When a good man is found, it's like finding gold. My aging friend in the Arcata area needed heavy furniture & mattresses to be moved around, a faucet repair and a split jammed drawer to be fixed. Those needs were only the tip of the iceberg of her repair needs. She was feeling frustrated and depressed because she had nobody to help her. She'd emailed me to complain about her joint pains and frustrations about not being able to do all the repairs. There were no handymen or neighbors to help. So I went to Yelp and, fortunately, found Mark Anthony - the only handyman listed in Eureka area! After giving him a call to see if he really existed & still in business, I told him I'd give my friend his number. She called him immediately. Mark fixed everything needed in a short amount of time & had the furniture back in place. My friend was absolutely thrilled with his professionalism and skills. He'd even fixed the broken split drawer! That had been in early December. Now my friend hires Mark to do everything that's impossible for her to do herself. She's absolutely thrilled with Mark as a person and as a very skilled handyman. She raves about Mark in her emails. And not only that, but when I reviewed everything later, it was bullseye-accurate. I wish I could leave a different review, things started out great but the end result was my…read morenightmare. This is so disappointing and not the first experience I was hoping for as a new home owner. My partner and I just bought a home at the end of September. We hired Joe based on previous recommendations. We had him in to do the floors before anything was moved in to make it easy. I helped with the previous floor removal as we were on a time crunch and he was squeezing me in between other jobs (should've known). When he came in after the original floor removal, he did an assessment of the sub-flooring and said everything was fine. I told him I wanted brand new floors that turned this old house into the gem it was meant to be. I wanted something to last 30+ years. This wasn't a cheap install either. Fast forward to the last day when he was "finished". I took a look around our brand new home only to notice the fine details not being met and my floors creaking and moving as we walk on them. When I asked about the movement he told me that we didn't have flat sub flooring so it was the houses fault. Not once did he mention this would be a thing during the week he took to install, so you can imagine my surprise when he said it was finished! Then I took a look around to notice all of my brand new baseboards floating off the wall as well as pieces not cut to the right size, so he "made do" with what he had. I asked him about the baseboards and why they look like that for him to reply that my walls are the problem. He also told me once I put furniture in the house, I wouldn't even notice it. I have tried to get ahold of him for months now as he didn't finish the flooring under the water heater and said he would come back to finish that when it was replaced (it was replaced in February and I haven't heard from him since). I also have a hole in the floor for a vent cover that he didn't cut to a standard size so I can't find a vent cover for the hole in the ground. To say this experience was a nightmare is an understatement. And the worst part is, he won't return my calls or admit to any of the mess ups he has done so I am left with no choice but to post this post for everyone else to be warned. Sad thing is I see many good reviews, which makes me wonder that because I am young and a female, if he took advantage of me and what we had going on at the time. Overall if he couldn't get the job down in the time he said, he should've communicate. If my subfloors were bumpy and going to cause the floating and movement, I would've wanted to fixed and that should've been communicated. And if the walls are wavy and the baseboard didn't sit flush, I would've expected caulk and more nails! Overall I would give him a 0 star review...do not recommend.
