Note to self: eat before arriving. 2nd visit was in the bar. Very noisy, every surface reflects sound and was quite uncomfortable. Ordered a cheesesteak that was very good, but still took over 30 minutes to arrive. 3rd visit...ordered a cheeseburger "medium". After 30 minutes, I got a very "well done" and dry burger. I needed a refill on my drink to finish it, but my server was nowhere to be found. I finally got my check and saw there was an "18% gratuity" added. I'm a good tipper, but not this time. We were nearby in Westport for a work trip. A local recommended the Valley Inn for lunch, so we decided to give it a try. This is NOT a place to eat lunch. It's a bar. There is enough wood in the place to build an ark. Even the bathroom is covered in it. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful hardwood, but I don't think there's a bare surface for your eyes to get a rest. The bar is the first thing you see as you walk in. There are also awkward bankettes and display cabinets in weird places and a stage at the end of the room. The bathroom door doesn't swing correctly, so you have to prop it open when you leave. It's not dirty, but it could use a good dusting. There was also some brewing apparatus in an ajoining room for a beer that I've never heard of before (Abbey Wright). Since I can't drink beer, that's not surprising. We walked in between 11:30 and noon. There were two guys sitting at the bar who looked like they were fixtures.There was no one behind the bar or anywhere in the huge room. There were no other people at all. No one else was there the whole time we were. The bar flies welcomed us and said that the waitress would be there soon. She did come out soon and we were seated at a wooden table on wooden chairs. Their menu is not friendly to someone like me (gluten-free and dairy-free). I ordered the grilled chicken salad. Oddly, the salad comes with french fries (I asked if that was normal in this part of Pennsylvania. The waitress said that it's just how it comes, lol). It was fine, but I was relegated to eating salad while my collegues had burgers. The burgers looked good. The waitress was great. She was a nice mix between friendly and attentive. Josh was very accommodating and helpful with planning and did an amazing job, from the room set up to service. Everything was on point. The food was wonderful. This brewpub is also known as Abbey Wright Brewing Co. Decided to stop by prior to driving back to NJ. Had just completed the Black Forest Trail across 3 days of backpacking and needed some recovery. Ordered 2 x 1/2 dozen wings (garlic and gold -n- tangy) and the pulled pork sandwich. As I waited for my order, tried the beer sampler which was about 2 pints total. The beer was OK but unimpressive, all of the styles tasted the same and there was a lack of crispness. I did however enjoy the flavor of the yeast as the beer did not appear to be filtered (yay!). The decor was noticed after the beer was being sipped and the woodwork is phenomenal as is evident by their sign outside. Also was impressed with the 2 pool tables and locals with Meuci cues! Kinda wish this place was near me. When the food arrived, was not impressed with the size of the wings, they were not very meaty. The sauce however was excellent for both. This would have been a bad deal if the waitress didnt provide some celery and carrot sticks. The pulled pork sandwich was tasty but dry - would have preferred some dipping sauce or just a nice and wet sandwich. The service was top notch, always had water and the waitress was very attentive. Think I gave a good 20 or 25% tip. Really want to like this place, but (a) the beer needs to improve and (b) some attention should be given to the food, ie, perhaps get bigger chicken wings or just whole thighs? If in the area for the rail trail, will plan on stopping by again or trying the other brewpub in Williamsport, Bullfrog Brewery. read more

Decent bar in Duboistown, just down the street from where I grew up. They have quizzo on Monday nights usually, but I think they stopped for the summer...however, when they are doing it again, you can win a gift certificate for the bar! The nachos are great, with homemade chips. I hear good things about the wings, but I'm vegan, so I can't say for sure. I honestly can't say I've ever had any of their own Abbey Wright beers, but that may be worth looking into. I usually just stick with PBR or Lager on tap...much cheaper, and I like cheap. read more

