It was tricky trying to write a review on this Inn, but this is what I got. When I drove up, I was nervous. It's outdated, and a modern TownPlace Suites by Marriott are right adjacent to the property. However, as you drive to the location you are greeted with modern shops and restaurants. I checked in at the lobby. It's a grandiose lobby, very nice. However, I felt the front desk personal are checking boxes and not super interested in you as a person if that makes any sense. They showed me how to get to my room. My room was located on the second floor of the south building. When you enter there is an interesting smell, and the elevators need an upgrade. However, when you get in thw room, it is very nice! I liked my room. It had it's minor Quirks with the water not draining in the tub, but if i could rate this alone it would be more of a 4. It is noisy. You can hear all the neighbors above and in the halls and to the sides, so be ware of this. read more

UPDATE: Upon request our room was changed. And oh what a difference a smell makes! Went back to that same room because I left an AirPod in it before housekeeping got there. Air conditioner was off and the strong of patchouli oil was so strong about knocked me out. I think somebody in the room before us probably had something to do with the smell. Anyway, I just wanted to say that everybody at Valley River Inn has been very accommodating and helpful. When we were here eight years ago, the place was delightful but now with all the upgrades it is really beautiful and you cannot beat the view of the Willamette River. I'm shocked this hotel has such poor reviews. Does it need some updating? Yes. Are the carpets and elevators a little creepy and dated? Yes. Is the gym small and equipment suuuper limited? Yes, so much so I chose to do a plyo workout sans any of their equipment. But there were so many positives! The staff is extremely courteous and seemed kind and willing to help anyone an everyone with their questions. We came on a day where there was a Christmas tree decoration contest, so the lobby and surrounding areas were beautifully decorated and lit with themed Christmas trees. The lobby itself has a large piano and a constantly lit fire in their large fireplace. It was lovely to sit there with our morning drinks as we waited for the rest of our party. The rooms are very large, with comfortable king beds and a sitting area. We had mini-fridges and microwaves in addition to a writing desk and of course the large tv. I like the setup of these rooms because the bathroom is behind the bedroom, so if one person needs to use it, the light will not wake anyone else up. The sink area has ample space for all your toiletry bags and even has complimentary coffee pods and a keurig. There is a mirrored closet which fit two of our carry-ons, side-by-side, fully opened up. The toilet and shower are behind another door, again offering prime privacy if sharing space with someone else. I love this convenient setup! As you walk down the halls, there are small sitting areas where you can watch the water. There are exits leading to a paved path along the water. Just across the street is a shopping mall, restaurants, nail salon, etc. It's a great location. The Hotel could use some updates, but we were very happy with it! read more

Staying here was a dream... We frequent Eugene and this is one of my favorite places to stay. It is a convenient location next to many eateries and a shopping mall with in a short walking distance. It is gorgeous when you first step inside. There is a beautiful wood trim and a large chandelier above. The 2nd floor is open to look up at. A small game area that includes a ping pong table as you pass by to your room. I like staying here because Valley River Inn has a pool, hot tub, the game area, Sweet Waters restaurant on the 1st floor, and most important, it is PET FRIENDLY. Pets are not allowed above the 1st floor, so be sure to book ahead. The rooms are crisp & clean. The maids do a pretty good job, accept for them it comes to checking out. I can't even make it to my car once without them asking hours before check out if I'm leaving. I know they're just trying to do their job, but it is a little irritating to come back and see them peaking into my room before I get it cleaned out. I stayed for a total of 3 nights and received a near perfect stay. The only other suggestion I would make is to have a designated doggy area and maybe a few extra trash cans so we can dispose of our doggy droppings properly. read more

