I worked with Valley West Mortgage on my home purchase last September. I found them after comparing rates with a couple other lenders, and Kevin with Valley West agreed to match the best rate with an additional lender credit that ultimately made their offer the best one. Initially, everything in the process went fairly smoothly. However, that all changed about 1 week before closing. First, that lender credit that was agreed upon? That was mysteriously gone from the final closing disclosures. After confronting Kevin about it, he said I lied about the offers I had compared (which makes no sense as I directly showed him the actual loan disclosure documents from the other mortgage lenders) and refused to honor the previously agreed upon lender credit despite the obvious evidence I had in writing. When I asked him if he was willing to blow up the deal over this, he simply replied "yup." After contacting other lenders to try to get away from supporting Valley West after this poor business practice, I realized I would be stuck continuing with Valley West if I wanted to close on my house anywhere near the initially discussed closing date. That leads me to the next issue: the closing date. 3 days before closing, I received some communication from Valley West that led me to believe there were some documents being processed that would take until the following week to be finished, which hold up the closing. Based on this, I contacted Celeste (who was working with me on procuring said documents) and found out that they somehow had my closing date in their system as 8 DAYS LATER than the actual closing date. They never asked or communicated this date to me at any point before. To this day, I have no idea how they arrived at that date, as my closing date had already been set well before I had initially contacted their office. Regardless, this flub resulted in me having to contact my home insurance to change the move-in date to the correct one (which Valley West had changed with them without my knowledge or consent), and to contact the title company who informed me they were working closely on getting Valley West to clean up a number of errors in the documents including having entirely too much property tax taken out. All of this sounds like a 1-star review, right? Well ultimately, Valley West was able to crank it out and meet the original closing date successfully so I felt 2-stars was appropriate based on that. But would I ever recommend using them to anyone else as a mortgage lender? Not in a million years. read more

We were in the market for a home loan refinance and went to Bankrate.com and found an excellent rate from Valley West Mortgage. Its reviews were satisfactory enough for us to call them. We got Barbara Gail Green and she informed me they can close the loan within 2.5 weeks. The Bank of America told me it would take them 2 months to close the loan if all went well. This information made our decision easy. Our experience with Barbara was excellent. She called us often to give us updates and instructions how to send in the necessary information for the loan package. It was also nice that I got her on the phone in person 80% of the time instead of her voice mail. She also invited us to call her ANYTIME we needed help. Her patience on the phone with us was always appreciated. Best of all, we closed the loan within 2.5 weeks as promised, with no hitches, no delays, and no hassles. Had a very nightmarish experience with Barbara Green. Initially she was okay to deal with but as time progressed I found out her lack of responsiveness. Calls and texts to her would go unanswered as usual for days on end but as soon as she needs something from you she will call and text you 10 times. I literally had anxiety's dealing with her . Oh on that note, half the reviews which are on about her seem fake to hide her incompetence. Yes her and her team's incompetence , they scheduled my appraisal so late I was already having a feeling my closing time would be impacted. They could have atleast prepped up the documentation before appraisal but no. Please please save your money and mental health by not choosing valley west mortgage or atleast Barbara Green. My fiancé just had anxiety listening to my conversation with her. Seems like she got a power trip being a loan officer with how she talked to me. She literally didn't take time even in her emails and always spelt my first and last name wrong. The most weird part , and you can call them ask , Knoxville title agency , Chase Reno my title officer told me that this has been the rudest and worst experience of his career dealing with Barbara Green. There was so much miscommunication my realtor, my title company had no idea what was going on. When I called to check status she would rudely say that I'm not supposed to be involved in all this. In the end my home did close after extending the closing time . We even tried to talk to Barbara's supervisor but no one in the valley west company bothered about our feedback. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE STRESSED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE CLOSING PROCESS. Buying a house is always a roller coaster ride, especially when you are on a budget. My family of six decided to buy at a house when the market was kind of crazy (i.e. "seller's market"), but everyone at Valley West ensured my experience was as positive as possible. My loan officer was Jeff Gonzalez. He was very prompt in responding to any of my concerns. Interest rates were fluctuating while I was putting in offers for homes and Jeff was very realistic in the amount that I would be looking at from the beginning and assured my wife and I that he would try to get us the lowest rate possible. He even gave us his own suggestions in the types of homes to look for and the areas that typically hold value better in the market. I really appreciated this because he was very knowledgeable in the data that he comes across through his experience in this field. My realtor and us decided to put in an offer over the asking amount and agreed to pay that amount (even if the appraisal came back lower than that, which we expected it would). The appraisal then came back a lot lower than what we anticipated (because of a cash buyer) and we were at a loss of how to come up with a larger down payment. It was at this proposition that Jeff really came through for us. He went through every possible single payment option with my wife and I. He even took the time to talk us through our concerns while he was ill. Every time we came to the office, I genuinely felt like he shared my concerns and that I was a valued client. For example, when I was upset over the down payment, he looked into special programs that were being offered at the time to teachers and some other options that he was aware of to try to get my down payment to be affordable for my family. I could not be more satisfied with my experience with Valley West and Jeff Gonzalez. This was better than any mortgage company I've ever dealt with in the past and they will truly show care and compassion during your home buying experience. Very bad experience. Found them on bankrate for a condotel finance. Spoke to Barbara who said they had done those before (even in the propery I was buying in) and it was no problem. Sent her all the requested info and then she ghosted me for days. I emailed to follow up then called. At that time she said she was "checking with an underwriter today" to see if it was possible. No follow up. Another week went by with no reply so I emailed to check the status. No response for days. Emailed again. No response. Called one last time and Barbara gave me the same answer. "Need to check with someone today" Clearly they don't care about new business. Told them no thanks and moved on. Bankrate should hold them accountable for advertising products they don't actually offer. Very rude. read more

Michael Nelson is an awesome Mortgage Loan Officer. He saved me hundreds each month by helping me refinance my mortgage loan to a lower interest rate. He was friendly, helpful, and professional. He was very responsive and communicated efficiently. He even substantially beat the rate that J.P Morgan Chase was offering me at the time. I was a bit stressed out before refinancing because I needed to upgrade my AC unit, as well as work on some other major projects on my home. My mortgage payment was affordable, but not as affordable as I would have liked it, until I refinanced. This made working on these projects a lot more attainable.
