From start to finish, our experience with Salem Heating was absolutely fantastic. Scott, the estimator, was extremely helpful as we were choosing the equipment. We really appreciated his low key approach. He really heard us, rather than trying to sell us, and patiently answered all of our questions. Next came Ed, who prepared all of the calculations, list of supplies, etc. that would be needed by the installers to efficiently do their work with no snafus or need to leave for supplies. He also patiently answered all our questions. Based on Scott's recommendation, we decided to have our ducts cleaned prior to installation and he set up an appointment with Oregon Duct Cleaning to do so. ODC was a great recommendation and we're very happy with the job they did. They too, patiently answered all our questions. Finally, Mike and Mitch did the installation. We hit the jackpot with those two. What a GREAT team! They were professional, tidy, patiently answered all our questions, and obviously took pride in the quality of their work and the quality of the Lennox products they installed. Mike went a step further and went into a VERY tight portion of the crawl space (he literally had to shimmy in and out) where he discovered a major section of the ductwork had not been properly installed. He fixed that and thoroughly sealed the ducts to the vents. We are so grateful to him for going that extra mile as the problem wasn't visible until he got inside the area. No wonder that part of the house was, depending on the season, either hotter or cooler than the rest of the house. He deserves a bonus for his effort. read more

My go-to HVAC firm for 23 years. First, I had them remove an electric furnace and install an efficient gas furnace. The original ductwork impeded access through the scuttle into the crawl space, so later I had them return and redesign the ductwork with modern flexduct. They even installed baffles so the air movement could be varied between summer and winter. And of course in 23 years the furnace had to have two motors replaced. Probably never your low bidder, but you get courteous service and competent techs, and usually pretty quickly too. read more

We received quite a few bids to replace our aging HVAC unit and these folks were by far the easiest to work with. They weren't the lowest bidder or the highest but I feel we got the best bang for our dollars and believe me it wasn't cheap. They also had a $250 deduction for being a veteran. Nothing was wrong with it however I knew it was a good idea to have it looked over before firing it up for winter. I needed to have the old furnace in my basement replaced, I needed AC added, and I also wanted more heating vents in my basement.  My gas company is NW Natural.  They had eight approved vendors on its web site.  Of the eight, only two had good reviews on Yelp and other places.  I contacted the two that had the best reviews and one of the companies that had bad reviews.  My dad had always told me to get three bids if I was ever getting work done on my house. Three sales people came to my house and after a bit, gave me bids for the job.  I was not necessarily looking for the least expensive bid, but I wanted a company that I thought I could talk to.  Only one companies, Salem Heating and Sheet Metal, told me about a $1,000.00 rebate from Energy Trust of Oregon.  The sales person from SHSM (Scott) was easy to talk to and I felt that he was flexible and listened to me when I talked to him about my concerns.  Once I decided to have them do the job I was very happy I did.  The two people who were at my home for all five days to do the work were Randy & Rick.  They cleaned up after themselves every day.  The work they did was neat and tidy.  If I had concerns, they listened to me and gave me good options.  When I had questions about how something worked, they stopped and took the time to explain things to me.  You could not ask for more pleasant, highly skilled people to do this kind of work.  I could not be any more pleased. I give this company an A+.  Nice folks, the price was just fine, skilled craftsmen, and they left my home cleaner then it was when they arrived. What more could anyone ask for?  If you are looking for people to install or replace a furnace or AC, or need repair work, I think this is one of the best, if not the best company that will do this type of work in Salem. read more

We have a 62-year-old house. A year after we moved in, we had the oil-burning furnace replaced with a combo natural gas high-efficiency furnace and air conditioner. About 5 years after it was installed, we decided to have the hard-to-reach air filter changed to a more convenient location. The company that we bought the unit from quoted a figure in the thousands for the change. Fortunately, a friend recommended Salem Heating and Sheet Metal. They changed the ducting for under $500. We have used them for annual and emergency maintenance since. Ten years or so down the pike, we woke up this morning and the house was cold. I called them, and their technician, Mark Sanders, showed up about 4 hours after we called, which was surprising, because this was one of the coldest nights this winter, after a warm and dry fall. I was sure they were swamped with calls. Mark quickly and efficiently diagnosed the problem, got the part from his truck, and got the furnace running again. He was cheerful, helpful, knew his job inside and out. His cellphone was ringing steadily until he muted it. The house is warm again and I have a warm spot in my heart for Mark and Salem Heating and Sheet Metal. read more

Guy came out and poked around for 20 minutes and gave us a clean bill of health after inspecting the work they did in December. The solicited service was called the "yearly inspection " -- I fell for the ruse and paid the $92 bill. We did call them looking for the "replaced air filter" as listed on the receipt which was never replaced nor left behind. We were told that would be a separate service. I did call back after hours as I just got home and inquired about the air filter. Never got a return call so this outfit will not be coming back. Lousy service and just looking for a quick buck. #sad read more