The hotel as a whole was good. The rooms were nice, there are a lot of areas in and around to hang out. The bar and lounge area were great. Service in the bar was kind of slow, however the drinks were made well and the prices were reasonable. But I would warn anyone with a family that the front desk person in the evening I think it was Josh who you should avoid at all costs. He is tall with glasses is very unprofessional and rude. He didn't like that we had a group of kids with us. We were in town for a baseball tournament. The group of boys are 13 and were walking around the hotel Saturday afternoon and evening. Since they are a large group they were singled out and harassed by him multiple times. I think they raced across the sky bridge at one point, but to me that is minimal and it was mid day, not in the evening. They didn't bang the pianos instead they actually played songs they knew and treated the pianos with the respect they deserve. They didn't break or touch anything. They were just a large group of kids wandering around. I have known and coached these kids for 6 yrs and they are all well behaved and mature for their age. They are 13 however, very respectful. When we as their parents and coaches ask them to stop they immediately stop and it is seldom we need to even address anything they are doing. We have never had issues with a hotel while traveling, until this weekend. At one point "Josh" came and verbally yelled at us as a group of parents. We asked him to calm down and he continued to yell. We agreed to talk to the kids, who all at this point were sitting at a table playing a board game quietly by the way. One of our players got up to go to bed around 9pm and was yelled at and literally forced down the stairs and was restricted from going to his room by "Josh". Again he yelled, and by yelled I don't mean sternly said something, he raised his voice in an extremely aggressive and unprofessional manner while physically blocking a kid from walking down the hall to go to bed. This was so inappropriate. Other guests also in the lobby were commenting to us and making jokes about his behavior. If this isn't addressed by management and is a common practice of the hotel I wouldn't recommend staying here with any sort of team or even with children as they do not seem to value families and teams using their hotel while in Eugene for events. I will add the hotel was full of athletes in town for USA Track and Field tryouts running up and down the halls early in the morning to prepare for their meets which woke me up at 6am, there is a likelihood our players were accosted as a results of others in the hotel who may have been disruptive. read more

Stayed here one night. Ate at the restaurant bar and saw literally a trail of sugar ants cruising across the bar top! In the room the bed was comfy but found all my coffee was decaf and the hairdryer, which was a mount on the wall type, was not mounted - and had never BEEN mounted. Very difficult to use. Oh my, I highly recommend NOT staying at this place. It is creepy outdated 1970s "Clockwork Orange" meets "Get Out" and it creeped the H**L out of me (and my wife). Maybe it was awesome in the 1970s, but it is NOT anymore. It smells...old. Think old cigarettes meets....aging corpses? Hard to say. It just SMELLS. My wife was MOUTH BREATHING, and she's NOT a mouth breather (sorry, no pics). We had a hotel room on the 6th floor (which was actually the 2nd floor..what?) and we didn't see ANY OTHER PEOPLE in that building while we were there. Creepy AF. But one night I did hear a piano playing.... The bathroom didn't have a fan, which was...weird and gross. Coffee maker was....just..nope. Powdered creamer, likely from the 1970s. No microwave in the room. Someone had set the alarm to 6am. WHAT THE F**K?!?! And, the toilet was mounted practically in the middle of the wall...my wife looked like a 5 year old waiting for mommy to wipe her A$$. There was a warning sticker on the sliding glass door telling us to LOCK IT, BECAUSE BAD THINGS HAVE HAPPENED HERE. On the 2nd floor ? Which you call the 6th floor? There was a moth on the ceiling that was STRAIGHT out of "Silence of the Lambs" The remote control didn't work reliably at all. Two words: popcorn ceiling. IT WAS ALL TOO WEIRD. I was afraid to even go into the restaurant. I booked this place via Priceline (the pictures looked nice...), and boy, I will be more careful next time. I try to stay at Valley River Inn each year during the holidays. I grew up on the 'wrong side of the river' over in Springfield, but in the 1970s, Valley River Center was one of the coolest places to hang out. Nowadays, even with the Hult Center close by, I prefer the 1970s ambiance of the Inn. There are hanging lamps made of old saw blades, a nod to my blue collar origins. The bar and Sweetwaters Restaurant are consistently good. The bartender made an excellent Whisky Sour. The menu is classy and prices are good. It is wonderful to enjoy breakfast with the Willamette River flowing right outside. Showers are hot, Keurig Coffee makers have replaced the drip-style coffee makers of former days. Beds are comfortable. Everything I need. I will be back when I can make the drive. read more

