I have never had to take the light rail, but I have take it a lot lately. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. Its clean and it affordable and its easy to use. Right now its my only mode of transportation. the light rail has been on in schedule give or take and the prices are great and like that theres a daily maximum I have pay and the rest is covered. also for the buses they are pretty quick. I have it at three stars because it's more of an annoyance and there should be a different way of doing it, and thats checking to ensure everyone has paid on the light rail. on average i get checked 3-4 times just in the morning on the B line and sometimes by the same person and sometimes they see me scan my phone at the little kiosk. I understand the need to check but come on. There should be a way better implementation. also it creates a safety hazard when the train starts to move. Idk about every one else but thats my two cents. and one more thing for the buses, hold onto a chair because they brake hard, at least on the ones I take. read more

Dangerous Negligence Disguised as a Service I have used and reviewed plenty of services, but what happened to my roommate demands to be documented publicly. She got off her shift at 9 PM and waited for her scheduled pickup until midnight. Three hours. Alone. At night. Her phone had died, and apparently that was enough justification for this company to simply abandon her. No attempt to follow through, no contingency, nothing. A transport service that cancels a ride because they couldn't reach the client instead of just showing up to the scheduled location at the scheduled time is not a transport service. It's a liability. She was stranded and unreachable until a manager happened to notice her still there and let her charge her phone so she could get an Uber home. A stranger's kindness did this company's job for them. A woman alone outside late at night is vulnerable. That is not a dramatic statement. That is reality. The fact that this company's response to a minor obstacle was to leave a client stranded for three hours rather than simply show up speaks to a fundamental disregard for customer safety. Consider this a formal warning: if anything like this happens again, we will be pursuing every legal avenue available to us. A transport service that abandons clients in unsafe conditions has real liability exposure, and we are prepared to act on that. Do not use this service if you value your safety or the safety of anyone you care about. read more

Paratransit schedulkng is horrible. My appointment was scheduled for 1:00pm. Paratransit picked me up at 12:00pm. The transit time was 15 minutes. My appointment lasted until 2:00pm. My return ride was scheduled for 3:00pm. Two additional riders were picked up. I got home at 4:20pm. From start to finish over 4 hours with the appointment lasting less than an 1 hour. The remainder of the time was waiting for paratransit. This is unacceptable. The wait times have gotten progressively longer. read more

The light rail has become unbearable because of the fare checking ecurity staff. They constantly harass riders for no reason, acting like they have a quota to fill. I've had my badge checked multiple times in a single trip, even after they clearly saw it the first time. It feels less like public transit and more like being policed for existing. Busses are always late and no excuse when asking the driver why. As of now supposed to be picked up at 733pm and it shows it going to be late, as well been here for the bus that was supposed to show up at 703pm, never seen that bus, doesn't show that its a detour or anything. Since the inception of the light rail we have used it to attend concerts and ballgames. However we recently attended a Diamondbacks game and used the light rail. We start at Central and Camelback and usually exit near the stadium. NOW, the train stops and we must exit and find another train to the stadium. It was not not easy to even find the location and then we waited and a train never arrived so we walked in the heat of the day the rest of the way to the ball park. Coming back was even more confusing and there was no clear directions on where we go to get back to Central and Camelback. Clearly this light rail is now completely messed up and useless. We were not the only ones trying to figure out how to get to our destination! Also we can no longer buy an all day pass on the app. It requires money to be deposited to an account which you keep until it is used. Further, the scanner at the pickup staion would not even read the app. in conclusion we will never use this monstrosity again unless you fix it! It makes more sense to add a stop to let people off that want to continue on the new southbound section and let the rest of us continue to our destination. You are not promoting downtown events the way you have it now. If you fix it, we might come back! read more

The worst transportation I've ever experienced! Took 8 hours for a 30min interview! Picked up at 8:30am for a 11am appointment at Motility Center. Scheduled to be picked up for return 12-12:30. Picked up at 12:52. Then drove south on 10 to 202 W to drop off passenger. Then drove to Chandler to pick up 3 women at Senior Center. Then had to drive to 3 different locations to drop off off women. Then drove east and south to pick up another passenger. Totally opposite direction from home. Finally arrived home at approximately 3:40. There had to be a better way to route drivers. I'll never take Paratransit again nor will I recommend it to anyone. Sorry my tax dollars are going here!!! By the way, home was 32 miles from Mobility Center. read more

