Rather than the hassle and long lines of the corporate car rental companies at LAX, Value Rental Car was an all-around exceptional experience. It's a tiny place and if you arrive at LAX, you'll need to take a Lyft or Taxi there, 20-some blocks down Century Boulevard. The car selection is small and the cars are far from brand new. But you also don't have to wait in a torturous line to be handed a car that is the opposite of what you requested. I would highly recommend this place as a reasonably priced alternative with friendly, old school service to the rotten car rental experience at LAX. read more

Beware if you are non smoking and bothered by strong cigarette smoke!!! Be smart and call ahead to request a non smoking car. Ask them straight up if they have a car that doesn't smell like smoke. I have NEVER had to do that for a car rental, but will after this experience. The SUV I got (for myself and two kids for 4 days), had a STRONG cigarette odor! I naively thought giving it a day with the windows open would help (we were exhausted after a delayed flight and confusion getting to the Uber area at LAX...we just wanted to get to our hotel which was over an hr away in rush hr traffic). Unfortunately, the odor was just as nauseating the next day. I called Value Rental. The only options were to waste several hrs driving there and back to return it, or wait in our hotel for pickup (after a few calls they did offer to have someone pick it up). That would have required us to research new rental companies (and only hope we'd be refunded on time to avoid any fraud alerts on my card before booking another), and wait in our hotel for who knows how long for someone to come get the car, then go Uber to take our chances booking a new car. I was told the other option would be to accept $5 MAX off a day. I personally do not think that's enough, especially considering I ended up spending my own time and money on an air freshener (which of course didn't do much). I asked why I was given a smoking car (it was so bad it). I was told it wasn't a smoking car, and that it's their policy not to smoke in the cars, but since they accept cash, there's no way to enforce it...she also suggested I shouldn't expect much anyway since they are older cars. I'll have to disagree with that. I don't think it's too much to expect a safe, clean, smoke free car just because I paid maybe $50 less than I would've at Enterprise (the car also sounded and felt pretty rumbly so I have to wonder how well it was maintained). I decided to just accept the $5 off/day and pick up an air freshener to avoid cutting into our trip. We paid for expensive theme park tickets so every hour mattered. They also charge a full day even if you return it really early in the morning. Ex/If you pick up on a Wed 5pm and return it Sun at 6am, you will be charged for 5 days instead of 4 (no discount for not taking a full day). I don't rent often so maybe that is standard, but I don't recall that at the last place I rented (pretty sure the limit for next day was around noon or even just before the time you picked it up so it's a true day). Our flight was super early the last day, so we returned the car at 6am and was still charged for that whole day (we picked up the car around 3:30 or 4 the first day). The guys who greeted us and processed the pick up were super kind, but the experience with the smoke left a bad taste in my mouth...literally. read more

Update: after I wrote the 2-star review I received a $30 credit and apology for the miscommunication, which cost me time, late fees, and the fee itself totaling almost $90. I'm glad they took the situation more seriously after I wrote the review as I couldn't get a response prior to that, which for me is a red flag. Since the average person considering their services are likely to be on a tight budget and can't afford extra fees, I decided to leave this review up. Be aware that if you accidentally drive in an express lane Value Rental Car will charge a $30 "processing fee" to submit paperwork that makes you liable for any toll charges, meaning you have to pay $30 on top of any toll (typically around $25). These can rack up quickly with late fees if you don't realize that you are liable for it. I'm glad Value Rental Car at least responded, hence I added back one star. Hopefully they implement clearer communications and update their contract to clearly state their policies (the policy I signed only states that the renter is liable for parking tickets, and did not mention express lane charges). For me, it was definitely not worth the hassle and the effort to get it straightened out. I have rented cars from the usual corporate places and have had a much better experience overall, so if you can afford better options I would recommend that, to save yourself some hassle. read more

This is my second time renting with Value Rental Car in Inglewood. I'm leaving this review because their customer service and accommodations for you are absolutely amazing, their prices are great, and they treat and serve you EXTREMELY well! I got into an accident two weeks and they deemed my car a total loss. I knew I needed a car and immediately called Value Rental Car because I had such a great experience the first time. I'm 22, a recent college grad, and only have a Debit Card. When I first rented with them, I was still 21 and a college student. Other rental car places WILL NOT let you rent with them if you are under 25 and do not have a credit card. However, I was easily accepted to rent with Value Rental Car both times with NO issues. I initially rented my car for 5 days, but extended it for 3 additional days due to my hectic car shopping schedule. Once I realized I needed to extend it, I contacted them and did so with ease. Since my schedule can get crazy, it was impactful to know that I was NEVER going to receive a bad attitude just because I needed to extend my car dates. I live in CA, but for those visiting who may end up with a cancelled or delayed flight, this can be EXTREMELY important! No attitude, no snarky remarks, no judgmental faces. Everyone that works here is very kind, friendly, and warm. I highly recommend this place and guarantee that you will have a great experience if you decide to use Value Rental Car. The truth is that I rented the car with them because it seemed like they had good service in the other reviews but in reality it was bad service because they charged me for 1 day that I did not use the car. Also the cars they give are very bad, they gave me a Toyota Corolla with dirty cloth seats and very bad brakes, they shake when braking, the discs are bad, they also charged me for the insurance but if I had an accident the insurance would not cover me, that is a scam read more

