If I could give no stars I would. They don't back up their work if it is done incorrectly. My tub was installed with the wrong piping. The contractor brought me a broken fireplace and wouldn't replace it after installing that one that he had purchased and along with that the chimney and around the fire place leaked with rain and he said "no" to fixing it. I had to pay someone else and to fix the floor and electrical around the fireplace had to be replaced. I would never hire them to do work on my home again. Nor would I refer anyone to have Valley Home Construction do work on their house because, 1. Poor workmanship. 2. They do not correct their mistakes. It's up to you to use this company. Not very nice owner doesn't keep word when job would be completed took 3 months instead of 1month. Not a man of word threatens . Very un happy job still not officially completed no end of job inspection passed. Overcharged !! Permit inspector came but never passed. Motion sensor never worked. Getting someone to finish job. Yes, I would use them again for a big remodel. I only put 4 stars because on my kitchen and two bath remodels, I felt that their project manager, Joe, didn't really care about my concerns with mistakes that were being made. Valley's subcontractors and I got along and resolved all issues that came up. They use exceptional subcontractors for painting, plumbing, flooring and electrical. Their office manager was always saving the day with follow-up on any concerns. I was aware of time delays, problems that arise with construction, as my father was in construction his entire life and taught me a lot about the business. It's hard to reel in subcontractors, and I was always on the job too, which made things happen according to plan. read more

We had Valley home construction come out and replace our second-story deck. It is a huge deck. They used a very nice redwood. The deck looks amazing so we've had many decks before and this is by far the very best. Their employees are amazing very friendly and impressive. They are really educated and know what they are doing. they even did a few little extras around the yard. That was not part of the contract, but they felt it needed to be Fixed and did not say anything and went ahead and fix them. They did not tell us they did it. We did not notice until after they were done with our deck. The pricing was amazing for the job they did. We had Ed out to do give us an estimate on a full fireplace remodel. We had a design in mind and presented it. Within days he had a woodworker, electrician and stone worker out all at once to inspect the job site and collaborate on design. The process was smooth and only had very minor setbacks. Ed's communication through the process was amazing and he didn't have a problem communicating after hours. Unfortunately, we were forced to have another kitchen remodel and hired VHC again, as we had a pleasant experience with them. This time, not so much. There is zero communication, despite all being in writing. My job was started 06.18.21 and is still not completed. Ed has his people come to the house for an hour or two at a time and then calls the sub to state they need to go to another house for an emergency. I still have messed up tile, despite the contract being a complete remove and replace, Ed and his crew refused to replace the underlayment under my tile and now they are not installed correctly. Ed came to my home and yelled at me, and at one time threatened to pull his contractors. I challenged him and asked him to do that, but to also refund my money ($24,000 paid to the company at this time and we had a floor installed {which I paid for tiles} only), as he is breaching the contract; he quickly called back and said we will be moving forward. That was in July. We are now in September, approaching three months with this nightmare of a company, and are being held hostage by a note VHC would like us to sign stating they are only doing the work at our insistence, despite failing to adhere to the contract signed by me. Since I have failed to sign, they will not respond. I have asked for their bond information, and we got crickets. Ed came to my home 09.17.21 and spoke with my fiance, and Ed had the nerve to say the work on my home looks "passable" and tried to state that is an industry term, which it is not. Further, what company wants to make their work sloppy, but passable? My fiance simply laughed and stated the same to Ed. We have been through at least 5 project managers since the start, all quitting because of Ed (they have called me after the fact to let me know). The one we have now is beat up and trying as best he can, but gets zero respect from Ed, either. It is simply a sh!t show and I do not recommend anyone wasting time or money with this ridiculous company. As we stand now, there is a list of 26 items needing repair and they will not answer texts. They were supposed to be here today. Needless to say, they never showed. Ed quit communicating saying he has done over 20,000 jobs without complaint! Ha!! Just read Yelp and we know he's a liar! I have now filed against his bond company and the CSLB. BEWARE! This IS NOT THE SAME COMPANY AS 2016!!! If I could give zero, I would. read more

very disappoinTed with business and integrity of business and owner Ted . was supposed to be done 23 June took until 23 August. With a broken garage from worker back in . U had to replace garage door opener. 650 in expected expense . Was told the fixtures would be reimbursed, not true was unable to use garage that was knocked off the track car had to be left outside for a week waiting on the approval of Ted who did not approve garage door opener. Rug covering was left in hall way on floor my 88 year old mother fell twice I had to take it up. Had to practically beg for toilet to be put in a month later. This is a continuation of my first review . Not happy with this company they start out strong but finish whenever. Good luck. Valley Home Construction had a remodel for us a year ago. His contract stated all work guaranteed as long as we lived in the home. Ed did not disappoint. We had a light go out after 1 year. Unfortunately it happened to be one of the 4 lights on out 30 ft ceiling. Originally they were installed by the painter while on scaffolding. Poor communication and Unprofessional ! Ed showed up for an in home consult late without calling or apologizing. He entered and insisted on meeting my husband before we could continue. On his insistence, I got my husband out of his home office to say hi and went back to work. Ed did not appear to be interested in the job from the get go. In less than 10 mins, gave us a rough estimate for the remodeling work- no details, no measurements taken, and was short on his responses. When I asked if certain things can be done, he said "yes, with more money." After a brief conversation, he handed over his business card and went out the door. A waste of time!! read more

