So, I hired them to do a "tune up" on my AC unit on 5/20/21. Long story short, my AC went out 6 weeks later. I called them to have them come back out and repair what needed to be repaired. It has been 2 1/2 weeks and zero return call. I ended up taking my business elsewhere. Please call people back, it doesn't have to be the same hour, but at least within 24-48 hrs. I am so glad I called KAPS! After a power outage my furnace wouldn't turn back on, even though I tried everything I could think of. So I started looking at companies on Yelp. Our original furnace (28 years) finally gave out thus the search for a high quality replacement. Since the AC was near as old, but still working, we decided to replace them both. We had four bids ranging from $13k to less than $7k-the lower bid was Kap's. So the price intrigued me, but didn't want to walk away with the "you get what you pay for" feeling. The research I did mostly said the equipment will all be good, but judge it on your installer. If the installation is poorly done, no system will work well. Working with Ken at Kap's was very good. He was very personable, and was committed to the integrity of the product he was installing and made sure it was done right. It took them one 12 hour day and another 8 hour day with 2 other guys to pull it off. They were easy to have at our home, and communicated fairly well with the process. We had one bad hiccup when they didn't come on the scheduled follow up date, since they were trying to squeeze the finish in between other jobs. They apologized and came back on a full they could commit to all being here to get the job done. After both work days they cleaned their work space well and left it like they found it. The furnace works great so far-will know more about the AC when it warms up. Overall, I would recommend Kap's highly for their integrity, friendliness, and mostly PRICE! read more

Imagine being 7 months pregnant and out of nowhere, the AC unit in your house just went out. Yeah, that happened - Right when we were experiencing temperature of over 100 degrees. My husband has attempted everything to get the AC going, but after a few hours of going without AC, we have accepted the fact that this was not something we could fix on our own. I reached out to all the vendors I could find at the moment (at 11 PM), most of them, unsurprisingly, did not have any availability for another few weeks. Of course. We booked a system cleaning for our air ducts and dryer vent a couple of weeks ago. No one showed up and when we tried to call, no one answered the phone! When we finally reached them, the lady told us she could not find our appointment and they just stopped doing duct cleaning due to equipment issues! I had a problem with my air conditioning that I called the installation company out to fix last year. The unit wasn't cooling my house properly, the technician then diagnosed it as low coolant, so he topped it off under warranty and called it a done deal. This year--same problem! I called Kap's, since my faith in the other company had been undermined by a recurring issue, and they also found my coolant to be low. Jon and Jerome took the time to be thorough with evaluating the system for leaks, replacing the valves that may have been causing issues, and re-charging the system with freon. So far, the system has held up under the hotter days, and if it still maintains its current level of coolant in a year, I'll be even more relieved I called Kap's. The only drawback was the cost--the service was more expensive than I was expecting, in part because my last repair was performed under warranty. I feel that the money was well-spent, however, because Jon and Jerome were thorough, communicative, and very clearly experts in their field. I would rather spend the money to do it right than have a cheaper repair leave me sweating through the summer. read more

My tenant's heat went out in December and KAPS was the only company in the Portland Metro Area that was able to come out the next day after I had called 18 HVAC companies. The name of the technician they sent was Jerome and on top of being extremely friendly, he showed me exactly what he was doing. He was very knowledgeable and he showed me each step he took to diagnose the problem. He always showed up on time and even with multiple parts wrong with our system, got it back up and running again. 10/10 would recommend KAPS Heating to anyone. After a heat wave hit us three weeks into owning our new home....and never having turned on the AC....we needed quick service. He was able to quickly diagnose the issue, was quite friendly, was very patient with our crazy dog, and even gave me a couple tips. A very good experience. The control board on our old Bryant furnace began failing to ignite the hot plate. KAP's HVAC responded near immediately and we were able to arrange a diagnostic the following day. Replacement board was $500ish and the troubleshooting another $130ish. I appreciated the engagement from the technician Jon, who explained what was happening and why to my complete satisfaction. We've been talking about getting one installed in the spring, so when we got our tax refund back, we started the process of getting this project done. I am so happy with the service we received from KAPS. Gary and Connor were great. A third person even showed up at the end to help finish up. They showed up when they said they would around 9 or so, which fell within the window they gave me. They were done by 3:30. I set up the equipment on my ecobee with a few button presses then set it to air. It kicked on and was pushing cool air into our home. I can't be completely sure it works until we can test it on a day when it's hotter outside than in, but I'm sure everything is good. Gary and Connor were friendly, curteuous, and professional. I've had these guys out twice now. The first time I was their last appt of the day on a Saturday. Due to traffic they arrived late but phoned ahead so I was well aware of their delay. They were scheduled to do a duct cleaning as well as my dryer vent and a general furnace service. They did a great job with the ducts and vent but ran out of time to do the furnace service without needing to rush thru it so they left and I rescheduled the service. The second time I believe I was the first appt on a Saturday (if memory serves). Again, they were running late due to traffic but phoned ahead so I wasn't overly annoyed. They were very thorough with their service and found a part that had failed. They were very competitively priced, professional, friendly and did a great job. I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

It's hard to imagine any sort of heat wave in the middle of a 6 month rain/snow/hail stretch in Portland ... BUT we finally decided to invest in AC for our home because those days will come. I've been experiencing environmentally induced symptoms due to air being pulled from in between the floors by my air handler. Finding the source is difficult and finding an HVAC company that will assist with the problem is almost impossible. No routine visitors complain of symptoms but my kitty has had chronic rhinitis for years, he has sneezed so much that the floors must be mopped 3-4 days a week. He develops infections and sometimes sneezes out blood. Once I figured that the cause was from the old return ductwork I found a temporary way to reroute the airflow and his allergic reaction disappeared overnight. My symptoms improved greatly. The trouble lies with the return air ductwork which would have to be reconfigured. By blocking individual return lines I was able to identify the troublesome return line and come up with a permanent solution. I knew the problem, came up with a solution, and only needed a couple of hours of work done. The response from the HVAC firms that say they offer this service was unbelievably poor. One firm set an appointment two weeks out and then preceded to send reminders up until the appointed time. Two hours after the appointment was set their office called informing me they no longer offer that service. To make it clear I received a text the day before, two hours before, and at the time of the appointment confirming the estimator's arrival. Then two hours after the expected arrival time received a call canceling the appointment. "We no longer offer that service." The manager made the decision that morning. I'm sick, my cat is sick, I know the solution but they could not be bothered with such a small job. Darren from Kaps HVAC agreed to come to take a look. He agrees that the most likely source is the return duct I identified. He also lets me know that its such a small job that most firms will pass on it. Despite that, he agrees to do the job. It's a little tricky so he offers to do it himself when he can squeeze me in. He showed up on time, made quick work of the job, and was overall terrific to do business with. That was two weeks ago. My kitty looks great. My health is better. It was a very small job. It took some competent thinking. It took someone who's only motivation wasn't revenue. We had a problem with our furnace and called Kaps. They were able to send someone out the next day which was great because some other places were booked out until January and we were cold. The furnace was turning on but blowing cold air and we could see that it wasn't the pilot light. They sent Jon and he was very thorough in trying to diagnose our problem and also very courteous and helpful with some other questions I had about our old registers. There wasn't an obvious problem but he did change some settings on the furnace and it's working so far so hopefully that fixed it!