THIS IS THE WORST PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION EVER!!! I DESPISE IT!!! IT IS THE EPITOME OF UNRELIABILITY. The buses are either late or early but hardly ever on time. When they do arrive early, you better hope you are exactly at the bus stop or they will roll right past you as you try to waive them down , trying to run the extra ten feet to the actual stop. I've had bus drivers drive right past me early because I was not at the actual stop. They should not even post times if they are not going to adhere to them. What a hot mess. 2 days ago I rode for free cause the money acceptor thingy wasn't working. Today I paid for a day pass twice because the ticket dispenser thingy wasn't working. On weekends the bus runs once per hour. Weekdays, twice. Its a classic chicken or the egg dilemma, will more people ride if they add more frequent runs? Or will more people riding motivate them to add runs? I give them 3 stars instead of 2 because the busses are somewhat clean and clear of graffiti and MOST of the drivers are nice. read more

ParaTransit's has been a joke since they were sold to another company. People on the phones are rude a lot, and supervisors won't return calls. They change schedules without letting us know, and they either show up way too early and won't wait or we're sitting here wondering if they're ever going to come. Wow, I'm in not synch with the most prevalent rating for Valley Metro which includes the buses, streetcars, and light rail metro trains serving greater Phoenix and the sprawl that is the Valley of the Sun. I guess people don't like the buses as much. The rail listing belongs here - and not in Tempe - together with the whole system. I knew that light rail now existed in this area and I'm really glad I got to ride on it to experience it.  Whenever I see ratings for rail transit systems, I always notice that there are people who are uni-dimensional and focus on one negative attribute or experience with a transit system, such as a few people aboard who are too theatrical or one ticket vending machine that once took their money.  Perhaps the more salient question to ask is how well a metro area would function without their transit system.  That said, I think this system works. The Valley Metro Rail is laid out like a big L.  That's because it follows some of the main freeway arteries. The 17 (from Flagstaff and points north in the metro area) brings people north-south into downtown.  Then, the 10 (and the 17) sweep eastward on both sides of downtown, with one rebranded as the 60 heading out to Mesa and eastern suburbs while the 10 then moves southeasterly toward Tucson, passing through groomed Chandler ... and even giving you a glimpse of IKEA! In so doing, Valley Metro Rail follows the 17 slightly east of it, mostly along Central and then along 19th Avenue.  It aligns with the 10/17 as it goes through downtown and near the airport, which is surprisingly close to downtown.  And it then continues on east toward Tempe and Mesa. Why is Valley Metro Rail good?  One obvious reason is that Phoenix and the surrounding area have mushroomed into being one of America's most populous cities at a very brisk pace and, even if their freeways are generously proportioned, they can get crowded.  Then, with just one line, they covered a lot of bases - downtown, the airport, and the ASU campus, with over 50,000 students enrolled.  They cover some main areas as the leg of the L goes north, such as Central and Camelback.  And they cover some main areas as the leg of the L goes east, such as the communities of Tempe and Mesa.  Note that the system does not go directly into the airport.  However, at the 44th Street station, you transfer onto an elevated and enclosed pedestrian overpass with moving walkways that take you to SkyTrain, a monorail system that is free of charge and loops around to PHX Sky Harbor's terminals. The trains are fairly clean.  The glass has the dots that shield passengers from the solar heat gain to some degree, as do the fabric seats.  A single passage costs $2, if I recall.  A day pass costs $ 4.  That's what I purchased and it's an excellent value.  The local governance wants people out of their cars and on transit because the area is in a valley and can trap smog. There are also park and ride lots at some stations, with ones towards the ends of the route having more parking spaces.  The light rail also interfaces with the bus system at major transit nodes, which will get you to most places you need to go. I'm holding back from 5 stars because, while the one line is very functional, other lines are needed and they are forthcoming.  The area west of downtown, and along the 10, is not yet serviced.  They are considering adding a line here.  They are also considering extending the existing line northward and eastward.  And, finally, they are thinking of a line that goes from downtown south toward Baseline, which sort of skirts the base of South Mountain, which actually holds a massive city park with indigenous plant life and wildlife and provides views of the Valley of the Sun and the city skyline.  With the valley's sprawl, it would have been expensive to put it underground or up on trestles.  The fact that it shares the road with cars on dedicated transitways makes it slow.  The trip from the eastern terminus to downtown takes about 45 minutes but, for the price, you can't complain.  Also, I don't see it going up northwesterly toward Glendale or to posh Scottsdale, but you can take a bus there ... aw shucks!  Riding on the trains when it's crowded is probably a better idea than at odd hours when fewer people are on them.  I felt safe when I rode and saw that tourists were definitely aboard with day passes in hand. There are some lackluster rail systems in American cities. In some cases, these systems are in their infancy stage.  Valley Metro Rail is not one of them and is quite remarkable for operating with just one line.  Also, if here, don't refer to the train system as (the) Metro.  Locals call it the "light rail." read more