I had a Lennox system installed in 1 1/2 days. Randy and Kurtis from Salem Heat were the best at making it happen. They had to create a special filter box for my system because the previous one had no filter at all. That's where the "Sheet Metal" part of their business came into play. On top of that, there was very limited space to work in and install the unit. After running a duct up to a room without one, Randy explaining the thermostat to me, and helping me with my fireplace, I was impressed. Great job. read more

Service tech was not confident at all at one point he thought he had the compressor unplugged and it kicked on and surprised him... he didn't realize it had 2 plugs and he had unplugged the wrong one. This was after insisting it needed to be replaced. He also kept referring to it as a new system and that's why he wasn't sure but it's a 10 year old plus system installed by the same company. He was at my home less than 15 minutes and didn't even test the system before he left. I have had to call another company to come out to fix it. The competitor hooked up the right tools and diagnosed the problem correctly and I will be paying them over $1k to fix it. Don't waste your time here get someone else to do it right the first time... they are gonna charge you just to look at it and you will have to call someone else to actually diagnose and fix it anyway. read more

After our oil furnace stopped working, we made the decision to convert to natural gas. Like most people, we obtained three quotes from local HVAC companies. We were most impressed with the representation from Salem Heating and scheduled with them. After scheduling, a representative came by to obtain measurements for our conversion. Upon hearing we were without heat, he made a few phone calls and had a crew out that afternoon to complete the removal of the old furnace. The next day, they returned and completed the install. The technicians were all very friendly, professional and even helped lift a chest out of our basement that we had been struggling to remove because of it's weight. They were here while the gas company was installing our gas line and did not complain once about having to work around them or delays when the gas company blocked our driveway causing them to walk 200 feet (one way) to bring tools, supplies, etc. Once the meter was installed by the gas company, Salem Heating immediately came out to fire up our furnace. On the initial start, our old duct work made a bit of noise and the representative located where the problems were occurring and happily installed some straps to eliminate the noise free of charge (service to the existing ductwork was not included in the quote). We appreciate this company tremendously. read more

Do not under any circumstances let them in your home. After installing a central ac we began smelling electrical wires burning. We found the smoking wires in the ac unit they had installed. Thank God we found it before it sparked a potentially deadly fire. They came back the next day. After more than an hour of panicked running up and down the stairs the repairman called for help. Two hours later the lying started. You see there was this really old wire from the heating part and it had been bent for about 50 years and it's just a coincidence that it started smoking the night they put the ac in. We asked for the wire. Oh no, I'll throw it away in your trash. Bolts out the door sweating bullets. No wire in trash. Asked our contractor to get the wire. Hmmm...it was a new wire. They are liars. Extortionists and idiots. An electrical fire could have killed my grandsons. Stay clear. read more

Our heat pump unit died after being taken over by chipmunks so I had a couple bids and went with Salem Heating. They were in line with the other bids and I wanted to get the Costco rebate. They arrived on the target date and completed the work in a single day (heat pump and air exchanger). Mike and Mathew were efficient, clean and personable. They answered all questioned and did a good job explaining the system and new thermostat. I will continue to use Salem Heating for any additional work. read more

We had an emergency with our furnace filling our garage with smoke! They were over within the hour had it fixed. They were very good at explaining everything they did and even updated some other aspects of the furnace. The rate was very reasonable too. read more

I called them on a cold, snowy day after noticing my heat in my house wouldn't go above 68 for 3 days. At first, I was thinking my sons were messing with heat. They had a next day available, but I work 12 hours shifts. I gave them my next available day off, they said they'd be there from 0800-1200. That morning at 0815, I missed a "SPAM" call. Thinking it might've been them I called and they immediately transferred me to Bob in service. Bob was so nice! (I felt silly calling them just 15 mins after the repair window was open) He confirmed it was not them, but I was next on their list and their technician was just about to call me. He was so helpful! It was nice he knew what was going on and The technician, (#744 I forgot his name) was SO nice, informative and very respectful. He showed me what he was doing, why, and was very transparent. He did the least expensive quick fixes first, which I greatly appreciated. When he got to the 3rd possible issue, he noticed a clog in the air tube and showed me how clogged it was and how he was going to fix it. He was wearing a mask the entire time. I asked him to look at my gas fireplace as well (we were at 40 mins maybe) and he said sure. He came into the house, said hi to my dogs (bonus points!) and went to work. The switch wasn't turning on the fireplace and he repaired that in about 30 seconds. I also noticed we didn't have a fan to push heat out and he said I could order that and they could install it, or they could order and install it. He was there about 46 min. He made sure my heat was on and steady. He also made sure gas fireplaced switched on and off. I HIGHLY recommend them! I will be calling them again should the need arise! Thank you guys! read more

