We were seated on time for our party of 9. The grounds are beautiful and there is plenty of covered seating available. The food was ok. We enjoyed our meal but nothing stood out to me. The brunch/lunch menu has a lot of options. The pizza was not thin and crispy, it was more doughy if you like that. I didn't mind it. Guacamole was really good- they used real avocados and the spinach dip was good too. The crab cake was very greasy, the bimbop and chicken sandwich seemed to be a table favorite. The servers and bartenders were friendly and we did feel rushed. We would go back again to try other food options. They also had a nice dessert menu and a list of fun cocktails but we didn't try any. read more

Wow Valley Rock Inn is simply gorgeous! I've been meaning to visit here for at least a year and it was never in the stars for me. It's right in Sloatsburg tucked in behind another bar on Old Rt 17 - I've passed by and never realized it! We came to have Sunday Brunch/Lunch at the Cantina and were very impressed! It was the weekend of Halloween so it was still decorated with lots to look at. Drink-wise, we started with the Rose and the Pink Cobbler which was like a fruity twist on an Old Fashioned. We ordered the Shaved Brussel Sprouts pizza to share along with the Lobster Crisps to start. The lobster was YUM. It was a cold lobster served with house chips. The pizza was great! It wasn't heavy and included fall flavors such as butternut squash. For dessert, we shared the ricotta zeppoles which came with a chocolate sauce. Service was excellent. Valley Rock Inn Cantina is a little slice of heaven away from the noises of NYC and yet you don't feel like you're in Rockland County. It's hard to explain but it transports you to somewhere else. We went to the Lodge Steakhouse for the first time after several wonderful meals at the Cantina. The setting was absolutely breathtaking. We felt like we were walking through a fairytale-like winter wonderland in Idaho or Jackson Hole. It had just snowed and truly looked magical. Perfect landscape design and and lighting. The dining room itself is equally elegant, decor is on point, upscale and super-tasteful, and atmosphere is fantastic. We were SO excited about the drinks, wine and food menus. Ordered liberally to try a lot of different things, and... womp womp. While the plating and presentation of all we ordered was perfect, the taste did not rise to the level of the presentation. The martini had a strange undertone, The Pinot was thin and underwhelming. The oysters all had pieces of shell in them from how they were shucked that then had to be fished out from one's palate (and there's no way to do that that's not awkward at a full table). The octopus was overcooked. They serve garlic biscuits, which were tasty but we didn't finish them bc no one was blown away. The duck - skin was scored properly but not given enough time time crisp or pan not hot enough, so served soggy, tho the meat was done correctly. All dishes sat upon a turnip puree, with the duck having additional (also soggy veggies), and the steak having additional shredded cabbage. French fries came out nearly cold but in a nice metal basket lined with parchment. They looked perfect and then the bite was, well, not hot. Mashed potatoes were good. Presented well. Perhaps the highlight of the evening? The service was very good, by the way. Staff was fantastic. It's just that something was a near miss on the food... very heavy handed, the unique tastes and freshness of the ingredients cooked out of many... a very different experience than had in the cantina, where the food has been perfect each time. 2 Coffees, 2 sodas, 1 martini and one glass of wine, 2 apps, 3 entrees, and one dessert with standard tip came out to just under $500. It's a lot for an underwhelming meal. Food wise, if I were to recommend a fine dining establishment where the food is superlative for the same price, I'd say Hudson House in Nyack, hands down. While they don't have the same ethereal setting, the culinary aspect cannot be beat. They do have oysters that are shucked correctly and a killer steak au poivre with pomme frites that's incredible. Perhaps we'll try this place again in the future. Not sure if it's new? Only just learned about the Lodge Steakhouse part, so who knows. Summary: Overall, gorgeous setting, food presentation. This review is for the Cantina. We've also been to the other restaurant that's a little more upscale. The drinks & food are great as well. We decided to try the cantina because I thought the menu sounded even better. We started with the brussel sprouts cause we were really hungry. I got the short rib, it was really good & a big portion. My husband got the chicken Milanese. The presentation was beautiful & my husband enjoyed it. The drinks were great here too. I forgot which margarita we got but it was so good! We sat at the bar but I think when the weather is nice & it's open air I would get a table. The fire pits outside are really nice & welcoming too if you decided to hang out longer. read more