UPDATE (YES IT GETS WORSE): On Tuesday April 18th 2023, I had an independent home inspector come to my house and provide me with an inspection report due to me selling the home. The inspector found an issue with a leaky hot water valve in the basin cabinet in the master bathroom as well as a loose toilet in the master bathroom, which was part of the remodel. I spoke to my wife and asked that she reach-out to VHC and have them come out to fix the issue, which is under warranty. The owner Ed Lane told my wife that they would only come out to fix the valve if I removed my previous Yelp review. I was very adamant that this was a warranty issue that they were obligated to fix. Now they are blackmailing me to remove my review in order for them to conduct repair work that is under warranty. FYI everyone, this is who Ed Lane is and how he operates his business of Valley Home Construction. A report to the BBB is upcoming. read more

I have had a wonderful experience with Valley Home Construction. Ed Lane and Mark Dunkelman have been so helpful and supportive from day one. I bought a house late last year with a huge hill and dirt pad in the backyard. I had no idea how to make it safe or a great entertainment space for myself and my dog, Jaba. Between Mark's innovative design and my wishes I now have a fabulous, safe and easy to care for backyard. My dog and I enjoy it everyday. I felt safe working with Mark & Ed and their ideas have been very helpful. In fact, they have been so easy to work with and tolerant of my needs I also had them paint my house, add new gutters, add an attic, add a elegant picket fence around my front yard and fix my roof. A nightmare of an experience working with Ed Lane. Truly unimaginable the way he conducts business. He is a real "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of guy and when it doesn't work out due to the many details he missed, he explodes and blames the customer. We originally met for a bath remodel. I already had someone doing a prefab plop-in unit for the shower and needed someone to do the rest of the job. Ed offered to take on my project, plus the shower and keep the cost of the shower within the same cost the other company had quoted. We discussed what I needed in the shower. A main point was a bench seat due to mobility issues I have. Sounded good at first. I signed a contract and gave $1,000 deposit. Ed took measurements and left. A week later one of his assistants called to schedule another appointment to come out and measure. We agreed on a date and time. The assistant called the day of the appointment to say something had come up and he could not make it an asked to reschedule. Ed had already been late for his appointment and now it seemed like this was going to be a recurring thing. I said I could reschedule, but needed the courtesy of respect for my time as well. Later that day Ed called and said he did not need my money or my business if I didn't understand delays. I somehow was sucked in, apologized and agreed to move forward. Ed. came out the next week with 2 other people. Ed rushed through with a lot of generalities. The other 2 people did nothing except jot things down when he barked at them. They were not engaged at all and kept asking about my art work and other things unrelated. Ed suggested a modification to the shower plan. I agreed as long as it included the things we talked about. He assured me it would work. After they left, I took some of my own measurements and became concerned about things fitting according to Ed's revised plan. I called and spoke to one of the assistants. He took note and agreed. He said he would work on it and get back me. The next call I got was from Ed. He said he could not do the bench seat in that space. I asked why. He said he did not realize I wanted a bench seat to sit on. I asked what his definition of "bench" is since what he seemed to have in mind was a shelf. I asked what we could do to modify the pans in some way to get the bench seat I needed. He said if I wanted a bench I would have to fit it into the design. I indicated it would be a guessing game since I am not a contractor. He then asked if I wanted to just cancel the project. I was surprised that this was his only solution. He said he had 23 years experience, so I thought he would have more to suggest. He was not willing to participate. It seemed my only option was to accept his suggestion and cancel, with the condition he return my deposit since he was not fulfilling his agreement to build what I needed. He agreed. Since then it has been an ongoing sequence of non-response, response, but no follow up, and getting text and messages from Ed basically telling me I was screwed. I went online and found that Ed's license had expired and he was conducting business under false pretenses. He offered to return my deposit once I pointed this out, but he immediately started playing games saying he would only return the deposit if I signed a Waiver of Responsibility". He offered to bring the check to my house that day, but minutes later texted saying I would have to make an appointment for the next week and come to his office. His mind changed with the blow of the wind. There are quite a few other unfavorable reviews and a complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau on Ed for the same issues. Buyer beware. This guy has no scruples, is abrasive and takes your money without performing. read more