Yikes. I work in the food industry & the only thing that saved this visit to Sweet Waters at Valley River Inn was the food. My aunts in a wheelchair & we asked for a place to view the river. We were quoted 30 minutes & we waited over 40. Only after waiting over the quoted time we were informed that there were stairs to get down to tables to see the river. The hostess saw my aunt in the wheelchair when we checked in. She should have informed us that there was no accessible way to get a close view of the river. We settled for a crappy corner table that fits 8 people while we were only 4 with a very small view of the river. We waited another 15 minutes to be greeted & we placed our order right away. After 10 minutes we were informed they were out of a dish we ordered. Our food finally arrived an hour after ordering. Food was good, but not worth the service. Our server was no where to be found at the end of dining. We had to ask the bartender who was swamped to find our server. We chose Sweet Waters over McMenamins & that was a huge mistake. If you want a view of the river choose McMenamins OR literally bring a picnic to the park it's a better option. We won't be back. read more

Not sure when this place went down hill but it doesnt have much further to fall before it cant go no further. Paid for a river view received a parking lot view. Was really looking forward to a nice comfortable bed and it was just a little more soft than sleeping on the floor. They had a security officer socializing in the lobby but he never responded to the noise complaint we filed. There was a party on our floor that we could hear down the hall as well as feel the bass as it vibrated the hunks of wood they spray painted silver and slapped on the wall as decor. (Yes that is Classy) made for a good nights sleep. At the restaurant, we were really looking forward to some fresh seafood and a good steak/prime rib. Best thing on the plate was the mashed potatoes. Everything else was served cold, or had a lot of fat/grizzle. The crab topping add on we ordered for the fondue was extra fishy smelling. We scrapped it off and ate the bread and cheese. Nither one of us got sick so it may have been okay but not worth the risk. It wasnt supper busy and they could have treated us a little better as they were open till 10pm and it was approaching 9pm. Not our server but the one in the section next to ours started vacuuming two tables away from us. (So romantic on valentines day) and he even came over and started clearing our table while we were still eating and waiting for our desert to be delivered. May have been okay had he asked permission before touching my plate and he Didnt even ask if we wanted a box for the leftovers we had to ask our server for one. Nice lodgey type of hotel very close to a mall and a bunch of outdoor activities. The rooms were decent sized and all had balconies. My room was on the first floor so my balcony faced the inside of a courtyard which was nice. I didn't use it but there was a pool and fitness center as well. The hotel was lovely... our location was overlooking the river & we absolutely enjoyed the 4 mile hike around the river. We are at the restaurant for breakfast & it was delicious. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 rating is our door to the room did not completely shut every time we left. Which after the 1st time gave me a tad anxiety trying to remember if we made sure we slammed it shut after that realization. The other was the sliding door was extremely hard to unlock to open & definitely to close. I can't totally blame them because if I had said something I know it could have been fixed or put in another room. Their customer service was very nice that the front desk did credit us for the overnight parking to say they were sorry. I would definitely stay here again & highly recommend it to anyone! read more

I randomly ended up here through a Priceline room bid and when I arrived I remember thinking "This must be considered a 3-star hotel because of what it once was..." This is definitely an older hotel... but that doesn't really stop me from enjoying my stay. The gal that greeted us was very nice and we had a random conversation about common/uncommon names for a few minutes. The room we got was huge with two queen sized beds and a balcony that looked out onto the courtyard. The bed was an okay level of comfortable, but the covers were a bit thin. The TV was older than what I'm used to seeing in hotels and I was a little surprised when I couldn't find a mini-fridge in the room. The experience was alright... until the shower. The metal shower head had cracks in it that sprayed water all over the place. I couldn't comfortably look up toward the ceiling because the spray bothered my eyes too much. Then there was the cold drip (in the shower) and apparently mold in the corner where the cold drip was coming from. We mentioned this to the staff upon check-out and they seemed very concerned and a little confused because there is no room above the one we were staying in. (We're guessing rain water.) We took the little bee home tour around the property at the end of the stay and decided that this place really did look more like an apartment complex than a hotel. read more

