Lamana's knows what they are doing. We packed our personal items, so the crew only had to move the furniture & boxes. They just needed us to direct them as to placement in our new house. In all, the entire process took about 5 hours. We should note my husband is immune compromised and all staff took precautions when it came to pandemic precautions. We are grateful for their professionalism and concern, in this regard. There was a GREAT article about Lamana's in the Albany Times Union on 9/2/20, this is a multigenerational family run business and they deserve the high praise and recognition. we were so upset when we arrived last monday 7/13/26 and saw the condition of this place. the…read morebuilding looks nice from the outside and it is beside an apartment complex that appeared to be lively and in good shape--so we were shocked at how unsafe we felt inside the self storage, both in terms of leaving our belongings in the building for any amount of time, but also for our personal safety. we had rented the unit based on these reviews that said no one was even able to access the upper floors without management letting them up. instead we arrived (with our four-man moving crew and 30 ft truck full of our belongings) to find the "coded" gate totally open to the road, zero staff on site during business hours, and every single outer door unlocked. the elevator was fully broken, trash was piled in vacant units with their doors wide open, a transient was smoking (not weed) out of a clear glass pipe on the third level, with his liquor bottles and garbage spread out across the floor and music blasting like he felt completely at home. we decided that even though we had no other place to take our stuff and the movers needed to leave, under no circumstance could we stay one minute longer here. a bright spot in our awful day was how responsive the StoragePro corporate team (who are based on the west coast) were to us when we couldn't get anyone on the phone at albany-menands and then arrived with our whole moving crew to an empty office and all the rest of it. those kind folks did refund us our money after we filed a report about all this, but i still feel compelled to share this experience with anyone researching safe storage options, since the existing reviews on here do not accurately reflect the current state of this facility. my husband did later have a phone call with the person who was out that day with a family emergency, and while i understand that emergencies arise, that still does not change the reality of the physical state of the facility or its total lack of security and oversight. we consider it a blessing that everything worked out the way it did and we were able to see the true state of affairs, rather than foolishly leaving our things there.

Orchestrating this move…read morefrom North Carolina for my elderly father living in New York, felt like climbing Mount Everest with a toothpick!  And entrusting someone I have never met before with this task wasn't something that came easy for me.  But I must say, when I sent Neil an email from his website he responded the very next day.  We had our initial conversation the same afternoon.  I immediately thought "I like him and he sounded like he knows his stuff.  I'll kept my remaining reservations on hold for a bit and move forward."  My reservations had NOTHING to do with Neil, but instead me giving up control and 100% letting someone else drive. I think you are almost in disbelief when you hear the numbers of hours it will take to methodically dismantle the contents of your home.  Neil spoke my language from day one - "I need an hour estimate/cap, don't discuss cost with my dad, all bills come to me, and he are the tips and tricks to navigate my dad's "potholes".  He kept me informed every step of the way, contacted me when he had questions, and worked with us to spend his time and our budget where it made the most sense. As the process evolved, Neil continued to take care of tasks I had assumed I would have to make imaginary free time to do.  He coordinated with our realtor, packaged and shipped items we asked for to us in NC, returned our cable equipment, etc. etc. etc. When it was all said and done, he actually came in under his original quote!  I told him hiring him was the best decision ever and there's NO WAY I could have done everything he did in the time he did or maintain my sanity! Here's how the process worked for us -- Neil worked with my dad one-on-one to go through EVERYTHING in the house to determine what he wanted to take to his new place in NC.  We opted to forgo movers and have Neil box and ship all those items to us, so we left the furniture and big pieces behind.  Then Neil organized an estate sale to sell off everything remaining.  Any thing leftover after the sale was then donated or trashed.  Any debris was cleared by Neil and his team and the house was left broom-swept clean. Our first meeting with Neil was on March 22 and the house was emptied by May 9.  I can wholeheartedly say, Neil was worth every penny, the nicest guy you will ever meet, straightforward pricing, and trustworthy!  Sure, I could have saved money and done it myself, but realistically, I'd STILL be there NOW (whenever you may read this review) trying to weed through 60+ years of junk!