I had a kitchen remodeling done in May 2019. I have avoided any negative reviews of this company up until now. The quality of their work is substandard. The baseboard which runs under the dishwasher bows out. Called them to have it fixed and they installed a screw which bowed it out worse. The quality of the cabinets is bad plus paint started peeling off a year later. I had good quality cabinets that I wanted to keep and get refaced. Ed, the owner, said they would not reface my cabinets and that they would install new ones. Well they turn out to be made of compressed wood and are cheap. The cabinets above the oven were not measured properly and there is a space between the wood above the oven and the cabinets. The electrical sockets are not lined up properly and some are slanted. We requested right up front that we wanted the breakfast bar to extend out 22" from the counter. We requested everything in writing and verbally of how we wanted the bar to be made. We wanted steel support for the bar cause the granite counter tops are very heavy. They didn't know how to support the bar with steel brackets and tried to tell us wood spindles at each corner would suffice. These spindles were ugly and did not go with our design. My husband went on Amazon and found steel plates that go underneath the granite for support. Anyway these were installed under the granite which seems fine. These "so called kitchen remodel specialist" are anything but specialist. In addition, we purchased a new oven and gave the oven pamphlet to their electrician so he would know what wattage the oven needed to be wired for. Their electrician gave me back the pamphlet w/o reading it and told me to call the manufacturer to get the information for him. Mind you this is suppose to be an experienced electrician who I am paying for through the contract I had with Valley Home Construction. He was unprofessional and rude. So after three years I have to let other consumers know to be aware of this company. read more

I have contracted Valley Home Construction (owner Ed Lane) to perform my deck remodel. The work began end of July 2016. To this day Sept 2017 (14 months later) the work is still not completed and the deck does not pass code. Ed will always have an excuse for you, and when he runs out of excuses, he starts to blame the home owner. He has been paid over $45,000.00 for this contracted work that the county says does not pass code. I am now working with the California State Contractors Board and the County of El Dorado to ensure that Ed and Valley Home Construction finishes what they have been paid for. At this time Ed is not adhering to the agreement that was agreed upon by himself and the California State Contractors Board. I suggest to choose another contractor to perform your work as this contractor accepts money and does not complete the job. The work they perform is not up to code. Once they start the work, they will drag their feet in order to start other jobs in order to keep the money rolling in. read more

We have been so pleased with Valley Home Construction. Working with Ed Lane was very low key and he's been extremely helpful. All of his guys are professional, helpful and always on time. We added a closet and a sliding glass window which necessitated having to build a patio, roof line changes, re bricking and paint and just a myriad of other things to make this project complete. We would not use or recommend Valley Home Construction. We hired them to do a remodel of a kitchen, downstairs flooring and 2 1/2 bathrooms. Half of a bathroom had already been completed. What was supposed to take 5-6 weeks per the contract we signed, took 16 plus weeks before completion. They started at the end of October and completed on February 10th. In addition, the project was started 3 weeks later than the contract stated. There was poor communication throughout. We infrequently knew if or when they would show up. They would complete something to 90% done, pick up a check, then disappear for several days or more. When we complained about how long it was taking we were threatened that they could put us off even longer. We were given several completion dates, which were blown through. Several excuses were given and they even blamed us for having an elaborate tile design, which we showed them from the beginning. Although we have no major complaint about the workmanship, the contract was vague and the management was incompetent and overall a great disappointment. The Project Manager was being trained on our project and didn't seem to know how to get things coordinated. We will not recommend them to anyone. read more

Ed and Jodi came through for us on a master bedroom remodel in Roseville. We took out the tub and expanded the shower into a "his and her" two head shower and it is immense. We also had new cabinets, tile, sink, granite, lights and electrical installed. Ed has great control over his sub contractors and Jodi is a maestro in getting them all aligned to get the job done quickly. We had a few glitches along the way, but every one of them was taken care of by VHC and we couldn't be happier. Our friends want to know what area we used to expand the bathroom. The truth is that it is the same size, but looks so much bigger. GREAT job, guys. Would recommend them wholeheartedly. read more

I entered a contract with valley home construction to do a concrete patio and cover. The sales person Mark Dunckelmann started off nice until the moment we both signed the contract. The contract specified the work to be done and the cost of $12,000 for the total job. I gave him a check for $1,000 deposit. Later I sent him a text asking if I could pay with a credit card instead. He said there would be a 3% charge. Since my budget was $12,000 budget, I suggested that I could reduce the amount of concrete space to reduce the cost of the job enough to cover the 3%. Mark immediately flipped out. He said that he was canceling the contract because the "scope" had changed, which was not true. He was just concerned about his commission amount...which wasn't going to change if we agreed to reduce the amount of the concrete area. He voided my check and brought it back to my house without even checking to see if it was ok to come to my house. I don't recommend doing business with Mark Dunckelmann...he's too volatile. I had found other companies that was much cheaper. The only reason I chose them is because I could get both the concrete and cover from one company. Initially I was upset because I had wasted hours with them to do measurements, etc. but now I realize it was a blessing in disguise. I'm going to get the same work done for a few thousand dollars less. I was just shocked at how he could change his attitude so quickly...telling lies and being rude because it didn't want to pay cash for the whole job. I told him that he should have specified that the amount was based on a cash only payment or the contract should have said so if it was a requirement. It was ridiculous how quick the whole thing blew up for no real reason. But again, it will save me about $3000 so it's good for me. I'm just sorry I wasted all that time and disappointed in the behavior of someone who gives contractors a bad name. read more

Then, just yesterday, I phoned Ed and told him we had a very small paint chip issue on the lower corner of the bathroom cabinet.