Not sure they are meeting the basic requirements to be open during a pandemic! Or really anytime! I had to switch rooms twice. The first room had a strange hair in the shower, gunk on the walls, sticky floors.. The next room was even worse! Taped up sliding glass door... vomit in the toilet hinge! Water spots on the counters! I went downstairs to let them know. They sent someone back to reclean and fix sliding glass door. When I came back to the room I ask Hans to do a walk through with me. He said that there wasn't vomit in the toilet that it was RED toilet bowl cleaner! Please?! Than he said the water spots were permanently there, so I took a wash cloth in front of him and wiped the counter, they were gone! Still Hans insisted they would come back, they didn't. He continued to under mind me and explaining how this was all fine. And clearly lie to my face. I asked to speak to a manager by the end of the day or at least hear back from Hans on what they could do to help or make things better. That never happened. If there are water spots on the counter I can tell you that room was not cleaned! In the room change I left my charger in the first room. I went to the front desk to ask if they found it. They told me that they did not, because the room haven't been cleaned yet. The funny thing was is I saw a woman having a cigarette on the patio of that room... The front desk double checked! What do you know they did "clean" the room and it had a new person in it... Still didn't find my charger. They say they will ship it, but I doubt it. I understand that it is hard for Bussiness right now, but this one isn't even trying. I'm writing this because I have two small children with me and I hope other moms considering staying here steer clear! Still haven't spoke to a manager... I will never stay there again! We upgraded to a river-view room, which seemed a good move. Sitting on the balcony in the evening and morning alongside the river was very relaxing. Later in the evening, the balconies seem to be the site of parties, so it's considerably less peaceful and smells of weed. The room was clean but something about the dated furniture and decor made me feel I needed to check one more time to see if the sheets had really been washed. The TV is massive, however, so some upgrade money has been spent somewhere. All the staff we encountered were friendly and warm, with the notable exception of a front-desk supervisor who was training a new employee. While "Hans" wasn't unfriendly, he lacked the warmth or inclination to engage with guests. Even when the guest in front of me revealed she was in town for her mother's funeral, there no response. Fortunately, the new employee he was training seemed warmer-blooded and eased some of the awkwardness. I'm accustomed to some level of friendly chat at check-in, and at least a rundown of amenities, etc. There was none of that here. Bikes available for rental? News to me. Restaurant open or closed? I had to ask. Pool open during COVID? Ask or you won't know the answer. My check-in seemed to be viewed as a task that had to be completed, not an opportunity to engage a new customer and build the brand. Wouldn't stay here by choice, but I travel for work and don't get a choice in where I stay. Pros: The lobby is very nice! There are lots of things for you to do in the lobby if you feel like hanging out in the hotel. There is ping pong, a little area with games set up, and a puzzle. There is a good restaurant connected to the hotel for convenience. You can rent bikes for $7.50 an hour and there's a great trail right outside of the hotel that leads to downtown. The trail is great, definitely recommend! Staff is friendly (although understaffed, will get to that in the cons). Good shampoo and conditioner. Cons: Super outdated room... gives off a creepy vibe! Has anyone experienced anything supernatural here, lol... asking for a friend. The room feels dirty... I mean it's not the cleanest. I was questioning whether my pillow cases were changed or not because there were several hairs on them. That was unsettling. The doors are super old school, a little hard to lock. The walls are pretty thin, you can can hear all your neighbors, people walking in the halls, and EVERY TIME someone slams their door. Understaffed at the front desk. I waited for about 25 minutes to rent bikes for the fact only one person was working at the front desk. She was working hard, but I felt bad for her because she was extremely busy. Overall, a survivable hotel. Meaning I wouldn't choose to stay here and if I had to, it would only be for short stays. read more

Nice game room in the lobby with a puzzle challenge, where, if you finish the puzzle, you can get $15 off in the restaurant, which will come in handy. The large chandeliers made me feel like I was at the king's feast. The long, carpeted hall floors creak a bit in this older hotel. Large rooms with fridge, coffee maker and no microwave. This hotel is located next to a mall and right on the river. It's also a pet, friendly hotel, with pet water bowls at the check-in desk, and dog treats in a jar. Staff was very friendly, loved the extra nice van driver, Candy, who drove us to the Best Buy and back. They were all accommodating and willing to please. Nice shower, but obnoxiously loud fan automatically comes on with the light, so I just showered in the dark. I loved the large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower, which cuts down on waste. The shower floor also creaked a lot under my weight. Very comfy towel. We ate dinner at the Sweet Waters Restaurant. I was warned that it was not cheap, but with the mall and restaurants next door, it's nice to have an option for a nice restaurant with river views. I had the calamari, which was very good, served with a tangy sesame sauce. My co workers really enjoyed the flavored popcorn ($6) and the salmon salad. Nice pool area, but lots of kids. This location has been the home of an event I've attended for three years. I'm confused about why the lighting is so terrible in the parking lots. It's actually unsafe. The lobby is also too dark and has awkward construction (pillars and walls instead of a more open flow). I have enjoyed the food the hotel prepares, and they have a decent selection of wine. Nowhere I could attend on my own. Never stayed in their rooms, just the banquet hall. read more

