went to the ER with chest pain and shortness of breath. Was triage and immediately sent for laboratory x-ray and EKG. Then, sent to the waiting room and waited three hours before being taken back to be seen by a physician. My complaint is I do not feel laboratory test should be ordered before a physician even sees you. Number two; the waiting time is unacceptable in the waiting room over 3 hours. The time spent after being taken to a room to see the physician in the ER was over 2 hours to see a physician, the physician and nursing staff were efficient, especially Ashlyn and should be commended . At the time of my visit, there was no water in the hospital, apparently due to a replacement of a main water valve near the highway. I was admitted to Observation and 9 hours after arriving in the ER I was moved to the 4th floor. my negative experience occurred the first night on the floor. The night staff were curt and did not listen to my concern. when I took medication there was one missing and I was told it was not on the list, I had to tell them it was being taken every night at home for cardiac arrhythmia and doctor ordered. It took over an hour to finally receive the medication. They had bad attitudes! Won't allow elderly people to pick the doctor they want. Evidently cardiologist are suddenly unable to order bloodwork. I was told I had to go to a general practitioner to get a metabolic panel done. The last cardiologist that retired ordered this every year for 29 years . I heard valley health was bought out by some big conglomerate that has laid off people and have a long waiting time in the emergency room. I had my first ever MRI here as a preventative procedure as my mom died from breast cancer at 52 because they missed it during a mammogram. My insurance denied the MRI, but I trusted Valley Health's pre-paid guarantee and paid $500 up front for my MRI. The MRI itself resulted in complications from a botched IV - the contrast was injected in full into my arm despite my telling the techs the IV felt painful and wrong. I had nerve damage I had to go back to my doctor for. Then 4 months after the procedure I was hit with another $522 bill which apparently is what they charge for "reading" the MRI , for which no estimate or disclosure was ever made. Do NOT trust Valley Health. I called to try to dispute the charges and was passed around on hold for over an hour until they found someone - Julie or Julia - who unsympathetically told me that it's too bad for me, they don't know what their (only) imaging partner charges and her personal charge was only $10. Apparently, it's not up to Valley Health to be transparent or provide estimates for "external providers" - even though I had no choice in that radiologist or whether or not my MRI was read. Companies like Function Health are going to put hospitals like this out of business and good riddance. read more

Worst care! Primary Care Spring Mills, and Martinsburg, WV is glaringly lacking. Urgent Care, Spring Mills - they peruse the system information and follow with misinformation to corroborate the neglect and incompetence - they misdiagnose; also, add false misinformation information into your health record. Their patient experience office will lie straight to your face; if you file a complaint with an agency they will not speak with you further. Greatly lacking professionalism, courtesy and transparency. Noting, filing an outside complaint will result in retaliation by this entity. Sadly, this is a top-down problem starting with the CEO. My daughter had her baby at WMC. Labor and delivery was fine. We loved her doctor And nurses. That being said, my complaint is with the Mother Baby unit. Absolutely horrendous. No one came to check on her or the baby for hours upon hours. Loud construction outside of the room they chose to put her in. We had to practically beg them to bathe the brand new baby. And the worst part was that she (mom) is a type 1 diabetic that is insulin dependent and it wasn't even charted correctly. Luckily she packed her own insulin and was able to dose herself properly. In addition to that she is deathly allergic to peanuts and they offered her peanut butter and crackers as a snack! She was only able to stay for 2 days. She could barely walk after her c-section and they sent her home. My recommendation is this, if you value your life and the care of yourself and your brand new baby then DO NOT DELIVER AT WINCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER!!!! Please! read more

I went to Urgent Care Rutherford Crossing at the beginning of August. My cat bit and scratched me. There were several open wounds on my hand. The NP looked at it and walked out. Another nurse came back with a tetnus shot. It wasn't cleaned or dressed. I was told to put antibiotic cream on it and take an antibiotic. When I got home the paperwork said they gave me a lidocaine shot which would have been for numbing before cleaning. But they forgot to do that part. Two weeks later I'm driving to an orthopedic appointment in another state with a hand surgeon to have my hand cut open because the infection was so bad. I know a lot more about wound care now, no thanks to Vally Health. Oh and this ordeal took almost 3 hours. Will never go back. Avoid Valley Health as much as possible. Went in for a procedure that required anesthesia and was unable to have the test done because they "forgot" to tell me I had to be off a medication I take for a week. I wasted gas driving over an hour to get to Winchester medical center, just to be told I couldn't do the procedure. But this is typical of Valley Health. They always screw things up. And the care they do give is nearly fatal. A few years ago, I laid in a ER bed for four hours when I had a spider bite from a brown recluse. They put me in the room, and nobody came in for 30 minutes. Finally, a nurse came in to take my vitals and my blood pressure was very low, and I had a fever of 103.7. It was another hour before someone came back. Took my vitals again. Blood pressure was dropping and fever was mow 105. I laid there another 2 and half hours and still never seen a doctor. I walked out and drove to a hospital in West Virginia and ended up being hospitalized for 3 days on antibiotics and other meds via IV before I could finally go home. read more