I made a reservation a week ago. Today they abruptly email me with no explanation whatsoever; "Reservation cancelled due to unavailability. Sorry for the inconvenience. Value Rental Car" And when I called for a further explanation first they put me on infinity hold, then they didn't answer the phone and let it go to voicemail, then when I finally got a human being she tried to explain that in the summer they get short on cars and they have to cancel reservations (?). I emailed them back and asked if they were a chain or if each office is independently owned because obviously it is terrible customer service to cancel on a customer at the last minute but I obviously needed this for something I didn't just reserve a car for sport. Of course they have not emailed back. Girl bye... I've never rented it from them before so this treatment my first experience with them. Needless to say it was also the last. EDIT: presumably by that response, the owner feels that this is in any way acceptable customer service or acceptable treatment. Yes you did leave me on hold the first call and not answer the second. I don't care how many other people gave you five star reviews. I got terrible service. I disagree with your assessment of the situation, and my review still stands. IN FACT - I think it's extremely bad form to argue with a potential customer and basically calling them a liar instead of just apologizing and figuring out someway to make amends. A while back I was in a pinch and needed a rental car right away. I normally shy away from the "Non-Chain" agency's but this time I took a chance. What a great experience. I was greeted by Ali and ushered into a CLEAN office to do my paperwork, which took no time at all. Before I knew it, a REALLY nice car was brought up to the office. Not only is this business clean. SO WAS THE CAR! Upon inspection, this car was not only detailed, but NO SMOKE SMELL (That's important to me). I just have to say, in all the years I have been renting cars on business trips, this has to be the smoothest and fastest rental I have ever done. I do not recommend anyone rent a vehicle from here. The manager is very rude and prejudice. I was in an accident and I have rental coverage. Because I'm a CA resident I was treated as a "potential car thief" and was told I can't rent unless I have a utility bill or return flight. This is why corporations like Enterprise or Hertz are better because a credit card and my claim information should have sufficed. This is a very nice and cheap place if you are looking for a place to get a car. My boyfriend and I went to LA for vacation and needed to get around. We were staying just a couple places away from the place so all we had to do was walk over and grab the car. They were really nice people and made sure we got a vehicle we needed. They even let us keep the car an extra day even though they were closed that day and we just dropped off the car and keys. They didn't have a few for us being under 25 years old which was also a relief. They are a great place, they also have an additional location in Pasadena as well. read more

I agree with the other reviews that this place is great. Given that ratings on Yelp for car rental companies tend to be skewed really low, 4 stars is pretty exceptional for any car rental place. That was more than enough to convince me to check this place out. I rented from them from for 3 days and it was fantastic. Here's what made my experience great (in order of importance to me): - There was no BS. Unlike some other rental car companies, there was nothing shady or sketchy that I experienced here (nonsense charges, trying to sell you things you don't need and insisting that you need them, etc.). Everything was very straightforward and transparent. - The prices were cheap. The base price for 3 days of car rental was like 70 dollars or something like that. That's a pretty good price in my experience. - They're flexible. I only had my debit card and not credit card with me so a lot of the larger companies wouldn't let me rent a car from them (fair enough). When I called Value Rental Car I was promptly told that this wouldn't be a problem. - The owner Ali is a really nice guy. He makes you feel like you are his friend, and that's a good feeling to have from a car rental owner. - It was really nice inside. This probably isn't that important but the entire building, inside and outside, was really new looking. They're a smaller rental car company so they don't have too many cars in the back. Some of the cars are a little bit older (2000's). Personally that didn't really matter to me. The car was in great condition, very clean inside, and ran great. I searched far and wide for someone to rent to me, a 20-year-old, but no one was willing unless there were unreasonably fees and policies. But Value Rental Car made it clear, affordable, and convenient for someone like me, young, no credit card/credit, and on my father's insurance. From what I could see, it was a small business compared to the major companies, but just as professional. Ali was my retailer and he was efficient and personable. He ran me through the process, inspected the car with me, and stuck to everything he said on the phone when I made the reservation. There were no hidden fees or policies. Everything can either be answered on their website or by a phone call. Pros: Allows month to month rental; Rents to 20 year olds; affordable young driver fee; good cars (for the price, you can't complain); allows you to use your personal insurance as long as it has full coverage (if you're on your parents' insurance, that works too); allows debit card usage if you don't have a credit card; professional and clean environment Cons: There is a 100 mile radius limit of where the car is allowed to travel before you get charged extra (not a problem for me though) Price: $727 for 1 month (28 days) and this includes the young driver fee and all taxes.