Worse than motel 6. This place was such a disappointment. We booked a double for one night and it was near $160 a night. When we entered our room, we got a good wiff of a horrendous smell. It smelled so bad ~ chemicals, cat liter, old carpet, and cigarettes combined!! This place is very scary to sleep in. The sheets are extremely cheap and looked like they haven't been replaced for decades. I was almost too scared to use them. Pillows were extremely hard and high. We weren't happy but decided just to stick through it for one night. This is by far the worse hotel i've ever been to. Don't book this place! These guys are swindlers of the worst sort. We had a reservation on Expedia that had been confirmed over a month, yet when we showed up they said they couldn't find it, though I showed it to them on my phone. They said that I would have to call Expedia to verify with them. They said this all in a very rude and dismissive way. Once Expedia called them they told Expedia that we had canceled the reservation, which of course we had not. And they informed me they had rooms available but wouldn't honor the reservation at the price we had confirmed, instead proposing to charge us several hundred dollars more. I was also very disappointed just walking in this place. It wasn't nearly as nice as it looked on the website. It looked like a dump. We found a place down the road for less money that was recently renovated and very friendly (Hayward). Avoid the Valley River Inn altogether! read more

Was not a fan of this Inn, read the reviews on trip advisors and was certain we were doing the right thing. Walls are paper thin, the room next to us had 3 kids yelling and screaming for a good 20 minutes at midnight. It felt like they were right in our room. Room smells like cat liter and cigarettes. Luckily we were only there for the night. Kudos to the front desk and security guard for the quick response on the noise complaint. Without you guys our night would've been hell. I used to go to school at UO and remembered the Valley River Inn having a really good reputation, which is why we booked it. Not sure when they went so downhill but it is pretty bad. Let's start off with our experience checking into the hotel. We arrived late since we drove down from Portland - around 5:30pm. When we arrived we were notified that our room wasn't ready and they would call us when it was. The young lady at the front desk seemed annoyed with us, which was totally unexpected. We left to "kill time" and they didn't call us until 7pm - check in time is 4pm! We came back to check in and a young man was at the desk this time. When we asked to have a late checkout, we were met with attitude, like the guy was doing a us a huge favor and it was a total inconvenience for him. Eye rolls and everything. I was so agitated by the poor customer service but at that point I just wanted to settle in and get some good sleep. Once we got into our room we were very disappointed. We thought since it took them 3 hours to clean it, we would have a nice room. Boy we were wrong! The place was gross, visibly dirty, especially the bathroom - brown rings in the toilet, filthy shower. And there was no comforter on the beds. They thought just adding an extra sheet would do the trick. Not saying it's related (but it probably is due to how dirty the place was) my sister ended up getting Covid 5 days later. Would never stay here again and will never recommend. In fact, if anyone asks me where to stay in Eugene I will tell them DO NOT stay here. read more

Last straw! Our family has stayed at VRI many times. 3 weeks in the last 3 years and thousands of dollars spent. Tonight, our 7 year old slipped on the antiquated shiny tile in the bathroom, split open her chin very badly, four stitches and thousand more spent for an ER visit. We asked front desk if we can late checkout so daughter can convalesce for a few more hours before a flight. Valley River Inn gave us 1 hour extra. This is insane. The last time we stayed here was in February of 2022 for a week. The room was disgusting, dirty, mildewed, and smelled of damp pet. We returned this trip just for the convenience of mall and restaurants nearby. Very saddened by the hotel and the lack of empathy, especially since our injury happened on their property. read more