Billing department is hilariously incompetent. Every other provider involved in my care was able to get statements to me and got paid on time, except for this one. I had no idea I owed them anything until I was alerted to a new collection on my credit report. Long story (and several phone calls later), it turns out they had the wrong billing address on file for me. But don't worry, they're going to contact the debt collector and fix everything. Except they didn't, so now the collector - who somehow do have my correct address - are mailing me stuff. I called the billing department yesterday and was told they need more time to collect their fee from my insurer before they can take me out of collections. Excuse me? YOU screwed up, not me. YOU damaged my (previously 800+) credit rating, not me, and you have no plans to do anything about that, you just want to make sure you get your $57? "To be honest, sir, that's true." It says Valley Health is "not for profit", but after this last experience I would put you on the same level with Sentara. Trust me, that's not a good place to be! My mother-in-law ended up at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital one night and was transferred to Winchester's ICU. Being out of state, I had no concerns she would receive the best care because I have dealt with Valley health for years before moving! But this has really turned my opinion sour and I believe an investigation needs to be done to find out what is lacking and why patients are not getting the care, attention and help they deserve. My mother-in-law spent eight days in the ICU and for the most part, we were satisfied with the care she received and the staff were truly caring. But we were told by Dr. Dell himself, he and his team would get in touch with us to go over a plan for my mother-in-law going forward. No such call came. My mother-in-law had been in a coma for eight days and when she woke up, she was transferred to the fifth floor with pneumonia, that is when all Hell broke loose! Those people, the entire staff (doctors, nurses, everyone), needs a forced vacation! APPARENTLY, spending time working there has given them the attitude they can be rude, ignore requests for call backs, treat you like shit, lie to patients, and discharge a patient who needs a plan in place, the day after she wakes up from a coma! The stick up their asses, needs to be removed! And while they are recovering, they can take care of each other! My mother-in-law is not a healthy woman, we don't live close by and were taking care of matters long distance. We called the ICU and asked to have someone call us, we needed help! No one on the fifth floor would help us! Where was the plan that we were supposed to be working together to come up with? Why did no one give a shit about this woman?! Why is she treated like another dollar sign? She wasn't in your hospital two days, we didn't know if she was going to live or die, and your financial people are calling us about payments! Why didn't they contact her insurances? She had been to Valley Health before! IT'S IN YOUR SYSTEM! Are your people that incompetent they don't know how to do their jobs?! They call the family to do it for them?! Now, my mother-in-law is home, with no plan in place for her to get better. I have called and left MULTIPLE messages for a patient advocate and, guess what? I've lived in Winchester for a little more than three years. Compared to the Reston/Fairfax area and the readily available choices for quality medical services, I've been astounded by the low quality of care here. I have found precisely two doctor's offices that have the standard of care that I have been accustomed to and expect. To find those doctors, I used the internet, references and recommendations from people I know here. It took a number of visits to physicians and urgent care facilities around here to find disappointment after disappointment. What's worse, with Covid abound, several of these offices, including the phlebotomy department downstairs, did not enforce or care about any masking rules. When I pointed this out, the workers in that office were no less than rude in their responses. No change by the way, I checked! Then there are the urgent care centers. The Rutherford Crossing Urgent Care facility would get minus points from me if Yelp allowed it. Diagnosed by a nurse practitioner's I was told I had influenza B. I also suffered from a deep unrelenting, unproductive cough and was given a totally ineffective script and the advice to take lots of OTC expectorants and pills. They totally ignored my suggestions to combat this issue The prevailing attitude was one of ignorance, unprofessionalism and indifference, bordering on negligence. I finally found the care I needed in Reston from my previous providers who actually welcome a patient's intelligent and informed