I used to love going to The Valley Inn. Not anymore. Although the wings we had last night were good, the price was outrageous and the service was horrible! No wonder their parking lot was empty at 5:00! You used to not be able to get a table at that place. Not only were the prices high, but now they charge you to use a debit/credit card! Are you kidding me? To top it off, we were the only customers in there and I had to take my bill up to the bar to try and pay for it there. If you are going here for the beer at Abbey Wright, don't. They must have gotten a new brewer in the past year or so because the beers are below average where they used to be very good. It's too bad as the rest of the place is ok, although very smokey in the bar area. October 2018, me and 4 other female friends was having a ladies night here. We ordered wings and drinks. Being it was close to Halloween I thought this was a joke. My girlfriend wings had a huge BUG in her wings (I have video)....that's not the bad part. The waiter takes her wings back and her co-worker actual was pissed with us, like we put the bug there. UPDATE to yesterday because we haven't went back since, my wings was not done all the way. Now ya'll know that red light they have over the bar, keeps you from seeing clearly. I moved away from the light just to make sure I was seeing correctly. YES my meat was still red/pink with juices still running out. I showed the waiter (she was new), she took the wings back to the kitchen and said sorry. They charged me $32 for 12 wings, fries, a beer and a soda. I only ate 1 1/2 wings...the kicker... offered no refund or another batch of wings THEN charged my card TWICE! Got home looked at my transactions and called the bar back. She told me her "boss" pulled my card out too soon but he thought he cancelled it, if its not clear by tomorrow (today) to come back and he'll give me cash back. I stopped in for a work day lunch and left without eating! First impression - a smoke-filled bar that serves food. I can't review the food because I never got any. Two of us placed our order (cup of soup and a turkey wrap and sliders) and 40 minutes later, left without ever getting a bite. About 30 minutes in, I asked the waitress to bring the soup before bringing the sandwich, and she never brought it. I did listen to her bitching and complaining for 10 minutes to a couple of fellas sitting at the bar about how much she hates her job. She never went to the kitchen to check on our order. In the 45 minutes that we were there, she brought out 4 lunch plates. I don't know if the problem was with the kitchen or the waitstaff, but my guess is that it's both! Food is good enough, but absolutely positively not for the price. If it costs that much to serve this kind of food they should try a different approach in my opinion. This past weekend I purchased a black diamond steak salad. It was just over $18! I am trying to eat less calories so it was my choice to order it. When the plate came out it was huge! I was hugely disappointed though as it came out with iceberg lettuce. Iceberg lettuce is soo cheap and non nutritious. If they are going to charge $18 it should NOT have been ice berg. If there was a choice to have different lettuce I was not given an option. My friends eating with me that day bough wings, they explained the wings are never as good when it is not wing night. They explained they were burnt and unhappy with them. I will not be back there again unless I have to meet people who already chose to go there. The expense is the killer here. It is good food, but I could offer many other places with less expense for the same quality. They do not have children's meals, so I would not recommend bringing children. I was forced to buy my 3 year old daughter a full size cheese steak. She of course only ate half of a half. If I wanted to bring the rest home to eat I would have taken it to go. I have groceries at my house for this reason. This caused my bill be even greater. I would never recommend take out unless it was very close, convenient and you have extra money. I used to go to this place all the time a few years ago, but then they started going through a lot of renovations, and sadly their food quality went down and their prices went way up. I stopped going there until recently, and now I must say that their food quality is right back to where it was before (if not better). While prices are still a little higher, they now have an excellent dinning area where you aren't subjected to a bar atmosphere unless you want to, and a decent selection of micro-brewed beers. I really enjoy all of the food I've tried there, but my favorite meal is their Ribs with their Lynchburgh sauce (they give you a nice sized rack of ribs, they aren't dry, and I love the sauce), along with brewcity fries (really delicious, I think they're beer battered), and their salad with hot bacon dressing (really unique and I just love it). I've tried some of their other stuff too, and it was all great, including a lot of their sides, burgers, subs and some of their dinner specials. Their wings are also very good, but make sure you buy the jumbo wings, as the normal ones are the tiniest chicken wings that I've ever seen. For the homemade beers, a lot of them tend to be on the sour side, but I still liked them, and they do have a fully stocked bar as well. In the new dining section, it's really beautiful, and there's a lot of space. Overall, I haven't had anything I've disliked here recently, and would definitely recommend it. read more

