This Valvoline at the corner of White Bear Avenue and Beam Avenue is one of the most frustrating places to get into. The only entrance is off southbound White Bear, and if you miss it, good luck turning around. Once you finally get in, it's not clear where customers are supposed to go. There are doors that look like public entrances, but one leads straight into the oil change bay, and the other is locked. You can see an office through the window, but there's no way to actually talk to anyone about pricing. There are no signs, no banners, and no posted prices anywhere. I drove around the back, which is so narrow that it's nearly impossible for a truck to maneuver, and ended up stuck in line with no idea what anything costs. Eventually, a worker walked up and said, "Can I help you?" I asked for the price of a full synthetic oil change. He said, "I don't really know right now." I told him I wasn't waiting through six cars and 45 minutes just to find out the price. He guessed it was "about $110 before tax," but even then wasn't sure. At that point, I backed out--which took another ten minutes because the space is so tight. The whole setup is a mess. There's zero signage, zero communication, and zero customer consideration. They are always short staffed and they never respond. They always divert their job to someone else. I was asked to call customer care for a list of the services that I had done there for a warranty and they haven't gotten back to me yet, or probably never will. I have never waited long to get an oil change. One weird thing for me is sitting in the car while I wait, but I kind of like that now. Beats drinking oil change place coffee - no offense oil change places. You may be able to find some better deals, but overall I think their prices are pretty competitive. They were very polite and did a good job explaining what they were doing. I have now been there twice so far. I will probably use them again unless I find something closer to home. read more

They tell you what they offer without pushing you to buy additional options. As a woman and mother who had a 6 year old in the car, we had only a short wait and then, they were done. Went here on a Sunday for an AC recharge. It was a hot day, and I didn't want to start the work week without it. I figured it would be an easy in and out process...boy, was I wrong. I sat in the parking lot waiting for at least 30 minutes before the acting manager came out to talk with me, and have me move to the other bay. Maybe 20 minutes later I actually got into the bay. They popped the hood, and it took three guys with flashlights to find the attachment for the hose to pressure test the system. It's not like I drive a rare car...it's a 2010 Ford Focus. The actual manager didn't seem to be on site...the main guy, Aaron, had to call him multiple times to walk through how to run the machine, hook things up, etc. Finally he had it figured out and started the recharge. Everything seemed fine. He had me start up the car and cold air started blowing. All good. But as he unhooked the hose, freon and steam started spraying out. Multiple calls to his manager later, he figured out he had broken a seal on the valve stem at the attachment point. He was able to replace the valve stem, and told me he wouldn't charge me for it (Gee...thanks). But he would need to recharge the AC again, which took another 20 minutes. At this point, the store is closed, employees are leaving. I can tell they just want to get me out of there. Everything seemed to work fine the second time, and the valve stem held. But then it comes time to pay, and they charge me the full $160 for the job...no "10% off...sorry it took so long" or "here's a coupon for a free oil change." Nope. Just a 30 day warranty on the work. As if I would take it back to them if something went wrong. I honestly have zero confidence the AC will hold until the end of the week, let alone all summer. There were points where I wanted to have them cap things off and just leave, but they had already hooked up hoses, broken valves, etc. So I didn't want to drive off with something leaking, and I just wanted it over with. All in all, I spent 2.5 hours at Valvoline on a Sunday afternoon. Most of it in a hot car with no AC. And spent $160 for the pleasure. I wish I would have waited a couple days and taken it to the dealer or a real shop. These guys might be OK at doing 20 minute oil changes and checking tire pressure. But I would not trust them to do any of the other services they offer. read more

What's there to say? Im a cab driver and these guys help me keep my hands clean. And yes, most importantly, they help keep my taxi ready for long days of driving people to their destinations. Some people are weary of the sales pitches from the guys. In my experience, they have never tried sell me something I didn't need and understood that some of these things I can take care myself cheaper. I had a great experience last weekend at this Valvoline location. Getting an oil change is always just one of those boring, necessary errands that I dread. I normally go to places where I have to wait for 30 minutes and read a book in a dull waiting room. Valvoline is quick and efficient. I loved the fact that I didn't even need to get out of my car. The staff here is very polite and knowledgable. I have never been pressured into making additional purchases and because I am a regular, they know what's been done to my car. I have not needed major service but I think they would do a great job. If they do run out of stock on anything, their supplier is right next door so you will always leave with the correct part!! I called to ask about my hubcap and they said they could order me a new one I would have to pay for and they did not put back on . Nice to be in your car while people are working on it. They communicate well and have a respectful way of offering additional products/services without being too pushy. They will ask you for about 5-10 add-on products and services, but they're not aggressive. Overall, they cost a few more dollars than some places, but it's quicker and they have much better customer service. I feel more confident pulling out of there than Walmart. read more

Did they change the oil, filter, and check oil pressure? Yes. But they also tried to sell me anything and everything they could, including a cabin air filter, which they removed after I told them not to worry about it. It was then put back incorrectly and caused me to pull over and figure out why I was getting such a cold draft in my car. I'm also convinced that the windshield washer fluid they topped-off was severely diluted with water. It comes out clear when I hit the wash function, and instantly freezes the nozzle once I leave the garage, not allowing me to get any fluid to keep the windshield clean. The only reason I went here in the first place was because I had a coupon for a $19.95 oil change. I won't be returning. Too much of a hassle. I just want my oil changed - don't do anything else. They can't, and won't just change the oil and in the process of trying to get me to buy other services, screwed up my car. Maybe not a big deal to some, but to me it's annoying. read more

NO STARS(had to pic a star to post review). I been a customer with them for about a year but on April 30th will be the last they will ever see me. On April 24th I got an oil change they did everything they usually do so I thought however 6days laterwhile driving my client(my car is my business my source of income) they car makes loud cloaking noise and shuts down on me. I had to towed company the company I contract wit had to send another driver to pick my passenger up. I call Valvoline the mangr came to my home look at the car n cldnt find anything or leaks he stated its beyond Valvoline he had to get it towed to dealership mechanic shop to look at it. Its been 2 days and Ive called the dealership due to the mechanics busy I had to lev several msgs; until they trnsfered me to the head manager whom stated the notes only say the mechanic called and left msg wit manager. Long story short the Valvoline mngr sd it was an oil leak and it was noted on my visit sheet in which I did not see that note the Valvoline tech never mention that to me and per the manager sd they shouldve told me that. My question to him was why will you tow my car and get it looked at if you knew wat the problem may have been according to a note on the visit sheet? I dont understand it all but now Im out of a car and work because of the negilence of the tech at Valvoline not communicating something as important as a possible oil leak. There was never any oil in my driveway there was no trail of an oil leak, there was no engine indicator or oil light flashing on my dashboard at all! I rate them a 1!!!! read more
