Also, after using hearing amplifiers that I had purchased on Amazon for about 2 years, I didn't think that "professional" hearing aids would work much better. I'm glad to say I was wrong on both issues. I had the pleasure to meet and be tested by Robyn Shapiro at Advanced Audiology in Hollywood in mid January 2018. She discussed the areas where she thought my hearing could be improved, as well my background and lifelong occupation as a musician. The following week, I started "demoing" a pair of hearing aids that she felt met my needs and financial situation and that she had programmed to match my hearing loss. To say that I had a Wow moment when they were placed in my ears is an understatement. The first day Gloria spent a couple of hours with my mom (and me) to explain about the different kinds of hearing aids. My mom had a hearing test, tried on different hearing aids, the charging ones work better for my mom so she doesn't need to deal with tiny batteries, checked out the different colors to blend with her hair, then learned how to use different functions, some are simpler than others. Did you know hearing aids connect with a smart phones/TVs and some can even notify me if my mom fell! YES!!!) Gloria is a plethora of information, great teacher, very patient and such a happy person! I told her that when my hearing deteriorates that I will definitely see her. Bring your insurance card, she will figure out how that works regarding hearing aids.
