The name is as advertised. This place is small but delivers big. Home style cooking, fresh brewed iced tea and coffee, fast and friendly service. These three gals worked their tails off during today's rush. My husband and I ordered breakfast and felt we both had very good meals at a reasonable price. Let's start with service. From the greeting to the goodbye at the cash register, this place is country friendly and we loved it. Service was solid and watching these ladies apply their craft was like watching a choreographed dance. They must be long-term coworkers to be that fast while working in very close quarters. As a former server, I appreciated watching it. They worked as a team so everyone got their food fast and hot and the cups never went too low. Ambiance: this is a diner with worn finishes but not so worn it's an eyesore. It's comfortable and as the name says, it's cozy. It is the kind of place you would bring your family for breakfast after church. Food: the food was prepared as expected with the added bonus of the eggs being fried perfectly to order. I can't believe how many places have a problem with making over medium eggs. This place isn't one of those. The senior breakfast was a good solid meal that filled me up. My husband's omelette was too big for him to finish it and he left half on the plate, while quite satisfied with the portion he ate. The hash browns are tender on the inside, crunch on the outside, as it should be. They were a little too greasy for me, but the normal level for the region. The toast was well-buttered, a nice surprise coming from an area where there is a movement to only butter when requested. I always forget to ask for it. Went here on a weekday. The special was one biscuit, gravy over it with a sausage patty underneath with hash browns. Hashbrowns were warm. But the only thing on the plate that was. Gravy was lukewarm at best, but the biscuit and sausage patty were ice cold. At nearly 30 dollars for 2 specials? There are much better places to go. read more

we went on Saturday at about 10:30 and it was packed. we waited about 20 minutes for a table. it appeared everyone there works well together. the gal that sat us took our drink orders. Everyone was very nice and good service. the omelet fillings were plentiful. 3 stars for my wife's chili dog and a fail for my omelet. This is the second time we've been in there and we won't be back. The vibe is very much a "locals only" feeling and even though we are locals, we aren't your usual old guys in baseball caps type locals. Popular breakfast spot at the Lake of the Ozark's. This is a down home, uber casual- hot spot. Locals and Visitors alike visit the Cozy Cafe. You will find a Diner style breakfast restaurant with booths and tables for seating. The hash browns are my favorite since I can never get them exactly right at home. My husband and I went here today for breakfast. The wait was short which was nice. I got eggs and toast and tomatoes- all fresh and tasty. My husband got breakfast burrito and did not like it. He also got grits with cheese and said it tasted microwaved. By the way cheese on grits costs .75.... He also got the Apple bread pudding which was on a specials board and that was delicious. This is "our kind of place" so we had high expectations which were not met. Some observations: 1. I love my coffee - usually getting 3 or 4 refills with a meal, The coffee here was totally unremarkable. 2. My hash browns were swimming in a pool of grease and had a very unusual, and disagreeable, taste. All I could eat was two forks-full. 3. My "Cozy Shingle" (eggs, chili & cheese over toast) was just OK. I would not order again. 4. My wife reports that her "New Yorker" (hot dog covered with sauerkraut) was quite good, but too much food. She didn't understand that this was a foot-long hot dog. 5. My wife's tater tots tasted a little greasy, but were cooked to perfection. I ended up eating these instead of my hash browns. The portion size for the tater tots was enormous. 6. Service was spotty - promptly greeted & seated with drinks delivered immediately and orders taken without error. However, we had to ask twice for a soft drink and coffee refills were not automatic. We arrived a little after noon on a Tuesday and there were only two other tables occupied during our stay. With so many better options available in the Lake Area, we will not be back here. read more

We stopped in for breakfast the other day when the wait at the Pancake House was a bit too long. This place has some things going for it, but some definite problems too. When we walked in, one of the two servers was working the register. There were a few tables waiting to be bussed. Both of these servers were working frantically the whole time we were there. Our waitress was pretty grumpy, but really I couldn't blame here. They were understaffed. Still, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The quality was a mixed bag. I got the short stack of buttermilk pancakes. They were tough. My wife had a Spanish omelet. I exchanged some of my pancakes for a portion. It was very good. My MIL was with us, she hated the bacon - too salty, smoky and thick. I didn't like it either - the salty/smoky taste lingered way too long. I could see where some people might like it this way, though. Our daughter had a chocolate chip pancake and loved it. When it came time to pay, the grumpy waitress put the check on the table. I assumed we had to pay at the register, so I brought the bill up and she started scolding my wife, saying "I have the bill here, pushing a folder at her." Not nice, especially since she had already given us a bill. I have kind of a hard time giving them more than two stars, but they worked really hard to get our breakfast to us, plus the omelet and choc chip pancake were really good. read more
