Pros: - Huge thrift store - Lots of items and variety - Pay attention to the sale of the day (usually posted on the window right as you enter) if you want additional savings. Cons: - They staple the price tag onto the clothes so you could rip, tear, etc. during removal (if the staple it itself didn't cause damage). - For items and knickknacks, they tend to add some sort of Sharpie line onto the price tags so you're left with the small Sharpie mark on nearly everything - It gets pretty packed and the purchasing line can be quite long, particularly at the end of the day before they close. - Some prices can be a little on the higher end for a thrift store, especially for things that aren't even name brand. Everything was good until I went to check out; I forgot it was cash so I went to the atm and the cashier told me she would hold onto my items. When I got back, she said she "didn't think I was coming back" (It had only been about 5 minutes) and my items were now on some random restock rack. Love this store. Always something new to pick up whenever I'm here. Only thrift store I know where whenever I stop by I can find fave brands: Chicos, Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger - most of the time in my size, sometimes too big or too small but they are there for the right buyer. The housewares and kitchen area is cool too, I found a large vintage stainless steel copper colander and a hand crank retro coffee grinder one trip, and a unique cast iron cookie mold pan with sea creatures. First time here and I got to say that I'm a little impressed. It's really big and organized for a thrift store. It is cash only but they do have an ATM that makes it easier to shop knowing you got access to fast cash! I am giving them 4 stars due to customer service. I was walking down a semi crowded aisle with customers on the left side just standing there with their carts and some customers just standing there on the right with their carts when a working with a cart smashes her cart into mine and then had the nerve to give me dirty looks as she shoves my cart so she can get through. I've had such an awful experience today, it really ruined my day. The manager I believe her name was Jocelyn was so rude, I found a necklace that I wanted to buy and the girl was showing it to me and then all the sudden this lady comes from behind me yelling at me are you going to buy that? And then the manager was in my face are you going to get it if not I'm selling it to my friend. I was like in shock you know. I said yeah I'm going to get it. Then they tell me it's cash only at the register. So I was like well you guys got to give me time to go to the bank. She tells me I got 30 minutes and if I'm not back she's selling it to her friend. I got back in 40 minutes cuz there was so much traffic and then you got to wait in line at the bank. So I basically wasted like 3 hours on my day cuz when I got back she had sold the necklace and put all the jewelry that I had picked up back. Unbelievable the rude service here. Major discrimination, I arrived to look at jewelry and asked if I needed a number, the young girl behind the counter told me I had to stand in line on the feet on the ground which I did while I waited for her to help a lady at the counter (about 8 min) they brought out more jewelry. They had the lady get back in line ahead of me while they put it out(which took about 10 min). Meanwhile a man with a shopping cart came up next to the lady in front of me. The girl behind the counter called the lady up to use her "3 min" to choose so since the atm was next to the counter I decided to get the cash for the item I wanted. My cash was dispersing when the girl looked at me l was literally 2 feet from her and I said my cash is coming I would like the bag of jewelry. She then tells me I have to get back in line because I wasn't there in front of her although I was. The man then precedes to buy the bag I wanted. Then my turn I asked her if he's a regular and she says yes, so not only was I discriminated against because I am white, but because I was a new person(not calling myself a customer because I will never spend a dime in there again). Before covid my sister was a big regular there and we both spend tons of money on jewelry, never again there. I was told it used to be amvets but the name was taken away from them (millionaire lawyers in Hollywood own it) because they were only giving 1% to veterans. I like going here to search for vintage vogue sewing patterns. This place is always packed, have a musty dusty smell so can't be in there for too long. Make sense why the workers sometimes wear nose mask. Carry a mask when going there on a Wednesday or Saturday cuz that's when I really get the hit so I now avoid Wed and Saturday . Busy crazy days. I prefer slow days with less discounts so I don't have to wait an hour to pay for 1 item. Some of the workers can be rude. They don't say hello and will push you out of their way without saying a word! The bathroom is always being cleaned...if you get my drift Everything is over priced which is why I don't look. Once found a used free people dress for $60! Really? I can get that at Macy's for that price. They sell 4 patterns for $2 = 50 cents each BUT won't sell 1 for 50 cents ‍ Bought a fabric there got home and saw that the original price on the fabric is lower and they marked it up instead of down!! This store is HUGE and very well organized. The clothes are color coordinated in the racks which is very helpful. I was on the hunt for an 80s style prom dress and though I found many just none really in my size. Big let down is that there is no dressing rooms here and although the parking lot is huge parking is still difficult to find. So you got to be patient. I'd come here again if I needed a theme outfit. Their social distancing measures have worsened significantly and it seems as if people running the store aren't paying attention to the number of people allowed inside stores based on California's tiered system restrictions. Ironically, their store has become even more cramped, stuffy, and uncomfortable since before the pandemic and I've come here since Summer 2017. Somehow, they have far more people shopping in here than before the pandemic. That would normally be fine because demand for thrift stores continues to increase but we're in the midst of a pandemic so there should be much fewer people shopping at any given time. The local thrift stores to me in Encinitas, and Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Savers thrift store branches all have enough space between shoppers and a better selection of books and clothes. Their selection lately has dried up lately and it isn't worth waiting 30 minutes in line for any of the books and games I saw. Most of the books seem are just the usual reference material like old SAT, GRE, and AP books and old textbooks and teaching resources. Possibly, the fiction section is better. Consequently, I would just browse the store for a bit and then leave. The worst part is that the lines are so crowded that they run into the book and games section at the back wall so it's nearly impossible to browse books without many shoppers and their shopping carts getting in the way. read more

