This is the real deal!! The shrimp is fresh from the Gulf and the recipes are true to Louisiana! The Gumbo is warm in the belly! The bread is soooo buttery and soft. Be warned! It is expensive here, they do warn you on the menu that there is a surcharge that will be added at the end depending on inflation but the almost $12 added was still a shock. Considering I got a shrimp po boy that cost $13, I definitely think they are overpriced for the food. The sandwich was a section of bread, two pieces of lettuce, plus tomato which I took off and 4 fried shrimps with mayo (plus the sad little butt end pickle chips). No side was included and it would be an additional $3 for a side of fries. Pros: the shrimp was breaded wonderfully and was delicious. The food and service was decent but the food didn't really stand out compared to other po boys I've had. Additionally, we ordered the corn nuggets that cost around $8.50, we didn't count but there was approx 8-10 quarter sized nuggets. They were ok but not worth almost a dollar a piece. Bottom line. Four people getting sandwiches (and one side of fries) should not cost $25 a person. read more

Fun, local spot for great creole style food. You can tell the owners of this place really care about the quality of food they are putting out. It was pretty busy when we went on a saturday night but we got seated quickly and the service was good. tI would really recommend the fried fish, its a huge portion of delicious, flaky fish that goes great with some lemon and tartar sauce. The breading on the fish is really flavorful, albeit a tad salty. You get a starter salad and sides with that dish as well. The gumbo was amazing, I've honestly never had gumbo that I liked that much before, had that perfect deep brown color that you know means it was prepared the right way. The Jalapeño cheese popper things (I think they were called gator teeth) were also really really yummy, not too spicy! Would definitely recommend this spot as a great local place to go for a hearty dinner! read more

Great local joint serving up some authentic creole grub. The Sea Hawgs were delicious and it was hard to say whether the gumbo, jambalaya or red beans and rice were better, though my vote would go to the beans. Even though it was busy the service was friendly and attentive. The owners were even there serving up drinks and making sure everything went well. And you get a nice little surprise for desert that you don't have to save much room for. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area and looking for something other than pizza or bar food. read more

Not a fine dining restaurant. We dined on a Thursday night during the off season. Nice restaurant with a little Louisiana decor. Friendly staff with excellent service. I got a half of bowl of jambalaya, red beans & rice, and gumbo. All were good. I like red beans the best and my wife liked the gumbo. Jambalaya was spiced just right. Also had a side of gator teeth that were very tasty. We thought the prices were on par for the food we ordered. Will definitely go back to try other entrees. read more

This is such a good spot in Sunrise Beach. We took our friends there when they stayed with us at the condo and they loved it. We did have to wait a bit because it is such a popular place but we were able to grab a drink while we waited as well as look at the menu. Dan and I had been here before and loved our meal so we did recommend an appetizer. Being very hungry, we ordered the Fried Pickles which were amazing. Dan and I both ordered the Grilled Catfish dinner which was amazing. The fish was nicely grilled and my vegetables were nicely seasoned and Dan's coleslaw was creamy, rich, but not oily. Our friends enjoyed their choices, the Cajun Chicken Sandwhich and the Shrimp Sandwich. Their son also liked the Mac and Cheese so a great choice for little ones. The service is also very good. The food was overpriced for what was delivered. For an order of fries it was $5.25 not including tax with only about 7 potato wedges. The shrimp appetizers were about $13 with 5 medium sized shrimp each. The food was like alright. Nothing was terrible to the point of not eating. But I would probably go somewhere else. We had never been here before however excellent reviews by our friends caused us to drive to " The other side" of the Lake for this gem. The owner is super friendly explaining everything about the restaurant and its fresh food and menu. Signage (or lack of) for the restaurant surely is costing it business as it is located up on a hilltop. Completion of highway issues will allow them to take care of this matter she said. We ordered drinks and they provided some delicious little snacks to nibble on at the bar. As soon as the rest of our party arrived we grabbed a table. Vodoo salad, red beans and rice, jambalaya, and a couple sampler platters allowed us all to get our fill of fantastic food. They provided everyone with a small morsel of a pecan pie. This accomplished what they set out to do. Pecan pie slices for all for dessert. The only down side was the service. When orderering a round of drinks at the table it took quite a while for them to be depivered. To be fair the waitress did stop by and say the drink order was being prepared. 4 bottles of beer and 1 mixed drink isn't that difficult. Great food! I had the Cajun Reuben with gator teeth and pickle chips, we had the fried pickles as an appetizer and they were the BEST ones we've ever had!! Hubby had the Cajun burger with the spudsters. Also had the best Long Island ice tea!! We are planning on going back soon!! Check this place out! And all was the sea hawgs. Delish shrimp wrapped in bacon w horseradish! Mmmmm. I had a 1/2 cup of jumbalya and fiancé had a 1/2 of gumbo. Both delish !!! We then shared a cat fish dinner. Just the right amount for the 2 of us. Prices weren't that bad at all for the quality!!! If we come back to visit we will definitely put this place high up on our list !! We came here in July and had such a wonderful experience. The owners are hands on which you dont see that often. My family and I waited about 45 minutes to be seated but trust me it was the the best 45 minutes we have waited to be seated. The owner hung out with us and made sure we were comfortable. We got to know him and the history of this establishment. Food was amazing and portions were fairly large. At the end of our experience here he gave us a case yes a case of souvenir cups! Food is good. Seems like genuine Cajun cooking. However, do not go here if you are not prepared to wait up to an hour for your meal. We ordered Panko pickle chips, shrimp cocktail and one bowl of gumbo. At least one couple came in after we had ordered and got their food, ate it, paid their bill and left before we were served our meal. They are happy to keep the alcohol coming but have nothing but excuses about the 1+ hour it took to get our food. Also, the shrimp cocktail was over $12 for 5 small, tasteless shrimp. I almost never give 5 stars - based solely on an entree - but the shrimp etouffee at ShrimpDaddy's knocked my socks off. The "Voodoo Salad" was also simply outstanding. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FANCY about ShrimpDaddy's, but the food is incredible! The owner/head chef/busboy/bartender and his wife bust their collective butts to make sure all the guests are taken care of and happy, and they serve an absolutely wonderful - if not elegant - meal at a very reasonable price. Glad we got a recommendation to come here as we would have passed it right by not seeing it sitting back on the hill. The owner is a New Orleans aficionado. He goes down every few weeks to buy shrimp from the gulf. The jambalaya and gumbo were amazing, but our favorites were the bread and the grilled pecan pie. The bread dough is flash frozen in New Orleans, so when they bake it, it come out perfect: so light and fluffy with a thin layer of crispy butter. The pecan pie is someone's family recipe. They lay the pie upside down on the grill to caramelize the sugar on the top before serving. It transported us to another place. I think we would drive two an a half hours to eat here again. read more