And the walk from the entrance to the Cantina is a little far (first time so we didn't know). The Hostess seating is was very impatient with Mom. Walked way ahead of us and kept looking back as to say,"can you move a little faster". She finally turned around and told us she was going back to other people and will return after she would seat them. She left us. Not so nice and we kinda felt snubbed. So.... After a 5K run/hike in the area, Valley Rock Inn was a great location to get recovery and lunch in before heading back home. My run club used the terf area near the outdoor dining tables for post-workout group stretching and had a delicious lunch of salad and pizza. The salad greens were fresh and the dressing, which looked like a mixture of olive oil, lemon, and other seasonings, was a light and flavorful addition to the salad. Oven baked pizzas were tasty and not too heavy with thin crusts. We were able to try the pepperoni, brussel sprouts, and Neapolitan pizzas. The only drawback was that a few of the pizzas had sections that were burnt, especially the pepperoni edges. Overall, the food was delicious and the grounds are lovely, making Valley Rock Inn a good stop if you are in the area. read more

Absolutely LOVE everything about Valley Rock Inn. The houses you stay in as a guest are so comfortable and make you feel right at home. Each morning you are dropped off pastries, fruit and coffee/tea and it is such an elevated touch to your stay. The property is stunning and there are so many good spots to enjoy a cup of coffee or cocktail. They have an amazing pool and fire pit areas as well. Another bonus to this property is the cantina restaurant on-site, the food is to die for. There is also the cutest market on-site as well that has all the snacks, drinks, sweet treats your heart could desire. If you ever get a chance to stay here I highly recommend it. read more

I've been to valley Rock many times across seasons, and have always loved ambiance. More recently I went for Easter brunch. Never looked at the menu in advance but was disappointed to see just the standard lunch menu. Burgers, sandwiches, etc. Yes it included an appetizer and desert but was simply the lunch menu with an up charge flat fee per person. No drinks included. So for 4 people with tip...drumroll...just under $400. Had this been a Vegas or NYC buffet - okay, I get it. But lobster rolls and potato chips with a glass of wine? Come on. read more

Met my two cousins and another friend here for a cocktail and some food. The indoor bar was awesome. Music perfect level. Saturday night was empty at first at 5:30pm. Cassie our bartender was great. I had a Part Time Lover cocktail (bitter like a Negroni but lighter. Perfect aperitif) followed by the Icelandic Pear (a little sweeter. Refreshing) The walk to the bar from the parking lot was a trail of beautiful lighting. Perfect spot for a wedding. Four of us decided to eat at the bar and split a few dishes. It's an amazing place. You feel like you've stepped into another world as soon as you turn off of old 17 and drive down the little road. There's 2 places to eat, and I was treated to the loveliest birthday dinner. Our waitress, Laura, was phenomenal. Funny, sweet and attentive. We totally lucked out with her! The food is so delicious and there's Vegan options right on the menu! You need reservations, so plan accordingly. I can't describe how beautiful the grounds are. I hope that my photos can capture how magical it looks. We sat in the enclosed area with heaters- as freezing as it was last night, you'd never know it as it was so comfortable and warm. We had the guac appetizer, and the chips had a delicious seasoning on them. The Brussels sprouts were well roasted and delicious as well. I opted for the Soba Noodle with kimchi vegan side dish (made into a larger dinner portion). This is a cold dish and flavorful. There are some reasonably priced wines by the glass and cocktails. They don't skimp- the pours are generous, which I appreciate. I was treated to a special sparkling candle by Laura, which was so sweet. I highly recommend this beautiful eatery and grounds if you want to go somewhere for a very special time. I look forward to going back. My time there was wonderful. read more

I won't return to Valley Rock Inn. 3 out of our group of 4 did not eat their lunch. The tuna had a strong fishy smell. The fried chicken was inedible. The salad was floating around in an ocean of soybean oil and no one ate that either. Our waitress never asked how our lunch was until after the busboy removed our plates. Then she said we should have told her! She did not adjust our bill we paid for all that awful food. The music was too loud to talk. It had a cheesy atmosphere, the restaurant surrounded by astroturf! This is one of the cutest places I've been to in a while. The whole area is rustic and beautiful, with fire pits and greenery everywhere. It's semi outside, but they have a ton of heaters to keep the area warm. I wish I could say the ambiance was worth the price tag for the meal - but it's not. When I saw that the Bloody Mary was $15, I was excited to see what they do to spruce it up. I was severely disappointed when a regular, run of the mill drink was placed in front of me. It was good, but not $15 good. My friend's $12 Bellini actually made me gasp. The wine glass was filled less than 1/2 way and they threw in a flower to make it seem elegant. The food is ok. The polenta bites could have definitely used more hot honey, as I could barely taste any. The truffle fries had good flavor, but were not crisp. My husband thought his short ribs and eggs were amazing. My short rib tacos were ok, at $26 - I expected better flavor than what I could get at any chain restaurant. My friend's Lobster Roll was an actual crime. At $38 - it was the saddest hotdog bun, barely filled with lobster and a handful of fried potato slices. I was appalled. The Valley Rock Cantina is adorable. The staff is nice enough and the ambiance is gorgeous. I was super excited to try this place, but was let down. The ambiance is definitely a 5. I really enjoyed the vibe and overall aesthetic of the grounds. It's really warm despite it being outside and it was nice to have the heaters near your seat. For drinks we had Bellinis and bloody Mary's an a pomegranate margarita. They were all OK but for the price it was just basic ( I don't know that you should charge more to add a flower to a Bellini). We have the truffle fries and polenta bites for an appetizer. I think the polenta bites were the best part of the meal. The fries were a bit limp so they weren't that good. I had the burger for my entree, it looks really good but lacks flavor and was over cooked. My friends entrees were only so so. Honestly nothing really wowed us and it wasn't worth the price they charged. My burger was $27 and my husbands lobster roll was $38. read more