Okay as far as location and product availability go, five stars. This place is orgaized and clean! I appreciate how they bag up books and toys in bundles. Every piece of clothing is color coordinated and the inventory is HUGE!! I got a lot of really great items. The bad, is I almost had a panic attack in there. Its wall to wall people, including staff that are making sure at all times it stays organized (appreciated) but when I cant get a cart through, I get claustorphobic. Okay then I had to check out, cash only by the way. The line can get to the back of the store, the good is they use every single cash register possible. Like I said its just that busy. The panic attack started setting in for good after I had been in line for 30 minutes while a white man and immigrant screamed at the top of their lungs over politics escalating to a point where there was name calling. Cash only thrift store.... A lot better than the old Amvets that sold crap. I've been amazed by some of the random gems I've come across here: Louis Vuitton purse for 13 bucks (my mom swears it's real as she compared it to her real LV bag haha), Tory Burch wallet for 3 bucks (fake or real? Who cares, score!), books that look like they were barely read for a buck or two, fake Fendi wallet for 3 bucks, brand name shirts like Gap, Free People, Arden B, and a never been used Disney Scene it game for 4 bucks. Plus ugly sweaters galore for your xmas party. The clothes, shoes, toys, books and other random stuff are all separated by its respective categories. Some of the clothes are even arranged by color. Prices are listed on everything and reasonably appropriate. The place is pretty well ventilated and doesn't have that old smelly butt aroma like other goodwill/salvation army/ thrift stores I've been in. Sure, it still has the "surly" shoppers and awful parking other reviews have mentioned. But come on, I've seen surly shoppers at target and walmart too, it's not like they're going to harass you. I will give the store 2 stars because of the stuff you can find inside. However, the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Let me just say that I have never left a review but I'm still in shock with what happened yesterday. I drove from Downtown San Diego to Escondido (40 minutes) and called beforehand to ask how they accept payment. The lady on the phone advised me that it is cash only but that there was an ATM inside. Perfect I'll just take out cash inside, I thought. Once arriving to the store, I waited outside in line (because Co-vid). I spent about an hour and half in the store and had about 20 items in my cart. Once I pull up to the front, the ATM machine says out of service. I calmly asked the lady where the nearest ATM machine is and that I wish I would have known it was out of service when I called before coming. She pretty much ignored what I said but that I could go across the street and that they can hold my stuff for up until an hour. I walk outside and tell the employee who is directing the line that I'll be right back, that I just need to take cash out. She told me I would have to wait the line again. The line has about 40 people now. I explain that I already waited this line and that I'm only getting cash out because the ATM machine is not working. Again, she tells me I'll probably have to wait the line again but that she can double check with her manager. She comes back and says that the manager says I'll have to wait the line again. Now I'm just in shock and ask to speak to the manager (which I never do..) The manager came outside super rudely, didn't even let me talk saying that I need to follow the rules. After screaming repeatedly over me that I have to wait the line like everyone else, I was finally able to speak and explained to the manager that I called beforehand and was told there was an ATM machine. Had I known in my 40 min drive that there was not a working ATM inside, I would have taken out cash beforehand. But since the lady on the phone didn't bother to check if it's working or not, I have to go across the street to take out cash and come back and wait in a 30 minute line AGAIN just to pay for my items? The manager did not care at all what I was saying, she continued to tell me that I will still have to wait the line. I ended up leaving without buying anything. 20 items in my cart and was not able to take any of them home due to their employees. It's a shame because I've always talked this thrift store up to all my friends. But I will never come back and will make sure to let everyone know how poorly they treat their customers. read more

I always find gems when I come into this thrift store. I would say it's probably one of the top 3 thrift stores in all of San Diego! The only downside is how busy this place can get, lines can sometimes go to the back of the store but the cashiers are usually pretty fast. On weekends it is especially busy and it can be hard to maneuver through the isles and actually have some space to look through the racks. They have weekly deals that are pretty good, mostly everything is priced reasonably. I've found Nike, VS, north face, Lulu Lemon, Adidas, Old navy, etc. Definitely a must if you are an avid thrifter! read more

This place has certainly upgraded since AMVETS. Same workers. But, a lot neater. The deals are the same with color-coded price tags occasionally 50% to 75% off. Usually, those special colors are quite rare, but, even without the discounts the prices are reasonable. Found a pair of Merrill hiking boots that retail for over $150.00 (i checked the internet) and got it for $15.00!!! Over 90% below retail! Can't beat that! Parking can be thrifty, but, they do have the lot just East of the store. Thrift Store Tip: for woman, wear clothes that you can try stuff over. There are no dressing rooms, so, most resort to putting that cute dress or blouse over whatever you're wearing and judging from there. Yesterday was my first time coming to Valley Thrift after various recommendations! It's a huuuge thrift store! My only problem is the pricing, it's really inconsistent, like I'll find a shirt that is 1.99 and in the same section a similar shirt will be like 9.99! Some are even marked up to $20!!! So that was a little disappointing. It was also very crowded in there. I went on a Thursday and didn't have any bad experience but I hear on Wednesday's and Saturdays it's crazy because of the deals! So if you suffer from any type of anxiety around people, this may be a bit overwhelming for you. I recommend if you're going to be looking through racks and really being hands-on to wear gloves! That goes for any thrift store! I didn't and after leaving my hands felt really dusty and gross. Also if you are really prone to allergies you might want to wear a mask! A surprising amount of people do there! They don't take card! Cash only!!! They have an ATM there that charges you $2.50 to use. Also workers are bustling around like CRAZY so asking for help is a bit stressful lol. Other than that, it's one of the best thrift stores I've been to. Soooo many things.