I really like this hotel, in fact we stayed here the night after our wedding before leaving on our honeymoon and had a decent experience. We are moving back to Eugene after a couple of years in the Portland area and decided to book a Riverview King since it is also pet friendly, and we didn't really want to kennel our pup while we signed and closed on our house. The staff was friendly upon arrival and it seemed like this was going to be another good experience. But so far this trip is turning out not so great. First of all, we now have a 3 year old, and there is no way to lock the room from the inside to keep the little escape artist from running out. Rolled a chair in front so at least we had a little warning before the little bugger decided to make a dash. Secondly, and worse, we got into the room and unpacked and got settled and my wife went to the bathroom/off-room sink and noticed an ant. No big deal, right? But we called the front desk and they stated that they could put us in a different room. But we had already unpacked and the room was close to an exit door for us to take our dog out to do his business. So we decided to stay put instead of trying to managed all out stuff to another room. Plus, we are from Eugene originally so one or two ants are not a big deal. Took some Lysol wipes and killed the little bugger and used the wipes to remove the ant trail so no more could follow the scent trail. Woke up at 5:45 am to get ready for work and I noticed we were overrun with ants. A proverbial highway going from the bathroom doorway to another area behind the mirror and out somewhere else in the hotel. I am guessing they were looking for Narnia, because they are not stopping for anything in our room. The ants were so bad that when I had taken a few steps to try to shower, I noticed that their were dead ants on the bottoms of my feet. That always makes the morning more enjoyable. The amount of ants in the room, the hotel had to have known their was an issue, and they either ignored it or did not address it correctly. We would need to move now. I went to front desk and asked to change rooms, but since our kiddo was sleeping we would have to wait until the whipper snapper was up and at em. The front desk offered us a couple of breakfast vouchers and would help to facilitate the move. We got moved to a junior queen which sucked to lose the king bed, but overall a bigger room. They were extremely nice about it and the staff was really good about getting the problem taken care of. That is why 3-stars instead of 1. read more

It's been a hard days drive from Issaquah WA to here. Arrived at 5:30 to be told that our two rooms are not ready and won't be for at least 1 and a half hours! We stayed here on the way to WA also. They refuse to take reservations for dinner so yet again both stays a long wait. Why fully book if you do not have staff to support it! The restaurant manager laughing told a person at the bar after answering a call and saying "we don't take dinner reservations" that she must get 28 calls a day with that same question! While the setting is beautiful the situation is not. read more

Came from Boston area to visit friends. Booked specific accommodations, King Deluxe w/river views. Received confirmation of Delux King room w/river views etc. When we arrived the clerk ask for our name, she then went into, what seemed to be a SCRIPTED story of, we had a plumbing issue with your room so we "Up Graded" you and we will wave parking fees also. What we got was a double queen room with river views. They call that a Upgraded. This is clearly BATE AND SWTCH TACTICS. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. CLEARLY A REGULAR FORM OF THEFT as practice. read more

The hotel pictures show a quiet leisurely view of the river which I could only see from the hotel restaurant/bar but outside has a nice walking trail. The hotel actually sits next to a large mall and outside strip mall so plenty of shopping, eateries and local cinema. The hotel boasts of visits from Elvis Presley and has the story and pictures in the hall. Check-in and check-out was smooth and the hotel had a free shuttle to and from the airport. The walk to the room on the first floor was oddly winding and twisting past a very large ground floor 'fire room'. A large fireplace, seating area was interesting and welcoming. The room was clean and had a large TV which I appreciated. The beds were comfortable and plenty of plug-ins near the bed. read more

I'll forever kick myself for not reading reviews of this hotel before making a non-refundable reservation. Thankfully it was only 1 night of 8 nights away on a road trip. Pros: Front desk girl working upon check-in was very friendly. We didn't get murdered during our stay. Cons: The entire hotel smelled like they sprayed dollar store perfume over every square inch of carpet to hide other terrible smells. Once we got to our room, the toilet paper dispenser fell off the first time we tried to use it. Because I'm a germ freak, I always wipe down doorknobs and bathroom fixtures when we stay at hotels. After wiping down the bathroom door handle, the Lysol wipe was BROWN. You could actually physically see the filth on multiple surfaces in our room. How is this hotel legally in business? It was our first time in Eugene. I would recommend other road trippers, keep driving, don't slow down. You're missing nothing. We went from Ashland to crater lake and Eugene was our stopping point before Portland. Wishing we had driven straight to Portland. read more