What a unique place in what seems like the middle of nowhere. This charming resort which can dual as merely a dining establishment or weekend get away is not to be missed. We went there on a busy exceedingly chilly Saturday night in November to celebrate some milestone birthdays in our family. The place is expansive with an all outdoor dining venue known as the Cantina, along with guest houses for lodging and an on-site cafe. The owners have lovingly put so much into this inn and there is more development in the works. I am told that visitors can stay doe the hiking, skiing and golf activities depending on the season. We dined amidst tons of heaters which made it toasty and comfortable on what would become a pretty frigid evening. The vibe is trendy but classy. The servers are super attentive and really hustle as they scurry around the bar patio and to the various outdoor dining spots nicely situated around the featured bar area. The cocktail list is ample and creative. Most of the drinks are made with very local spirits. If you're looking for Ketel One vodka or run of the mill tequila you're out of luck. The mixology all by itself is a reason to go. But the food is also quite good. We shared almost every appetizer on the menu between our party of 8. From the guacamole to the octopus to the crispy polenta bites and the white truffle pie, nothing disappointed. The mussels were yummy, the burrata creamy and divine. I ended up with the filet entree which was cooked pretty rare. I like it more medium rare but the cut was so high quality, that I didn't mind the temp! The squash accompaniment was a nice side. The whole branzino and tuna BLT were standouts, but it was the soba noodles with short rib that garnered the most rave reviews. And boy were they yummy. We shared a Belgian waffle strawberry short cake concoction that was worth the extra calories. I can't wait to come. Visions of this place in spring are now dancing in my head! An oasis in the woods of Sloatsburg! Met my friends for lunch at the market. The place was difficult to find as there is no signage from the street & the GPS left me at a location behind a building & next to the train commuter parking. The entrance is to the left of the coffee place where a very low sign is placed. My suggestion to the owners is to invest in good signs as you would never know this place was there. The setting is quite lovely. You walk through a small store with with local vegetables & through there is a yard with 3 fire pits & a large restaurant with open sides. The restaurant is rustic with nice lighting, cool farmhouse tables & a cozy couch area. This place has not been opened long & is only open 1 day a week for lunch (food can't be ordered till 1pm -- strange! & dinner ends at 7:30 pm although you can have drinks till 9 pm). This place also has a pool & an indoor restaurant is being built. There are also some cottages on site that you can stay in. The food at the market was delish! We enjoyed thin crust pizza, curry soup, & roasted potatoes along with drinks of course. Prices are on the expensive side. The owners takes pride in the town & contribute to town outings & local events which is great! Definitely come check this place out as it's a wonderful place to enjoy a meal/drink! read more

This place is an oasis-and only about a 20 minute drive from our home in Bergen county. So many people slamming this restaurant for the eight dollar a person cover charge... We were able to enjoy many, many delightful meals during the middle of winter-AND during Covid. So many people that don't own a restaurant (or small business) clearly don't understand the cost and expense of running an operation-not only in a pandemic (and after being closed for who knows how long!) but also an operation that is more like a resort than just a place to dine. Tip-We always go early (or stay afterwards) and enjoy a glass of wine by the fire pit... The atmosphere is upscale and has a super fun vibe--and we've always had excellent service (including from the management team) It clearly states that there is a cover charge before you go-so for those that are surprised-that's a shame! Maybe they didn't do their research? We will continue to go and support this lovely place and their wonderful hardworking staff-and bring our out-of-town friends, who have all enjoyed it every single time without complaint of the service fee. read more

Everything was super fresh- polenta fries with nice dipping sauce - simple menu of pizza - burger and quiche seems basic but the preparation and ingredients were so good. $7.95 resort fee per person still in tact... but the grounds are so beautiful I can totally justify this. We had a party of 20 at 12:30 on Saturday and we were all surprised and impressed. 5 children mother with grandkids and in-laws. Fire cauldrons were surrounded by comfortable chairs. Kudos One came in from NYC by train. Elizabeth was gracious and accommodating, staff attentive and food superlative. Mom had lobster roll and someone else ate roll. Best roasted Brussel sprouts.
