Valor Training Center - Cardio Bag Rush (CBR) is a great class and a first-rate workout. Bob gave excellent instructions and made nice transition to the various movements. The hour goes by fast and you will be sore the next day! The instructors are great motivators, energetic, incredibly knowledgeable and upbeat. They take the time to show new students how to execute properly. You don't see that type of support and care at most places. When I was about 8/9 years old, my parents enrolled me in Martial Arts here in Stockton. Being 23 years old now, I wished Valor Training Center was around when I was younger. But needless to say, I have fallen in love with the sport of Muay Thai (known as the Art of 8 Limbs.) If it weren't for the owner Kru Patrick Rivera & the head Coach Tony Dominguez I wouldn't have been able to grow as a martial artist & had built up the courage to step into the ring. I have been training at Valor Training Center since March of 2013 & I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The atmosphere is wonderful! I honestly can't say anything but positive things about this place. From the other members here, to the staff, everyone is so welcoming from the moment you step in the door. Most gyms stink of sweat & nasty things, but this place is always clean & does not have the sweaty, nasty smell. Alright so before you scroll past this review just know that I am putting this entire review into sections of each classes I've taken. No order in particular but I will say that I will be starting with the Fight Camp Fitness just because I see it isn't being utilized enough and I am totally reaping all of the benefits from this class almost alone sometimes. Don't get me wrong though, every class I have taken so far is definitely 5 star, but I love this place so much that I feel it's only right to break it down and review all of the lovely aspects of this jewel. Fight Camp Fitness: I typically go in the mornings for this class, but there are other times available. Coach Cecil has been the one training me and others in this class. It's hard work for sure. If you come, don't be discouraged the first time around. I have had to take breaks for my asthma, breaks for my cramps, etc. All I can advise you is to not give up on this class. Coach Cecil cares so much about his work and if you challenge yourself you will see results. He will be your cheerleader though the entire workout and beyond. Before starting this class 2 1/2 months ago I was at my heaviest 225 lbs, and now I am down to 210 lbs and still losing. If your seeing this review now, whether you already workout at Valor or not give this class a chance for at least 2 weeks and you will already feel the difference. Such an important class for building not only strength, flexibility, core, but also confidence and that's what's so beautiful about it. Muay Thai Foundations (Teens/Adults) : Such a friendly class. I'm speaking for both morning classes and evening classes since I try my best to train in both. Don't feel you have to do that to yourself just because I'm crazy though and am crazy about getting the techniques right(I'm a really really slow learner), but every coach who works in Foundations is extremely patient and they have the tools and knowledge to help you get to where you need to be. Every class always has such a great atmosphere. In the mornings the classes are usually small, and currently mostly lead by Coach Jamie. He may seem intimidating at time, but he throws some pretty great jokes. So don't be scared, especially if you happen to be the only one in the class for a bit. In the evenings, Coach Jesse usually teaches(but sometimes it'll be Jamie, everyone switches around from time to time it). He is a hoot. If your worried about being a wallflower, don't worry you will probably be hit by a pool noodle by him sometime to remind you to keep your hands up. You will feel award at first, but you will be grateful in the long run if you stick to it. Great times! Muay Thai Level 2: It gets a little harder here. I believe you can join this class after training for about 3 months. A lot of coaches switch around in this class, but if your doing mornings expect Coach Jamie again. In the evenings though Kru Rick will probably be teaching the class. So far it's been him teaching every time I have been in the class. It's a great experience working with him and the other fight team members when they join the class. You'll notice with his teaching style, he really emphasizes the importance of every lesson. He will emphasize with strong language, but know language is used not as decorative language per say, but as a way of making sure that we as students are paying attention and absorbing all of the information, to be aware of all hazards etc. If you're of the faint of heart for colorful language, I advise that you look past it and see and listen to the passion behind the words and lessons spoken. Advance Muay Thai: I will say, I'm not an Advance student yet, but I've had the privilege of working out in this class. I'm not sure the exact requirement(I'll update this review time and again) but you certainly will need a bit of time to workout here if your just starting unless you're invited over to try out the class like I've been. If you're ever invited do try it! It's really fun working with all the other students who've been working incredibly hard in this class. Kru Rick won't eat you alive if you're new and trying it out. He is always welcoming. There will be moves that will be totally foreign to you, that's what's so cool about trying it out! Sparring: Safety first! In any class really...before you come out know that you will need your gear-men that means cups. Mouth guards too everybody. Everyone at Valor cares about safety so you will be turned away if you don't have the proper gear on. This isn't just safety for your partner, but you as well. Other than that this is a great class, and a must if you plan to stick with Muay Thai for a long time. I'm still trying to brave into this class more often myself, but rest assured the coaches of Valor will be sticking close to make sure nothing terrible happens. Truly my family's 2nd home. Our 3 children ranging from ages 8, 13 and 18 are currently enrolled for muay thai 2 months after the facility opened in Jan 2012. This place must have started about 20 people and to this date, it must have quadrupled in half a year that they had to move to its current bigger location (and still growing). Going on our 2nd year this spring, we've seen this place grow and have seen the transformation to a lot of the students especially