You save on gas but pay out your A$$...My opinion is that bus drivers are very verbally abusive and the accountability for them is very minimal. I have been screamed at for not standing in the correct spot when I was near the bus sign but not i guess directly in front of it...and for placing my bike on the wrong end of the bike rack, as well as numerous other unusual items..I have also seen bums on the bus asking teenagers for money and trying to intimidate them while the driver does nothing about it , when you bring it to their attention and still lets the bum stay on the bus. There are a lot of dangerous people on the bus who come from probation offices, halfway houses, and I even saw a guy with an ankle bracelet who was telling everyone about just gettting out of prison, give out his phone number to a couple girls...Today some crazy church lady got out of a car and approached us as the bus pulled up to try to give us some unwanted religious magazine even though we told her to get lost so we could hop this bus quickly and get to work...she kept mumbling and talking to us like some selfish pyscho...Bus driver also drive right past you if you sit at the bus bench and then yell at you if they decide to screech stop a foot or 2 after you jump up; by scolding you to stand up and wildly flail your arms so they know you are waiting/wanting the bus...Hey is there a rule book they should give out instead of this random yelling of rules because everytime I call the bus operations center and belive you me, I DO...they email me they will discipline the driver and that I can stand, place bike or flail arms however and whenever I would like to...(well how about conduct and customer service for bus drivers..."if you have something to say, say something nicely" is my motto..Overall riding the bus or being at bus stops is very dangerous and everyone should carry mace or an ice pick. You also have to be careful exiting the bus that you dont get run over and of course sitting at the bus bench, usually there is some drunk slob sleeping on it, peeing it or people will drive by asking you for cigarettes and rolling papers or dates etc...Ive noticed the best way to ride the bus is to be earphoned into an ipod and 2nd but not recommended is bury your face in a book and dont sit anywhere near the bus bench unless you want to engage in psychotic conversations because you are like a sitting target. You may save money riding the bus but you will pay 3 times as much in stress. The bus drivers are very rude and scream at you whenever they feel like it... Riding the bus is similiar to being in a captive area where you are a victim to many outside influences. The rail is the same way, especially around the library, many dangerous people on the rail. The only nice experience i had on the bus is using the Express bus from the park and rides that go straight downtown...its all quiet, mannerly people going to work except even though there are cameras on the parking lot, two people told me their cars were broken into and then their house robbed when their garage openers were stolen from the glove boxes along with mail showing their address...so you need to pay to install an alarm and have nothing in the car. Like I said...you may save a couple bucks on gas but you will pay out your a$$ when you ride the bus. Luckily I ride it only once in awhile to work but I just cant stand it on a regular basis. read more

I give two stars because it is there to use, after all. Still, this happened in the last three days. A drug addict homeless person tried to steal by bike and tried to hit me in the head with a piece of iron, on the platform at Jefferson/1st Ave two days ago. Used the call button to report and was told security was on the way. Ten minutes later I left. Had to chase him away myself. Today, the driver was at a red light, she suddenly hit the gas then break, my bike flew off the rack and hit a woman in the head. We told the two security people at next stop and they said, quite... "Technically she's higher up than us so there's nothing we can do" Luckily it was just the tire, still it hit her kind of hard, but she said she was okay. She looked to be pushing 70 tho. Later that day I spoke to a supervisor and he had more excuses why there's nothing that can be done about this bullshit. My point is, all of these people are being paid with money comprised through tax revenue. Just the worst service ever!!!!! How.. just how are you late leaving when you are the first bus that leaves in your route. Im talking about the incredibly rude turkish/Persian looking man who drives the 51st ave bus north bound. He is just the biggest jerk. He's always late...like all the time. I complained about this idiot and they were all like well we will see where he is. While im waiting for the operator to "locate" him I see this smug moron walking towards me. I then ask him " Weren't you supposed to leave like 10 minutes ago" he then replies is an annoying arrogant voice "you complain to much I Don't think I will let you on" JUST.....omg are you freaking kidding me. Valley Metro has a decent light rail and streetcar system that should definitely be expanded. The light rail covers many parts of the metro area, including Central and Northern Phoenix, as well as North Tempe and Downtown Mesa. Light rail has many park and rides, and waits are about 15-20 minutes. Make sure you know arrival times before getting to the station. Stations are clean and provide shade, and also have fare machines and drinking fountains. There are also overhead signs that let you know when the next train is arriving as well as sound messages. The train itself is decently clean and modern, however sometimes it might not be the best smelling, but the seats seem to be clean. The light rail isn't the fastest thing, but it's reliable and connects plenty of Phoenix. read more

Hatcher and Cave Creek rd is drug infested and my neighbors are waiting for valley metro police to take care of the issue. Do NOT use this bus stop if you need a seat. Oh, the bus will stop there but not one of 13 will get on. It's disgusting and I witnessed a mother with her 15 year old deal with drug smoking people hiding to smoke untie cover by seat. On the bus, she told me that they bout got sick. I asked if she wanted to call but refused saying she didn't want to stir up any trouble. I'll remove or update my review after I see a change. One of the worst bus systems I have experienced. I just moved here few months ago, thought may be it was a good idea to take the bus to work since I live not far from where I work. After two months of taking the bus to work, my conclusion is that DON'T DO IT if you don't need to. It is not worth the headache. It seems the entire system is created for the people who have no other means of transportation, but bus. The fact that it costs $4 a day for such a disservice is laughable and could easily be described as state-sanctioned extortion toward anybody who does not drive, by choice or otherwise. The buses are NEVER on time, and I cannot stress that enough, which can, and has, led to troubles with job security for countless passengers across the Valley. I don't mind riding the bus with crazy people and grumpy unfriendly drivers. What I do mind is the price being too high and the lack of service at. night and on the weekends. Its service department (602-253-5000) is a joke; the mentality over there is that we really don't give a damn or even care: if you don't like it tough luck. I have never heard of such a nonsense that if your ticket is bad, you need to go to central station in downtown Phoenix to exchange the ticket (and they only open 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday), or if you happen to have given a wrong bus ticket by the local distribution store, touch luck there is no exchange policy. read more

Today, I was on bus #6518 and it was smoldering hot. The A/C was broken. Valley Metro sent no one to fix it. I called a lady named Julia who's a sales representative and she said it won't get fixed until the driver's shift was over. It was so hot that the driver could've had a heat stoke while driving.