Valley Metro desperately NEEDS to raise the bar when it comes to customer service. Taking a Psych 101 course and an Interpersonal Skills Training course should be a requirement for ALL their drivers. I say this because, when I boarded the route 7 Northbound to Deer Valley at about 3:15 this afternoon at Dunlap, I was met with unwarranted hostility from the driver. A heavy set, middle-aged, negro woman with gray hair in a buzz cut. I showed her my pass, and proceeded to find a seat, when she snaps at me to stop, and demanded I hand her my pass. The kiosks and fareboxes have not been working, so I had not activated my pass. The idiot writes today's date in pen (as if someone couldn't write over it with a Sharpie....smh) and hands it back to me. I flat out told her to lose the attitude, and she pretended not to hear me....the phony. Her supervisors best put her in check or fire her. I've got my own drama to contend with, without having to deal with crap bus drivers. read more

We were going to visit Phoenix and thought the metro would be convenient so we placed $50 in our account. We had to cancel our trip and couldn't transfer the money back into our bank account so I emailed customer service. After not receiving a response for two weeks I called customer service. The first call was cut off ( not sure if I was hung up on). I called back and was definitely hung up on during the second call so I emailed customer service again and actually received a response apologizing for our experience and was told that my questions would be forwarded to the appropriate person. Since then, I have heard nothing so I have given up. My advice would be to not use the app and put money in your account because once you do Valley Metro thinks it is their money. Just use the kiosk and pay as you go. read more

Horrible service,I have traveled the country and have rode plenty of buses and trains but valley metro easily ranks as one of the worst. The buses make up their own schedules. Sometimes they come over 15 minutes early and you end up late for work because the bus decided to come over 10 minutes early. Or the bus may decide to show up almost 8 to 15 minutes late. Some of the buses smell like piss because they let the druggies just piss on the seats. It's wild how they charge you for unreliable service. Yesterday I needed to catch the bus for work. It was supposed to come at 4:23 the bus came at like 4:13. I know this because I seen it as I walking down the street to the bus stop. I am constantly late if I don't take a bus at least 2 hours before my scheduled work day just to ensure I won't be late. read more

Stay away from this business. I watched two of their vans racing (speeding) and illegally passing on a very limited line of sight two lane highway. They even had passengers in the vans. We caught up the the vans at a stoplight where I was able to take the picture. No regard for their passengers on others sharing the road with them. Many of the onsite ticket atms are broken Online loses tickets that are bought Online does not have full instructions on how to buy tickets In the app I would like to buy multiple tickets to avoid putting my card out there but beware because the tickets expire. And the app is wrong on the dates and even if they work the dates appear late sometimes, so I fear my tickets will get rejected. The light rail is reliable but sometimes is 2 minutes early, so I have missed it by 30 secs. There are usually security guards, but they cant stop the stink and people throwing food and foul language. read more

One driver skipped out on his route (being the last bus) and told everyone to get off because he "already did it today" and it was supposed to go from Tempe to Scottsdale, I've also been passed 3 times while STANDING at the stop and the drivers have just passed by, a driver even talked shit after I got off one time and threatened me. I literally felt like I was being cradled to sleep. That's how smooth the stops and general driving was and that was in a Double long Bus. Absolute trash public transit system. Cant believe this is what we have to rely on for public transit in a city of our size. I dont think a day goes by where a bus is either late or way too early. Ive sent multiple emails on multiple days with screenshots of buses never showing up, being 30+ minutes late, or passing the nearest stop 10 minutes too early. I have to go 7 miles with 1 transfer, and it takes me an hour and a half on a GOOD day. Bad days im looking at 2 to 2 and a half hours. Such a disappointment. read more

Another terrible experience with the bus transit system. 96 North driver of bus 6893. Pay for a full day ride, only to be told AFTER I PAID that the pass machine wasn't working. Now stuck having to find ATM, find a place that will provide ones, then find another bus with hopefully a driver that does the job. Driver of 6893 actually had the balls to tell me that this situation was my fault. The bill collector clearly displayed the $4 for all day pass sign. Today is August 12,2023 so a incident accrued around 6am w me I got on at Dunlap a female got on at the Northern terminal she randomly sat across from me so about 15 min later I'm minding my own business she rudely interrupted my space and as if I "Threw something " I said no then she started getting crazy threatening to spit on me get me jumped by boyfriend so I clicked button to alert driver and he saw ,so then I got off to switch cart n she spit on me! as I was getting off. She Assaultled me n driver called security yet to assist me valley metro doesn't seem to care about the people who ride .