I'm generally one of the last to complain (honestly) but the owner - and her complete inability to be rational and provide good customer service - was both sad and surprising. To be clear: this centers around an up-charge for a cup of jambalaya IN PLACE OF a salad... a substitution. I was told by the owner there would just be a "slight up-charge" - exact wording. A cup (just by itself) is $4.39 - reasonable. The up-charge on my bill was $3.79. So, I was basically charged the full price for a "substitution". Instead of recognizing the obviously overpriced up-charge, and simply offering to revise the amount (or even provide a salad to go) - either of which would have been completely acceptable - the owner decided it was more important to win an argument than do what was right and appropriate. Did this devolve into an argument? Yes. Did I drop a couple of F-Bombs about how ridiculous the owner's judgment and lack of customer service is? Yes - when it became clear that she was dug into her position and wasn't going to come off of it... absolutely; specifically, her inability to handle what (should have been) a very VERY simple fix. Dean runs a good restaurant and the food is usually great. I'm from out of town and generally made a point of coming to his restaurant. This time, the catfish portion was definitely skimpy compared to previous visits... but something like that I'm willing to overlook. This time, the catfish breading was on the soggy side probably due to the grease not being hot enough... but something like that I'm willing to overlook. What I won't overlook - and the reason I won't be back - and the reason I'm writing this (admittedly) long review - is egregiously poor management/ownership and completely irrational judgment. To start with we (4 of us) came in and there's nobody to greet you or a sign saying seat yourself or wait to be seated. It's rather awkward as the other patrons can see you and they all stare. This area opens to the bar, there's no reason the 2 people behind the bar didn't say welcome or have a seat. We finally came to the conclusion to seat ourselves when we spied menus on the tables. We sat for several minutes before we were even acknowledged even though the waitress was passing by to other tables. She finally took our drink order, then we waited again, for drinks, our order to be taken and the food. This was the theme - wait - even though I seen four employees working and the restaurant wasn't full. I wish I could say the waiting was the worst part. Our food was horrible. We ordered a cocktail shrimp appetizer, 6 shrimp for $12 and there was nothing special about the size of the shrimp or the sauce. For dinner we ordered 2 coconut shrimp appetizers, a bowl of jambalaya and the fish poor boy. Coconut shrimp same story as the cocktail shrimp, the jambalaya was ok, but the fish poor boy took the cake. A French roll, not toasted, not buttered, no garlic, just dry fish on dry bread. There was tartar sauce on the side. Our total bill was $81 for 3 appetizers, 1 entree, 4 beers (2 ultras & 2 corona premier) & 2 pops!! This was such an awesome find! Truly authentic New Orleans fare. The gumbo was some of the best I've ever eaten. I ended up getting some to go. I got a French a Letta sandwich which was the owners take on a muffuletta which was amazing. The owner personally fixed our drinks at the bar and came to our table several times to chat and check on our food. He also brought us some samples to try at the table.