input. RevUp... WARNING!!! For all you Medicare patients out there, beware, beware, beware. DO NOT sign up with RevUp and tell them to STOP calling you. Sorry that this is so long but you need to read this.... You need to know what's happening!!! Valley Health has partnered with MD Revolution for the purpose of (according to the MD Revolution website) "optimizing access for your patients while allowing practices to capitalize on expanding Medicare reimbursement." Emphasis on "CAPITALIZE on EXPANDING Medicare reimbursement." WHAT??? As a partner, without prior knowledge or consent, Valley Health has turned over the personal information of their Medicare patients (i.e., private phone numbers, names, primary physicians' names, addresses, etc., etc.) to MD Revolution, who, in turn, provided that information to RevUp, a subsidiary or program (or whatever) of or within MD Revolution. RevUp is a company/program (it's a bit unclear to me since they have their own website) that markets the Medicare patients for the purpose of selling them their Medicare-related management services, which, according to their website is as follows: Chronic Care Management (CCM), Remote Patient Monitoring(RPM), and Annual Wellness Visits(AWV). So, MD Revolution markets/targets/goes after the physicians and healthcare systems while RevUp markets/targets/goes after the patients. And, if you go back to that statement, "allowing practices to capitalize on expanding Medicare reimbursement," you can see how the circle is closed and they all benefit (i.e., MD Revolution, RevUP, and the participating physicians/healthcare systems) -- a symbiotic relationship of sorts. What a concept!! I'm actually surprised that Amazon hasn't thought of this. What a thought, though!!! Bring in Amazon and they can put it all on the cloud. :-| According to the RevUp website, this "managed" care is all done remotely using RNs and MAs (i.e., medical assistants -- the folks who take your temperature and bring you a band-aide) -- no MDs or even PAs. Keep in mind, this is a commercial company, not a healthcare facility. So, to me, it's tantamount to commercialized healthcare. :-( RevUp's website makes it sound as if the service is all very reasonable and affordable but word on the street says it's anything but because patients are getting hit with big bills -- for things they don't even need or want. And, if that's not bad enough, from what I understand, once you sign up, it becomes nearly impossible to get out from underneath them. All this begs the question: do you want your healthcare to become commercialized and do you want your healthcare being handed over to an MA for management? Or even a RN, for that matter, which is, at least, a bit better? And, do you want a commercial company having access to your medical information? I know I don't. BTW, when RevUp calls, they'll tell you it's a "Medicare program." But, Medicare's never heard of it -- I know, I called. It's not a "Medicare program," it's a RevUp/MD Revolution program. So, that alone is misleading to patients and gives patients a false sense of security. Oh... it's Medicare so it must be OK. Anyhow, please, please, please, if you're getting these calls (coming from Bedford, VA -- 540-536-2311 -- marked as SPAM by my carrier), answer them and then tell them to STOP calling you. AND, please, please, please, submit a complaint to Valley Health. Let them know that you don't want your personal information shared with a commercial entity without your prior knowledge and consent. If you're like me, I don't mind my information being shared with other doctors, as needed, but I draw the line with commercial companies because it then becomes all about profit and not about real care. You don't need a third-party commercial company managing your care; that's what your doctor is for. I don't believe they can properly advise you because they are not equipped for that (they are NOT doctors) and, to me, a commercial for-profit business trying to manage one's healthcare becomes a conflict of interest. Just a side note: Valley Health also sucks at billing, scheduling, and their sleep studies. They are completely incompetent at all three. And, that's just the ones I've had issues with. There's probably more. Since Valley Health has taken over Winchester Hospital, it's stellar reputation has been severely damaged. For many years, Winchester Hospital was in the top 100 hospitals in the US. That's huge considering that it's a small-town hospital. The doctors and most of the staff are perfectly fine; it's Valley Health that's a problem -- a BIG problem. I hope Valley Health cleans up its act because, right now... I'm NOT impressed. read more

We had an appointment scheduled 2 months ago. We were on our way in plenty of time to our appointment but there was a crash on 1-81. We called to advise we would be late twice as no one answered the phone, despite asking them to call us back to make sure they got the message. We arrive 1/2 hr late because of the accident and when we arrived 4 staff members were sitting around chatting. When we explained to the receptionist the situation and we called twice but no one called us back, she told us she would check with Dr. Pilson, she came back and told us that we would have to reschedule. I asked her if she explained the situation and she said she did and that because of the provider we would need to reschedule. About 15 mins later and on our way home, Dr. Pilson called us to say that she can probably fit us in. What happened to the provider? I would never go back or recommend to anyone.