For years, every time I exited the Salem Costco, I glanced at the HVAC kiosk for current cash back offers. When it was time to replace our 20 year-old HVAC system, I picked up the Costco brochure, advertising 15% cash back, and called the number. Not long after, a rep from Salem Heating (Costco's exclusive dealer), dropped by and gave me a bid for a high efficiency furnace and AC. The bid seemed high, so I got a second bid from another company. Unbelievably, the second bid (for the same set-up) was 18% less than the Salem Heating bid. Thinking the second bid may have been a lowball, I got a bid from a third company. It was 15% lower than Salem Heating. Salem Heating's elevated bid effectively wiped out any Costco cash back advantage. I brought this up with with the Salem Heating bidder wondering if they charged a higher price to Costco customers to compensate for the cash back bonus. He said they charge everyone the same and took offense to my insinuation that they may charge elevated prices to make up for the steep Costco discount. He then took to disparaging the longtime local companies who had given me "lowball" offers. Needless to say, I went with the second bid and couldn't be happier with the price and equipment. It's been working perfectly for two years. Other than the thin-skinned bidder who took offense to my insinuation, I have no opinion of Salem Heating as to their reliability or installation habits, but I do have something to say about their pricing. Do not assume that Salem Heating is giving you a good deal just because they are associated with Costco and cash back offers. MAKE SURE YOU GET A SECOND OR THIRD BID! read more

Pat came out to look at the furnace and was able to solve the problem. We called for service of our fireplace to replace a gas valve and wall switch. It was obvious that the valve/switch needed replacement, it was known from the get go when we called to report the issue and make the appointment. When the technician arrived, he spent more than half an hour just looking at the valve and didn't start work until we began to question what was taking him so long. Being charged by the hour, it was obvious he was just killing time. After 2 1/2 hrs, he was finally finished, however we didn't realize until he left that the new wall switch he installed was now white, which stands out like a sore thumb in the ivory colored double wall plate and double switch. It looks like a Mickey Mouse repair, an ivory colored wall plate with one ivory switch and one white switch. We called customer service to inquire getting the switch changed to the right color, we were told this company doesn't do this as they only have the color white on hand! Really? In this day and age where many colors of wall switches are available by web order! The person was not only unfriendly but quite rude, when my husband said we called his company thinking we'd get good service but will now look to other companies for future service, he said fine go ahead. Obviously this company doesn't care about their customers, need business or provide adequate customer service. If you have a high end home and want your wall switches to be matched don't call on Salem Heating & Sheet Metal, they only carry one color and don't care about customer service. FIRED!!! This company left my 91 year old mother, my wife and I who are both well over retirement age, without heat or any other communication for over 10 days (October 11th-20th). We originally called because our furnace fan had stopped working correctly. When the repair person quoted the amount to replace the fan, we were told what a replacement furnace would cost as ours was old and inefficient. We agreed to replace the furnace. The next day a Craig Briggs, a "project manager," came out to collect information for an accurate quote. I received the quote that evening. I agreed to purchase the quoted furnace by e-mail the next morning and was told by Craig by e-mail that Ed Morris would contact us to come do measurements, take pictures, and get the layout of our furnace space. Also, Scott Lineberger would contact us for financial information. Ten days later, I have never heard from Ed Morris, or Scott Lineberger, nor from Craig Brigss since October 12th (it's the 20th today). When I called to cancel the order the receptionist interrupted me and asked, in what seemed a surly tone, whether I wanted to talk to someone or just cancel the order. Pardon, me, but I thought I was talking with someone - needless to say they were FIRED! read more

this was for a quote going thru Costco. 1. It took over a week before I got a call back for an appointment concerning a quote for a heat pump from Salem Heating. 2. The appointment times are scheduled out a ways - as there seems to only be one person that does the bids/quotes. 3. The business does not call the day before or send a reminder text they just show up. 4. On the first apt I waited and waited. I looked out my window at 10 after the appt time and noticed a car sitting in the road, it then took off and parked down the road a ways. I went out but they did not return. I went back inside and 20 minutes later noticed a voicemail. I immediately called him back and left a msg and waited. ....I never received a call back. I ended up calling Salem Heating the next morning. 5. Again I had to schedule way out for another appt time. 6. The next scheduled day I missed (my fault) as I was thinking it was the following day. I did not get a call from the gentleman about the appt. I called Salem Heating a hour after my missed appt and let them know. They called later in the day and the lady said the gentlemen was declining to schedule any further appts with us. read more
