes away? and then if it's a weekend I'm stuck using my credit card because I can't unblock until the next business day and then I have to do it in person. Whenever I call their customer service I get directed to another provider who then says they handle the online account but not the card. Then the card account who says visa handles issues like that, then going into the establishment only to have them tell me I have call another number. Seriously? Other banks like USAA have a one stop shop. You call a number then they DIRECT you to the call. Not me having to call a number then having to go through another press one if... 2 if...3 if... it's ridiculous. I've wasting so much time just having to go down their to fix this issue and soon as I go to another city my card gets block yet again. I hope this helps other people with making their decision to not use this credit union especially if they travel frequently. read more

My account at VFCU has been active at least 10 years, with regular direct deposits, and a comfortable cushion left in checking, despite next to no interest accruing. Didn't need to go in very often, but almost every time there was a long line and inadequate staff. There were a few other annoyances in the way they handled their online banking, but none of these were enough to bother me too much. BUT THEN came the kicker: I was on a long trip across the US and Canada, and needed to access my account for cash, but was denied. Four calls to the service line resulted in four different stories. FInally, the 5th call explained that a letter about changing the system was snail-mailed to my home the week after I left, and there was no way they could override it. Two calls to the membership vice-pres went unreturned. Supporting a local credit union felt good, especially when the big banks caused the recession. But this credit union is very disappointing. read more

Had the worst experience ever with this bank today. I've been a customer with this bank for 15 years. Never had a problem referred many many people there. Went there today and was going to use the ATM to pull out some money. Got an insufficient funds error so I went inside. I knew it had to be an error because I just checked my balance before I left home and my paycheck was there. I was told by the teller that because I was late on my car payment they had the right to just take my entire check without telling me. I knew I was late but not even 30 days late. I understand that you have the right but I was not even contacted otherwise I would have gotten a hold of them and worked something out. I'm unfortunately without a phone right now but do have access to my emails. Yes you did send one today but not until 12:29 and I was driving to your bank at that time and got there right before 1 and like I stated I checked it right before I left. Had a car loan through Valley First CU with GAP coverage. After a couple of years of making payments, we refinanced the loan to get a lower payment each month, which also extended the length of the loan. Here is where it gets interesting: This was all done over the phone. Everything was supposed to remain the same and they faxed us one page we needed to sign since everything would remain the same. Done. Fast forward a couple of years. Vehicle was totaled in a bad accident. My Insurance covered the value of the vehicle and Valley First credited me $12 and said that I owe them thousands of dollars. When I asked about the GAP coverage that is specifically for this, they said "what GAP coverage?" Apparently when we redid the loan, when they said everything would remain the same, I did not. They took off the GAP coverage without my consent. When I asked them about this, they told me to read the terms and conditions that they never even gave me to begin with. Remember, it was a one page fax for us to sign. There was no other t&c to see. Now Valley First is coming after me for money when they already screwed me. Thanks Valley First. You suck. read more

Worst Credit Union!!!!! They will not set up auto pay for our trailer loan through our regular bank!!! They don't send monthly statements, but will send a statement if you are late with a payment. If I could rate a negative i would. I have been a member of Valley first for at least 23 years and have always raved on their overall service. Over the past 2 years, I have had issue after issue. The branch manager at the Dale Rd location has been more than helpful in relaying to her employees in detail how to resolve my issues. Unfortunately, I cant call her weekly which is how often it seems I have an issue. My ATM card is turned off randomly, of course this happens on a Saturday after close usually, and with no notice. When I am out of town my card is declined time and again.This week?? ATM's are down AGAIN!!!!! I couldnt make my deposit, resulting in an overdraft and a fun bonus charge of 27.00. I have changed my direct deposit and do all of my banking with another credit union as of now, but unfortunately I have a vehicle payment that goes into this account otherwise I would close it all together. Very very disappointing to say the least. If you are looking for reliable, knowledgeable service, this is not the credit union for you. read more

This USE to be a good bank; but their customer service and "small town" relationship feel has clearly evaporated overtime. Perhaps their customer base has grown to a point that irrespective of being a customer for over 10 years, they are perfectly fine with customers taking their business elsewhere--over a technicality! I moved to the bay area in 2012 to finish law school and had initially called to cancel my account. My mother and I each have accounts with VFCU and it was her who helped me open my first account when I was just 17. My mom actually moved to Sacramento and was planning to close her account, but I convinced her to keep hers, because I live in the Bay Area--but still had mine. In any event, the woman I spoke with told me that although I was moving away, I could still keep the account instead of canceling it. She even emailed me a list of credit union partners in my area that I could still bank with if I needed to make withdraws, deposits, etc. So I did not think it would be an issue when I made a large deposit last week Friday morning. Only a portion of the deposit showed up on my printed receipt, but I just figured the rest would clear in a day or so. Come Tuesday this week, there was still no release of the funds into my account. By Wednesday, I was very concerned because I have many bills automated. Between planning my wedding and trying to recall all the places that would be debiting my account, I decided to call VFCU on Wednesday. I waited, and waited, and waited for SOMEBODY to pick up the phone--but no, just the annoying recording played over and over. I had to get back to work, so after 8mins, I hung up and sent an email instead. Nobody got back to me yesterday so I decided to call again this morning. I called at 9:15am and by 9:28am, I was STILL waiting for someone to answer the phone. I decided I would call back during my lunch break. Meanwhile, my Mint.com account had notified me that my account was now overdrawn. I was livid!! THIS was what I was trying to avoid and what I was afraid would happen!!! I received an email finally from Raquel around noon. Rather than email her back, I decided to call. AGAIN I was on hold for 10 minutes before someone answered. It turned out to be Raquel. I explained to her the situation and she put me on hold again to speak to her manager, Joan(a). When she came back she told me she would release the money pending to my account but that they were not going to reverse the two overdraft fees on my account that happened the hour before! I asked to speak to her manager, and was told she was gone for lunch. I was instead transferred to Joan's voicemail. Joan called me back later about a couple hours after the voicemail. She acted like she was there to hear me out but after I explained to her what happened, she just dismissed me saying that she was not going to reverse the overdraft fees. It was so incredibly insulting. Both Joan and Raquel had the unmitigated chutzpah to scold me about not using the VFCU app to deposit my check rather than go to a partner atm. Joan said the app just came out--thanks for the marketing effort VFCU. So now all of this is MY fault? Because I did not know it would take THIS much time to deposit a check into my account???!! I ended up letting Joan know that I wanted to close my account with VFCU. I was told I had to sign something to do this. I asked her to email it over so I could begin the process and as it stands now (10:13pm) I never received anything although we spoke this afternoon around 3pm. I am so over it. It is so clear that these folks haven't a clue that it is more difficult to get new customers than it is to maintain the LOYALTY you had!! Great service guys!! Good riddance! read more

So some kinda of update and I had to go thru name...ect to tell me I would receive an email within 24 to 48 hours...still nothing 3 days later.
