Val's has been a long time and regular establishment when visting the Lake of the Ozarks. They are known for their breakfast and it has a very homie vibe to the place. Love this breakfast/lunch place. The service is always friendly and they make a mean breakfast. Be aware that you may have a short wait. They have a lot of seating, but during busy weekends, someone let the secret slip out about how yummy the cinnamon cakes are. The menu has a great selection, but it is not overwhelming. Breakfast is all day and there is a lunch menu as well. Classic breakfast food that will leave you full and satisfied; ready to take on a full day of the lake. Enjoy your meal in the back of the restaurant looking out into the beautiful woods and take a gander at the lake memorabilia on the walls. I absolutely loved this place! It's a small joint, but filled with locals and tourists alike. Absolutely packed inside, but if you can stand the noise it's well worth it. The food was amazing, with large portions and plenty of coffee refills. You should definately try the waffles. The prices were really resonable as well. We were sitting at a table with a sign over it saying the waitresses were sassy. I commented to ours that I was disappointed that I didn't get any sass with my meal so she brought an extra side of it with the check. You just gotta love a sassy waitress, and finding them is always difficult unless you're sitting in a Waffle House. The only downside was the dirty restroom. read more

Went in to eat for the first time and it was definitely the last time! As I'm sitting there and in view of the kitchen a cook set a tray of raw meat on to off the filled dirty trash can. Customer service could be better off you aren't a regular they forget you are there with no drink no refill once you get a drink no checking back. I feel like if it's not a regular it may be a potential one if treated the way you treat your regulars. read more

Visiting friends at Lake of the Ozark's, we got a late morning start and were divided on whether to do breakfast or lunch. Problem solved at Val's. We did both. Val's is basically what many would call a greasy spoon diner but it is much, much better. From really good service to excellent food, we enjoyed our breakfast/lunch. My wife had biscuits and gravy with eggs. She loved the flavor of the gravy and said the biscuits were perfect. I opted for the tenderloin sandwich. This piece of meat was almost as big as my plate and was flavorful and tender. (Our friends ordered the same as us with similar comments). Despite being quite busy, service was excellent. Our drinks were never empty either. I likely would have driven past Val's. I'm glad I wasn't driving! read more

Val's is a local gem, and I appreciate them being here serving great food at a great price!!! I don't know how they do it so good at such a great price! I came in today craving their Pork Tenderloin sandwich which is so large and delicious, but then I see on the Specials Board "All you can eat Fried Catfish with a side for $9.99"!!! Are kidding me! Who can serve an All you can eat Catfish dinner for $9.99? It was large boneless sides and not the smaller fillet pieces which I generally prefer, but not too bad. However, I've probably been here a dozen times and always get great food. My favorites to recommend is the Pork Tenderloin sandwich, and the Ham Steak for breakfast. I'm surprised to see a few critical reviews and ratings saying they come here a lot, and usually love the food, but have one poor experience and leave a low rating? Where's the 5-star ratings for all of your previous visits that were so good. One bad day or shift cook being off happens everywhere. Don't leave a bad review for one off day, and then not give positive review for the previous 9 great visits. We have enough high priced lakefront places, franchises, and high end restaurants at the lake. And we do enjoy those occasionally, but there's not enough local places like Val's serving great food at a great price, and charming quaint atmosphere. Service is always great! read more

I add this only hoping this place mot sliding and management takes it to heart because I used to give it five stars and rave about it. but today I was served cold and unbuttered toast why I have no idea. my eggs were grossly undercooked to the point that I thought they might be dangerous and the corned beef hash was god awful and tasted like someone to put sugar on it. the coffee was not very hot and was not very good again I say this and only and hope that the management takes note and this was just a bad day with a bad cook because I've been a fan of this place for years. today was just way off. Please take note. 3 stars today was just because not to hurt your rating too much and I know you can do much better. But you really need to change the formula on your corned beef hash. The perfect little small town breakfast stop. Everyone was so welcoming and you could tell that the staff really do enjoy working there. The meal is a tradition breakfast offerings but it did not disappoint. Everything was delicious and came quickly despite the constant stream of people in and out. They are a well oiled machine. It's a homey style restaurant with a great portion of food and reasonable price. I went there with a group of four around 9am and there was already a short waiting list. But the wait was not that bad, the service was fast as well. I got the Denver omelette and the food was so fresh and it was not overly seasoned. My friends were all so satisfied with their food to start the trip at the lake of the Ozarks. Definitely recommend to stop by this place to kick off the day for the trip. read more

I ordered the standard 2 eggs over easy, with country ham snd grits. What I received was the best order of country ham I've eating since Uncle Jess died and had to give it up. Seriously, we were 6 delighted 70 year old men as we wobbled out to our day on the Lake. My advice. Leave your politics at home. Savor the food. The people are genuinely good people, although one of the tables was still loudly concerned about something related to a stolen election. Changed it up and got the Manana Burrito instead of my usual Eggs Benny. It was literally too much to eat. Loaded with eggs, veggies and sausage and topped with cheese and sour cream. Wow, is all I can say! I have never had a pork tenderloin as big as theirs! And on top of it, it was thin and crispy just how I like it. We are full timers here at the lake. My husband and I have eaten at Val's numerous times and were always pleased. Today I took my sister there for brunch and it was the first time disappointed.. My sister ordered the ham with her eggs. It was so chewy and tough that she couldn't eat it. and the hashed browns were cold inside and not cooked completely. When checking out, the waitress asked how meal was. We did not complain until we checked out. My sister very nicely explained about the ham and asked the cashier (who happened to be our waitress) to pass on the information. The waitress said in a not nice manner that she served 100 that day and no one complained. I told her about the hashbrowns..nicely. She did give my sister her meal free which my sister did not ask for. The problem was when we walked out another customer said "there is always one" and the waitress said "yes there is". Totally unprofessional. We have given Val's business over the years and we will not be going there again. read more

Friendly and lovely family type diner. I would say great service and vibe but the everything omelet had no flavor. You can caramelize onions, season sausage and cook vegetables in olive oil. Al would add flavor but this land egg omelet didn't have anything of that. Keep the main staff! Just add adjusted cooking methods and ingredients. read more

We had breakfast for the second time at Val's this week. This is a "hole in the wall" kind of place - which is our favorite kind. Some observations: 1. I love coffee - especially at breakfast. My first cup was so weak that I wondered if I had been given tea instead. Subsequent cups (I had three or four) had more body, but the flavor was quite bland. (I think every restaurant here at the lake must buy coffee from the same supplier.) 2. My corned beef hash and eggs breakfast was quite good. The eggs were closer to "over-easy" than "over-medium" but were still quite tasty. The corned beef hash was excellent - not too salty like most restaurants. The grits were thick - like this northern boy likes - but a bit lumpy. 3. My wife had a scramble (forgot the actual menu title) which looked very good and she reported that it was excellent. The portion was so large that she boxed the remainder and had it for breakfast the next day. 4. The menu is a bit on the small side, but the prices are competitive to excellent. We both left on a full stomach for a check under $20 - including tax & tip. 5. Service was excellent. Can't think of anything I would want to see changed. (Admittedly - there was a fairly small "crowd" while we were there.) We just moved to the lake and are sampling all of the restaurants we find, but there is no doubt we will be back - this may become our favorite "breakfast place". Now - if they could only make a good cup of coffee :( read more