Worst experience ever. Decided to celebrate my birthday here with my wife and Mother-in-Law. I heard there was a brewery there so though a nice evening of food and craft beers would be great. Parking lot was full so first I followed the signs to Abbey's Brew Pub, opening the door I was immediately knocked back by the stench of cigarette smoke as I noticed ashtrays on the bar and tables. I thought it was against the law in PA to allow smoking in an establishment that served food? I guess they get around this by offering a smoke free banquet hall which is where we went to be seated. The waitress quickly came to take drink orders, however I think she had no clue what was available. I asked for one of the Brewery's craft beers on the back of the menu, she said she would have to check. She came back and said only one of the beers was available because they do not brew their beers (So much for a craft brewery on site). I asked what was available for Happy Hour she said only pitchers and mini pitchers. I asked how big the mini pitchers were she said about two 7 ounce glasses. My wife then inquired about the crab cakes on the menu if they were lump crab meat or a lot of filler. The waitress responded that she did not like seafood so she didn't know. Well could you please ask the chef? She left the table. Three to five minutes later another waitress arrived at our table with a drink menu. She took our drink order and food order after telling my wife the crab cakes were 50% bread filler. Mother-in-Law ordered broiled scallops and sweet potato fries, my wife ordered the baked haddock and garden salad and I ordered the Tennessee style baby back ribs and asked for the homemade chips for my potato. The waitress said there would be an upcharge for that which I agreed. Food came in good time but additional problems arose. Mother-in-Law began to eat her scallops and immediately pushed them away saying I cant eat these. First they had cajun seasoning on them (No mention of seasoning on the menu) I tasted one of the scallops and it was bitter almost rancid. I think the seasoning was to hide the taste! The waitress took them back and did not charge for that entry. I began to eat my ribs but had to fight to slice each bone from the rack. I always thought ribs were "fall off the bone tender"? These things were tough and in my opinion were not cooked long enough. Waitress came back to table to ask us if everything was ok. I said where were my chips? She went to ask the cook. She came back and said the cook forgot them. Instead of comping me for the cost she said I would have to take in a takeout box when I left. Sure enough the box arrived with the check. Awesome Place to hang out and lots of choices of beers!!! My wife and I had our wedding reception there! They have a very nice banquet hall. I have been going there for almost 14 years now and every time I go the staff is amazing. The REASON my wife and I go there are for the WINGS! Their wings are amazing. All the steaks were ordered Medium well to well and all were delivered rare. One meal was not served until a half hour after everyone else's. We had to ask 3 times for drink refills. The bills Were incorrect w items added on that was not ordered and the kicker of it all was the gratuity was added on without us being told so several added another tip on top of the already added gratuity. Where do I start regarding this really horrible experience at Valley Inn? There was not enough parking because of a wedding. I had to park at the bank. The bar was very smoky and people just lit up while people were eating. The wings that I heard so many great things about were very, very small. The french fries were greasy and disgusting. Their Hefeweise beer was the worst beer I ever had. It makes me wonder if they ever had a sample of what a Hefeweise beer is. I couldn't leave Valley Inn fast enough. If you just want to drink and smoke, this is the bar for you. Otherwise stay clear. There are plenty of other restaurants that I would go to, but this should be last on the list. read more

Recently, I had a reception at the valley. I always knew I wanted a country western theme to my wedding but never knew exactly where the location of the reception would be. I went to various reception halls but nothing seem to be "the match" for what I was looking for. My mother suggested going to look at the valley which I never knew had a separate reception//banquet hall. The moment I entered it I just knew it was beyond perfect. It is just simple, elegant, and absolutely stunning. Not only that but the biggest seller for me was the attention that my husband, mother, and I received from the owners. They wanted the reception to be even more perfect than I could dream, and it was. The food was amazing, the setup was exactly what I asked for, and the employees/owners were wonderful to everyone! October 19th is a day I'll never forget and I truly have the valley to thank for extending your self to accommodate all our needs...everything was amazing and beyond my expectations. read more

Dear Valley Inn.... we love your food. We love your atmosphere, and your wings and drinks for a beer garden. We've continued to patronage despite all of the continuing price increases and long waits for food, because you've been a "go-to" for wings and things for as long as I can remember. We just learn to pick and choose a little more carefully (the $18 salad greens with a few slices of chicken breast on top just has to wait another day to make room for your $9 onion rings ), but we always walk away satisfied. We consider it a treat, and we don't mind paying the extra when we can for good local faire. But tonight..... tonight we might just have to bid farewell. You see, it wasn't enough that my family of four ponied up $86 for some wings (it was after all, wing night, which we thought were reduced), a cheese cosmo, quesadilla and an appetizer platter - what upset me was that when the waitress brought our check, she non-nonchalantly mentioned, "oh by the way, there's an 18% gratuity added to your check" and walked away. Confused (as there were only 4 of us, and the room was only about 25% full) I looked inside to find the $106 bill. We were stunned, so when she returned I asked why the 18%, as that was generally reserved as mandatory amount for parties of 8 or more. She responded, "oh, we're allowed to charge it to whoever we want, whenever we want." This created even more confusion so to be clear, I asked whether she just 'arbitrarily' picked and chose whoever she decided she wanted to charge the 18% to, and she said "yeah". Finding her response Incredulous, I asked, "But... what if I don't wish to pay that amount??" She replied, "It's written inside on the menu I can charge whatever I want, whenever I want... and I charge it on any checks over $50". I was dazed and on my way to angry by this point, and the only response I could utter was "this will be the last time we come here". We paid and left, and will not return. Valley Inn, you can conduct business however you want. I've waitressed, my kids have waited - I know the pay is tip dependent. The sadness is that we always tip between 12-20% depending on what it is, because we do know how difficult it is to waitress. But because you have failed to train your staff the etiquette of informing your customers that they are permitted to charge a mandatory 18% gratuity fee at their whim, you have lost the revenue of a high paying, lifetime customer. You are way overpriced for the area, but we've paid it anyway, but not after this, and it saddens me. We'll miss your onion rings, but not your prices. read more