the fight team. A lot of the students have lost tremendous weight, built confidence and has found friendship in the process. I know this because I see the camaraderie amongst the group, you walk in and someone always welcomes you with "Sawadee Khup" and the coaches always calls you by your name. Oftentimes, you'll see parents with their children in the same classes together. I seldom go to the CBR or cardio bag rush or in another term, is the conditioning class. This is a separate class from muay thai and this is especially pushed in order for the muay thai fighters build the stamina for the fights. This class is being taught Tuesday & Thursday evenings and on Saturday mornings at 8:30. This is one class I enjoy going to & sweat really good while at the same time, I feel like I get to release my stress by punching and kicking the bags under the watchful eye of the coaches. This is by far the best place in Stockton for this specialized area in martial arts, very family oriented, only HUMBLE people you'll encounter here, no wonder it got nominated in the San Joaquin's Best magazine just after a year in business....check it out!!! read more

Valor is hands down the best training center/gym ever!! I was nervous to try out cardio kickboxing, I have never done any classes , I had no experience. I spoke with Daymalie and she told me when to come in, she was the sweetest and made me feel at ease from the very beginning. I was introduced to Coach Cecil and I had no idea what to expect, but he has literally changed my life and feelings about going to a gym. He is motivating, kind, professional, fun and he makes sure YOU are exactly where you should be. It's a class, but it is tailored to fit everyone's individual needs and skills. The group of people is amazing too, especially the other women who welcome and support you. Patrick, the owner, I don't think you could meet a kinder person and he knew my name from day one and always welcomes me and says goodbye. He is that way with everyone, you can see how much he loves what he is doing. If you are having any reservations, stop!! Just go and try it for yourself!! Coach Cecil is absolutely amazing and I feel stronger and happier every day I go! I can't say thank you enough to the wonderful staff and people at Valor. My only problem is I want more! Many of my friends have asked me what Valor Training Center is and as most would expect I give a brief description of it being a training center for Muay Thai Kickboxing, which offers classes for all ages . But for those that have experienced it know that I become very animated and passionate about what VTC really is... A little over a year ago I stepped foot into the facility being greeted by Kru Patrick and the coaches "Swadee Mindie" lol makes me smile even writing this. welcoming my son and I into this super positive and incredibly encouraging family. It is so much more than just a gym. Throughout my time here I have found how important taking time for myself really is. Coming into class some days a ball of emotion, leaving feeling like I just kicked ass and lifted all the stress off of my shoulders. I can't even put words to the amazing way it makes me feel. Cardio kick boxing has helped me maintain long lean muscle tone but even more important was helped me gain focus, confidence and mental strength to face life with my head up high (Knowing that my left kick could do some major damage to whatever steps in my way)! i like to think myself as a martial artist. my personal definition of martial artist goes beyond the learning of techniques and rank, but an appreciation of the beauty of the techniques, a cultivation of qualities like honor, maturity, loyalty and dedication. my parents putting me in martial arts as a youth instilled in me all those qualities and more and made me the man i am today. training in martial artists gave me confidence as well as humility. Confidence gave me a good self-esteem, and that self-esteem bled into other parts of my life--my grades were great and, i'd like to think, made me a better person. I had gained a lot of weight as an adult. and, as many adults would know, losing weight can often times be a great pain. i trudged through the muck of weight lifting and running on my own and lost 70lbs. but it was difficult and boring. training muay thai here has focused my efforts in weight loss. it has given me a greater drive that goes beyond weight loss, new goals and such. often times at the end of a class, i will be soaked in sweat but it didn't feel like a workout. my mind focused on technique and absorbing all that i can, i didn't feel the effort i usually do in a work out. i've been training at valor for 3 months now and it has renewed my love of martial arts. i didn't realize that this was what i was missing in my adult life. it's the best decision i've made as an adult. This is a great training center. i feel like i'm part of a family here, a fraternity of sorts. my fear before joining a training center is that it would be full of macho meatheads. thankfully i did not find that here. the instructors are great, good people. after my first training session, i knew that this was the place for me. i don't have children, yet. but i come early before the adult class starts and the kids session is going on. I see that they are great with kids. teaching technique, and instilling confidence, all the while making it fun for them. but they go beyond teaching good technique, but also teach them about respect for others, and themselves, and their parents. give them discipline, and equip them for life as a teenager/adult in todays world. after each week, you can tell in the faces of these kid that their confidence is growing and how much fun they have. it's also a great way to keep your kids active in the age of an obesity epidemic, asthma and breathing treatments, and involved in an exciting sport/martial art. training here is very affordable. it is a better value than getting a trainer at a gym. come here, try the free sessions, you will not regret it!! read more

Wonderful place to take your children for martial arts. Tony, Cliff, Lauren and all the others are very patient yet assertive and fun but strict. My son has many deficiencies due to sensory processing issues and is very inattentive yet he likes it here. All the coaches take their time to tell him every step because he gets lost easy. I love how all the children are tought to be respectful and orderly. Since my son is homeschooled and has delays, I wanted a place where he interacted with other children in a safe environment while learning valuable lessons. read more
